Mouse disappears off screen and icons missing

Q: Mouse disappears off screen and icons missing

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Since the upgrade I have noticed the following:

When my computer comes alive from screen saver mode, sometimes though not always all the icons are missing. The task bar is there but clicking on any item there does nothing. It's like everything just seizes up.

Any solutions please. It is frustrating.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds like you have a virtual desktop that got added somehow. Click on the taskbar icon that looks like the square with two ears (next to Cortana in my screen shot. See if you have more than one desktops and close the extra one.

Hello, I have a Dell laptop 15R 2nd Gen i-5 processor running Windows 7 Home 64bit.

The problem I am having is this: Mouse disappears on right side of screen. The entire right side of screen (not just in the lower corner). If I move the mouse 6 inches to the right off screen, then I would have to move it 6 inches to the left again until it re-appears. If I moved the pointer 1 foot to the right, I would have to move it 1 foot to the left until the pointer re-appeared again.

It's as if the pointer kept going on to a hidden screen??

A:Mouse Pointer disappears RIGHT side of screen

Looks like a mismatch between physical resolution and the larger virtual desktop resolution. Should that be the case, a few users prefer the larger space to work with and can navigate and bring into view the unseen parts as needed.

Hi all:I hope that this is the right board for this problem, even though it may not be primarily a "Touch" issue.  My problem is that I keep losing my pointer/cursor on my HP laptop. Here are my specs and details of the problem based on a set of questions that I found on another thread: What make / model computer? HP Pavilion 15-n216us What operating system? Windows 10 64bit upgraded from Win 8. Does the mouse left alone disappear or are you clicking on something and then it just disappears? It only (and always) happens when I touch the screen. The cursor disappears instantaneously when I touch the screen. It happens whether I have a USB mouse plugged in or not. How do you normally resolve the issue? Except for restarting the laptop, the only way that I can get the cursor back is to go to Personalize/Themes/Mouse Pointer settings. I then have to close the Mouse Pointer settings windows (clicking OK) while shaking the mouse. How is your mouse connected to your computer? Wireless but as stated above, it also happens when the mouse is not plugged in. One screen or two screens? If one, have you ever used two? One screen, never two. More information:1) The cursor is not set to disappear when typing.2) I read that this could be a problem with the Touchpad, so I downloaded the Synaptics Pointing Device driver for my laptop from the HP website. When I attempted to install it, I got a message that I already have a newer driver than the... Read more

I have a problem with the screen of my Satellite U840T

Thank you for yours help

A:Satellite U840T - Mouse disappears right of the screen and bottom

Hi

I?m confused.
Your issue isn?t described very well.

What do you mean exactly by: ?Mouse disappears right of the screen and bottom in black bars at the top??
Do you mean the touchpad or cursor?
The notebook?s touchpad supports the Gesture control feature (Multi Touch) and this feature could be configured in touchpad settings:
+Control panel -> mouse -> Device settings tab -> Settings+

There you can find also the option called ?Edge swipes? which opens the Charms bar, app Switcher, and Application bar just by moving finger from the edge of the touchpad in towards the center.

In such case the cursor would not be visible.

Lately my pointer is disappearing after i login from sleep or locked computer.

I had this problem in the past but it got solved after i restored my PC, now it came back to haunt me.
I am guessing some updates disrupted with the mouse cursor (not an expert opinion).

I've tried many things but the issue seems to be persistent.

Here are some things I've tried with no results:

Changing the pointer options (hide while you type, pointer trails, ctrl to highlight) and combinations of them.

I tried using different pointers (Black, White, Black small, etc)

Also tried using troubleshooting the software changes, sfc /scannow, clean registry with ccleaner, rebooting (many times).

It seems to be a problem with no concrete solution.

The only solution that I found is (Clt-Alt-Del) it changes the screen and the pointer appears again, if I lock the computer it is gone once more.

If somebody can help i would appreciate it.

thanks

Mouse Pointer Disappears in IE when trying to add Google as Default Search Engine and Completely in Chrome. Solutions require IE Performance Troubleshooter which is missing in MS10
Mouse pointer started disappearing in Chrome and no solutions have worked. It appears there is a driver update to MS10 from wch.cn - Ports which I can not roll back without a full restore of MS10 to previous date. At first, changing Chrome:Settings
(turning off hardware acceleration) worked, for about an hour. Giving up on Chrome, started using IE10, but I want to use Google search engine. Cannot add the Google add on so that I can change the default search engine. Symptoms include the mouse pointer
disappearing on any Google page or related page and even using the touch screen, Google add on will not add. This bug (or virus) pretty much prevents use of Google and Chrome and how there is not a solution for this as of yet, by either MS or Google, is beyond

Hello, This is kind of a difficult issue to explain but I will try.

Occasionally my desktop icons and/or the taskbar go black/missing and do not reappear until I hover my mouse over the area where they should have been.

Another issue I occasionally have is that when I have a program open (like MS Outlook for example) and have one or more desktop folders open which overlap the program, I will minimize the folder, but it will leave these little black boxes or this weird "imprint" of that folder i just minimized onto the maximized MS Outlook or whatever program I have open. The only way it goes away usually is when I minimize and maximize all folders or programs that i have open or hover it with my mouse until it goes away and displays correctly.

Again I know this is a little hard to explain, especially the 2nd issue I noted above with the "imprint" and black boxes, but fortunately, I was able to catch the 1st issue above this morning on video and am attaching it so you can see exactly what im talking about. The zip file I attached has the video in two formats; .MOV and .WMV.

Some important things I think I should note:
-I have a dual monitor setup
-This is a new dell XPS8900 desktop PC running windows 7 Pro 64 bit - 6th gen i7-6700, 8gb Ram, 500gb SSD, 2gb Nvidia graphics card

I went away for the weekend, and when I came back and turned on my computer there were a ton of problems seemingly out of nowhere.

On startup it displayed the "Windows failed to shut down normally" screen, which was strange because I had shut it down normally before leaving and nobody else could have used it. So I clicked "Start Windows normally".

Then when it got to the desktop there was immediately an error of the ATI catalyst control center, and also "MOM.exe - .NET framework initialization error, unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application". When I tried opening Google Chrome it said that some part of the application was corrupt, same with GNotifty. My AVG antivirus was also marked with a caution sign saying "you are not protected".

Hoping it was just a fluke, I restarted, and Windows presented me with the option to do a Startup Repair during the boot, which I did. It ran for about 45 mins, and then loaded to the desktop to present the same errors, only this time there are desktop icons missing randomly and the mouse doesn't work. I tried changing USB ports for the mouse, as well as trying another mouse, and it still doesn't work.

Next impulse was to run memtest from a bootable CD, so I tried opening my optical drive and strangely it registers the button push and displays a green light but just doesn't open.

Stuck for what to do now. Does anyone have any ideas on what the heck is wrong? As far as... Read more

I went through this same thing. The folders that say empty...are they light rather than normal? If so you didn't change the setting for files and folders correctly (I did the same thing at first) Open up windows explorer (my computer, etc) click on organize, then go down to folder and search options:

On the first tab (general) under navigation pane make sure "show all folders" is selected.

Then go to the next tab (view) and make sure those settings are correct, select the radio for "show hidden files, folders and drives" and make sure all your other settings are the way you want them.
I got mine from clicking on a link to a website I'd never gone to before and then what i thought was adobe told me that I needed to update my flash player to view the content on the page, I clicked ok and it took over my computer with the same exact things you're talking about.

I've also tried the classic drag and drop method, but it wont let me drop it into the right-hand side. The icon just isn't there anymore, its driving me insane. Hi, Dood

Welcome.

NTS.exe sounds like malware.

Lets discard that possibility.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

This happened after I uninstalled all my metro apps this morning, rebooted then reinstalled them. Chrome also updated in the meantime.

They're the only icons that are broke so clearly something has happened between now and then to stop icons displaying properly for new programs.

Is it worth rebuilding icon cache? Not sure the icons for metro are the same as filetype icons in Explorer though.

Sony VAIO. Typical problem. You need to call their tech support if still under warranty. If out of warranty, reinstall the 8 disc recovery set.
It may be a spyware, trojan, or virus problem, but that is not helpful if you cannot boot up to fix it.
The Sony VAIO does not allow a Windows XP repair... only recovery or restore of the original install set... so you may be forced to reformat and reinstall.

Hi all

I am having problems logging into a windows XP home SP3 pc

There is a lot of history to this problem which I wont go into unless asked

The current situation is that XP is booting to what looks like the normal log on screen.

I have the dark blue bars top and bottom (bottom bar no shutdown icon or usual text)

Centre light blue section with no centre bar or user icons, then only thing on this area is the text "Windows XP" with the window symbol above

The ctrl+alt+del twice don't work but alt+tab revels a windows log on screen with two text boxes (this is not like the NT log on screen)

As soon as I let go of the alt key the screen pops to the back and is obscured again

Any ideas what I can do to fix this

Scan with antivirus
Download and scan with malwarebytes. Make the long 90 minute scan and update before using
If this is negative go to device manager, look for yellow warning markers and make sure that you have the most current firmware for graphics card and that graphics driver is up to date.

Okay, here's a really weird one that I am at a total loss to understand. Like most people, I have customized my Favorites folders with individually selected icons for internet shortcuts ... some home-made using icon software. I have just upgrated from IE6 to IE7, and all of the internet shortcut icons have diappeared, to be replaced by a generic IE7 icon. What's more, it won't let me replace the generic icon with anything else. However, when I switch from Tile, Thumbnail or Icon view to List or Details view, the original IE6 icons (including the home-made ones) are back!!

Anyone know what up with that???

I have a brand new HP Pav-510 P127c. I am using a Logitech M305 Wireless mouse. The mouse disappears several times a day. I haven't noticed any thing in specific to cause the mouse to disappear. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the mouse driver. The only way to get the mouse to reappear is to do a hard reboot. I've tried moving the wireless mouse adaptor to a different USB port - no luck. Thank you in advance.

Hi,
I need a little help.
At random time mouse freezes then shows up at projected path. tried cleaning mouse and pad seemed to work but now problem is getting worse. problem happens whether online or off. Had a popup loader trojan recently but msse got it i think. but it wasn't too long after that the problem started. wondering if mouse is just going or if a virus is problem.
Optical mouse not usb. Running windows 7 pro 64 w/sp1. I have been running msse and norton 360 together since msse came out and haven't had a problem until now. also have spyware blaster. Scans with msse, mbam, superantispyware, eset and norton 360 have come up clean. HJT doesn't show anything unusual. Task manager doesn't show anything running but idle.
By the way just want to say thanks for all the information you have put out there. I have used your site as guide to help out my family many times.

A:Mouse Disappears and freezes

Hello.I can almost guarantee you that this isn't malware. . . based on your description it sounds to me like severe performance problems.I have been running msse and norton 360 together since msse came outI'd start here. Get rid of either MSE or Norton. I'd recommend losing Norton, but it's up to you.I do not recommend that you have more than one antivirus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false positives". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:1) False Positives: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time.See if your issue gets better after uninstalling one of the AVs.~Blade

My Intellimouse pointer disappears from time to time in my windows 98 second edtiton.

A:Mouse pointer disappears

Do you have the Intellipoint software installed? Has the mouse always done this? If not, when did it start? What programs/hardware were installed when this started? Is it only when typing (that's a feature in MS's Intellipoint software!)? If you have the Intellipoint software installed: Uninstall and reinstall it. If not, goto control panel->system->device manager and uninstall the mouse and reboot.

Dear Friends:

Sometimes for no apparent reason my mouse pointer disappears. It usually happens on the Internet but once I go off it continues off line as well. Itís really weird, you can see the mouse pointer and then as you pass over certain areas on the page it seems to go behind certain things on the page and then come out on the other side of them. An example is when youíre on a site and go to click on a link of some kind as soon as the pointer gets to it, it disappears and if you continue to move it, it come out on the other side. I also notice that if I go to write on a word document, the pointer is only seen on the tool bars and totally disappears on the page. Please help me if you can, it drives me crazy. The only thing I can do is turn off the computer, turn it back on and work until it decides to do it again.
God Bless

Uncle Bob

A:Mouse Pointer Disappears

Hi unclebob, Welcome to TSG !!
What Operating System are you using?
Try going to start, settings, controlpanel. Click on the Mouse applet. Go to pointer settings. Move the slider to the left one notch at a time to see if that works. Hit apply after each time. Try Unchecking pointer trails.

My brother's HP Vista laptop's mouse pointer disappears at time to time.
It is annoying. I do not know what more information is needed.
Does he need to update the mouse driver or something?
On google, people had this issue as well but I found no real resolution.
Did this happen to someone that can lend advice?
Any help is appreciated. BTw, I do not think this is spyware or virus related.

Thanks to all in advance.

Hi,

I have been playing "Insider-The Stolen Venus" I have the cd and also had downloaded when purchased online, I recently bought a cd which had multiple games on it and this was one. I thought I would try it again to see if It would work.

This is a hidden object game, The first half plays fine, then I get to a scene, (same scene i played earlier) just different things to seach out, and I have no mouse? it's gone.

Could this be my video card? which is very sad, if it is why does it work up until that point? Could I disable the 3d acceleration on my computer? is there anything I could do to fix ? or am I out of luck? I really like this game so any help would be appreciated.

I a running Intel Celeron 1.70 GHz, 512mb ram, Windows XP SP3, Intel Graphics Controller , 64mb video ram, 3D yes, free disk space 61.8 GB

A:Solved: Mouse Disappears

Hey Bratt,

Just a guess, but try this... it's harmless.

When that happens, press alt-tab and continue to hold alt. A small prompt should come up in the middle of the screen. Try to refocus on your game by continuing to press tab until your game is selected again. Also, look for a firewall exception prompt, or any new window that might halt the game at this point.

If this makes your game work again, the game developer made a boo boo.

If this does nothing, the application has lost your mouse as an input. Again, this is rarely your fault if your mouse works for everything else.

Try plugging your mouse (assuming USB) directly into the system. If another device is drawing too much power, it can lag the mouse and give garbage to the program.

That's the best I have for now, but better than anyone else was doing..

I created my own custom theme on Win7 that just has a solid dark blue colored background. When I boot up, the icons on the desktop don't have their text shadow, and looks like this:

If I right-click my desktop, go into Personalize, switch to Win7 default theme, then back to my theme, the text shadow for the icons comes back.

I want the text shadow showing at all times. How do I fix this issue?

I love my Macbook Pro, smooth, simple, quick and high quality.  But when you need a windows machine for work purposes what better than opting for a Lenovo? I bought this Yoga 500 just over a week ago and the mouse pointer keeps disappearing on me, if I don't reboot to get it back, it decisdes eventually to make an appearance, this is annoying enough because while I am ok using a touch screen, I'd rather not for many applications and just use my mouse. Let's not talk about the painful operation of the mouse "buttons" at the bottom of the touch pad, lets instead wonder how the mouse pointer could be so jerky around the screen? Should I now be cursing the day I decided to buy this Lenovo? Is there a fix for these issues and if so when will they come or indeed is there anyone with similar problems that may have already fixed these? Thanks

I've just received my new PC, complete with Vista home premium.

I've checked the video drivers and they match the newest release on the Nvidia site. (GeForce 8600 GT). I installed City of Heroes, and when I launch it, once it loads, the mouse pointer disappears. The mouse still functions, you just can't see it. It's as if the mouse is operating from beneath the game's images. City of Heroes claims that I may be using old drivers, but I think they have it wrong...

I've tried monkeying around with the mouse settings and the graphics settings. Is there anything I can do here?

Thanks.

Hi, I recently had issues with my graphics card. My Display wouldn't work, after I had installed drivers, my POST would show fine, then windows loading came up fine. But then it would do a funny thing and go to a black screen when Win Log-on loaded. I went through a ton trying to figure out what it was and no avail, I used my old card and it worked seemingly well.
So I RMA'ed my latest card that wasn't working (waiting to hear back about it.)

Now I'm running fine on a brand new card, until the other day.

Everything has been going great until recently my computer started loading with the POST flashing on screen for maybe 1/2 a second then disappearing when I have it set in BIOS to flash for 5 seconds. Then it will reappear upon the log on screen and all is well. I kind of brushed this off as finally things were going well and running. Then my mouse has progressively gotten worse ingame. Both on CS GO and PAYDAY 2. I will be playing and the mouse will freeze and I cannot aim but can move (keyboard) perfectly well. Sometimes (less than half) I will hear the windows sound of it being "disconnected" and then magically works again after a few seconds without the "connected" sound going off. The rest of the time it just freezes and then the game tries to catch back up with it. As if I was looking forward and went to turn left but my screen stayed looking forward, then after it's done with the hang I am turned left. Which makes me think it isn't th... Read more

After the computer wakes up from sleep, sometimes it will disappear and if you hoover over things, you can still click on them, just the physical mouse is gone.

This is a docked laptop with one monitor. Only does it when docked, does not have 2 monitors.

If you log off and back on, it comes back or restart.

A:Mouse Randomly disappears but are able to still click on things

That is very very odd I have never had this problem before. One more question do you use the the built in monitor or an external one
