Hi thereThe touchpad on 3 of our 11" Chromebooks (11-2203TU) has suddely stopped working this weekI have read every help sheet I can find on it and have restored the machines twice (tried powerwash as well)but have no luck.Mouse plugged in works. Tried adjusting the touchpad settings as well. Any ideas please. Thanks Dave

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

I have two HP ChromeBooks here, purchased in late '14, and recently both have had issues with their Trackpads, number one's Trackpad doesn't want to work at all, can only use the ChromeBook with a mouse connected. Number two's Trackpad works, yet it is difficult to click anything, it does click, if you hit it with the force of a hammer. Any suggestions welcome!

I have a HP Chromebook 14-q070nr running ChromeOS version 35.0.1916.155.My touchpad has suddenly stopped working for no reason whatsoever. I've to use a mouse to work on my Chromebook now. When I unplug the mouse it says, "No mouse or touchpad detected."A few days before this ChromeOS received the version update but the touchpad was working fine right after the update. Just got my new Acer Chromebook R11 today, and I've noticed that the touchpad only works when its in tablet mode, which is super counterproductive since I would only need to use it in laptop mode, which I can't. Also the screen can't rotate at all, no matter what I do.. Anyone know how to fix these two problems? edit: nevermind, it just suddenly started working

I have a Lenovo 100s Chromebook, and on my main user account the touchpad stops working and the mouse dissappears every few minutes. I have to do a force shutdown whenever this happens, and I tried a powerwash on my computer to delete all local files, but it still happened twice more after just a few minutes when I reopened my main google user account. I'm currently using the Guest Account and I have yet to encounter the problem. This problem appeared just a few days ago and has become more and more frequent, now reaching the point where I have to force shutdown and restart so often that I cannot work in my classes. I don't want to have to replace the computer, and I can't figure out a software or hardware solution to this issue. Thanks!

Is your chomebook still under warreny?  If ir is you can send it back to HP and they will send you a box to return the item.  If not I don't really know what to tell you.   You can try and manually rotate the keyboard and see if that will reset it otherwise you are SOOL  - sorry....

we recently had a similar case here which conveniently solved itself.  Are you able to test maybe one or two of the systems with an external keyboard to see if those letters and numbers are working and let us know please?

So it appears after doing some research that the 14"  HP Chromebook has a lot of issues with the keyboards not working. My daughters is a little over a year old and completely quit working today. I can't even power it off!  If this is a common issue why not own up to it and take care of this HP? I have a service plan through Walmart and they are sending me a package to mail it back in 5 days and then who know how long it will take to get it back from there. In the meantime my daughter will be so far behind in school and homework that she will likely never catch up this semester.  Ugh!  Extremely frustrating. My daughter is so upset and crying and she did nothing wrong!

I have had the HP chromebook for about 3 months and the numbers 6,7 letters m,n,u and sometimes random others do not work.  I cannot even log-in since my password contains one of the letters.  So frustrating and I do not think I am the only one.

I have had the notebook since Christmas but during the last 24 hours I began getting a faulty response on the y, u, h, j, n, and m keys.  Sometimes they would work on the first try, sometimes I would have to hold them down for several seconds before they would register.  Now they have all completely stopped working.  I looked on other forums but I cannot remove the battery from the laptop or do a hard restart since it operates on Chrome OS.   Is this just a cleaning problem or is there something possibly wrong with the technology inside? -Megan

Try booting into recovery mode to see if the keyboard works when the OS isn't yet loaded. If that works then maybe a quick power wash will clear it up.

I have two chromebooks here with certain keys not working. One of the chromebooks is a 14-x000na, and the other is 14-x006na. On the 14-x000na, the 6, y, h, n, 7, u, j and m keys are not working, and on the 14-x006na the 8, i, k and , keys aren't working. I have reset to factory settings, but this didn't do anything. Any help would be appreciated, as warranty has ran out so HP won't help me. Thanks.

My Chromebook 13 isn't working without the charger plugged in.  The battery is charging fine, and currently is sitting at 100%.  I did a battery test and it came back at 100% health, and discharged 0.00%.  Anyone know how to fix this.  If I unplug the charging cable it immediately turns off and wont turn on unless the cable is in.  Thanks

Hello! I purchased three refurbished C710-2833 Chromebooks from Groupon in September 2013. Just got to opening the third box since it was intended to be a backup of either of the other two if they failed. Well, one of the other two failed (human error; c'est la vie) and as 'luck' would have it, the third does not function as it should. 14 months later, I am clearly beyond the 90-day warranty period. The third device, when first attempting to log in to my Google account, wouldn't recognize some of the keys I pressed. I plugged in a USB keyboard to log in, and tested the onboard keyboard in a new Google Drive document. The keys that are broken are (or at least, seem) random. With that said, I have the following questions:Has anyone else experienced this same issue with (seemingly) random, broken keys? I'm fixing a Acer Chromebook 15 Monitor Screen. When I boot up..the background is very dark and I have to use my phone flashlight to see that its been fully booted up. So I thought it was the screen that needs replacement. So I just replaced the monitor screen and its giving me the same thing, very dark. Do you think its the connection that needs to be replaced. By the way I did a full reinstallation of the operating system, so everything is brand new on boot up. Any suggestions what needs to be done to get this fixed. Thanks in advanced.

I had a problem with my HP Chromebook's keys intermittently not working--the y, m, n, etc.  They would work, then not work, and it was very frustrating esp to log in b/c I could not get my password typed in. I thought I would need a new keyboard, but my wonderful ex husband thought we should try clean and reseat the keyboard connector to the motherboard.  The top panel assembly was removed (after removing the bottom case screws)..   ----see http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Chromebook-14-x000/7277301/model/7547744/product-info?lang=en... HE cleaned the keyboard connector with isopropyl alcohol, and re-connected that connector and it worked. This may not work for everyone, but try this b/f you buy a new keyboard.

Not really sure what genre this problem should be on. However i have recently purchased a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li2727 notebook. Working fine when i got it but i decided to use a usb mouse instead of touchpad now the touchpad has stopped working entirely even when usb mouse id plugged out. i really want to resolve the problem. i have already gone onto control panal, mouse but the touchpad does not come up as a device. Any help appriciated thanks.

Welcome to the forums.

Been a while since I had a laptop, but I seem to remember there being a setting on what to do with the touchpad when the mouse is plugged in. Unfortunately I don't remember where and have no way of finding it.

Have you tried rebooting with the mouse unplugged?

Sorry I can't be of more help. The manual for the laptop ought to have that info in it somewhere.

This Notebook was bought for me a few years ago and I stopped using it a while ago. I decided to clean it up and upgrade it a bit so I can use it for Work however it wouldn't let me reset to factory settings or do a reset because it lacked recovery files or something. So instead I installed Windows 7 on an SSD and tried to use that. Everything else works fine and I've installed all of the drivers again however the touchpad still doesn't work. It doesn't show up in Device Manager and whenever I go to mouse properties it says it can't connect to Synaptic Driver and that I should uninstall it and reinstall it after a restart. I've installed and uninstalled it numerous times and it still doesn't work. I've done hours of research to see if anybody has the same problem as I do and it doesn't seem quite as severe for anybody else since mine doesn't respond at all. I reconnected all of the wires inside properly so I'm fairly certain it isn't a hardware issue especially since everything else works just fine. TL;DR - Installed Windows 7 on the Notebook because I couldn't factory reset             - Touchpad doesn't work after installing many drivers many times.              - Likely not a hardware issue             - Doesn't show up in Device Manager              - Can't find the same issue online

My Alps touchpad quit working awhile back. I use a mouse, but I would still like to get it working again. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. When I try to install it the Install Wizard comes up for a second and then disappears. What's up with that? Any help appreciated.

It could be bad, how old is the laptop? You could get it fix, they would just replace the touchpad for you. Or just get a wireless mouse that uses USB instead.

so i have a problem with my touchpad. and i know you guys will probably say "check to see if it's disabled", but in this case it's different. when i boot up my laptop, right after the hp logo screen (and before windows even loads up), it says "F1 to continue or F10 for BIOS setup". and everytime, this screen pops up, the touchpad won't work. and if i press F10, the touch pad won't work in BIOS. basically, the touchpad idn't detected by the BIOS. in windows, there is no way to disable an enable the touchpad. there is no enable/disable option in device manager for the touchpad. there hasn't been any spills or breadcrums or...i think it is a hardware failure, but i am not sure. i think it is more of a "power not getting to the touchpad" failure. and btw, is there anyway to forcibly launch the synaptics touchpad program in windows? and this might seem strange, but the touchpad stopped working after i did this:1. Type troubleshooting in the search bar.2. Select Troubleshooting.3. Select View all on the top left corner.4. Click on Hardware and Devices.5. Im using HP Pavilion DV-6 1161 TX...I installed Windows 7 ultimate OEM the other day..The touchpad doesnt seem to work at all...Installed the synaptics drivers time and again...but nothing seems to work...Most of the times, the touchpad power light is always on and refuses to turn off...Im using an external mouse for the time being...If any1 could find a solution to this problem....it would be really helpful..Also the synaptics doesnt show up in the device manager...

Go to device manager (type it in on start menu search) and go to 'Mice and other pointing devices'. Double click on the 'PS2 Port Touchpad' (or something like that) and look at driver status. If there is anything interesting, please tell us.

I am note sure why installing the latest drivers doesn't help .

But the touchpad isnt working at all, when I go to settings, devises, Mouse and Touchpad there is no option for the touchpad. I have installed the Synaptics touchpad driver from online but it hasnt helped Any help would be great
