Installing Windows on Yoga 11e Chromebook?

Q: Installing Windows on Yoga 11e Chromebook?

Hi all, I bought Yoga 11e Chromebook for a high schooler in my family, and she was happy with it. A couple of weeks ago, in her science class she couldn't access some web resources - I bet they written as "Windows or Mac only" web resources. Now, I am thinking installing Windows on it, to make her school life easier - Because she is a student she can have a Windows license at no cost from government software centre for students. The machine is still under warranty and I would like to know: 1. Will Lenove be helpful to provide me all the information?2. Can I do this without warranty void?3. Is it possible to install WIndows on Yoga 11e Chromebook?4. Where can I find the installation procedure? Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

As long as you can enter development mode I beleive you can install Windows on it (assuming the hardware meets the requirements) http://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-install-windows-8-on-your-google-chromebook-pixel.350111/ While it is for the pixel, the instructions seem to be universal for chromebooks. I'm not sure about warranty voiding though.

A photo colleague dumped his Chromebook on my lap (gratis) with some [email protected]#$ comments ... I will not comment as to why, and I thought this could replace my clunky W540 for pre made portfolio/slide or video presentations. OK, here is the deal.  The Cloud storage is nice, but I'm off on the road with no WiFi, at a client's house. Last time I tested the Chrome Cloud, the presentation 'stuttered' and the flow was disconcerting, and was a discredit to my abilities. I have mutliple prsentations, and 16gb is not enough, particularly when visiting distinct client with different or multiple  portfolio requirements. Is there any way to change the 16gb standard card to a 64gb (There are now 200gb micro SD cards!): Sandisk 200GB SD - The future. I hate to fiddle with the built in SD port, not counting the potential loss of these tiny cards.  I would like it to be an  internal or at least sealed and protected from accidental 'pop-outs'. As the eMMC is actually built on the SD card protocol, can I open and replace the meager 16gb with a more modern larger storage for of WiFi use. Any hack or hints before I pass this unit off, would be appreciated.  Incredible 'oyster' closure system.  Even the Chrome Pixel has a lid finger catch groove.

I do have and use the "SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive":  Did not try it in Chromebook yet, as the Google Store does not seem to have the Chrome extension.  It does play well on my Adroids (Cell and Tablet). Sandisk Wireless Media drive. That may be a way to go if I can get it to work as just a raw drive using some workaround software controls.  I guess another workaround and something else to carry & lose.

Hi, Has anyone had any success using the N23 Yoga Chromebook and a USB serial adapter.  I have verified that my USB-A port is good but I have tried several different USB to Serial Adapters and none of them are being recognized.  Several hours of research today led me to a suggestion that requires modifing a file in the root filesystem "android.hardware.usb.host.xml" and I would rather not do that.   Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks,Kevin

Last week, I purchased a refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad 11e Yoga Chromebook.  When I received it, it was sealed in the original packaging with a sticker indicating that it had been refurbished at a Lenovo facility.  When I turned it on, I got stuck at the Enterprise Enrollment screen.  It seems that it was registered to the domain of the original owner and would not let anyone login without credentials for that domain.  The trackpad was also non-responsive, but I figured once I logged in, I could toggle the trackpad settings and get it working. There was a link to contact Google for help with this, so I followed those instructions.  Google said that they could not help me, and that I'd need to contact the original owner to have them de-register the device.  Since I had no connection to the original owner, I contacted the seller who apologized and told me that, since the device had a full warranty, Lenovo should be able to fix the issue. So, I contacted Lenovo for help on Sunday.  The Tech Support Agent that I spoke to first tried to tell me to return the device and get something that ran Windows since Chrome OS and Android are inferior(!).  Anyway, once I assured him that I did indeed want a Chromebook and knew all about Chrome OS, he told me that I could send it in for repair, and that all they'd need to do was wipe the system and re-install the OS with a consumer image instead of the enterprise image that was on the m... Earlier today, I had shut the lid on my Chromebook (putting it into standby mode) and had put it away. At this point it had full power. About half an hour later, I had opened it up again, but it had shut off, and I coudn't get it to turn on again until I plugged it in to auxilary power. When it revived, it still had full battery, but had forgotten the details of the network until I had signed in. This is similar to another issue, wherein the system will occasionally stop opening and running user-installed applications and block any access to local storage (such as viewing and downloading files), citing lack of permission (which does not apply otherwise), until restarting and logging in again. My device is fully up-to-date on the stable update stream. Why am I having these issues? Are there any ways to fix this permanently (aside from purchasing a different device)?

After reading many on-line forums, I decided to purchase a new battery.  After installation, the problem still persists: battery light remains orange, and battery % icon shows 1% (even after hours plugged in). Is there a need for a new charging cord?  Is there some voltage regulator on board not allowing batter to charge?

Hello all. Recently I've been attempting to install Windows 7 on this laptop, and I've followed several threads and tutorials to no avail. I have a fresh copy put on a USB stick configured to FAT32 as specified. I followed instructions to access the F12 Menu, and the boot Menu does not give me the option to boot from the stick. I read something else about "pressing the Novo button next to the power button", but this just pulls up a system recovery program. I understand that there are some functions which may be lost, and drivers that need to be installed afterward, from what I've read. I really miss the good old days when laptops came with a disk drive and an ethernet port, and booting from a device didn't require a PhD in rocket science. Any help would be appreciated. iI searched first on install problems with Netflix on Windows 10, but all the threads were old and I was told (suggested) to open a new thread.

I purchased a Lenovo Yoga 900 recently and have been enjoying it. Still getting to get over the hump learning Windows 10.
I have two Windows 7 machines which I am comfortable with, but still honestly, being a programmer, I still LOVED Windows XP.

When I try to install the Netflix APP ( got the latest from Windows App site ) , the first popup asks me for my Windows email account (I do not have one, I use Outlook2007,gmail,yahoo) But even so, there are no options on that pop up except to close. Then the Netflix app install windows says working ...... .... .... ... That goes on and on. I have left it like that over night and it still never does the install.

Is there any trick to installing the Netflix app on Windows 10? Right now the only way I can use Netflix is to bring up my browser and starting it that way

That was what I did..... install Netflix on line instead of Windows Store.

A:Install Windows 8 on a Chromebook

Hi there.

I Think the problem is that the CPU isn't INTEL / AMD so the only way might be to see if some sort of Virtual machine software runs on android and then try and load up a windows virtual machine. Judging by the low power of the CPU etc in a chromebook the performance is likely to be horrendously slow even if you could find some software for Virtualising Windows on an android platform.

If you could load some sort of "Normal" Linux distro on the chromebook which actually boots then you could install vmplayer - and hence a Windows guest OS. Even in this case the performance on the chromebook will be "Gacially slow".

If you want to delve into this sort of stuff you could also try messing around with an old program called QEMU but good luck to you --you are on your own on that one.

Cheers
jimbo

Hello, Just received this laptop yesterday and liking it so far. Trying to update as many drivers as possible which lenovo seems to make difficult with their own customs one. One of the drivers is the Intel HD Graphics one, which provides an error when i do a solution centre scan - forget this issue for a sec, apparently this is a false positive but is fixed by newer drivers. When I go to install the latest Intel VGA driver for my machine (updated 12/8/16), i get through the installation and then get an error message when it finishes up telling me the  "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the manufacturor" Of course when i go to install one direct from intel I also get this message. I'm not sure what to do from here? Why is the driver on the Lenovo website not recognised? The driver remains on an old version (now over a year old). Help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jack

Hi,

To give you some back story, I built my computer the end of August 2012. Ran Smoothly. I decided to get a 60 gig SSD to be the partition that stored Windows. I didnt have much stored on the Main HD so I deleted my original 2TB HD and tried installing on the SSD... found that the SSD was bad and sent it back. Decided just to stick with the 2TB HD. Had some issues installing windows back onto the HD as it would just hang up. Finally managed to get windows installed, had some "Not genuine" issues but that resolved after multiple restarts. That brings me to where I am at today and I feel as though the system has been getting worse. I would normally be fine with just a clean install but with all the issues I had with that initially I am very skeptical of trying it again. I have 5 important updates and 7 optional updates all of which do not install. The Installer just sits on Downloading updates and I have left it overnight with still no result. I am not sure if this is even my main issue but I am beyond the point of figuring it out myself so any help would be appreciated

I downloaded the System Readiness Tool and it Ran. I tried running the sfc /scannow in Admin cmd prompt mode and get a "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation" I attached my CBS file. Any help you could give or guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

You can run a chkdsk in Windows too > My Computer > right click on the drive > Properties > Tools > Check now - then follow the points in my pic.
You then reboot and it will start a chkdsk (in DOS).

Windows updates keeps installing/reinstalling the same update over and over again. I looked in my update history and it shows that they are installed successfully every time. What should I do and is this using space on my laptop by re-installing over and over again?

It is not using any space. Right-click the ones you already have and hide them so they don't come back.

EDIT: I just realized i posted this in the wrong category.. sorry :/

Hey.

I hope you guys can give me a hand now cause i'm all out of ideas!

I re-formated my sisters computer yesterday, and after installing it i had no internet. As i hadn't installed any drivers yet, i understood that. But after heading over to dell's site, downloading all of the drivers for her computer and then installing them, i STILL do not have any internet.

I don't see any connections on the computer either, it's just blank!

Here's a screenshot.

Her computer model:
Dell OptiPlex 170L.

And the drivers for her computer can be found right here.

I installed all Chipset, Video, Audio and Network drivers. Have i missed out on anything important?

Any ideas what's wrong here?

Thanks in advance,
-Nike

I have just ordered parts for a new PC.
Things I know that have drivers to install at some point:
OCZ Revodrive 3 (superfast ssd connected to a PCIe slot)
Asus P8Z68-V LX motherboard
Intel i5 2500K

I am sure that the ssd needs it's drivers installed when windows is being installed.

I'm not sure if the wireless mouse has drivers or not, its a Xenta. http://www.ebuyer.com/169281-xenta-wireless-optical-mouse-with-micro-2-4ghz-usb-dongle-fm-901-black

Thanks

I am a very frustrated and angry customer at the moment as i keep running into Road Block and unacceptable answers.  This issue is enough to cause me to never buy another Lenovo laptop or any laptop at Best Buy!I bought my computer in July and in September i noticed a key had popped off-  the "< ," key next to the M key.  I have used the key board only when i was setting up-  now at my office and at customers i set it in downward dog mode ;-) and use a blue tooth key board.    So it is not from use that it broke.   I took the laptop into BEST BUY and was told that the key was missing a metal part on the back so they could not fix it onsite-  i would have to send it in and be without my laptop for a week to 10 days - unacceptable -  this was a month or more ago. I searched on the LENOVO website and could not find a way to purchase a single or the entire set of Keys!  I am self employed as a software consultant.   My life is pretty busy and i finally decided today to bite the bullet and ask for a call from Lenovo support.  Again i am told the only way to fix this is to send my laptop in for a repair.  I asked to just be able to buy a KEY - i am told that well they do not sell individual keys - they would replace the entire keyboard!  So sell me the keyboard and or send me one an i will take into best buy to have them replace it while i wait.  They cannot do that.   I live...
