Second monitor not detected: T430s with Mini Dock Plus Series 3 dual external monitor

Q: Second monitor not detected: T430s with Mini Dock Plus Series 3 dual external monitor

I'm using a T430s and a mini dock plus series 3. This is the dock with the dual DVI, dual DisplayPort, 1x VGA. I do not use the laptop's built-in screen; just the 2 external monitors. Intel HD4000 graphic chip and Nvidia Optimus/ I previously had 2 20" monitors with a 1680x1050 resolution using DVI-to-DVI. They both worked fine. I upgraded to 2 24" monitors with a 1920x1200 resolution. The laptop is not recognizing the second monitor. I have tried:dual display port (dock side) to mini display port (monitor side): only 1 monitor recognizeddual dvi (dock side) to HDMI (monitor side): only 1 monitor recognizedI ruled out monitor and cable problems by swapping...each by itself works fine. Looking up specs, I believe this resolution should be supported by DP or DVI. Can anybody confirm that this is a supported config? Any ideas what is wrong? UPDATE - I did try 1 DP/mDP and 1 DVI/HDMI: this does work. However, its not an ideal solution because it would interfere with the monitors ports which I want to use for a second PC. UPDATE 2 - OK, now I am beyond aggrivated. I also have a support ticket w/ Lenovo where they suggested switching to Integrated Graphics only in the BIOS. I tried that, no luck. After changing that setting back, i tried to get my 1 DP / 1 DVI working, but now it would not recognize dual monitors. ??? After some testing, I'm finding that the -only- setup that works is the following: Dock DVI port 1 to Monitor ADock DP port 2 to Monitor B If I try this (just plug swap DVI and DP to other ports on the dock)Dock DVI port 2 to Monitor ADock DP port 1 to Monitor BFail - Monitor A will is not recognized and Monitor B connects with 640x480 resolution and no apparent way to change it. Monitor B is just identified as Generic Non-PnP Monitor. What is going on? UPDATE 3 - I'll just talk to myself while folks are having Thankgiving turkey. Just more data dump: I tried many combinations of Monitor / Cable Types / Dock Port1-2 and the only thing that works is the one I listed above. I hit a case where I thought one DVI cable may be bad, but works perfectly fine in a different PC. I got my hands on regular DP/DP cables (not DP/mDP) - same problems. Also tired a 2nd dock; exhibited all the same problems. When the machine boots, the initial windows logo will appear on 1 monitor, then flip to the other monitor. So it seems to confirm that connectivity-wise: both monitors on DVI (or DP) are recognized. However, its only 1 at a time. One obvious thing I've nailed down is that the DisplayPort dock port "#1" seems to be constantly stuck: it will not recognize the display, even if its the -only- display connected. It will always state a Generic Non-PnP w/ a 640 resolution. And yes - I read through the couple of longer threads here on the T430s. Those threads deal w/ 3 monitors - this isn't what i'm trying to do. Ultimately I just need this question answered: will the T430s drive 2 external displays via 2x DVI->HDMI or 2x DP (laptop closed...native LCD is off)?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Fixed; was a driver issue. Problem seems exclusive to a Dell u2415 on DP port 1 only of the dock or to the laptop's DP port (at least for the couple monitors I tried). It's possible it could affect other monitors. My starting point: 9.18.13.4535 / 9.17.10.2843 (Nvidia / Intel) The latest driver from Lenovo is 9.18.13.4535 / 8.15.10.2725. I'm not sure how i have a slightly newer Intel, but that's what it was. I couldn't install the Lenovo driver. I also couldn't install a newer driver from Intel (10.18.10.4276). In both cases Windows or the Intel installer stopped me saying the mfr provided the drivers and that the installed version was up to date. I worked around by first rolling back the Intel driver. The manual (.zip) install of the latest intel driver worked. This immediately fixed the Dell u2415 on DP port 1 and laptop's built-in DP port.

We have a user with a T530 and a Mini Dock Series 3 (433710U). She has a single monitor conected via VGA. When she presses the button on the dock, it does not detect her monitor. I have been able to fix this in the past by enabling the Optimus graphics in the BIOS but in this case, that is not working. I have searched the Lenovo site for dock firmware updates but am not finding anything. Any help or links to the firmware would be greatly appreciated.

Have been happily running windows 10 - with dual monitors, but since a recent update, the system once re-docked will no longer re-detect that it using different monitors. Previously i could use it:1. Un-docked - at 1600 x 9002. then when i put it to sleep3. Then dock it and resumed:     it would     a) switch to 1920 x 1080, and     b) also detect and display on the second monitor - no intervention required. Now, it remains in it's prior "state" (it neither changes state nor outputs to the second monitor) - only outputting to the first external monitor - but at 1600 x 900. Thus since a recent change, it is not "re-detecting" the "change in state" on resume, ONLY when i now do a full restart. The update may have been a Windows update, but on the same day i also installed a Toshiba Dynadock - with dual display port support. I have used the Lenovo system update to update the driver - now it is at 10.18.10.4425 - and as the driver loaded the monitors re-detected, and corrected - but later the problem is persisting. Does anyone know how to force the driver to re-detect on resume not just on restart? Or is this a "consequence of doing things in a certain order" System:Lenovo T430s laptop -HD Graphics 4000  version 10.18.10.4425 (from Lenovo System Update)UPDATED: to 10.18.10.4653 - 7/4/2017with a Lenovo ThnikPad Usb 3.0 Pro Dock (dual HDMI/DVI ports)dual BenQ GL2450 monitors.

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

Anyway to resolve this?

And i used to activate it with fn+f7, when it's needed to show anything, when its necessary.... I have updated the windows lately, but after it the settings gone insane, and when i connect the laptop to the 4336 it sends the screen to the external, and need to change it back to laptop lcd by pressing the mentioned keys before. It is pretty frustrating, and i don't find the setting, which i was able to find before the update. It did the same way after the previoius update too.can somebody please help?I'm soo dissapointed in the new windows stuff by now. I used win 7 x64 for a looooong time, but.... the system came with win8 so its free os for me, and deceided to use it instead of 7. It was a mistake i know... Hi, I think it has DisplayLink sticker or DisplayLink Certified that means you can connect 2 monitors at the same time. It has DP port (6) and HDMI port (5) and you can use both             Side note: From your image, the dock price is US$149.00 + tax (says 7.5%) = around AU$210 but HP in Australia sells for AU$329              Amazing ! AU$100 more for HP Australia for a same product. May be HP has to ship the product from China to the US first then send first class air to Australia. Regards.

I just got a Z60t at work. I had been using a dual monitor setup, but it doesn't look like my current config is going to fly w/ the new machine. Anyway, here's what I've got: Primary monitor: Acer AL2416W (1920x1200 DVI)Secondary monitor: Dell 1901FP (1280x1024 VGA) I've read that the advanced dock might be able to let me use this setup with the Z60t if i put a PCIe video card in it. So here are my questions: 1. Will the advanced dock + PCIe video card allow me to run the two monitors listed above (I don't use the laptop screen at all)?2. Which PCIe cards are compatible with the advanced dock?3. Can I achieve the same resolutions with the advanced dock + PCIe card?4. Will I need to split the VGA output, or can i use VGA + DVI like I do now (since the Z60t has no native DVI support)? thanks!

I have a P51 on a docking station with two Acer 28" monitors connected with Display port. This user has two monitors on a stand with monitor 1 on the bottom and 2 on the top. No matter what I do the main display appears on the top monitor. I go to display settings and change the monitors to 1 on top and 2 on the bottom, the desktop stays the same (top screen). I select the other monitor (#2 now on the bottom) and select to make this the main display and the desktop stays the same (top monitor). I tried swapping DP cables with the same result. If I open the laptop and boot the system I cannot change the main display. But after doing this, (I close the lid on the laptop) the top monitor now had the resolution of the laptop screen, requiring me to change the resolution to 4k rather the 1024x768 (I think this was the resolution it detected). I thought this was just a one time thing, so I tried it again and the resolution on the top monitor went back to 1024x768. I updated all the drivers with no help. I even tried the latest drivers from nvidia for the quadro m2200 with no resolution.

I have a new X1 Carbon Gen 6 with a Lenovo Thinkpad USB-C docking station. The dock is connected to an external monitor via DisplayPort cable and displays at the same quad HD resolution as the laptop display.  The problem I'm having is that when I plug the laptop into the dock and the external monitor goes on, the display is occasionally jittery for a while. Every few seconds it will jitter. Then it settles down after a while, maybe half an hour to an hour. Any ideas as to what's wrong? Is this a problem with the display adapter in the laptop? Thanks, - bill.

I know this is a common problem, but so far I did not find a solution to it.  The external monitors connected to my prodock via VGA and DVI blacks out every few seconds, especially during heavy usage. At first, I thought it was a power supply issue so I bought a 90W supply. Now the monitors stays on most of the time, but still blacks out every 10 minutes or so, even during standby with minimal power usage. Then I tried editing the integrated graphics settings, updating/rolling back graphics driver, flashing the docking station firmware with every version I can find, and switching to ubuntu on the other drive, but there wasn't a single combination of settings which would keep the external monitor on for more than an hour without blacking out/disconnecting.  So what should I do now?  System info:i7 5600u, 12G RAM, 16G + 128G ssd, 500G hdd, NO 940M, FHD IPS nontouch screen, Windows 10/Ubuntu 16.04Thinkpad Prodock 04A1, 45W/90W power supply. All USB and audio ports works perfectly. Both monitors are 1440x900 at 60Hz, works flawlessly when attached to laptop VGA port.

hi, I have setup one of my faculty with a Yoga 920131KB plus Thunderbolt 3 Dock. He has an existing monitor (Samsung Syncmaster P2450) that should support 1920x1080. Seems to be current on all drivers and patches under Win10 EDU version. (Including the CCG4 Firmware Update to v55). We are using the HDMI output from the dock. If we try to configure extended desktop to the Samsung monitor at 1920x1080, the screen extends off both sides about half an inch. Maybe also a quarter inch over at the top.  As a work-around, set at 1680x1050, video generally works as expected, but the display starts about 2" in from either side. Generally I don't like using add-on utilities (prefer to just use standard windows built-in options), but somewhere along the line this has the Intel Graphics HD Utility.  I was using that to switch resolution, the Windows settings seemed to track along with changes in the Intel utility, but still overscanned the display.  I played with some other settings in the utility about Display Scale (other than 100%), didn't seem to change anything. A second problem occurs with this setup: when the laptop is used at home, put to sleep, then plugged into the dock, the screen is displayed on the external monitor at maybe 200% (?).  That is, you only see the central portion of the image.  No fiddling with settings seems to correct it, but rebooting usually fixes it. The second problem also occurs with a similar Yoga 920 + Dock (d... Also wanted to mention something I noticed while working on this: I saved a log from the Intel Utility. There is a section in there about "Maximum Image Size". Just received a new X1 Yoga 2nd gen laptop with a USB-C dock (40A90090US) and I'm trying to run a three monitor setup.  Tried with the two built in display port connections and the laptop screen, but that's not working.  Currently have it running with one display port, the laptop screen, and the HDMI port on the laptop, but that's not ideal, having to plug in two cables.  I'd prefer to not use the VGA port, but would that be the only way to have two active external monitors coming from the dock in addition to the laptop screen?  Other option is that I could probably scrounge a third monitor, leave the laptop closed and run three monitors off the dock, though as near as I can tell, that dock doesn't support three live monitors.  Looks like I'd need to upgrade to the thunderbolt dock (40AC0135xx) for that to work, is that correct? Thanks for any input...

Hello, I recently bought the Ultra Dock 90 for my T450s.  I have one external monitor currently connected through the dock.  When I push the power button on the docking station (laptop lid closed) to turn on the computer, the computer turns on, but the external monitor does not engage.  When I lift the laptop lid, there is no image on the laptop screen either.  The laptop is on, but does not respond to any key stokes on the actual laptop.  I then have to do a hard reboot using the power button on the laptop. If I initially power the laptop by lifting the lid and hitting the laptop power button, the compter boots and my external screen works.  I can then close the laptop lid and everything is fine. I know the power button on the dock should power the computer and external monitor on.  I am guessing there is a simple solution to resolve this, but I am not a computer person and need help. One thing to note - when I lift the lid after trying to power the laptop through the dock, I see that the Function Green Light is illuminated.  Not sure if this information is helpful in determining the problem. Please help! Peterrabbit33

Hi,
I just received the TB16 dock, using with a Precision 5520 with Ubuntu and an P2415Q external monitor, and am happy with them, except for one regression.
In the past I've adjusted the brightness of the monitor with a command-line program that talks DDC over I2C and it works great changing brightness between morning, afternoon, and night modes.
I purchased the TB16 for the main purpose of providing a single cable connection to everything. But, when I connect the external monitor to the dock the DDC command signals are blocked (or not relayed). In short, I need a second cable to control the monitor.
This defeats the main purpose of the dock, and it is quite expensive for the other features, I certainly could spend less than $300 on a second power supply and usb hub. :-(
The question is then, is anyone aware of this problem, is it possible to be solved, and will it at some point in the future?
Thanks.

This happens sporadically, I am not able to reconstruct this. I´ve red, that an old firmware of the Pro Dock can cause this error, but the Verison 2.33.000 seems to be the newest. I also checked the AC-supply (I´ve red, that a wrong supply can cause this "blackout", this is the 90W / 20V supply which should be okay).Win10 Pro, i7-6600U, 4k monitor via DisplayPort (connected to ProDock), AC-supply: 90W, 20V (Rev: D, Rev: 400)Any suggestions?Thank yo... I have a T460 with Windows 10 Pro. The machine is normally connected to the Ultradock and an external; monitor. When the T460 is in the dock the cover is closed, and I use both an external keyboard and mouse. The problems is that about once in 10 starts, the machine does not transition to the external monitor. I always see the Lenovo logo ion the red box, but about 10% of the time, the screen is blank after that.  I need to kill the computer by holding down the power buton on the dock until the computer goes off. When I restart the machine, 95% of the time it will work properly. I have used Thinkpads in docks in this manner since my old X21 and Windows XP. I have had a number of Thinkpads, both 12 and 14 inch, with XP and Windows 7 since then, and all worked in the respective docks with external monitors. I have never had this problem with the T460 until one of the Windows 10 updates. Is there a solution?

Hi,one of the guys at my workplace uses two displays with his X250 and Pro Dock. One of them is an LCD 1080p connected through DP and the second one was an ancient display with 1440x900p panel connected through VGA. Week ago or so the VGA display started flickering, and is unusable for work since it hurts your eyes after a while.I have tried every solution that was either recommended on the internet or I thought of, yet the problems persist.Until now, I have tried changing the cable, display, Pro Dock, none of that worked. I also tried installing latest firmware from Lenovo Update for the Dock and latest BIOS. I even reinstalled Intel HD Graphics driver, along with some other drivers from Lenovo support page. The display works properly when connected directly to the notebook, only in the dock it starts flickering. Is there anyone that had similiar problem and knows how to fix it?

I have an Optiplex 790 Mini-Tower with an i5-2400 and integrated Intel HD 2000 video.
The case has both a VGA and Display Port connector, I am presently using the VGA port. I am investigating going for a Dual Monitor setup and am confused whether I can do so without having to purchase a discrete video card. I am reading conflicting reports that some say yes and others no. Can some kind soul please confirm one way or the other ?
I do not use the PC for gaming, it is work only with the occasional video and web browsing. Mainly I need dual monitor for multiple file editing, scripting, database programming etc.
Many thanks, Fin.

A:Optiplex 790 Mini-Tower Dual Monitor ?

Hi Fin,
OptiPlex 790's onboard video solution supports both VGA and DisplayPort at the same time. You can connect two monitors to the computer without adding a discrete card.
Please let me know if you need further information.

I have HP Desktop Tower Pavilion with windows 10, I had two HP S2031 monitors in dual mode, worked fine. One of them died, I got a good deal on a larger HP 27er monitor.  I hooked it up, they were both working fine ... it was using a default monitor
setting ... and then yesterday the computer downloaded some updates, and in doing so, it downloaded the driver for the HP 27er and installed.  The next thing that happens is the older HP S2031 starts to go dark ... like it is going into sleep mode, and
then it is totally black.  On reboot, it starts up with both monitors working, but within seconds of reboot the HP S2031 goes black again. The HP S2031's buttons do nothing, other than the power button, which turns it off and on, but that is it.
I have done all troubleshooting, I did not even have them set up to sleep, all settings are at NEVER.  In coming here, I have done all the fixes I can find for similar  that are posted for similar issues, the Windows Key + W... nothing.
The create new power plan ... nothing.  the device manger>display adapters>disable then enable ... nothing.  and lastly Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>display adapter>driver tap>update ... still nothing.  HOW
DO I GET THE HP S2031 MONITOR TO NOT BE IN SLEEP AND HAVE BLACK SCREEN.  I can not figure this out and am not finding any fix.

It has a HDMI out and I have it hooked up to a Dell monitor SE2216H but it will not recognize it. I've switched monitor to HDMI and went in to all settings on the All in One I could find to try and use it. The computer is running Windows 10. Will this All in One support the dual monitor? I've scrubbed the internet with no luck on finding out how. Help please!

System is a Latitude E5570 in E-Port Plus II dock, connected to two Dell U2515H monitors via Display Port.
Primary monitor blanks regularly for 2-3 seconds, but secondary mirror does not.
I have followed all instructions in this knowledgebase article: www.dell.com/.../blanking--flickering-or-blinking-video-issues-on-external-monitor-for-dell-latitude-exx70-exx40--precision-xx10-systems
Unfortunately, no remedy yet.
All graphics drivers are up to date, based on offered driver downloads for my system.
A Latitude E6530 does not show this issue when docked in the same dock with the monitor configuration unchanged. The monitor only blinks when E5570 is in dock. Blinking is irregular, sometimes a few times a minute, sometimes every few minutes, sometimes only each hour.
Changed Display Port cable to primary monitor, did not help.
Monitors are not daisy chained, but connected individually to dock to allow older systems to dock.
Would appreciate any advice.
Thanks!

A:Unresolved 2-3s blinking of external monitor at Dell E-Port Plus II Dock

We had this issue and it was resolved by a firmware update to the MST hub built into the system.  Go to support.dell.com, select your system, select Drivers and Downloads, and search "MST".  Note that sometimes if the OS selected by default there is the one you want, you have to choose some other OS and then switch back for anything to appear.  Anyway, the update you're looking for is Synaptics-VMM3320-MST-HUB-Firmware-Updater_DJG3X_WIN_3.12.1_A03.EXE.  I'd post a link, but most of the time that causes posts to get stuck in moderator queues.  Note that when you run the update, you have to have the system docked with an external display connected and in use, and then restart afterward.

Hi,  I brought a Mini HDMI to DVI cable to use an additional monitor, however i am reading that this dose not typically work with Lenovo's. This seems very stupid! Is there any way to run dual monitor on the 710 or do i need to get a $100 One Link Hub?

Hello,I have just received a new X380 Yoga laptop which I connected to a Lenovo USB c Dock.I have an external monitor linked via VGA or DVI, but in both cases the fonts in my Microsoft Office Products are pretty blurry. My wife has a Lenovo P51s and everything is working fine.Resolution is set to 1920 x 1080. Which is support by the monitor (just purchased a new HP z22 for this reason). Anyone any idea?Only way it works fine is when I duplicate the screen instead of extended or external only. But the fonts are big and I can't benefit from my 16:9 external monitor. It is pretty frustrated. KrgdsYannick

I would like to setup one, preferably two, external monitors on an Inspiron 15 5000 Series Laptop.
I would like the monitors to work independently (extended?)  ie: Be able to use all *two/three separately - shuffle open windows/pages around between them ..

What do I need to do/buy?

I have not bought monitors yet, but have a source for some used corporate surplus. Going to assume they are not 'the latest greatest' and only have standard hookups (vga or dvi?)

Thanks and appreciation in advance ..

Problem: W530 not charging with Mini Dock Plus Series 3 1. My W530's battery charges when not plugged into my Mini Dock Plus Series 3. 2. When the W530 is attached to the dock at first the Windows power icon shows that the W530 is connected to the power brick, and shows that it is charging. Charging lasts for about 15 seconds.  Then it stops charging (but continues to show that it is connected to the power brick) and runs from the battery, I can watch the % charge constantly lower. 3. I have updated the BIOS and Drivers from the Lenovo site, this made no difference. 4. I carefully cleaned the contacts on the W530 and dock, this made no difference. 5. None of the pins on the W530 or dock appear to be damaged, I closely examined them with a magnifying lens. Does anyone have any suggestions and/or ideas to resolve tis problem? Thanks, Bob

I've currently got my W520 setup with the 433835U Mini Dock Plus Series 3, running the internal display, one 1080p monitor on the dock's DVI and one 1440p monitor on the dock's DisplayPort. I'm thinking about purchasing a second 1440p display.  Will be possible to run a second DisplayPort monitor on the dock instead of the 1080p monitor that's currently on DVI? EDIT: I have some extra cabling and adaptors, so I was able to test that the dock can drive both DisplayPorts simultaneously, it's just a question if it can handling 1440p on two screens.

That is not very comfortable... The same monitor connected to a graphic card to my deskop PC is using this 2560X1440 @60Hz with no problem. So what is max resolution of the X240 on a external monitor? Thanks for your help.Marc

Hey there,

today I purchased myself a second monitor (TV) and a VGA cable to go with it. My current monitor uses a VGA cable and works fine. My PC has 2 VGA ports, I plugged my second monitor into the second port. The second monitor is not being detected. Just for testing purposes, I tried switching them round, the 2nd monitor then worked, apart from having no sound, and my first monitor didn't.

Please could I help some help with this? As I hoped I havn't just wasted ?150 on nothing

Any help or advice is appriciated, thanks in advance.

Best Regards, Ben

A:Dual Monitor not being detected

Welcome Benthewolf1

The 2 VGA ports are connected where ? MB, Video card, etc.

Edit: The VGA cable does not transmitt sound to a TV Monitor, HDMI cable does!

When I connect my Thinkpad P50 to my external monitor (Samsung C34F741) directly using the mini Diplayport (connector on the side of the laptop) everything works fine. The resolution 3440x1440 @ 100 Hz and sound on the monitor speakers all work flawlessly. However, when I connect the same external monitor to the Displayport of the Lenovo Workstation Dock (using the same cable), the video works fine (same resolution and refresh rate as above), but the audio on the monitor speakers lags behind the video. The lag is at first barely noticable but increases as time passes, eventually getting out of sync a few seconds. I have the latest nVidia drivers and the latest Workstation Dock firmware installed. I am suspecting the external Displayport on the docking station is not capable of driving the high resolution at such a high refresh rate. Is there indeed a difference is specs between the laptop's Diplayport and the Docking station's Displayport? Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks.
