Re: vista product key needed (new HDD - used product recovery cd)

Q: Re: vista product key needed (new HDD - used product recovery cd)

I have had to put a new hard drive in my laptop after the original one failed.
I then reinstalled Vista using the product recovery CD that came with the laptop (not the recovery cds i made as these did not work!)

Vista is now asking me to supply a product key as the one given is incorrect.
I tried the key from the bottom of the laptop, but this does not work.

What to i do?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The Windows product key on the bottom side of your notebook is an OEM license key. That means this can?t be used with other Windows versions.

I called and then chatted Lenovo Chat support, and asked them that i want to upgrade to Window 7 Home Basic from 32 bit to 64 bit, but the Lenovo gave me the false information that it is not posisble because it is shipped preinstalled. please mark my word false information. But later I contacted Microsoft and they said ? The same COA (key) is legally usable for 32 and 64 bit windows as of win 7 and onward. He also said the key comes pre-installed in the mother board.  The Microsft Guy was such a fantastic fellow that they called me and the Lenovo customer care India through conferenece call, and expalined them that do not give false inormation. Lenovo team was unable to provide me the COA (key), and later now they are asking me to visit the nearest center to obtain the Window 7 Home Basic recovery media buy paying a price, wich is above 2600INR(50$USD). Has Microsoft changed something in the latest April Windows Updates?
I create a default Windows 8 Enterprise VL image on my laptop in audit mode as I have always done previously.  Nothing has changed from my side.
When I install the image via WDS, everything installs fine.
When I use my WIM file to install via USB, it now comes up with:
The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.
right after selecting the install language.
I have checked EI.cfg and it is normal:
[EditionID]
Enterprise
[Channel]
Volume
[VL]
1
I then tried adding PID.TXT with my Enterprise KMS key and, rather than error it then prompts me for a product key.
Surely using the VL install media it should never ask for a product key.  It never has before. (And I've never had to before)
I prepped the image as normal using:
C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:C:\Windows\win8unattend.xml
Any ideas?  I can't but help thinking something has changed in the latest batch of Windows Updates.  It's quite frustrating as not all my machines are capable of PXE, so I have to use USB.
The reason I think it is a recent change, is if I do a default install and DO NOT do any Windows Updates, it all works fine.  Only when I install the latest WU does it start doing this.

A:[NEW] The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.

OK, So I've fixed it now, but I will still like to know WHY this has changed.

If i do this to my WIM, it then installs from USB:

imagex /flags "Enterprise" /info c:\temp\WIM\ME\install.wim "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86" "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86"

I wonder because I use the WDS capture image if this has somehow changed recently.
Very annoying, but now at least I can install my custom image :)

I picked up this lenovo laptop and shortly after I got it the HDD went out. I replaced the HDD and Installed a full version of Windows XP SP2 then used the Win 7 upgrade disc I bought. I did a clean install of the Win 7 then I activated it at that time without any issues. Some time after that I started getting the message it wasn't a genuine copy. I rearmed the time period but I'm not able to activate the copy again with the PID. I get the message this product is for upgrade and not a clean install. I need to find out if I will be able to register this copy or if I will need to start over from scratch. I did try putting in another PID but it didn't activate with it. I haven't been able to change the PID back due to the message I am getting about the upgrade not clean install.

I appreciate any help I can get with this issue.

I recently purchased a Precision M6800 (probably one of the last ) and now want to add an external slice-type battery. I did some searches on DELL web sites (my local Belgium one and some international ones) and on the www. This resulted in several product codes for what seem to be the same, or at least similar products: 451-11831 / 451-BBGJ / 312-1351. Can anyone tell me if those are all the same, or at least compatible products ? And more importantly: is any of those (or all 3) really the slice-type battery I am looking for to attach to the docking connector of my M6800 ?

So short story, I work at a college tech site that fixes student and faculty computers. A foreign exchange student from Japan with a Sony Vaio (most likely from Japan as well) managed to get a virus on his computer and he was blocked off our network. Our policy is that we wipe and reinstall the OS to ensure that the virus is gone. However, we didn't have any Windows 7 Home Prem media CDs so I downloaded a Win7 Home Prem 32bit iso off of MSDN and burnt it to disk. However, when entering the product key given on the bottom of the laptop(and I've checked 3 times now to make sure it's correct), I get a:

"Product key does not match the current Windows SKU" error.

Why is this happening? Do I need a certain burnt iso (from Sony in Japan?) because of the laptop's foreign origins or is something else causing the problem here?

A:Product Key Does Not Match Current Windows SKU (Foreign product key?)

Yes, you need a Japanese iso, they have regional editions.

Last week, I purchased a new Lenovo X260 (Type 20F6-006AUS). Packaging said it came with Windows 10, but when I fired it up it booted into Windows 7. After searching for the Windows 10 media or files, finally succumbed and contacted Lenovo support. The agent said the Windows 10 files are available by request and come on separate media, so I made the request.  This afternoon, a thumb drive with the Windows 10 Product Recovery arrived.  (Rhetorical: Can it really be Product Recovery if the laptop was represented as having Windows 10 installed, but was not actually installed?) I followed the instructions. Now when it boots to the thumb drive, I click past the Acceptance of Terms and conditions, acknowledge it'll wipe out all my personal data and watch the recovery start. About 1 minute in, I get a pop-up with the window banner "Product Recovery" and the message "Recovery failed." The recovery process must have gotten far enough that it wiped out the boot sector on the SSD, because I can neither boot to the original factory SSD or to the Product Recovery USB they shipped. I've searched around and found no solutions for this specific problem. Some have speculated it may be because they didn't have factory installed HDD, but I've swapped nothing out from how it came shrink-wrapped. Any suggestions?

The product key is encrypted in the Registry, so maybe one of those commands/utilities has the wrong encryption algorithm.

I have been reading posts on seven-/eight-/tenforums for years with pleasure and gratitude for all the solutions they provided. But my current issue is one of the strangest things I've encountered in all these years. Have been searching through a lot of posts but haven't found any similar issue (or solution for it) yet. So here it goes.

Symptom: the OEM product key in the registry of a Windows 7 Pro installation (laptop) does not correspond with the OEM product key in the laptop's BIOS.

Here's the situation in short. It concerns a laptop from a student friend of mine who asked me to upgrade her current Windows 7 Pro x64 OS to Windows 10. She couldn't tell me if the installation was the original OEM factory partition or if it (perhaps) could be a pirated version. Since I wasn't about to just upgrade to Windows 10 without checking the authenticity of the Windows 7 OS, I performed the regular checks: see if it was activated already by running the "Activate Windows" program (check), check under Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> System tab if the OS was already activated (check) and run Microsoft's online Validation Tool (check). Everything seems fine, the OS is activated and genuine.

Still, the COA sticker was missing. My friend didn't have any physical recovery media or other stuff with a license sticker on it. So I thought I'd check the product key stored in the BIOS and compare it with the product key in the registry. If they'd correspond, all would... Read more

If you do not activate in 30 days and do not get an extension of time, you can get 2 30 days extensions, you will be shut out of windows every 2 hours, until you activate. It is simple, just activate online, it takes about 5 minutes. Then you will be all set.

I would greatly appreciate advice on the following.

My Sat Pro M70-220 (PSM75E-00D008G3), laptop has 4 partitions created by Acronis Disk Director Suit v9:

C: OS-Win XP Pro SP3
D: Programs
E: Data& Downloads
F: Backups

After booting the laptop into Win XP, I inserted the Toshiba Product Recovery CD into the DVD-RAM drive
and navigated to BMP folder, R:\G_INST\BMP, where I found the file "menu.bmp" which gives 2 Recovery
options:

*1. Recover entire Hard disk*
Warning . All stored data o your computer will be lost.
Factory pre-installed software will be installed.

*2. Expert Recovery Mode Warning:*
This is for PC experts only.
Factory pre-installed Software can be installed onto an existing partition.

My questions are with respect to using the "Expert Recovery Mode" :
- will I be able to use the "Expert Recovery Mode" of the Recovery CD to reinstall the Win XP Pro (factory pre-installed software) onto my C: partition, whilst not affecting the D, E & F partitions ?
- will I be able to format the C: partition, using the "Expert Recovery Mode", without formatting the other partitions ?
- what is the exact "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?
- where can I find further info on the "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?

Thank you

>will I be able to use the "Expert Recovery Mode" of the Recovery CD to reinstall the Win XP Pro (factory pre-installed software) onto my C: partition, whilst not affecting the D, E & F partitions

Yes, this should be possible. Using the Expert Recovery Mode you should get the Ghost window in which you could select the partition where the OS should be installed. In such case only this partition would be formatted.

> will I be able to format the C: partition, using the "Expert Recovery Mode", without formatting the other partitions?

Yes, theoretically this should be possible.

> what is the exact "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?
As I mentioned above, this mode allows you to restore the OS on a certain partition and only this partition will be formatted.

> where can I find further info on the "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?

It sounds to me like your rescue and recovery partition may be corrupted. My recommendations is to get the rescue and recovery CD's from Lenovo. I had to purchase some for an old T40 and it cost me like $45, but after you have them you can have piece of mind that you can replace the hard drive and still restore back to Factory settings. After you get the recovery CD's I would recommend reinstalling rescue and recovery.

Okay, I recently did a clean install after a virus affected my firewall and there was no way around needing to new Windows 7. So, I got a new Windows 7 Home Premium (Service Pack 1). There is one problem; I need a product key, which I don't have because I did a clean install as my Windows disc is gone and I can't find it anywhere. And after 30 days (from when I reinstalled it (7/10/12)), I don't know what's going to happen.

So, how can I get a product key?

A:Windows 7 Product Key needed

The product key should be on the COA sticker on the side of your PC/undeneath your laptop.

If you can't find it, you have to purchase a new Windows 7 licence.

Is there any way i can get details of the original OEM key which came on the laptop ?

A:Product key needed - had to do a reinstall

If you have installed operating system using Microsoft installation disc this key will not help you at all. This licence/product key belongs to original recovery image you got with your notebook and it is not some ?universal key? that you can use with every OS installation.

When you use Microsoft installation disc and you don't have valid licence key you can buy it online and activate preinstalled operating system.

I have an IBM A21p 2629HTU Thinkpad. I ran an IBM diagnostic test called a Drive Fitness Testing which indicated "one or more bad sectors found". I was directed to utilize the Erase Disk Utility to repair the drive. This would entail the use of a Product Recovery CD. Hi, Generally, and I am speaking of the regular full size hard drives, one bad spot is not going to kill anything, at least right away. Windows when it comes across a bad sector, will pull any data from it, and save the data as best it can.....it may be something needed, but if you have not seen any software errors or other file indications, then it is probably nothing needed.
The bad spot is then marked so, and not used by Windows again.

A full format sometimes can fix the spot, for some filesystem error, but if it is actual physical damage, then it will be marked so during a format (or a repair or recovery utility you were advised about) and not used, but you may still run OK that way. Depending on where the bad spot is, you might stay good for quite some time.

I have a hard drive with 8 bad spots, running win98, and the drive has been that way for 5 years.
The bad sectors/spots can increase, and that is a sure sign of trouble, so do not just let it go on, as it may crash totally at any time. I've read that defrag is not good to do in this situation.
Whether that is true or not, I can't say.

You can have some amazing luck on Ebay, search the Laptop or Notebook posts for that same model of ThinkPad, but, it would have to be exactly the same to work, you might find used ones for sale that come with the Recovery disks you need, for not much cost.

I have reloaded IBM ThinkPads with a regular install of win98SE and then been able to download and add the driver... Read more

I have attempted to installed windows 7 via USB, and Windows 10. All goes well until the product key is required. I have also attempted the Dell OS Recovery and Dell Key Creator. All failed due to no back up or product key. When I enter the Service tag Dell OS Recovery says "No Recovery found for this device"
I do not have any backups. I have contacted Dell and they are no help. I can enter the BIOS, and when I attempted to install windows 10 I was able to get to the system recovery menu. Attempted every option in that list and nothing found. Now I can enter command prompt from this menu. I was told by Dell there is no command or solution to recover the Product key off the motherboard, they said I have to send the motherboard in to have it repaired. Is there anything I can do. I have been racking my brain for days trying to find a solution. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Is there any way to recover your product key? I have Win7 retail for 3 computers. I have just installed on the last computer (the first two were installed a year or so ago) and I don't have the product key. I think I tossed it out as it was on a card IN THE BOX rather than a sticker on the end like every other frigin MS product I have seen. I must have saw the card and just tossed it out thinking it was just another ad trying to sell me something else. Seeing the sticker (but not looking close) just assumed it had the product key.

I'm not sure what you're asking for? Activation does not get obsolete? Not if your legally activated. What problems are you having with activation?

Ok, I feel dumb for asking this since I have been working IT for over eight years now but I cannot figure this out (after two days of trying). I have the aforementioned model and it came with Windows 8. I did not annotate the Product Key prior to upgrading to Windows 8.1, followed by Windows 8.1 Professional. I attempted to run the recovery, both boot from and create media from, but was told that required files are missing. After some research, I found that this is due to upgrading the OS and is a common problem. I am replacing my HDD with an Intel 730 Series 480 SSD. Prior to doing so, I would like to find my product key somehow from the recovery partition. I have mounted the partition and assigned a drive letter via diskpart and taken ownership of the entire drive. After looking through many scripts, ini, etc. files on the partition via notepad, I have yet to locate the product key for the original Windows 8. Is there a way to get it from the .WIM on the recovery partition?... Or is it still in my BIOS somewhere? Any help is much appreciated.

Hello Dacrone, and welcome to Eight Forums.

For Windows 8/8.1 OEM computers, the product key will be embedded in the motherboard's firmware chip now. If you like, you could use OPTION FIVE below to see the OEM key.

the restore disk will make it just like when you bought it with OS and any programs that came with the pc
in general you cannot backup a program, programs need to be installed to function properly, the only way is to have 2 hdds with one cloned from the other and that is not what you are doing

You can't run a keyfinder program unless Windows is booted up to desktop. Did you burn your recovery cds?

So I had my co-worker reformat a computer for me, and he downloaded ProduKey to get the keys for Windows and Office. Turns out he didn't copy the key right and he reformatted so now I am without an Office product key. Is there anyway to get it back at this point? I'm stumped.

A:Recovery Office Product Key

Windows 7 Forums will not assist you in trying to recover or crack an activation code. Please refer to Item 6 under Forum Rules.

Don't you still have the original Office installation discs & a copy of the Activation code somewhere, otherwise you may have to buy a new one.

Hi, Please do not messing up with Microsoft. Hopefully the key is still in the BIOS of your machine, please use the following tool to get it:   http://www.belarc.com/free_download.htmlWhen run this tool, it produces a report, scroll down to Software Management section. Windows 8, 8.1 or 10  product key is in there. You can also use the following tool to find out:  https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/Regards,

Hi. I bought my Toshiba Satellite L300 back in 2011 and it came with windows vista pre-installed. A short while later it was announced that Toshiba were giving a free upgrade to windows 7. I received the installation disks and installed windows7. I have had zero problems with my machine since and have been a very contented customer - until very recently.

I emptied my recycle bin recently and for some reason there were some critical files in there, so now my machine won't boot. I don't know how they got in there bcos they were in the administrator recycle bin and I always use a subordinate user account - for security reasons.

Long story short, I tried booting my machine using the windows 7 installation disk which worked perfectly until I had to enter the product key. Unfortunately the product key on the sticker of my laptop is for windows vista so I am being told it is invalid. I am just wondering if I can retrieve my windows 7 product key from anywhere? Would Toshiba have a record of it they could send me? I've been told by microsoft that i have to get it from Toshiba.

To complicate matters, I bought the laptop in Ireland, but am now living in S.Korea, so I can't search at home for the product key.

I have the Toshiba upgrade DVD, would the product key be on there?

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Heya guys -

I've just started a business - GetFIXED.net, and my technicians have been equipped with laptops to log problems etc and their days are mapped out on exchange diary.

But they're complaining that when a customer needs a new part - or wants to buy some new peripherals, they have to go through my Excel worksheets

Now, I used to work at PRG PowerHouse LTD [which was an electrical retailer now gone POP] and we used a thing called Axida EPos. If we wanted a Sony LCD 32" we'd click TV, then filter Sony, and then LCD, and then >28"-<32".

But they just got a new system on an intranet - where you clicked Television, then could search like a normal website. This included a picture and all the details.

So my question is - does any one know a program which creates this kind of a catalogue.

Lots of information but hope someone can help.

Thanks

Jonny

Just discovered that the Win 7 Professional Retail Version I purchased, downloaded & installed has a bogus product key. I've since ordered a genuine Win 7 copy. When it arrives, can I just enter the new product key into the existing system without reinstalling Win 7 again, following the "change product key" instructions? If not, is there a way to do this without a reinstall?
THANKS.....Lee

A:New product key to replace invalid product key

Hello Lee,

As long as you purchased a retail Windows 7 Pro, then yes you should be able to just change the key to the new one to activate with it.
