Q: new xps13 unable to register for warranty because service tag not found + unable to reach customer service

I purchased a new xps13 from dell over two weeks ago. Currently the laptop is working fine, however, I've tried tried to register the laptop under 'my products' multiple times since receiving the laptop. Whenever I try to enter the service tag, it keeps giving me an error "Products not found. There’s no match for the Service Tags that were entered." At first I thought maybe it was because the laptop was new, but it has been 2 weeks now and I'm still getting the same message.
Not only that, but I've been trying to contact dell through email for 2 weeks now and I always get the same "you will get a response in 24hour" reply but nobody ever replies. I feel like the biggest moron right now because I paid for 3 years of 'premium support' and you won't even answer a freaking email. I'm pretty close to just returning this laptop and buying a piece of *** macbook because at least apple responds to support requests.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

Yahoo Mail-blocking has upgraded again, and as usual they won't let me access my mail because my browser isn't named Firefox. Somehow or other I managed to complain in the past, and they fixed their system to recognize other browsers that use the Gecko HTML engine. You would think after several upgrade cycles and getting the same complaint each time they would remember that there are browsers other than IE and Firefox. So now I have to get their attention again. But I didn't save the link that I found before, and I suppose it wouldn't be valid anymore anyway. I need to find some way to get a message into the site administration system and the non-help pages just send you running around in circles.

Hi, I purchased an Inspiron 1543 on Oct 27, 2015 from an authorized dell store at GIP Mall Noida and since then I have been strutggling with Dell Warranty team to update the warranty status under dell festive offers. They have updated only NBD warranty date to Oct 2018 sine I have purchased two years extended warranty, but all the other warranty dates are yet to be updated and they are not even replying my emails. The worst customer service I have ever seen. I will never recommend anytone to buy a dell product. I have provided everything they reqested already. My service tag #<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>. My contact # are<ADMIN NOTE: Phone number removed per privacy policy>. Can anyone help? And specially Dell should not sell it's product through cheaters like Skope computers(A dell authorized showroom, GIM Mall, Noida.) They are thieves and cheaters and not have manners.

Hello. You have posted on the Laptop Audio discussion board. I suggest that you post on the Customer Care board. Do not include your service tag and contact numbers, because those will be removed as per forum policy. If someone from Dell replies to your post, they will ask you to send them that information via the forum's private message feature.

My computer started showing signs of a defective WiFi problem about a week before my warranty was up. After contacting Lenovo and trying to troubleshoot the problem with no luck, the man on the phone said I was fine to send it in, as there is a ?30 day grace period? on warranty repairs. It took me at least 20 days just to receive the box sent out by Lenovo to send in my computer for repair. During this time I posted on the forum and called Lenovo for help. One man I spoke to said it was because they just needed approval for the warranty ticket, and they sent the box out once approved. They forgot to do it. Twice. I got the box and sent it in. The next form of contact I received was an email with ?billable charges? of almost $700 for what I was previously told was a cheap fix anyway (these charges are about the same the cost of a refurbished version of this computer). No explanation for what the bill was even charging me for. When I called customer service again, I was told that the parts were, in fact, defective,  but that my warranty has expired. After I calmly and respectfully explained the situation, he put me on hold for a few minutes and came back to respond with ?mam, these are billable charges and there?s nothing I can do about that?. I have a Yoga 900 with a three year international in home warranty. My motherboard stopped working about a month ago and the computer does not start any longer. I have been told that I would get a new one, but that apparently takes forever. I am an entrepreneur and this computer is my office and I have been without access to it for almost a month now with no news coming from that guy from the Colombian call center (I am currently in Mexico) that has been telling me for two weeks that it would be dispatched any day now. He only responds sporadically, too, so I have no idea if and when this is going to be fixed. There are no customer support Hotlines anymore unless I am mistaken so not sure what to do to get this resolved. I saw that several people have similar issues but could not find a solution for it. By now it would have caused less damage to just buy a new computer instead of losing productivity while waiting for Lenovo to comply with their obligations... I am not getting any results with customer service so I figured I would post here. I have a yoga notebook which I purchased with a 3 year on site warranty. In January I contacted customer service with a problem with my screen as wellas keyboard requesting service ( I am entitled to next day on site service) After discussing the problem the rep said it would probably make more sense to ship noteboo in, since they may not have parts on hand. I am so frustrated with HP's "customer service". I will never buy an HP product again, because of their  horrendous customer service and the fact that HP either doesn't honor their warranties or they make it exceedingly difficult to do so. I have an HP chromebook Pavilion 14-c015dx that has a malfunctioning touchpad and no one from HP is helping me. (Intermittently, my touchpad won't work. The cursor/pointer starts to shake/vibrate making it almost impossible to click on what's intended and the scroll function freezes up. Also, a powerwash has not fixed the problem.) I started calling a couple of weeks ago, while still under the one year warranty. HP told me my chromebook was out of warranty. It was not. Many had similar issues if you check forum. So, my laptop did not start someday. I sent it for repair and I was told to pay 500? because some liquid was dropped. I am 100% sure that no liquid was dropped. I treated my laptop like gold. It cost me 2000?...I didn't even let a dust get near it. It almost feels like they sets this up for me to pay that money.The problem with my laptop is a problem that many lenovo 910 user had. So, the customer service is very bad. I didn't get a single answer.  I was one of lenovo's biggest fan. I was recommending lenovo to everyone. For lenovo campaigny to do this... It's really dissapointing.

I've recently purchased an X1E2, and along with it, warranty upgrades. Now, I've received an email saying that `In order to activate the purchased service, you must register within 30 days of your purchase date. Services that are not registered cannot be fulfilled.`, but the registration page requires a serial number in order to register anything, since my product is very likely to arrive in over a month, I fear I'll be unable to use the warranty upgrades at all before they expire. What can I do? I've avoided contacting support using MTSA because the associated documents clearly outlines that it requires a serial number (which I don't have) to check the associated warranty.

The user profile service error is common, IMO, while the server endpoint error seems related to networking.

Well I got a big problem.

A couple days ago I noticed network connectivity issues. Random connection drops, overall bad connection, etc. I recently had some really bad malware and I removed it, so I suspected leftover malware from the start. I went to check Windows Update to see if I missed a security update, and it wasn't even on my computer. Something removed the service completely off my computer, so I found a .reg to fix it. I then started Windows Update and found that I had 30 updates missing and updated all of them successfully.

I then decided to see what was going on with my Windows Firewall, only to find that it was also removed. Wasn't in my services or anything. So I downloaded the .reg to fix that, tried to activate the service, only to run into another roadblock that I still haven't been able to fix, an error stating

"The Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service on local computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs".

Ok. So I checked my services again and I believe that some more were completely missing(Base Filtering Engine, NSI proxy Service). So to try and remedy this, I attempted an sfc /scannow in elevated cmd prompt.

Then another brick wall. I get to 59% and then I get this message

"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation".

Trustedinstaller service is turned on, so I have no idea why I'm getting this message. But... Read more

! I purchased a Dell 5759 just a few months ago from Amazon. Since its purchase, the battery randomly cuts out at intervals of every few to several days with no triggering events.  I attempted to seek help a few times but apparently my service tag and express service code cannot be recognized by the system.  I've tried calling the Inpsiron help number, but for better or worse, the call is disconnected when my numbers cannot be recognized.
Now I get a Dell Power Management error that the system can no longer communicate with my battery.  It has ceased functioning en toto.  Without being able to register, I cannot get help for this issue, but when I go to email any kind of technical support, the Service Tag or Service Code are the gateway to having access to submitting a ticket.
I'm not sure what else to do at this point. This is a perfectly fine otherwise smooth running computer but I need the battery to work and not cut out at random intervals.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have a lenovo yoga 710 that has a screen flickering problem (just like everyone else on the forums with a yoga 710 because you seem really good at making faulty products) which i sent in for repair in october, it started in april but i never bothered to send it in until the flickering would turn from just flickering to the screen being completely black.I got the laptop back with the screen not replaced or anything (and with the spacebar not working) but the flickering stopped and that was okay by me. just a week afterwards the flickering starts again but i was due for a trip to egypt and had no time to bother with your customer support specially because i needed my laptop and wasn't going to wait 3 weeks without it again.after i was back from the trip a couple of weeks latter i called in to arrange another fix and complain that my screen is flickering again and i'm told that it's been too long since my first repair and that it's out of warranty so there's nothing they can do, so i chose to live with it..it's been a couple of months since then where i hardly use my laptop because of the fact that it hurts my eyes whenever i do, then a couple of weeks ago my screen completely stops working again, with ocassional flickering and a second of working properly. Lenovo, you really let down a loyal Thinkpad customer with 10+ Notebooks since 2005. My T460s with 3 Year On-Site warran has a problem and switches off abruptly when battery 2 elapses instead of switching to battery 1.  I call my local Lenovo Service Partner, they arrange to come and fix the issue. Visit #1: You change the motherboard, it does not fix the problem but creates a new problem: no sound Visit #2: You install a myriad drivers on my system, still no sound, still switches off abruptly  Visit #3: You change motherboard again, fixes sound issue, creates a new issue: screen flickering, the initial issue of power off on switch from battery 2 -> 1 is still not fixed. So I started with a T460s power issue and I have lost 3 business days, my work is being destroyed and what I have now is a T460s with a power issue and a flickering screen. I cannot work and you do not help, you have just destroyed a loyal (circa 2005) customer. What will you do now? Your service partner offered to come and change another motherboard, do you think I have nothing better to do than surrender my life's work in form of my laptop to you to try to install a myriad different motherboards on?

I've made complaint written as per below email to [email protected] but I still did not get any reply from anyone from lenovo after the complaints I've made to service center through either phone or email. The email as follows:" Dear Sir, Referring to the matter above, I would like to make a complaint on the poor service provided by the service center. It has been 3 weeks since I sent my laptop for warranty claim and they have not replace the cable. I'm frustrated I've been told to wait everytime and not given a date of completion.  On 19/07/14, I sent a laptop to Lenovo authorized service center at Low Yat Plaza for warranty claim. The problem description and details is as per slip attached. On the first week, I called and the service center notified me that they identified the problem and already have the cable for replacement. They will have the technicians to fix it and let me know through sms once done.  The next week I called on Wednesday, and they said they still have not fix it. Telling me the same story again....will get the technicians to fix it and ask me to wait for the sms. On Saturday, I personally made a visit to the service center to check on the status and they still tell me the same story again. The third week I called and yet again they tell me the same story. I have been a Dell user for many decades.  For decades, I have bought Dell computers and even Dell cash registers.  Tech support has always been a problem, but the machines haven't fairly maintenance free. So I haven't needed to use tech support much. 
A week ago I ordered a new XPS as my current one is 5 years old and has a few problems.  So I went to the Dell website, opened my longstanding account and ordered a new XPS loaded with options.  I received an email giving me my purchase ID, and I thought I was good.  But my purchase never generated an order number.  
A few days later, I checked the order status only to find no order number.  So I inquired using the Purchase ID number and received a message that my order had problems and instructed me to call a number.  So I did. 
After waiting on hold for a long time someone answered.  I gave her all my particulars and explained the problem.  She then transferred me to another person and I again explained all my particulars and the problem once again.  He then told me I needed to talk to someone else and promptly transferred me back to the answering machine.  So after repeating all the routing questions again, and again waiting for a person to answer,  a person finally answered, and I gave all my particulars and explained my problem again.  That person again explained Dell's processes and transferred me to someone else in "Order Ful... With a fix like this it is always best to start with a System Restore point. Neither of us know the true effect that the update will have.

FIX: You receive an "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" error message when you stop or pause a managed Windows service

I have tried to access the Windows Update website, but have been unable to. I checked the WinUpdate folder in Program Files and noticed that there were no files in that folder. So when I went back to the Update site, it gave me the option of reinstalling the files, but it wasn't able to install. I tried changing security settings to allow the site to be able to install, but no such luck.

Has anyone else had a similar problem and can provide a solution? Thanks very much in advance!

Hi guys,
I had a problem with my PC with WinXP SP2 installed. The problem was that many services were crashing over time. Also in the taskmanager, in the processes tab the sercives which were running, did not have any name under the User Name except for the System Idle Process which had System uder User Name.

So, I repaired the installation using my WinXP SP2 CD. Now the services are working fine. But when ever I try to start Fast User Switching Compatibility & Themes services, I get the following error (see screen shot) and am unable to start the service (even after several reboots)

Hey, I'm currently on windows xp service pack 1.a and when ever I try to upgrade to SP2 or 3 the installation will fail for some reason. I've already had to reinstall XP once because one of the failed installs corrupted other files.

I'm really at a loss. Is there a way to update to a different service pack or should I just stick with what I got?

at the minimum u should have at least sp2. i dont know why u r having problems.do u have both windows update and microsoft update in your computer?hit your start then programs then look at the top and see if they are both listed.if not go to windows update and it will have a feature to get microsoft updates.hit the go button and it will prompt u through it.hope this helps u.

Im using VAMT and am getting the error on ONE new computer (of 15 that Ive already completed)- error unable to connect to the wmi service.
I go to "discover new products" enter the computer name and I get the error. However; if I type in the IP address it adds it and Im able to activate it no problem. That way is ok with me, but I would like to then be able to rename the entry to the computer name rather than the IP address. Is this possible?

Hi everyone! I have been working on issues with my computer for the last five days and I've got the majority at least identified. However, I have identified one process that I'd like to stop as I have been told it seriously interferes with other programs. The process is the NMI INDEXING SERVICE from the Nero 7 Premium program. It is used to index media on the computer and it is definitely not needed.

I have tried to remove it through msconfig and couldn't find it in regedit or by searching for it. I went to the Nero website and wasn't able to find any help there.

What do you suggest? I'm at the end of the road with this one!

I am trying to get a friends computer back to normal after a bit of a major problem.

I have managed to repair the OS (XP Home) but am still experiencing one or two problems. The main one at the moment is that though it has downloaded and successfully installed 33 MS Critical Updates it is not able to install Service Pack 2.

It gets about half way through installing SP2 and then brings up an "Access Denied" Error.

I have pursued this problem as deeply as I can and suspect it due to the fact that the "Security Center" is not running (the "start up type" is set at Automatic), I have tried to start it (manually) using mmc/services.msc/security center/start but this brings up a "Could not start the Security Center service on local computer - Error 127 : The specified procedure could not be found".

I'm having a problem with the Windows Update and have reached the frustrating conclusion that the SP1 update just doesn't want to install on my desktop.

I continuously get the "code 80070005" error every time SP1 tries to install. I've looked at and run just about every "fix" suggested on this and other forums, but nothing has solved the problem.

Should I just ignore the SP1 update and install the other security updates as they become available?

I created a new Windows Service using C#. And Created a windows application to CREATE SERVICE, START SERVICE, STOP SERVICE and DELETE the SERVICE. This application is working fine when the UAC is turned OFF. When the UAC is
turned ON then none of the above operations are working.

1. Can i create a Service without Admin Rights, for creating am using the following

Hi guys, I been trying to install Windows live essentials for a couple of months now but everytime I try, it tells me to install service pack 2. I understand there is a procedure for it to find it on Windows Updates but it has not worked for me because I could not find it in live updates and also under hidden updates nothing is there. When I download it manually and then install it i get a problem.

First problem:
After running the program and trying to install it, that window pops up. I followed the directions clearly which led me to Install the readiness tool.

After installing it required me to install that update on the picture but here is my next problem.

The download stays for hours and hours without any progress, I even left it overnight once but still there was no progress. I am stuck there and I would really appreciate it if you guys can help me out.

Download details: Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 - Five Language Standalone (KB948465)

Next do not try and download the hotfix until you have sp2 already installed, then let it come through microsofts updates...

Hey guys I've got a problem intalling Service Pack 3. I'm on an old desktop system, and after downloading Service Pack 3 and getting ready to install it, this error message appears "This Service Pack requires the machine to be on AC Power before setup starts", and it aborts the installation process. I am trying to figure out why I am getting this error because I'm not on a laptop, and I am plugged in to an outlet. Truly baffling to me. Has anyone run into this problem before, or are there any solutions you might have? I could really use some help on this one. Thanks.

Where did you download the SP3 upgrade from?


Download the full 316 MB file from here and save it. (You should also burn it off to a CD-R for future use).

Make sure that all running antivirus and antispyware programs are turned off.

Make sure that any screensaver that will kick in is turned off.

Go into Power Options in the Control Panel and set the power scheme to "Always On" and set everything else to "Never".

Now try installing it.


The SP3 upgrade isn't mandatory at this time. If you've got SP2 installed and have kept up-to-date with all the post-SP2 critical updates, you're fine.

i have installed sql2k program to c: drive and database to f: drive. however, after changing the drive letter from f: to g: i am not able to start sql server service anymore. It seems like sql2k is looking for f: drive.
pls help.

Set the drive letter back as it was, move the database to a safe drive, then change the drive letter and move it to there after. Or install another instance.

I've been unable to update Windows XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2 to Service Pack 3. I've tried multiple times without success. I've tried to upgrade to SP3 at least three times in recent days but keep getting an "access denied" icon after the update has been running for several minutes.

I have visited Microsoft's website and went through the instructions for installing SP3 and instructions for troubleshooting. I've tried to update by doing it online as well as downloading the file and running it. There is only one user account on the PC and I checked to verify that I am signed in with administrator rights. I've disabled AV software when trying to update.

My XP MCE is the 32-bit version. I'd be grateful if someone is able to assist. Thanks in advance.
