Word 2007 Vista & Pocket PC - Can't OPen Files / Save Files to Pocket PC

Q: Word 2007 Vista & Pocket PC - Can't OPen Files / Save Files to Pocket PC

I am using Windows Vista & Word 2007 + a Pocket PC-Smartphone.

When I used Word 2003 I could create files & save them to my phone.

Now that I'm using Word 2007, it wont let me save files to the phone, though I can open files CREATED on the phone.

What am I doing wrong?

Preferred Solution: Word 2007 Vista & Pocket PC - Can't OPen Files / Save Files to Pocket PC

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Problem solved! Please ignore. Sorry.

(ActiveSync apparently needs to be installed for a Pocket Word document to even be recognized as such.)

I've been using Word 2007 on Vista for over a year. I've had other issues with it - usually after a Vista update installs - but this is the first time I've seen this.
When I use the Open command and navigate to a folder that I know contains .doc or .docx files, the files do not display in the Open dialog box. I can see folders only.
When I use Windows Explorer to navigate to the same folder (and I mean any of my folders), the files are there. When I double click one, the file opens in Word. OK so I have a workaround.
I'd really appreciate knowing how to reconfigure Word to recognize the .doc files on my system from the Open dialog. I work in Word constantly and need it to work properly.
I've tried re-associating the .doc and .docx files - but the association is clearly already there as the files will open properly when double-clicked. I don't mind modifying the registry but I'm not sure what to look for.

A:Word 2007 on Vista doesn't see doc files in open dialog

This seems like it may be to simple to work but its worth a shot. Make sure that this drop down says "All Word Documents".

New to pocket PCs. I cant find the FILE command. (includes "rename", "save", etc.) Other commands, like Edit, Tools, etc are there. Is something missing?

Thanks much

A:Pocket PC Word/Excel (Windows CE)

What is it you are trying to do?

If you are looking for your files, you can go to My Handheld PC and find your files there.

Once you find your files, you can either ALT and click (same as right click) or single click your file and then FILE.

If you are on the desktop, hold the ALT key down and click. (same as right click)

Does that help?

Says I can't open document because 'word has insufficient memory' -- I'm assuming this is related to the 62% resources free on bootup...should be 80 if i remember (this is win98) -- any ideas other than that as to why it won't save/open?

and if you agree its the resources problem - how to fix? This is my cousin's old machine...IBM Aptiva...i think it's a duron, only 64mb dedicated system memory...88 included onboard vram.

A:Word won't save or open files

I got system resources free up to 88% but it still won't open documents. If I open a document straight from my documents, it will open. But the 'open' command won't work in Word. I can't use the 'save' or 'save as' command.

I can open recent files though in the 'file' menu. Any ideas? Seems really weird.

Also, appears to be true in all Microsoft applications, not just Word.

Sometimes, you may be able to open .asd, .wbk or ~wrl####.tmp files by simply changing the file's extension. Often, renaming the file will not work, and opening it in Word will result in the following error:
There is a Microsoft article written for opening ASD files located here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827099. It didn't work for me.

Another solution is to download, install OpenOffice.org, and use Writer to open these files. That solution works, however it requires installing additional software which can take a while. I'm not a big fan of installing applications to resolve a one-time problem. Also, installing software may not be an option for you at all (if you're using a work computer, for example).

I came up with another solution that I haven't seen posted anywhere. Basically, the trick is to create another autosave file, and swap your file with it. When you re-open Word, your document can be "recovered". Here's the step-by-step:

1) In Word 2007, click the Office Button, and select "Word Options"
2) In the "Save" Section, change Autosave time interval to 1 min, and also note the location of autosave files. Click OK.
3) Type some text in a new Word document. I don't think Word autosaves blank documents, so don't skip this step.

4) Using Windows Explorer, open the folder where Word autosaves documents (you got the path in Step 2). Wait for Word to create a new autosave file. This should n... Read more

Hi guys,

I have a question that has stumped me so far. Here is the scenario: I am dealing with a spreadsheet that has several tabs on it. In each tab, there are several word, powerpoint, and pdf documents that are embedded as objects. My task is to write a macro, that will for each document (keep in mind its an embedded object that needs to be opened), open it with the appropriate program, and save it using a pre-assigned name (the name of the column heading and the row it is in) to a predetermined folder path. This process needs to be duplicated about 200 times. I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I know enough about vba to believe that it is. I've been working on it since yesterday, and I can't seem to tie the pieces together. Can anyone help on this?

First time I have asked a question so hope someone can help. Can't identify when it first started to happen but recently all excel files seem to have converted to word files. If word is already running and I try to open an excel file it opens in word and office tries to reinstall.
All excel files are displaying as word files in my documents folders. if I open excel and then open the files they do open and I can then save them in the correct format and they stay in that format.

Hope this makes sense.

I am unable to open Word 2007 .doc and .docx files recovered with Mini Tool Power Data Recovery and Easeus Data Recovery. I never had any problems before. These files are recovered from a USB external drive. I have always been able to open them before I accidentally deleted them.
I have saved these recovered files with the Data Recovery software but when I try to open them with Word in Windows 7, I get a conversion prompt with illegible characters. It shows the encoding as Windows Default. None of the other conversion options works.
after recovering them, some of these saved files showed in blue characters in the Windows Explorer. I found out it is because they were compressed, for some reasons. I unchecked the compression box in Properties, but still they donít open. I also tried Office Viewer, unsuccessfully.I am on Windows 7

Can anybody help, please?

I've got a Vista Home Premium system with Office 2007. I can't open Word *.doc files by double-clicking on them, either on the desktop or when they are attachments in emails (the most common way I get them.) All I get is an error saying the file I'm trying to open is "not a valid Win32 application."

When I right-click the .doc file icon and go to "Open With" there is an option that reads "Microsoft Office 2007 component" and it has the Office 2007 Word icon next to it. I again get the "not a valid Win32 application."

I can open one of these documents when I have Word already running and just Open File, but its just annoying and time consuming over and over again.

Any thoughts? Help a brother out?

I have an Acomdata 80GB Photon model pocket drive which runs only on USB power. It works fine on Windows XP. But when I attach it to Vista, the drive does power up as is evident by the lights but it is not detected at all by Vista.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with all latest patches and updates.
When I connect it to a Windows XP machine though it works fine.

I have not installed any special drivers for the driver on either OS.

Any pointers to resolve this will be appreciated.

I'm using Office XP on Vista. I had no problems using word until this week when it wouldn't open. I tried re-naming and deleting normal.dot, which makes word open temporarily (until i close the window and try to start word up again when it just regenerates the file), but i cannot open my word files. I managed to open them at one point, but it's temporary and won't stick. I click to open the file and word freezes and at the bottom it says "requesting virus scan..." which makes me think its something to do with a virus scanner. I don't have norton, but i have liveupdate, AVG and spybot.

I have a problem with the "Always ask before opening this type of file" function in Internet Explorer 11 and Windows 8.1.
The problem is; when the Citrix receiver from Windows store is configured to open ICA files and we log into a webinterface or storefront server in IE, users  is prompted to either Open, Save or Cancel the ica file. I am not able to uncheck
the "Always ask before opening this type of file" after downloading the file. I can do thios on other file types like 7z Files. For me it seems like Windows have a whitelist of safe files, and .ica is not one of them.

My wife has Win7 home premium x64 on her laptop and is using Word 2007. The problem she is having is she will open a word file, change it up, save it, then re-open it later and its the old file not the new one. Where as I can open the edited file on my desktop running the same OS but with Word 2010 and the file that opens for me is the newest version. Anyone have ANY idea why this is happening? I would really like to resolve this issue.

A:worrd 2007 only opening old files, not open revised files

that's just bizarre. You're saying that she will make change to a document, then try to open it, and changes are gone on HER laptop , but you open the very same document from another computer with 2010, you can see it? WTF??

1) Does this happen on a fresh blank doc file?
2) Is she saving to network drive or other removable drive of any sort?
3) Does she have compatibility pack for 2007 install in programs and features? (normally this can be removed if present)
4) what if she tries to save as a word 2003 file?
5) Have you run office repair from programs and features?
6) Do you have legit version of office 07?

Not sure what happened. The Visio files were opening just fine a few minutes ago, and now when I try to open them, IE prompts me continuously for "Open, Save, Save as." I tried all three options for the fun of it and IE still prompts every time.
Tried opening them from a remote PC and they open just fine. Can't do anything with them on my PC except view them in Visio itself.
I've tried resetting IE settings. Uninstalling IE 11 and going down to 10. Nothing in event viewer for IE.

I have two PC:
- one HP Pavilion dv7-7180sf Notebook PC, i7-3610QM CPU
- one desktop HP p6242fr, Core2 Quad CPU Q8300
This last one has a default of file association with .doc, default describes hereafter that the first does not have although they run both under Windows 7 Family Premium (64 bits) SP1 and that the version of MS Office used is the same, i.e. 2007 SP3. The two machines are regularly updated each week by Windows Update.

Description of the default (only Word of MS Office 2007 is concerned):
First of all, I must say that to open a file .doc with the Open command of the Office Button of Word does not present any problem.
However, by double clicking on a file .doc, this one opens under another application (OpenOffice or NotePad also installed on my PC) whereas the same action on the files .docx normally opens them under Word 2007.

Of course, to solve this problem consists in modifying the files association with .doc file type by using the contextual menu ?Open with?, check the text ?Always use the selected program to open this type of file??, ?Browse? the tree structure ?C: > Program Files (x86) > Microsoft Office > Office 12? and double-click on ?Winword.exe?. But surprise, Winword does not appear in the programs list of the ?Open with? window.

I upgraded my PC some months ago and sold my old one with a card in a shop window.
The guy that brought it told me he really wanted it to get on the net. I told him it was not a problem and I had used it mainly for that, it was a few years old and a bit slow but OK.
I worked of broadband.
The guy that brought it phoned me up to say he now had broadband fitted but could not get on and the BT helpdesk had run through some things and there was a problem with the IP address. Being a decent sort I called around to try and help and after about half an hour ended up with the same answer from BT help desk, There is no IP address it just reads
BT suggested he gets in touch with MS help as there is a "no IP address issue".
The guy has now come on demanding his money back. I can understand his point as that was what he wanted it for, but I have not got £150 (it wasn't a bad price as it included a 17"TFT).
Something has occurred to me .
The machine has an internal dial up modem.
I had an ethernet adaptor in it originally, but can't remember if I used that for setting up my home network with a laptop or if I needed an ethernet adaptor just for broadband.

OS is Win98se
any help or advice would be very much occurred.

A:I really do need some help on this or I am £150 out of pocket !!

Hi baldy. 98se can be very difficult to set up.

Assuming there are no physical problems,
The first thing to check is the internet options in IE. make sure the connections tab in internet settings shows that your primary connection is from your LAN. This probably wont work, but is the simplest solution.

Next, open run and type "winipcfg". select the internal network card and force it to release, then renew it's address. this will let you know if DHCP is properly configured.

Failing this, you should check the network settings in the network control panel. TCP/IP and Client for Microsoft Networks should be present. Open the settings for TCP/IP, and make sure that the computer is set to "Recieve IP address automatically"

More info would help (hardware, cable modem, etc.)

Another question is how can i display only certain columns on the datagrid? i've tried mapping the name with datagrid but no good.

Any idea how to do that?
