I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

if your using a usb modem that is powered by the usb port then likely the connection will drop due to poor quality modem
if your using ethernet port then it may be the email browser causing the session to drop check settings .

Iím pretty sure its nothing to do with a parental lock, and if it is, where do I go to change the settings? Im using xp
Ive worked out its nothing to do with the modem and wireless router.
what do i do? what can it be?

A:Internet cuts out after 10min but can still use msn

Well, if it's a parental lock, it's been put there for a reason by your parents. Therefore, you will not get any help from us to circumvent it.

However, if it's not a parental lock, please forgive me for suggesting it.

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.

Hi I have also been experinsing these problems. I am a video game player as well and whenever I try to play on my laptop my internet disconnects. But all my other devices that use wifi work fine. Also there is nothing wrong with my computer because it works fine on other networks such as my schools. I recently moved and am now using a different internet provider ,centerylink. I think I have to change my modem channel but centurylinks website were you change modem settings is a scam. The website does not work and my parents think theres something wrong with my computer and are refusing to change internet service providers. So I am wondering how If I can change modem channels a different way.

Hi, You might have another wifi signal very close to your house that is on 'your' channel, it happens.
You can only move your channel to one of three different frequencies, that is the lowest, the middle or the highest one. So say your current channel is 6, there is no point going to 7, it's still too close.
If the 'other' problem wifi channel near you is say '1' then you should try to go to the other end of the range.
You change your WiFi channel in your router, then your laptop will find it.
You don't need a website to do that, it's between your laptop and your router.
You make the changes through any web browser, and the details will probably be on the label of your router.
But this might not the problem, although it's a fairly easy one to 'fix' if it is.

I have a problem of being disconnected from the Internet. It usually occurs about the same time at night. I connect, then get kicked off after about a minute. This happens repeatedly. This continues for anywhere from a few minutes to an hour before I can stay connected again. I use IE browser. This does not happen during idle times. It happens when I am actively surfing. Any ideas on how to solve this? My ISP is no help.

Hey guys,

As soon as I connect my VPN it disconnects the internet. I'm using a desktop with windows 7, connected to wifi via a Netgear 4600 router. I have two internet connections, one of which is not connected to the router, both connections are affected. Used to work fine and I don't think I have done anything that would cause this. I already looked online and didn't find anything that was helpful.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

When I turn on the Internet (I have a modem), it works fine until I turn other programs on then the Internet basically turns off, but the computer says I'm still connected to the Internet. Why is this doing this and why is the Internet turning off?

If I'm downloading something off the Internet say a game demo or a game update the Internet would just turn off like I said before and then I would have to disconnect and then reconnect and try redownloading and sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't.

I found a pattern or it's just coincidence, but when the downloading box isn't the main thing selected for a while the Internet turns off. Someone please help and don't tell me to ask my ISP he's the other word for donkey.

hi Boltonsquad I have a similar sounding problem.
My connection to the network is reported as excellent but randomly the actual download speed drops away to nothing.
Does yours "mend " itself after a short while and start working again...or is yours off for good. I find rebooting the laptop resolves it faster than waiting for it to do it itself...until it does it again(not good).
I use a belkin router (number can be supplied when I get home if needed) ..maybe thats the common?

Hi All
I have been having internet disconnects every since I have had VISTA. It is the same that used to occur in WIN ME & 98. It happens when you spend a long time surfing on one web site. There was a fix for this problem then and I have forgotten it. It is not my server as I have another computer with WIN 98SE and it does not happen. I have to cycle my DSL modem off & on to reconnect. I am connected through a router to a second computer and to the modem and the second computer stays connected. The internet icon (lower right display) will indicate local only is connected.

If you're using a laptop or server, the network card may be configured to go into power saving mode releasing the IP address after a set amount of time of non-activity.

Which version of Windows Vista are you using? Vista is known to have plenty of networking issues on it's own so it may be worth searching Microsoft's KB (Knowledge Base) at www.microsoft.com if you're familiar with it.

Also your computer system mentions a Dell E-520 which appears to be a standard desktop PC, would you be able to confirm this?

Finally, if you could post the results of an "ipconfig /all" while the network is connected and then when it becomes unavailable, this would help troubleshoot the problem.

Regards,
Roden

Hi theriffs1

I have Verizon DSL also, I was receiving the Pop up ballon: An network cable has been unplugged about every hour.

I would need to physically reseat the ethernet cable, (are you using an ethernet connection or a USB connection?), finally I purchased a new ethernet cable and that problem went away.

I did call Verizon, they have a free upgrade from 1.5mb/368kbps to 3.0mb/768kbps, it was offered to me without my asking.

Have you tried an ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew from a command window?

Start > Run
key in:
cmd /k ipconfig
Click: Enter
The information appearing will show you what your IP address is, and how long before it expires.
My IP address renews itself every 15 minutes.

At a command prompt in the same command window key in:
ipconfig/release
Enter
Then key in:
ipconfig/renew
Enter
Your IP address should be renewed.

Have you had any viruses that may have corrupted your Winsock?

Let us know if this makes a difference or not, and if you don't have the upgrade yet, call Verizon and get it!

Hi,

First welcome to TSF!!!

Next I would try a couple of things. Start off with a power cycle of your equipment, and see if that helps. Next you would need to narrow it down to what is causing the problem. Does it only happen when you are using chrome or does it happen with other browsers, more to the point does it happen with other programs that use the internet like email, instant messaging, etc. Are you running any programs that allow you to torrent, that can cause issues with your connection.

Cheers!

Welcome to TSF.

We will take a look at your system for malware, but it's unlikely the cause of loss of connection. If we can't locate a problem, you will be encouraged to ask for advice in the Networking forum, here at TSF.

Download HiJackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HiJackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose [Do a system scan and save a logfile].
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit [Scan] and then click on [Save log].
3. Post the HiJackThis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HiJackThis since they may be harmless.

Hello, I just got a new computer and I'm having internet problems. I used to use an old XP desktop with direct connection and it stayed connected, used my vista laptop with direct connection and it stayed connected, and now with my new W7 desktop the internet does not stay connected. It just disconnects and reconnects in a split second. This interferes while I'm playing games (3 different games), it'll tell me I have lost connection, and when I check my internet connection it says I'm connected. Sometimes I see the little internet connection icon on the bottom say X then a little loading circle then back online in a second. It interferes when I'm streaming also. It happens every 10-30 min or so and it gets REALLY annoying. Anybody have similar problems? Any way to fix?

So heres the deal.
Ive recently upgraded from windows XP 32 bit to Windows 7 64bit, this ofcourse means Ive formatted my harddrives and made a clean install.
But now Ive realised, that whenever I try to download a large file which takes several minutes, my computer will disconnect from the router and I have to let windows do its thing and it says its "Resetting Network card" After this I have to reboot the PC and yet again let windows do its thing where it tells me to let it reactivate my network card. When Ive done this Ill be connected to the internet again. Ive tried to let my PC run for several hours just to make sure its not random dc's but within 5 mins of me starting a download it dc's. I can browse around just fine and have tried countless of different solutions around the web and none have helped so far. Now I beg you to give me Every single possible solution that you guys can think of. Keep in mind that I have another PC running vista connected to the router and that one works just fine, and I never had this problem on XP.
Also please keep in mind that Im not all that techie when it comes to router settings and such, so keep it simple for the sake of my brain not overheating!

Thanks in advance.

A:Internet Disconnects

Sounds like a network driver problem but I don't see any network driver downloads fro Windows 7 X86 or X64 on the ASUS site for the Gigabit network device.

As a test, remove the router from the setup and connect directly to the broadband modem. Try a download and see what happens. If it fails the same way then the router is definitely involved. If it doesn't fail then try swapping the port and cable the router is connected to with the one currently in use by the Vista computer then try the test again.

If it works then it is either the Ethernet cable or some problem with that specific port on the router. If it doesn't make any difference, then try deleting the Gigabit network device from Device Manager as follows:

Press WinKey+R to open a Run box.
Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter
Expand Network Adapters
Right click on the Gigabit device and select Uninstall
Reboot and wait while Windows 7 rediscovers the device and reloads the driver, see if that helps.

Ok, I am so stumped and hope someone can help. I am Technology Director for a public school system. All of our vista machines began randomly disconnecting from the internet this week. Local network connection is fine but can't connect to the internet. We believe it has something to do with the fact that one of our domain controllers crashed and was removed earlier this week. When the disconnect happens you can disable/enable the connection and it will connect again only to disconnect in a matter of minutes. This happens with wired or wireless. Now here is the wierd thing, if we assign a static ip in our 172 ip range (which is the range of ips in our DHCP server) same problem but if we assign an ip in the 192 range no problem, it stays connected all day. I don't know if this is a related issue or not but I also noticed that occasionally after disable/enable is performed, the local connection and the wireless connections are both named network 4. I noticed this on two of our vista machines at the same time and another time it would read the local connection as the wireless connection (Crazy I know). Our networking administrator worked on this all morning and thought he stumble on a solution. He found traces of the crashed server and deleted them (I think in active directory). It seemed to have fixed it at first. I was able to stay connected for about 2 hours but before the leaving work for the day it began again. Hi everyone,

I posted a while back that I was having frequent disconnects from the Internet with my DSL connection and a Westell 7500 modem. The problem is always solved by turning off the modem, waiting 1 minute, and turning the modem back on, although sometimes I have to do this a couple times. There are also periods of time when the Internet is extremely slow for hours.

I ran several tests from the website that was recommended and the results are below. The first is when the Internet was running decently well. The next 2 are when it was extremely slow.

My modem is plugged into an arbitrary phone jack and I use the wireless connection for my computer. There are no phones or other gadgets plugged into any other phone jacks. I did find the Telco box outside the house on the first floor but I did not want to plug the modem directly in because I would have to leave it outside hanging somehow in the cold and I didn't want to play around with opening it and such.

Can anyone interpret what these tests mean and what is my next step? Thanks!!

I have built a computer recently that continually disconnects from the internet. I can temporarily reconnect by Troubleshooting and results in the following messages:

Problems Found:
1. The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken (Detected)
2. The default gateway is not available (fixed)

Then, as I said the connection remains for bit, but as I attempt to download from steam the MB/s slowly drops until it hits 0 and then finally loses internet connection.
The signal strength is strong and any other electronic devices can connect without issue.

I've attempted all of the fixes shown in this thread http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...rror-the/c130ede9-757e-4224-9ae8-3cceb82eeb74

I'll be right in the middle of something and suddenly pages wont load. I have to turn off the modem and router and let it all reset itself. Sometimes happens before the internet is opened too....

Hello, I recently started having problems with my internet connection where I'll be online (game or random browsing) and I will randomly be disconnected. I am hardwired through a wireless router. The most I run at one time would be Ventrilo, website in background, and WoW and this has never happened before until a couple of days ago. I attempted to switch ports and still same results.

I thought maybe it was the NVidia nForce Networking Controller and the WoW support forums suggested I go in Device Manager > Advanced Tab > Checksum Offload - Disabled, Speed/duplex Setting - Force 100 Full Duplex --- It also recommended I turn off the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option. I have done all this and to no avail. The NVidia nForce Networking Controller verison is 4.7.5.0. I am at a loss as to what to do from here on.

Let me know what information I can provide to help solve this.

Thank you!!!

p.s. - This took me 10 minutes to write while I was dropped here and there randomly.... the irony...

A:Random internet disconnects

Easiest thing to do is try being connected directly to the modem (bypass the router) or get another router and see if the same thing happens. I had this issue about a year ago, replaced my router and it's been solid since then.

I have Comcast Cable Internet service and i have a Motorola SB4200 Surfboard Cable Modem connected to a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router. From time to time I will be unable to connect to the internet. It seems to happen very randomly and I have not detected a pattern in the disconnects besides its usually when its most inconvenient for me.
This issue started a long time ago and when i first encountered it I had called Comcast and they told me simply to just unplug the modem for 10 seconds and then plug it back in and this has always effectively reset the connection and allowed me to access the internet again.
However, lately its been far too often and is really annoying. Some days it goes out multiple times within an hour.
Any ideas on a remedy to this? Will a new modem help? Or is it something else entirely?

Thanks in Advance

Hello, the last few weeks my internet is disonnecting every 30 minutes or so.

The things I've tried so far are:
- Up- and downgrade wifi drivers
- Reset my router
- Change the channel on my router
- Change the wpa lease time on my router and disable it
- Turn of the firewall of my router

This problem only happens to my laptop. I can have my mothers laptop next to me and while mine is disconnected hers will still work. My laptop doesn't get hot either and it is running on maximum performance settings.

Also:
Pinging to the router gives a time out (4 packets send, 0 recieved).
Pinging to localhost -n 20 gives 20 packets send, 20 recieved.

Now I'm clueless as this proves I loose connection with my router, however the 2nd ping test tells me my wireless card is ok. So I honestly have no idea what else to try and how to solve this issue.

I'd greatly appreciate your help, thanks.

Because I'm in a workplace environment.. I like to lock windows by using winkey-L. However, my internet connection is always disconnecting and reconnecting, and when I go back to my desktop.. a balloon on my system tray shows "Local Area Connection is Now Connected". So I dont know when my actual connection actually disconnected. Are there any programs out there that can determine when a connection was disconnected and reconnected? That would be great.

A:Finding out When internet disconnects.

I believe you can tell the most network adapters to write link state info to the WIndows event viewer.

Your problem is most likely Windows turning off the network adapter to save power (or the NIC doing it by itself). See the adapter properties in Device Manager.

I have a Speedcom+ Broadband Router (RT514AD), connected to a Motorola cable modem and 2 computers (each running Win98SE). Everything works fine for about 1 hour, then my internet connection is lost, and I have to press the reset button on the router, which then sorts it out (but only until the next hour).

I've looked for a firmware upgrade, but can't find find technical support for this product anywhere (it was the cheapest after all!). Is there anything I can do to make the connection more stable?

Hi, My new laptop with vista on it disconnects from the internet whenever I'm not using it. I made sure it doesn't go into sleep mode anymore and it still does it. Any idea why it's doing this? Also i heard from a friend that the newest AIM for vista messes up vista. Is this true?

there is a setting in power options that can be set to turn off your hard disk, check that setting as well
open power opptions in control panel select change when computer goes to sleep on the left and then towards the bootm in blue, there is a link to 'Change advanced power settings' click that and there are more options there - check those settings

hello, i have been dealing with this issue for almost a year now.

Every hour my internet has a brief "pause", it can be from 3 seconds to a whole minute, it happens every single hour, but not exactly, In example it could happen at 9:12 then at 10:08 then at 11:10 and so on.

its very annoying because it disconnects me from online games. I've called my ISP about 30 times, changed my modem twice, no solution.

I know its from the network and not my PC because i also play on consoles and it happens too.

I have a very odd problem with my internet. My internet seems to disconnect randomly at times or when I am doing too much at once. When it disconnects it says it can't find any networks and it shows this icon:
I am using Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit. This just suddenly started happening back in June and it never did it before then. To get my internet back online again, I have to either restart my computer, or put it on sleep and awaken it. This seems to be connected with another problem I have when watching online videos from YouTube or another site where it will stutter my whole computer for about 2 seconds while watching them (but if the videos are fully loaded, they don't seem to stutter anymore).

So, after a few weeks, it really started to bother me, so I decided to just reformat my computer and get a fresh install. I was sure that would fix the problem, but I was wrong and the same thing still happens. My computer is hardwired into the router and I have Verizon FIOS. The other computers in my house that are also hardwired into the same router do not have this problem at all.

Another weird thing is, if I am voice chatting with someone and I am watching a YouTube video at the same time, and that YouTube video stutters, that is an instant disconnection from the Internet. And last night it disconnected when I had a few tabs open and was loading a YouTube video and downloading something at the same time. So, I assume that it just overloads or something and ju... Well, I'd change the cable and the port on the router you connect to first. If that doesn't do it, you may want to consider a replacement NIC for that machine.

So this problem started a while ago, at least half a year ago when i changed internet service provider.
every once in while my internet slowed down so much that the connection on my browser timed out and some other softwares like skype would not work. When i looked in my network center it showed that my computer is connected to my LAN but not to the internet. Another weird thing was that while my internet was down i could still be in skype calls or even send texts sometimes but my browser or games that require internet connection wouldnt work, and while i could stay in skype calls i started before i couldnt start new ones or call anyone. And lastly, the problem seemed to only be happening to my pc, not my brother's who is connected to the same LAN as i am, and whenever i disconnected his cable from the router i seemed to not be getting the problem anymore. After a little time varying from 15 seconds to 5 minutes or more my internet would come back and work as well as always.
In the beginning my internet worked most of the time and rarely this problem would show up, but as time went on it happened more and more until my internet almost never worked properly and i had to call my ISP and some tech guy that i know. Eventually i used the windows internet fix thing, not expecting it to work since it never does, but miraculously it found a service that should be working in my computer but wasnt and once i turned it on the problem seems to be fixed.
But lately a similar problem ... Read more

Heres my problem, it has persisted for the past 3-4 months or so.

Randomly, but more frequently when i am gaming (WoW, Counter strike, Ventrilo, Warcraft III), my cable completely disconnects my internet and telephone (Optimum online & Voice)

The modem itself stays on but the lights for DS, US, and Online go out for 30 secs to a minute then reconnects and my internet is fine for the next 30 minutes or so until the same thing happens again.

I have switched out modems since it happened, no change.
I have switched out routers (upgraded from a WRT54GS to a WRT310N), no change.

I have seen you guys do some remarkable stuff with Hijackthis and such, if you could help me now with this problem it would relieve a lot of grief.

Thanks for your time

Okay So i have a dsl modem that seems to disconnect occasionally when someone calls or when just using the phone or even when im just on the computer i was wondering if there was any way to check any possible way to see if i have a worm virus or anything thats making me have internet issues, its a desktop to...it has been happening for awhile and now all i do is usually go on msn, play online games, vent, teamspeak and what not usual stuff...please help me its really annoying me.

A:Internet Disconnects Randomly

Normally with a dsl modem your service provider install a line converter for the user to be able to use internet and phone at the same time without it will occur some problem as yours. It will become like a sort of dial-up connection.

Check if your line converter is still here or that it is not damage. You will see it on your telephone line which will be like a socket containing two cables, one for telephone and one for internet(dsl modem).
