Adjust volume in Media Player Classic

Q: Adjust volume in Media Player Classic

Hi everybody,

My problem is that I cannot adjust the volume of video clips 'normally' when using Media Player Classic. Whenever I use this program, it does not allow me to increase/decrease the volume on my default volume scale, instead, it uses a built-in volume scale and therefore forces me to use that stupid scale.

How can I disable this annoying feature of Media Player Classic so that I can adjust the volume as normally as when I use other programs.

Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Adjust volume in Media Player Classic

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How do you adjust the brightness in media player classic?
I tried googling it first,
And I was told something about it being easier to adjust brightness if the file is an MPEG file.
Or something about only being able to adjust the brightness if you have an nVidia video card.
But what if the file is an AVI, or MKV file and you don't have nVidia?
One website said:
View > Options > Miscellaneous > And there's your brightness slider.
Well my slider is there, but it's stuck at "0" and I can't adjust it any higher.

I installed MPC with Combined Community Codec Pack,
and so ffdshow is decrypting or decoding or whater you wanna call it.
Here is the options when i right click on ffdshow video decoder:

Hi everyone,

I noticed the volume of my music was not as loud as it was in the past when playing CD's or MP3 files with Windows Media Player 10. I had the volume turned all the way up in Media player and also in Realtek HD Audio Manager, but the sound was just not anywhere near as loud as it was before. I recently un-installed "Discover stream hub / Discover.exe" and thought that this might have had something to do with it, but that does not seem to be the case.

I decided to try to play an mp3 file with Realplayer and found that with the volume turned up in realplayer, the mp3 files sounded normal again, plenty of volume.

What surprised me is that if I close Realplayer with it's volume control turned up, then open the MP3 with Medial player, it will sound normal in media player, (plenty of volume). If I turn the volume control in Real player all the way down, close it, then play a file with Media Player, there will be no sound at all.

Somehow, the volume control for Realplayer is effecting and overriding the volume control for Media Player. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how this might be happening ? Has anyone else ever experienced this type of thing ?

It's not a big deal now that I found out what was going on, but tracking down problems like this can drive you nuts. It seems crazy that the volume control from one program would control the other, I'm just wondering what might be going on. I'm using Windows XP Media Center Ed... Read more

A:Real Player volume control also controls Media Player Volume ?

Hi John

The reason that this happens is that when you change the volume in real player, it changes the 'Wave' volume for the whole system. I don't pretend to know too much about this but basically, real player changes part of the system volume which also affects the volume in media player. To see this for yourself, open Real Player and then go into Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices under control panel. Click on Advanced Volume Controls under the 'See Also' heading on the left. There should be a column labelled 'Wave'. If you now change the volume in Real Player, you will see this changing also. As a result, it changes the volume system wide. Hope this solves your confusion.

Hi, just got a weird thing to occur with my MPC. I have some .avi files that played perfect. I downloaded a couple more .avi files and suddenly Media Player Classic will not play them. I get a "Can Not Render File" message when I try.

VLC will not play them.
WPM will not play them.
Nor Quicktime, Zoom Player, Nero, Adobe, or anything else I try.

<-- that's me trying to figure it out.

I have downloaded and reinstalled MPC again, VLC again, upgraded WMP to the latest version and codec packs out of the whazoo. Nothing works so far.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for the replies.

Sounds like a corrupted .avi file.

This is a version of WMP that tries to go back to 6.4, arguably the best one out there. The only problem is that it doesn't play any type of video well on my computer.
Now, this seems like a real gem with the accessibility, but I have the actual WMP 6.4 exe. Should I uninstall this and go back to the original, or is this something fixable?

The only way I could see this working, is if you open media player classic, and set it as the default media player. That way it will run all media files that it supports automatically.

sometimes torrents come down with separate audio files ....so you may have moved just the video....

go to your torrent app & ''open file location'' of the vid in question this will show you what you moved
the original download should still be seeding ....see if you can play it directly from there

i would of said you need a codec but if you could preview them that's not the case i don't think

im going to assume these are legal torrents ..??
as piracy is NOT accepted here in any form

Greetings!
My first post...
Initially I could not start anything on my "DVD Super Multi drive" - HL-DT-ST DVDR GH41NAM. I did some online research and downloaded some sort of codec. Now, at least, the drive opens when I click on its icon in NBVCXZ (Gateway name for "My Computer").
This morning I saw a new icon on my desktop - Media Player Classic. I inserted a DVD that I played yesterday on a standard DVD player. MPC opened as soon as I clicked play. I saw the opening/title still frame, tried both "Play" buttons (there was another one in MPC toolbar but the entire toolbar was grey. After playing more with the MPC I found no mention of Win7, just XP and Vista. So I downloaded the latest version of MPC, 1.5.1.2903 (the one I discovered this morning is 1.4.2499.0). To my surprise, both icon peacefully co-exist on the desktop, and can be opened independently. The only difference I noticed: the original one says "64-bit Edition" on its interface (although the new one installed in the same folder: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Essentials Codec Pack\MPC\mpc-hc.exe", just one is marked mpc-hc and the other one mpc-hc64.
I could not play music CD, as Real Player is my default audio player and I could not change it to MPC as it is not listed in "Change" window (which does not bother me much as Real Player is good enough).
Do I need to install something else to bring MPC to life (whatever version)?

A:media player classic

It appears you downloaded "Essentials" Codec pack, which happened to include MPC.

MPC is primarily a video player. What happens when you attempt to play an avi file or an mpeg file or a wmv file?

You should not have to download anything else if you want to use MPC. You may have to change file associations.

Real Player is difficult to deal with and likes to remain the audio player, which seems to be OK with you.

1. Is there a help file for MPC 6.4.9.0 available?
2. The really big question is how to increase the image size of images saved in MPC? To this point they only save to very small size files Any ideas?

Cheers!

A:Media Player Classic

By default, images (screenshots) saved in MPC are the size of the original video. Opening the image in an image editor and resampling would achieve the same (maybe better) quality image than the a full screen capture.

However, If you still want to do so, you can capture full screen by disabling overlays; by choosing a different output renderer - VRM 9 Renderless would be a good choice (see screenshot).

Having a couple of problems with Media Player Classic.

1). Videos are playing upside down, Now I read the thread on this http://www.techsupportforum.com/f10/...es-158489.html, but except for a couple of posts the thread got highjacked into discussing downloaded movies and where to get them???? First these videos all play right side up in GOM, Windows Media Player 11, Nero Showtime etc.. or any other I've used And it doesn't matter which type of video format, mpg, avi, flv, they all play upside down. I do have ffdshow and all codecs and everything else.

2) the only format that plays right is wmv, but that crashes within 2 or 3 seconds after, giving me a message. So this is my other problem with MPC, why do wmv files crash and burn.

I only want to use MPC to get thumbnailed imagecaps from the videos I have. I always use GOM to play videos and WMP 11 for wmv files.

When I first got my laptop, I downloaded and installed K-Lite Codec Pack (or rather my uncle did it on my behalf), as Windows Vista Home Basic does not ship with DVD codecs. The codec pack worked fine.

I have, however, gathered (some) wisdom since then, and believe that if I uninstall K-Lite and install Media Player Classic instead I would still be able to play DVDs, MP4s, etc. Is this correct? The reason I ask is because I am trying to save some space on my hard drive.

To the best of my knowledge, I don't use any of K-Lite's other features, so please could you advise me whether to replace it with Media Player classic.

Thanks.

A:[SOLVED] Media Player Classic

Media Player Classic doesn't have a full set of embedded codecs (unlike VLC player which has its own set of codecs) and so may not play all videos if K-Lite is removed. The full pack of K-Lite codecs (which includes Media Player Classic) is only 37MB or so.
If this is a problem space-wise then your other alternative is to ditch the codec pack, download GSpot from link in my signature (check first to see if it came with your K-Lite codec pack - C drive > Program files > K-Lite codec pack > Tools) and if you come a cross a video that Media Classic can't play, open it in GSpot to find out the codec needed and download that codec.
Or download the VLC player which does have a set of embedded codecs.

Hmmm three things

1. Turn the application player to the max, turn the other settings down and tune your soundcard in the center somewhere.

2. Check your soundcard settings and make sure it didn't somhow default a bar down. Start>Control Panel>Sounds>Click Advanced Tab>check all the levels.

3. Try to download or install a different app to play your DVD's, I forgot what I used to use because I don't watch DVD's on my PC anymore but it beat what I used that was bundled with my PC.

A lot of times sound is a fight in and of itself with apps on computers, unlike powered receivers they play at lower or higher levels based on the mastering of what was put in. What I like to do is have my have my sound setting in my toolbar in the quicklaunch as well as having the icon on startup to control the master level.

In 2007, development of MPC was abandoned. May be thats what Secunia is telling you, that you wont get any updates of this product. Which means that if there are any security flaws found n product in future you wont have updates. So start using a product which is still being developed or supported. Although there are no known security problems with MPC.Open source community has started a new player, picking right after MPC. Its called Media Player Classic - Home Cinema. Latest version released was in August 2009. ( http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ )You can also try the open source VLC Media Player which does not require you to install any external codecs. As far as fixing your problem this might work?

Well, reinstallation usually means missing drivers. Have you checked Device Manager, to include the hidden drivers?

I've got the newest version of Windows Media Player 9 series on my XP Home edition. The video is very dark, even though my monitor Brightness is set to 100%. I know that when I have media actually playing, I can go to: View/Enhancements/Video Settings/ and set the Brightness to a higher setting, and this works fine. The only problem, is that when that media stops playing, the Brightness setting resets to the default, which is too dark. Besides being a hassle to set the Brightness where I want it every single time I use the Media Player, if I go to a web site that has a built-in Windows Media Player, there is no way for me to adjust that video, which is also always too dark. So I need to know how to adjust the Brightness setting on Windows Media Player so that it won't automatically reset to the default. Any ideas?

I had this problem for quiet a long time. I get into forums to find answer and solution for this problem, but nothing worked.
I solved this problem personally without installing and downloading codecs, like others said to be the solution. first open your windows media player and right click it. then go to tools, click options and go to DVD. click advanced this will directly go to codecs, at the right side theres a dvd decoding icon, if it has a check mark, remove it. and there you go the problem is solved for me. i dont know if it will solved yours.

because i am just new with this my forum is not so clean.

A:WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER CANNOT PLAY DVD. You might need to adjust you resolution

Thanks, but there are various solutions for WMP not being able to play DVD-videos. For starters, it depends on which version of Windows you have, as well as (to a lesser extent) the version of WMP being used.

For example, the version of WMP that ships with XP & Vista cannot play DVD-video until you install a third-party DVD player software. WMP then uses that third-party's software decoder by default.

The version of WMP that ships with Windows 7 has no such limitations. It can play DVD-video natively.

I listen to audio recordings of conference calls and edit transcriptions of them. When I had Windows XP and and an earlier version of Windows Media Player, I was able to use either a menu command or a keyboard command to increase or slow the speed of playback, and the player responded instantly to these commands. Now I have Vista and its new Windows Media Player 11, and there is a delay of 5-10 seconds between when I use the command and when the recording actually slows down or speeds up. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Alternatively, can anyone suggest another media player that would work better? I've tried Real Player and VLan, neither of which appears to have this control at all, and Goldwave, which has the controls I need in two different windows and doesn't work particularly well.

The GOM player (http://www.gomplayer.com/download.html) has audio speed controls. I don't know how well it compensates the pitch though.

Is the response time the same for WMP if you use the menu; Play>Play Speed>speed up/slow down method as well?

Hi, everyone..

I am new here and was hoping someone could help me, please.

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion notebook with the following specs:

Windows Vista Ultimate
Intel Core2 Duo processor T7500 @2.20 GHz
2046 MB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8600 graphics card

Recently, I tried playing a DVD in the pre-installed WMA 11 program (the remote on my DVD/VCR broke) Unfortunately, the image looks washed out with minimal color saturation. I found out where the video settings were and tried to change them. Much to my dismay, however, they wouldn't budge! They are set at 50% (right in the middle), but whenever I use my mouse to adjust the settings, they just jump back to the middle.

Any clue on how I can fix this problem? I find it a bit odd and frustrating that the media player has a mind of its own.

Thank you to anyone who can help me.

Sincerely,
Jo
