Virus in Router? Double underlined adds/Can't click buttons on Reddit

Q: Virus in Router? Double underlined adds/Can't click buttons on Reddit

Hi there Tech Support!

For a good month now I have been dealing with this nasty thing on my Computer which has actually spread to my girlfriends Macbook as well. Random Popups, underlined words that mostly link to mysearchdirectory.com, annoying popups on Steam and not being able to click 'next' on steam or upvote/downvote on reddit for example.

I have tried nearly anything. Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, Avira, Microsoft Essentials, Hitman Pro, Malwarebytes and so on. I have tried starting my Computer in safe mode but the underlined adds are still there. (they are mostly on Reddit)

- They will show up on Opera and Chrome and no extensions are responsible for them.
- I do not have any Software installed that can be associated with searchdirect etc. adware
- The steam popups are mostly about my Java version and want to direct me to update javascript etc.
- I followed instructions to get rid of Router virusses - download new firmware, reset, new pw, install firmware, new pw again - didn't help either. I am so out of ideas and do not know what to do...

Here are my problems:

I looked through Hijackthis but couldn't find anything suspicious but here is the log:

Preferred Solution: Virus in Router? Double underlined adds/Can't click buttons on Reddit

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My friend needs help. When he opens network connections, it's empty. When he resfreshes it, he gets this error: "The network connections folder was unable to retrieve the list of network adapters on your machine. Please make sure that the network connection service is enabled and running." He checked it and the network connections are enabled but he still can't use them. When he opens the user account in the control panel, it's blank.

When he goes to computer management, he cannot see the properties of any thing.

He is unable to drag and drop, copy and paste, double-click files and open them, and the only thing that you can see in the taskbar are the quick launch buttons. Program buttons appear above the taskbar only if u minimize them.

We've searched around for possible causes and some point it to the pseudo-Trojan FriendGreeting but my friend is pretty sure that he doesn't have the trojan since he never opened any email and he can't seem to find it in his computer.

Please help us!

Thanks

Hey,
I seem to be having some recurring problems with my laptop. I am frequently seeing double underlined words highlighted green which display an ad’ if I move the cursor over them. They appear even with ad block running. I also sometimes receive an ad’ display if I click a link, which appears in the form of a new window.  My system is also frequently crashing and I will receive one of two messages stating either:
“Page cannot be loaded” or
“Page Unresponsive”
I have never seen either of these pages prior to when the other faults stated occurring about three weeks ago. I am using Google chrome.

I use Chrome as a browser and every page I visit has blue double-underlined words.  When I move the mouse over them, little ads pop up.  I also have a video ad box that keeps popping up in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.  It has a countdown of about 9 seconds before I can close the box.  Often, when I click on a link on a page I get re-directed to a site that asks me to do a survey.  What is the best way I can stop all of this?  I have Windows 7 operating on my laptop.

Thanks in advance

Hello, I'm Shend23, my PC has been currently acting weird lately. Starting off, when I login to Steam, I see double blue underlined words. When I hover over them, it displays an add. When I click anywhere, I get a popup or a new tab opening for some ad or such. I've then been getting popups on Steam and in Google Chrome. My internet has been acting really slow when this started. When I type in something on google or etc, basically 99% of the time, it either shows webpage not available, takes an extreme amount of time, or: [Kanar] DNS Lookup for "insert whatever website I'm trying to go on here" No such host is known. I'm very frustrated and need help ASAP. Maybe this is very common, maybe not. Please help. Thanks.

Hi & to Bleeping Computer Forums! My name is Jürgen and I will be assisting you with your Malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully: Please read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.If you have any problems while you are follow my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem.Do not run any other scans without instruction or Add/ Remove Software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.Post all Logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 5 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean.Step 1Please run a FRST scan. This will help us diagnose your problem. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.(If you are not sure which version (32-/64-bit) applies to your system, download and try to start both of them as just the right one will run.)Start FRST with administator privileges.Make sure the option Addition.txt is checked and press the Scan button.... Hi there,

Hope someone can help me with an annoying issue I have.

System: Windows 7 x64

Since yesterday, sites I usually visit now have random key words double underlined in red font (today it is blue font).  When hovering over the link it brings up a message box and links to sites such as:

monstermarketplace.com - (the main link site)
enigmasoftware.com
coupondealpro.com
cutpricecarrentals.com

I did have Sophos anti-virus running on the computer, and this dud not pick up on anything.  I have done a few searches on the net and looked at similar monstermarketplace.com removal tips, and also Yontoo removal, but there were no signs of files etc related to these.

Thus in the process of trying to solve this I have run the following;

AdwCleaner
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
tdskiller
ComboFix
JRT

No joy with these.

I have removed Sophos off my machine at this stage.

Thus hope someone can assist me with this.

Updated information in this topic: About In-text advertising: In-Text Ads & How To Remove Them. This is called in-text advertising and it is very common. Kontera, Text Enhance and Vibrant are are some of the more popular advertising networks that provide in-text advertising and information services. The double-underlined word is actually a keyword embedded within text of a web page. The keyword is intended to provide consumers with information that is related to what they are reading. When hovering your mouse over this keyword, a pop up ad is displayed with a preview of the ad the text links to. This process works by allowing webmasters to insert JavaScript code into web pages that displays relevant advertisements from an inventory of advertisers. This script scans a web page and dynamically modifies keywords an advertiser has targeted on the page and double-underlines them. The words and the double-lines under them are usually blue in color but it is not uncommon for them to appear in various other colors such as red or green.In-text advertising is a form of contextual advertising commonly used to promote business and generate revenue to offset the cost of maintaining a web site each time a website visitor clicks on an in-text ad. Advertisements from in-text ads also help to generate targeted traffic to a website and improve their natural search engine ranking. Delivering ads to users based on their preferences. Hi.
I just noticed that some message board forums I visit now have text in posted topics featuring random words double underlined and when I scroll over the double underlined word a hyperlink and image for an ad appears. When I googled "double underlined words in chrome" instead of giving me results my browser asked "to continue please type the characters below," because apparently "systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. This page checks to see if it's really you sending the requests, and not a robot."

Firefox seems to be unaffected, only Google Chrome.

I ran a malwarebytes test and nothing showed up. Can anyone help me get rid of this adware/malware? If so, it would be very much appreciated, thanks.

It doesn't always do it, but it does it so often that it may close out 2 programs when I only meant to close 1 program. This also happened to my computer some years ago and I was able to make the double-clicking stop after doing some anti-virus scans, so I know that this is a virus and not a bad mouse. I just cannot remember what steps I took to get rid of it. Please help.

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. Please download Trend Micro - HijackThis. Hi,

I've used this forum once before and I got some excellent help. I was hoping I'd be able to get some help again. I think I may have a virus, although McAfee doesn't detect anything when I run a virus scan. The main problem is that everytime I click on something, whether it's a doc, folder, clicking on webpage, moving the curser to a desired loccation and clicking, it gives me a double click even when I've only clicked once. It's quite annoying and it used to happen randomly, but it's been happening more and more lately. I checked to see if it's the mouse set up, but the mouse is set up properly (i.e single click is set as a single click, not a double click.)

If someone could please help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

A:Double Click Problems (Possible Virus?)

Although this could possibly be from some sort of "twisted virus", the possibility of your mouse itself having problems is more likely.

Have you tried another mouse entirely?

Its really annoying and i was looking around google for answers, what I gathered was that HiJackThis could be of assistance. I of course do not understand any of the logfile, so if any of you could spot where the problem is I would appreciate it like crazy. Thanks

This was posted on the site about a year back, but a final solution was not given. I am facing the same problem now. Any solution?

I've had this stupid double-click virus/malware for the last couple weeks and I have no clue what to do to get rid of this thing.  I've ran malwarebytes three times and it won't leave.  It seemed to slow down for a day or two after running it the second time but it's not back in full force.  I need to get rid of this thing and I'm willing to do anything to do so but I'm clueless as to what to do.  Can someone please help me?

so i have been to an internet cyber cafe, its like a room in the street it has computers with internet and you pay according to the time u spent , i went there for the fast internet and the mouse on that computer always releases the clicks or even double clicks sometimes so i thought it was a hardware problem as the mouse could be busted, anyway when i brought back all the things i downloaded, they had viruses in them so i deleted them using avira anti virus, but now my mouse behaves exactly like the mouse at that cyber cafe so im pretty sure its not a hardware problem but some kind of malware or something, i thought avira could detect it all , anyway if anyone has had a similar experience and knows a fix please help
i just tried using the touch-pad i cliked and held the window and started moving it all around the screen and suddenly it got released while i was still holding the left click and ended up highlighting some text on the page which means it double clicked automatically, im very sure its some virus, please help or i might have to format the laptop , if u need any additional info just tell me how i can get it and i will

Don't know if that's the right name for the problem causer but it fits perfectly: I left-click once, I get a double-click behavior. Not always, but more often than not. And it's very, very annoying. And time consuming. And, apparently, not exactly easy to get rid of.I'm using Win XP Pro/SP2, with all the latest security updates and ESET Smart Security 3.0, also up-to-date. ESET detected nothing with a "thorough" scan, and I gave Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware a try, with the same results.I then stop, realizing this wasn't going to be a "one-click" solution (no pun intended) scenario. And, if I know my way around my PCs'n'XPs, I also know when I'm way in over my head.So here I am, asking (groveling if it comes to it) for help. What should I do to assist you in helping me?Thank you.

Hey Guys, although I normally have to double-click to open a file or folder, sometimes a single click opens files/folders/e-mail. It is very inconsistent, sometimes requiring two clicks as normal, but sometimes requiring only one click. Also, when I'm using a web browser and I hit the back/forward button, etc..., the rapid clicks take me many pages back/forward. It's as if my pointer is exceedingly sensitive. Mini advertisements also pop up as I scroll across certain highlighted words.Another symptom is that it when I try to capture text by holding down the mouse right-click button, it sometimes captures the text, but sometimes refuses to, or will capture only a a small part of the text. This occurs on web pages, but is even worse trying to capture text in this message I'm typing right now. After doing some research around the web, I've come to believe that the problem revolves around some type of advert cookie or worm that feeds you advertisements based off what you click...but you guys are the experts so I'll leave all that to you. Thanks in advance, very much...DDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Owner at 14:40:54.25 on Sat 01/09/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.11 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_15Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.2.1252.1.1033.18.1919.734 [GMT -5:00]AV: AVG Anti-Virus *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {17DDD097-36FF-435F-9E1B-52D74245D6BF}FW: McAfee Personal Firewall Plus *enabled* {94894B63-8C7F-4050-BDA4-813CA00DA3E8}... These are not playback issues, more like file I/O issues. However, MalwareBytes, Adware 2008 & AVG 8 have reported nothing.Concerning these files, I CANNOT:- drag, copy or move the file somewhere else... because the 'drop' is not allowed, ie: I can drag the file to winamp, but when I drop, nothing happens. When I right-click drag it and click 'copy', nothing happens.- double-click the file to open it in Winamp (which I know works, because I've already listened to these shows)- right-click and get a standard context-menu. Most items have disappeared, including 'Play', 'Properties', 'Cut', 'Copy',... although I can click ''Play in Windows Media Player' -- but this does nothing. In essence, I can't really do ANYTHING with these files.Does anyone know if MP3 files can become corrupted over time, even though I haven't changed them since I downloaded them?Attached below is my Hijack This v2.0.2 Report -- there is one entry with "no name" and "no file", which looks suspicious (?)- I also do not k... If anyone has used unix you are familiar with what i am asking for; just to double right click or middle click and to paste the content of clipboard to the given window.

Can anyone offer any ideas for .net?

I would use double right click, or middle click, or single right click.

Please respond with your ideas~

My symptoms are these:
right click hangs on all files but not folders for about 30-40 seconds then works fine for a few moments but once I click away or do anything else the problem comes back
using the keyboard to copy hangs and then once the computer "unfreezes" copy/paste with keyboard works fine
double clicking on a file that would launch a program hangs for a while then opens the program.
using the delete key hangs
Otherwise performance is normal everything runs fine while using all programs.

What I have tried so far:
Running Adaware and AVG to determine if spyware/malware installed
using shellview to disable processes - no results
cleaned temp files and defragmented drives
uninstalled hp easy button keyboard software

I have recently noticed some odd behavior in my computer, for some reason when I open My Computer and double click on a hard drive (I have 3) it will not open the drive. However I can still right-click and choose Explore to get around it.

At first I thought that this was a virus but after 3 scans with SpyBot I am still clean. Any ideas? It's not critical but I do find it odd.

A:[SOLVED] Baffled again, double-click does not open hard drives but right click will

What happens when you double click? Nothing, or Search opens, or a command prompt, or something else?

Can anyone please help me figure out the solution to this? My Dell 14R 5437's touchpad isn't properly working lately. It's right-click button and double-tap to right click function isn't working as intended; the left-click button and single-tap to left click function is working ok. When plugging an external mouse, however, I can right click as normal.
I tried reinstalling the driver from the Dell website and it's still not working properly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Correct. "Folder Options" refers to Windows Explorer. The "folders" within a program, like WLM, are under the control of the program. However I noticed that my version of WLM (2009) behaves the way you want without the "Reading" pane turned on. If I turn it on then a single click shows the email in the reading pane. If I turn it off, it takes a double click to open the email to view it. The reading pane is controlled via the "Layout" Viewing option.

Microsoft is set to begin the rollout of Windows 10 on July 29. As the final version of Windows, the Redmond-based company is moving away from big releases and will instead issue incremental updates to keep the OS up to speed.

I can always re-install Windows 7 or worse, Linux. Most of the time I install all updates, I don't recall one to date I haven't installed in fact so I don't see this as being an issue.

A:Solved: Single click makes double click

If it happens everytime, there is a setting in windows, but if it's only sometimes, it might be time for a new mouse.

Hello,

I came up to a problem that I cannot solve. Using the Explorer (not IE but the plain explorer to organize folders and files) I cannot change the behaviour of an Active Desktop like in WinXP or others.

I am very used to this procedure: single click = mark an object / doubleclick = execute an object.

Unfortunately, the Explorer just uses the option single click = execute. I remembered the option in XP/Vista, that you can go to Extras -> folder options -> Select Elements and tick a radio button for the Active Desktop method or the classic method (execute via doubleclick). Just as described in the tutorial "Single-Click or Double-Click to Open an Item" within this forum.

I tried this, and now I'm getting nuts: The radio button is already put on the classic mode (execute by doubleclick, select by single click). The other option is grey, i.e. it cannot be selected.

I guess, there's some tick wrong in the registry or else, but I cannot find out which. Does anyone has an idea what can be done?

A:folder options / single-click or double-click

The checkbox/radio button option is under the View tab in the same dialog.

Just a goofy phenomena that seems to be puzzling me. Each time I single click on a desktop icon, it acts like it was double clicked and opens the file/program. When single clicking on a scroll-bar to the right of a window, it acts like it was double clicked, traveling much further down the screen than expected.

I'm using Windows ME. My mouse is an IBM Scrollpoint II, 3-button mouse with a small scroll pivot-lever. Any assistance to solve this problem will be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Single mouse click acts like a double-click

Hi there Amaul,

One thing to check is go into the 'mouse properties' in the 'Control Panel' and under the 'Buttons' tab there will be an option for 'Files and Folders'. Make sure the 'double-click to open an item' is selected.

Hope this helps.

Many times when I single click on an item with my mouse, whether it be a program, a shortcut, or whatever, more often than not , it acts as a double click. When I double cliclk, it opens up the program twice more often than mot, also. I have the Folder options set up to double click so I don't know what's going on. I regularly run AdAdware, Spybot, and I have ZoneAlarm Suite running all the time.

Any ideas?
