Q: Lenovo ideapad broken monitor external monitor Windows 10

My laptop's monitor is broken, so I use an external monitor plugged in through an HDMI cord. I updated to Windows 10 and can't figure out how to toggle between display settings. I know you can do Windows + P and select expand, but seeing as I have a broken laptop monitor I can't do anything.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How do you display bios to an external monitor for a Lenovo Ideapad u530 running Windows 10? I can get Windows 10 login page to show on the external monitor but not the bios details. Reason: I have an almost non-functional laptop screen so I'm using the external monitor. What I see in the bios screen (on the almost non-functional laptop screen) is Insydeh20 setup utility. Is there an option in this utility to force the bios to the external monitor?

I have a HP Pavilion laptop with a 180 degree turning monitor and touch screen. The laptop shuts off 1 second after turning it on. I would like to use the monitor as an extended display for my current PC also and HP Pavilion Desktop. I connected my video card (Nvidia 440 GT, It has 1 DVI [used for my current screen] 1 VGA [which i want to use for the laptop] and 1 HDMI) I connected my video card to the laptop using a VGA cable and the buttons around the monitor light up. The screen is NOT detected by Windows(7) but i can choose to connect to the screen anyway by clicking on the multiple displays and choosing to connect using VGA anyway. Basically i can connect to the laptop monitor but am not able to see anything on it, my coputer acts as if it had an extended display. My Question is if i can use this laptop display as an extended display fo my desktop.

I have an HP laptop and I have been running it with dual monitors. I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and after I installed it I noticed that the built in monitor of my laptop looked strange and when I opened the display settings to change the screen resolution and set the external monitor as a separate monitor rather than a mirror I noticed that only one monitor was detected and it was the external one (Generic non-pnp monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter) and the built in monitor does NOT show up at all.

I've tried the detection button, in hopes that the computer would read the built in monitor and I could fix the problem. This did not help. I tried unplugging/replugging the external monitor to no avail. I tried restarting without the external monitor plugged in and it STILL reads the built in monitor as if it is the external one. Is there anyway to fix this? I have not tried re-installing the OS, not yet anyways.

Any suggestions ?

A:Monitor Issues - Laptop Reading Built In Monitor as if it were my external monitor.

Only thing I can think of is to disconnnect the external monitor, uninstall any monitors listed and then reboot and hope the computer installs the correct drivers for the laptop monitor.

Hi everybody, I have the plan to connect a 4k Monitor to my current Z710 Ideapad. As the laptop comes with the GeForce GT745M, which supports resolutions up to 3840x2160 I don't see any bottle neck here. For your reference: Specs of the GT745Mhttps://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-745m/specifications But how about the HDMI socket? WIth what kind of HDMI Port comes the Z710? v1.0 or v1.4, v1,4a?That's very important to know and unfortantely I couldn't find anything about it in the manual of the Z710 Ideapad. Thanks in advance for your help, Kind regards,Michael

My new Ideapad 320-I7IKB worked great for one week with an external HDMI Samsung S27E310 monitor. Then the external monitor started blinking off for about one second, then back on. It blinked off every few minutes. It started happening so often it became unusable. This external monitor worked flawlessly for six months with an HP laptop.  I can move the cable back and forth between my Ideapd and the HP Laptop - works great with HP, blinks with the Lenovo.  I updated all of the Lenovo drivers, did not help.  I called Lenovo support, they bumped me to third tier, to their software group, and they wanted $69 to work on it (again, one week old Ideapad still under warranty).I otherwise really like this Lenovo, I wish it would work with an external monitor.  Looks like I will either need to return this Ideapad or start purchasing random new external monitors hoping that one of them will be compatible with Lenovo's HDMI driver.

i tried to do the same with wndows 7 by choosing the low resolution option, however this doesnt work, i get the initial 'windows is starting' screen then 'no signal'

ive also tried pressing Fn + F5 once windows has loaded.

I purchased a Lenovo Ideapad 510 laptop and spent days transfering and setting up all my programs and files. After a while I noticed a vertical line down the monitor and the resolution was not as good as my old HP but, as I had put in so much effort (and money) into setting it up, and because I need a computer for my job (could not be without it for days), I delayed in sending it back. Now it is out of warranty and the resolution and vertical line problem is still there, I googled the issue but could not find a solution. I am very disapointed with the Lenovo product and would hesitate before buying another Lenovo product. Has anyone out there had this problem and how can I fix it?

Hello, I had a z580, and the screen broke. Being a 5ish year old laptop, I decided to just remove the screen and use it connected to an external monitor. However, when I boot to bios using the novo button, nothing is displayed on the external monitor. I believe it is trying to display on the internal monitor, which is now gone. Switching to the VGA port on my monitor comes back with "No signal". My question is, how can I get the bios to show on an external monitor through the VGA port? Is there a certain key combination I have to press while in bios? Thank you!

I'm looking to buy an external monitor for my Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 (Intel Core i5/Intel HD 4000). More specifically, I would like to drive a 2560x1440 monitor. By looking under the generic external monitor properties in Windows, I discovered the maximum supported resolution is 2560x1600 at 60 Hz for the Intel HD 4000. However, the laptop only has an hdmi port for video output, but I cannot find the supported hdmi standard versions (i.e. if it is 1.3 or 1.4) to figure out the maximum refresh rate I could get. On another thread on these forums (here) some user suggested that the supported hdmi versions should be 1.3 and 1.4, while other users reported that they managed to drive a 2560x1440 monitor but they did not state the resulting refresh rate. How can I proceed to discover the maximum refresh rates I could get with a 2560x1440 resolution? Secondly, I would like to ask if it is possible to use an usb 3.0 to display port adapter to drive the monitor at 60 Hz, and if I could have some suggestions on which type of adapter I should buy in that case.Thank you for your help in advance.

I previously used the same monitor with another laptop under Windows 7 with the VGA port and it worked just fine.

I tried to download the driver for my monitor but they only have it until windows 8...

Can anyone please help?

this IdeaPad 510-15isk of mine the built-in screen is defective so i attached a VGA monitor to the VGA port. i learned somewhere that when a laptop senses, on bootup, that there is an external monitor connected it should send its display to the external device. my laptop doesn't do that and instead it uses the built-in display which i cannot see because it's defective. i also try to get into the CMOS settings using that Novo button but it since it shows the display using the built-in LCD screen i am unable to check nor configure the CMOS to direct all output to external display (which i'm assuming is controlled by the CMOS). since finding how to goto the CMOS settings on this laptop (that Novo button is too small is not well labelled) i thought there might be some hidden feature that would allow me to force the display to go to the external device. btw, the F10 hotkey that is supposed to toggle the display output doesn't do anything. appreciate any help.

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

Anyway to resolve this?

I've been running this Z580 for a year or so, and updated to Windows 10 a couple of months ago. Both the laptop display and an external monitor (HPw1907 vga) have been working fine. The other day, the external monitor just stopped working.   I check the device manager and the Intel HD Graphics 4000 display adapter is disabled, due to a Code 43. I have tried rolling back to an earlier restore point, I've uninstalled and reinstalled several versions of the Intel graphics adapter, up through the current compatible one. The most recent display adapter driver from Intel is apparently not hardware compatible with this adapter. The funny thing, is that the driver wants to work! On booting, while the black and white Lenovo splash screen is displayed, with the little circular Windows logo circling around, I can move the cursor back and forth between monitors. As soon as the screen turns blue (I assume with Windows drivers loading) the external monitor blanks out and I'm back to one screen.  Based on that behavior, I'm wondering if it's not a display driver that is specfically the problem, since I've loaded up the latest drivers several times, but if maybe a recent Windows update has sneaked in a driver or component for something else that is causing the Intel driver to crash. Any thoughts?  Back in earlier versions of Windows, you could have the system load one component at a time during boot, so you could check for incompatibilities. So, if the... Read more

Hi

I am puzzling! I am really not a computery person - but dropped my Acer laptp on the floor, and broke the screen - so bought a dell monitor, plugged it in, and it works - but only in SAFE mode. I have tried the Fn F5 or F6 keys, and that doesnt work. When I do that it just freezes to the screensave on my laptop (a lovely picture of my cat!!) however wont let me use any keys or anything.

I dont know much about drivers or anything... I am just completely baffled, and really have no idea what to do now! When I went to windows help, it talked about setting the external monitor, but it couldnt detect a second monitor (even though I am clearly using it RIGHT now in safe mode!!)

Please can someone help me - in simple terms?

Thanks

Mazz

A:Broken laptop screen - only detects external monitor safe mode!?

Hi Mazz,

The 'external display' does not seem to be supporting the 'graphic drivers'. Please follow these steps:
- Boot to 'Windows' in 'Safe Mode'
- Access 'Device Manager' and expand the category 'Display Adapters' > Right click and uninstall the 'Video Drivers' > Follow through with the uninstall process > Restart the unit
- Click Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook, Ultrabook / Aspire / Aspire 5332 to 'Download and Install' the appropriate 'Display driver' for your unit
Note: Please filter search results by selecting the 'Operating System' installed in the unit. You may also want to check the system configuration in detail; it comes with an optional 'AMD' graphics adapter. Uninstall and Re-install the driver that is applicable to your system.

Hope this helps.

A:Can't connect external monitor to Ideapad 320-15IKB with HDMI cable

Hi, welcome to the forum.

My guessing on this are  will be:

1) Try the "Windows Key + P" combination, try the extend and duplicate to see if you get an image on the monitor.
2) You already tried different HDMI cables, it may be interesting to also check some other TV that  you may have arround to see if you get image. Also, if you use some apdater (DP to HDMI or other) it may be interesting to try some others.
3) Go to  the support site of the "Ideapad 320-15IKB" and update the BIOS and the Video drivers. Lenovo Vantage can also help you to have you drivers up to date.

After trying that, if you get no good results, maybe it is some hardware issue.

Regards

Hi,First, it would be fantastic if I could get this all figured out before the end of Cyber Monday!  I plan to buy an external monitor to connect to my Z70-80 laptop running Windows 10. I need help understanding which monitor resolutions will be possible with this laptop, what the negative effects on image quality would be if I purchase a monitor with a higher resolution than my laptop supports, which connectors are available on my PC and which connector is the best to use. I am a photographer and need clear, crisp images and accurate color to edit my photos.  I'm looking at monitors that are 27" IPS with 2560x1440 (2k) resolution such as the BenQ PD2700Q 27" 16:9 IPS Monitor. When I look up my graphics card in the Device Manager, there are two listings and I have no idea which one controls max resolution via the HDMI port and I have no idea how to find out the max resolution either card supports:Intel HD Graphics 5500NVIDIA GeForce 840M I read somewhere that if I get a monitor with a resolution higher than my graphics card (via HDMI) will support, I will be disappointed in the image quality, which could be blurry. (Can graphics cards be upgraded in the Z70-80??) I also read that the method of connecting the monitor to the PC partly determines the quality of the image, with a VGA connector being the worst, HDMI next best, and DisplayPort being best. In looking at my documentation, I believe I have an HDMI port, but I don't believe ... Read more

I have a Lenovo Y50-70 that I would like to connect to an external monitor, and I am unsure whether the computer is able to use the dedicated Nvidia GPU in this case, or if it is limited to the integrated Intel GPU only (meaning low FPS). Also, if I output the same (native) resolution (1920x1080) to a 24" screen from a 17" one, would graphics look considerably worse on a game with medium-high settings?Any help is appreciated.Cheers!

Hi there, Medvesa                   -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You'd have to look around in the Nvidia Control Panel for that one. But your browser should be using your dedicated GPU for x264 decoding if you have hardware acceleration enabled.
Update us how it goes.

Whenever I attach a monitor to my Lenovo Y700 15ISK, the colors on my built in display are fine, but the colors on the monitor are over saturated and just plain off. I've tried adjusting the colors on both the montor itself and in the Intel Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. I've downloaded all the drivers I could and tried multiple different monitors and HDMI chords, so I'm not sure what is going wrong here. Does anybody know of any solutions to this? Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Lenovo Yoga 13 max resolution for external monitor

Dear undersound,

Welcome to Lenovo Community,

The Yoga 13 has the Intel HD Graphics 4000 so its maximum resolution is 1600 x 900 IPS (wide viewing angle) so on the external monitor it will not display 1900x1200 FHD.

Best Regards,

Assal
