Serious Problem Operating System Not Found on Computer

Q: Serious Problem Operating System Not Found on Computer

Not sure if this is the right forum for this because it seems to be an issue in a few different parts of the computer but here's the problem.
When I start my son's IBM Laptop, the IBM Logo comes up and then some sort of clicking/whirring sound comes from where the Hard Disk Drive on the computer is. AFter this occurs for a few seconds it searches the computer for something and then the following message comes up:
PXE=E6I: Media Test Failure, Check Cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent
Operating Systems Not Found

After that nothing happens. I'm pretty much a novice with computers, so I'm really not sure about any kind of hardware-related issues, which is what it seems like this probably is. Any help or suggestions that anyone has, I would be grateful. I realize there is a good possibility I will have to take this to a pro to get it fixed, but its a Saturday, so if anyone has any suggestions that I may be able to try before Monday, please let me know.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It sounds like you may need a new harddrive. To be sure, make sure all the harddrive cables are firmly connected, especially the power. If it's an ATA disk, try a different slot on the IDE cable and make sure the jumpers on the disk are set correctly.

In task manager I accidently closed an explorer process, the laptop then crashed. So I closed it down, then it now is unable to find the operating system. Can anyone offer any advice on how to help it find the files it needs to boot?

Can this be done by using the command prompt? Start up repair ran for over 24 hours with no success.

I've had this Sony Vaio VPCEE3WFX/BJ for about a year now. It was working fine until a couple of days ago. My little sister was on it and was playing Poptropica and that was the only thing she did on there. After shutting down the computer, I didn't turn it on until the next day. After pressing the power button, I got the Vaio screen or whatever the screen is called. After that screen has loaded, Operating System Not Found appears out of nowhere. I turned the computer on and off a couple of times but I still received the "Operating System Not Found" After I tried turning it off and on, I tried turning it on again but pressing F8 so that I could get some start up options. I was able to get to the screen and select "Start Windows Normally" From that point, I can get to the login screen and my desktop. The only problem with that is that it takes around 20 minutes to get to the login screen. Once I enter my password, it takes around 10 minutes to get past the login screen. Once past the screen, I get a black screen with the cursor in the middle. If I wait around an hour or so, the desktop will finally load and I will be able to do what I please with one condition. If try and open a program or anything it takes around 10 minutes to load it up and if I try to load a page on Google Chrome, it takes around 5 minutes just for one page.I was thinking about calling Sony to see if there was any way I could send in the laptop for repair before the warranty expires whic... Done a little more digging as this seems to be a harddrive problem. In BIOS at startup, it does see my harddrive, IEO something or other, I will post in a sec with it exactly. I'm using a Ubuntu startup disk which will also see the drive in disk manager, and I have performed a benchmark speed test for it, which it seemed to do ok in. However, I cannot access the drive in ubuntu, not sure if it's just me not sure what to do, but it doesn't show up in places anywhere.

Also, I can't seem to start in safe mode. The message in my previous post, broadcom whatever, comes up before pressing f8 has any effect.

First enter BIOS setup to see if HD registers there. If not it may have failed. Test it to be sure by downloading, burning to CD with Windows Image Burner then running a full scan with the HD maker's HD Diagnostic DOS scan.

You can also try accessing it through the door on back to reinstall it to see if it is failing to make contact when plugged in.

Videos for doing this and replacing the HD if necessary are available by googling your model name/number and + replace HD.

If you replace the HD you can run Factory Recovery disks you made at setup or order from Sony support, or get a superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

If HD is intact work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot

I start my computer and get "No operating system found. Press Ctrl Alt Deleteto restart" I think I set my C partition so it doesn't boot on it and boots on the Z partition which has nothing in it. Or unallocated space.

I think when i was trying to create a new partition in Windows 8 setup it screwed it up..... Because that was the last thing i did before i turned it off and got the message......

A:I start my computer and get "No operating system found. Press Ctrl....

This is out of context without the previous information in your thread at Dynamic Disk conversion help (HxD hex editer shows 01C2 is a 0??) - Windows 7 Forums.]

You last reported there that after recoversion to Basic, Win8 was trying to boot on another letter. I gave you the fix for that just now.

Has this latest failure happened ever since you reconverted to Basic disk, or just since trying to create a Win8 partition? How did you attempt this exactly? Did you then proceed to install Win8 to the partition as you should to have it auto-configure a Dual Boot? If not do that now.

Please post a camera snap of the Partition Wizard CD drive map with listings so that it isn't the size of a postage stamp.

I was copying my files on a USB, then I took it out ( without safely removing) and went out. When i got back, the laptop has already shut itself. when i turn it on it goes Operatin System Not Found. I use windows 8.1 and only 1 hard drive. When the PC goes into VAIO care rescue mode everything is white with options like start BIOS steup, contact support, start from media .... etc which are not at all helpful, unlike others problems which makes the screen black. but the same thing happens to me when i change boot mode to Legacy, but back to normal when to UEFI. i don't have any disc. from what i know the product key is in the UEFI thingy in the computer.

When I start BIOS setups it still shows
System Memory : 12288mb
Hard Disk Drive : 1000gb ( so i presume the hard drive still works)

Methods that worked for others but not me :
1. Taking out the HDD, give it a blow and put it back in.
2. Changing Boot to legacy
3. Changing the boot order to every combination i could.
4. Use a program called Wondershare Liveboot.
5. Reinstall windows 8.1 using a USB boot media, which was downloaded from microsoft home page.
6. Using command promt from USB boot media /scannow

the problem also lies in my little knowledge about computer matter. I couldn't find out if the HDD still works, what version or name it has, don't know how to update the bios as well. Please help me guys

Hi My husband & I bought our son a Toshiba Satellite A215 Laptop (w/ Vista) 2 Christmases ago. He has had virtually no trouble with this machine until 2 weeks ago. He pretty much leaves it on 24/7 with no problems (to my surprise), but the other day he came back to find the "No Operating System Found" displayed. After a length of time we came to the conclusion that the Hard Drive was the issue, so we replaced it. It worked like a charm....until last night, that is. To our dismay the "No Operating System Found" display is back. So, if it isn't the hard drive, what could it be?

Some things to consider are: he has not downloaded anything new recently and has a AVG Free as his antivirus, with Advance System Care and Smart Defrag for upkeep. None of these are new and he has not experienced any compatibility issues with them.

There were no advanced warnings to the problem, but afterward, there was some clicking. We were able to get into BIOS to see that the hard drive was not showing up. We tried using the recovery disc to reinstall windows but it would only start up the process, it would not complete the action until we replaced the hard drive all together. I do not know if we have the recovery disc OR the actual Windows OS disc.

Display reads as follows:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.

Make sure the hard disk is properly inserted in the laptop and has not come loose. You will need a screwdriver to remove the hard disk panel to check. That would be the first thing to check. Post back after you have done so and we will provide further steps if needed.

It sounds like the hard drive has failed. If you have the Windows 98 and driver installation disks that may have come with the laptop way back when, you could buy a replacement hard drive and reinstall everything and be good to go.

Hello everybody. What's a nice day, I'm glad to see you etc...
Yesterday evening : my main browser (Comodo Dragon) coudn't catch the connection to Internet in spite of the fact my laptop 'said' it was connected. I tried Internet Explorer - and there wasn't any problem.
But after using, Internet Explorer jammed so hard that I had to turn off my laptop and turn on again. After 15-30 minutes the same situation. So I turned off and turned on - and the same again. But there was a catch : I coudn't turn on it after turning off.
While I was trying to turn on it system told me about problems with Windows (and maybe with volumes). So i turned off and turned on again. There was a grey screen. And no way to reach the Windows. I took my battery of the laptop, waited 2 minutes and tried to run my laptop. Grey screen. I went to bed.
Today the same situation. So I tried with Linux (pendrive) but Linux Mint had also some problems, so the problem isn't only in Windows I guess. I took of the pendrive with Linux and turn on the computer again : grey screen. So I did what I was able to do. Because I'm a woman I started to click all the keys on keybord. Nothing special. So I retried and Windows ran.
Now Comodo Dragon is working despite not working yesterday.
I don't know why did it happen. Something like DDoS or breaking into the computer (I thought like that because of overloaded browsers)? I checked ip from which was the last logging in and It was mine. Where's the problem? I don't want t... Read more

A:Problem with turning on the computer, doesn't matter which operating system

Alright can you describe the grey screen are there words, errors , your mouse cursor on the screen or is it just a plain Grey screen. I don't think this is a ddos attack if it was you should call you local authorities as it is illegal. Now try to run malwarebytes antimalware and it should pop up with a screen saying if you want to start a trial for 14 days if you don't want to just select no (gives you the exact same scanning ability) and then update your database and run a threat scan tell me what it finds and after that run a full scan with your antivirus and tell me what it finds.

My Sony Vaio (VGN-FS920) laptop crashed Sunday night, sudden black screen and unresponsive. I turned the computer off and tried to turn it back on and it would not boot. I then used a shareware utlity boot disk (called Hiren's Boot Disk) to troubleshoot and try to reboot.

My OS is WinXP Home SP2. I use Norton Corporate for my antivirus and malware zapping needs.

I used a utility to check the physical hard drive and it passed its tests.

I looked at message logs using a file manager and data recovery application and saw two messages that have me concerned. "Operating system not found" and "error loading operating system".

Earlier in the day, I used Norton Corporate with 8/22/09 virus definitions to check for any malware. I already had two files in quarantine and was trying to repair them. The repair did not work, but the delete function did. I suppose it's highly likely that I unintentionally deleted some sort of OS command line in doing this.

So far, nothing is working beyond browsing programs on the boot disk that I'm using. All the data (from looking at files using OnTrack Data Recovery) seems to be intact, but is inaccessible. I do not have any Windows software with me (I'm currently working in South Korea) to re-boot or re-install the OS. There is not enough room on the hard drive to copy its contents to itself in a new partition and it doesn't seem to recognize any USB external drives.

My laptop is also my telephone, my telev... Read more

Here's some basic ideas for you to try if you have access to another computer.

1) You can actually download a version of xp from a filesharing website such as mininova, as long as you own a legitimate version of xp yourself(be careful though it is not without its risks) and have the serial key handy (probably on a sticker underneath the laptop) burn it to disk using an iso image burning software, providing the computer you are using has a dvd burner. Once burned to disk, restart your laptop with the cd inserted in the drive and providing that the bios options allow for the cd to boot 1st before the hard drive. The xp setup screen will appear and follow the instructions until you come to the repair options and follow the instructions to repair it. This idea technically isn't piracy if u own a version in question.

2) Download and install a version of Linux (I recommend personally Kubuntu) Which is totally free. This is only a temporary restbit as i know you would want XP back but if you have the money, i'd order another copy.

Hope this helps and sorry if it doesn't.

Operating System not found

Hi All,

I have an IBM Laptop running Windows XP. The laptop is used exclusively at home, so it wasn't damaged in a move.

What happened: I tried to shut down the computer, however the computer seemed to be locked up, so I pushed the power button. It powered down just fine, but when I tried to power it back up, a strange clicking noise began as the hard drive began to stir. Then, the main screen came up, allowing me to choose F1 or F12 (I chose neither), went to the black screen, appeared to begin booting normally and then stopped immediately. The last line on the black screen:
Operating System not found.

This can't be good! I did some searching on the web, and learned that this can be anything from a displaced pointer, to a hosed hard drive. Can anyone help me trouble shoot this? I do not have a boot disk or any of the XP software disks (misplaced in a move), so if there is a place where I can download any software I may need, I would appreciate it if you could point out the location. A wacky one that I am hoping somone may be able to help me with please.

A couple of times, in the last few days, when I have booted my HP Laptop it has started the boot cycle and come back with an error message saying "saying operating system not found." This morning, it did it three times, but on the fourth boot it went into Windows. This afternoon, he did it once and when I rebooted it went into Windows.

I went into (C: ) Properties/Tools and did a check disk; but that seemed to be OK.

Is it likely to be a hardware or a software problem? Any tips on how to fix it would be appreciated.

I shut down my comp and left for a few days, when I returned and tryed to start my comp it said operating system not found. It is an HP and I'm running Windows XP. It does the same thing everytime. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thank you!

A:Operating system not found

Go into the BIOS and check to see what your boot order is and put IDE-0
first, CD-ROM second and floppy third, [check your drives first to make sure you don't have a floppy or CD in one of your drives, make sure you save the changes and re-boot. Also why don't you check your system restore to see if you have a restore point to let you go back to when your computer was 0.K.

Hi, My HP Mini seems to come up with the "Operating System Not Found" error most times it reboots. The last time was when it had to do a Windows Update. It rebooted to finish but came up with that error. I have found that if I unplug the PC for several minutes and plug back in and the press the power button it boots normally again. How do I prevent this error from happening? Thank you in advance.

I had started my computer and gone into Windows Explorer. Before I had done anything else, I had to walk away. When I came back I had an error message that the operating system was not found. I hit ctrl + alt + del, the computer restarted. It did the same thing. I tried again, and tried to go into safe mode, the computer didn't go into that screen. I hard booted it and tried again, it still didn't work. I tried again and tried to go into system restore, that also didn't work.

Any Help, Any suggestions?

I tried to restore my laptop to factory default today and i must have clicked the wrong option because it deleted my Hard Disk. now when i try to start it it says Operating system not found. Is there any way i can fix this? Oh and i have Windows 7 Starter edition, and its a Toshiba notebook laptop

A:Operating System Not found.

Can you boot to the Recovery partition (I assume that requires tapping a key at power on time; check Toshiba web site or your documentation for which key)? If so, try the recovery to factory defaults again.

Did you make a set of Recovery DVDs or CDs?

Yesterday My Lg LS 55 express started making a funny whirring sound so i shut down. On restarting i got the message Operating system not found on the top left corner. i tried the recovery system but in the middle would keep getting the message setup failure.

On entering the BIOS saw the hard drive was not being detected so replaced the hard drive with a new one (exactly the same config only larger capacity).

Then the system wouldnt boot from the recovery cd in the cd drive. I just kept showing the LG logo for about 5 secs then going blank and then again the logo etc etc.

Showed it to my friend whos a tech and he tried booting from a external drive. He managed to install Xp on the hard drive but it still will not boot from the hard drive.

After making some changes in the BIOS it is now installing the OS from the internal cd drive but after completing i get the message operating system not found. THe HDD is detected in the BIOS now

Any suggestions??? thanks

Has anyone checked out the PSU voltage? Your MB Bios might include a computer health area that might give some answers.

Hello all i have fujisru siemens amilo li 2735 laptop and 2 weeks ago it wouldnt load up it just came up with a black screen sayin no operating system found, so i took it back to the place where i bought it from as it was under guarntee and they sent it to there repair man and he said it was the hard drive it had been totally wiped clean and said there is absoultey nothing at all on the hard drive thats why my computer wasnt booting up they wanted me to pay 50 for it to get fix which i refused as it was under guarntee i have the windows vista disk myself but i do not have a recovery disk,

when i go into bios setup my hard drive isnt there how can i get it back or re intsall or re format it an re install windos vista, please help its driving me crazy,
i have tryed re installign windows vista and it goes past the bit where it says windows is loading files then goes onto the load page as to go onto the homepage but wont go past there any ideas? Thanks
also when i go into bios how do i do a hdd test run as i cant find my hdd anyway

but apparently the hard drive just apprently wiped itself clean

A:No operating system found please help

If youre BIOS is not recognizing you're HDD you might want to open you're computer up and check if its connected right and if it is working at all. And you obviously not going to be able to install OS if there is nothing for it to install on. If the HDD is not working, you can easily buy a new one they are pretty cheap you can get one under 50 bucks, just make sure it is compatible with you're system.

Is the Operating System (OS) of your Laptop installed on the internal storage device of your Laptop?
Does your OS start succesfully when the USB is connected and does your OS start succesfully when the USB is not connected?

Hi everybody,

I have a 2009 Dell Studio 1737. 3 years ago I had the hard drive replaced at Best Buy. Now it went out again so I bought one and replaced it myself (under setup it shows the hard drive is there so I think I did it right). But then when I went to boot the computer I get an error that says Operating System not found? I cant find the original disks for the computer...Any ideas what I can do to get it to work?

A:Operating System Not Found

Did you replace the system drive (the one with your Windows OS)? If your PC has only one HDD, then it is certainly what you did. In that case you will need either to reinstall Windows on new HDD, or use some sort of imaging software to clone old drive to new one.

I woke up this morning to find OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND with a black screen.

It also made sounds like the the disk drive was kicking in.

I restarted my laptop and it started and fingers crossed it's still working and i'm doing a virus check as i type.

What should i do? Does it sound like an OS problem or virus?

Hi, my Acer Aspire One was upgraded to Windows 10. Eventually, I ran into some issues with the start menu not popping up, so I decided to run a clean reset of Windows 10. The reset failed, so I turned off the notebook. When I turned it back on, the message "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart," popped up. My first option was to try to use either f2 or f12 to see if there was some way to get around the issue, but then I remembered that, recently, my notebook had stopped responding to those commands. I do have a USB Logitech K120 keyboard hooked up to it (since the original keyboard messed up,) but it had been working fine for those commands and such up until now.

Today, I downloaded Win 10 using the Media Creation Tool in an attempt to create a bootable USB drive. I plugged that in, yet it doesn't seem to recognize it at all. The same message pops up as before. My acer doesn't have a CD-ROM or anything of the sort, so the USB appears to be my only hope. Is there anything that I can do? I'm hoping there's a way I can force the notebook to recognize the USB, or at least boot into the f2 or f12 commands to see if I can use them in any way. Thank you.

Any chance the original keyboard F12 key works?

i need some help. i have a computer and the harddrive is bad. so i tryed booting it up with a window xp disk and i reinstalled XP. but when i turned it on aging no operating system found. and now it wount even load up to anthing and just goes to no operating system found. any ideas

A:no operating system found

Try going to the website for the manufacture of that drive. All of them have some software that you can download and run tests on your drive. A lot of them have ones that will run in windows now but you want the DOS based ones that will make you a boot disk.

Once you boot up there you can run all sorts of tests on the drive. Sometimes you just have to do a full format witn one of those utilities to fix the drive, but if there is a major problem that software will also get you a error number which if your drive is still under warranty you can use to RMA it.
