HDMI output suddenly stopped working

Q: HDMI output suddenly stopped working

Laptop: HP 15-R005TXOS: Windows 8.1 x64Laptop Purchased: September 2014TV: SONY KLV-40W562D About 1 week back, my HDMI output suddenly stopped working. On connecting the cable, there is no activity. I tried all of the available solutions includingPressing Win+P and selecting 'Extend Screen' or 'Duplicate Screen'Going to Device Manager and Disabling then enabling Intel HD driverTrying to update Intel HD Driver from Device Manager (It said that I already have the latest version)Plugging cable more tightlyKeeping TV switched on before plugging cableKeeping TV switched off before plugging cable, then switching onUpdating NVIDIA GEFORCE 820M drivers (820M comes with this laptop model)Trying both the available HDMI ports in the TVCompletely resetting my laptop to factory settings using HP recovery toolNone of the above steps worked for me. The 'Screen Resolution' window doesn't detect any other display, neither does Intel Graphics Properties window. There is no option on the 'Graphics Options' submenu which helps to select another screen (Graphics Options is shown in the right click menu). Below are my Graphics Adapter properties I have ruled out any problems in my TV because I also have a RaspberryPi 2B, which works flawlessly with the same TV and HDMI cable. So, there is no problem with the cable and the TV. I have tried downloading compatible drivers from Intel's website but on installing, they give the following error when I try to install. NOTE: This error appeared in all compatible drivers listed with intel. With reference to the 8th point above, I remind you that I have tried connecting HDMI both at factory settings and at the prevailing settings before. Also, for the sake of providing all relevant information, I also include a snapshot of my charms menu (Charms bar -> Devices -> Project) below. This is when the cable is connected to the TV. I have no clue as to what has gone wrong. None of the available forums provide any solution to the problem I am facing. This problem appeared about 1 week before and the laptop HDMI output was perfectly fine before that. I will provide more information if requested. Any help, apart from the points already mentioned, will be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898 laptop with Windows Vista (64 bit). For two years, I have watched movies on my TV via the HDMI connection. Recently, this stopped working (I had not installed anything new or updated the computer). The HDMI cable is definitely still good. My laptop could not connect with the external display. I tried everything I could think of including making sure the drivers were up to date (they were) and the handy reboot method. Nothing worked until I went into the device manager, right clicked on the graphics card and uninstalled and reinstalled it. Using this method, I got it to connect again for a couple of days, though I had to uninstall and reinstall every time to make it work. This has stopped working now too though. I am at a loss. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

I use my laptop regularly to present via LCD projectors using a VGA cable. After a break of 4 weeks, I cannot get the output to work.  On one projector / cable, the display kept flickering on and off, as if the connection to my laptop was physically wobbly at the location where the VGA cable meets the laptop.  On the next projector / cable, my laptop registered that the cable was stable and connected and offered the display options for dual display.  However the display was not shown on the screen.  Both projectors / cables work well with other laptops. Any ideas?

HiI used external monitor for months and yesterday when I tried to reconnect it, something go wrong.Monitor is detected, it is listed in Catalyst Control Center but monitor shows "No Signal" message.I tried monitor on different PC and it works.Behavior is same under openSuse Linux and Windows 7 so this issue is not due driver problems.I tried to reset BIOS, also tried to hold down power button for 30s without any power source. No effect.I tried to update BIOS but it is already latest version. Is this hardware issue? What else can I do to resolve this issue. Thanks

Hello, I have been using this computer for 2 years without having any issue. I have it connected to my TV through HDMI. Since last Sunday the computer seems to have lost the HDMI output signal. I've tried it in 2 different TVs and it doesn't show anything, not even Windows loading..However if I plug it to an VGA monitor through its VGA port, it works fine. I've updated the latest Intel HDMI drivers (found a link in this forum) but it didn't work.Could it be a driver update issue? I'm using Windows 7, but don't remember a system update ultimately... I'm afraid it can be hardware related.. Cheers

Hey!

I have a Portege R705 and for around 2 years I've had a setup with two samsung Syncmaster 2443 displays, one connected by VGA and 1 with a hdmi to dvi cable.

I've never experienced any problems until one of the screens could not detect a signal anymore. Neither monitor can detect the hdmi signal and both detect the VGA.

I have proceeded to purchase a hdmi to dvi adapter and connect the dvi cable that was delivered with the monitor to my screen but without success.

I'm pretty much out of ideas, has anyone experienced something similar or has anyone got any ideas on how to fix it?

many thanks,

Matthias

It is somehow strange that you have noticed this problem for no reason.
Have you may changed anything, installed some additional software, update or anything that can be responsible for this?

When you test only one of these both monitor do you have this problems?

I have a duel monitor setup where one was plugged into HDMI and the other into VGA. Both were running off of my NVIDIA graphics card (i also have Intel 4000 Graphics which came with my processor but is not in use).
When playing a game - my HDMI monitor just shut off. My VGA continuing to work.
I have tried many things such as reinstalling drivers but nothing has seemed to work. My Intel 4000 Graphics are failing to work also. I am yet to look inside of my PC to see if anything has moved out of place.
I've tried googling and I've found nothing of use. If anyone has a solution that would be great! - P.S I'm new to the forums

Hi, I use HDMI output to connect to my TV a lot. One day I was using it without issue, disconnected the cable to move the laptop and when I reconnected it didn't work. I tried using (Win + P) and another dedicated keyboard shortcut (Fn + F4) to chage the display, neither would restore the TV display. I can still connect to a projector using VGA and I know the TV and HDMI cable are still good because they both work with my Windows 8 laptop and bluray player.

I'm just not sure how to start troubleshooting. I don't see display ports in the device manager and the graphics card says "This device is working properly." So where do I go from here?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

A:HDMI out suddenly stopped working. Don't know how to troubleshoot.

Do some quick checks on the cable. First you can think about if you have bent the cable in any weard ways. If so that could have damaged the cable. You are NEVER supposed to fold a cable as it can break the small cables inside of it.

Secoundly have a look at the pin's on each side of the cable, Are any of them bent? If so this could be the cause.

I was using my computer normally, not even listening to music or had any sound on, and suddenly heard some crackling noises and since then the sound has not worked. Was just browsing the internet, nothing hard on the computer at the time.

have looked at many other threads for solution, but couldn't find one that worked for me unfortunately.
(speakers are plugged in, work fine with other audio devices, and are on)

running win7 x64 on a dell xps8300
driver version: 6.0.1.6141
directx 11.0

I believe there is a problem with the internal sound processor on the motherboard since I am able to hear sound with headphones via the front headphone jack. I have re-installed drivers for it/rebooted, with no luck.
Not sure why, but on the sound options (attached pic) it set my realtek digital output as my default communications device, and when i set it to the default device, I couldn't hear sound from the front headphone jack.
In the realtek hd audio manager, it shows that something is plugged into the back panel, but like I said, no sound will play.
Tried disabling front jack detection, but nothing changed

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I note when researching this problem some people are suggesting graphic driver updates and I did start with a Microsoft thing but cancelled cos I was worried in case it was not legit or virus etc.

The title says it all. I'm very frustrated with this problem since I really need to connect my laptop to an external monitor for work. I've read and tried all relative topics in this and intel forums (e. g: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-920-can-t-connect-to-any-external-mon...), have done all steps mentioned (including firmware, bios and windows update, windows reset, ...) but the problem still persists. Apparently, most users that had faced the same problem been able to get it worked after installing "Type C Firmware for Windows 10 (64-bit)" or the BIOS update provided by Lenovo. I installed them successfully but nothing changed. I am sure it is a software issue since there is no sign of any hardware one (all devices are fine as device manager shows and diagnostics app found no problem). It was just working fine until suddenly stopped working (probably after some recent windows update). I would greatly appreciate any help.

Hi.

I've been using my laptop, outputting to my TV via HDMI for Months with no difficulty. Usually, the displays are duplicated as I have resolution issues if I output to just the TV ('show only on 2').

Yesterday, I changed the output to 'show only on 2'. Sure enough, it worked fine, my laptop display turned off, but the resolution was way too high, so I reverted back to 'Duplicate my displays'. The image on the TV stopped and it dropped to a 'no signal' screen, my built-in display was (and remains) fine. It now refuses to detect the HDMI output. The TV does recognise there is a device plugged into the HDMI port, but says 'no signal'. I've tried two HDMI leads, both same result (and both work fine on two other devices into the same TV using various inputs). My laptop just point blank refuses to see the TV. I've tried the Win+P thing, I've rolled back drivers, reinstalled drivers. I can't understand why this has happened and how to fix it, and it's important I am able to use my television as a display.

I really hope someone can help. Googling has brought up kind of similar issues, but not exactly this issue.

Thank you.

My laptop crashed when removing the HDMI cable... totally dead... had to pull the battery to get it restarted. Now unfortunately the HDMI output is no longer recognizing the TV unless there is a second VGA monitor connected. Does this sound like a hardware issue?

A:HDMI output not working.

Sure sounds like it.

But first, go to Control Panel > Display > Change Display Settings > and click the Detect button with the HDMI connected to the TV.

I have been operating under the assumption that you should never "hot plug" HDMI connections. Turn off the laptop and TV, connect the cable, then turn them on.

Hi,

I have an HP dv6500 laptop with NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS (HDMI output). I just bought a philips 8404 LCD TV.
When I try to connect the laptop to the LCD, nothing happens. I can't get any video displayed on the TV.
I know that both the cable and the TV HDMI port are fine beacuse when connected to the XBOX they work without a problem.
I can see the TV on the NVIDIA control panel, it is recognized as "Philips FTV", but when set to dual display nothing happens, and when set to use the philips tv only, the laptop screen goes black (as it should), but nothing on the TV.

I have the TV for few days now, weird thing is that one time (and one time only) I did manage to see the computer on the TV via the HDMI cable. I didn't do anything special - just clicked Fn F4 and it was there. but it only worked one time and I can't get it to work again (but at least I know the HDMI port on the laptop is also fine). When I connect the cable to the TV I do hear the "windows new item detected" sound on the computer, so there is a connection but no picture at all.

I tried re-installing the NVIDIA drivers but nothing helps.
Any help or suggestion would be appreciated...I waited for an HDTV for a long time and now I finally have it but without the PC link it's rather futile

I have a strange feeling that re-installing windows7 would solve it (as it does for most things ), but I'm trying to avoid this annoying lengthy process...

Cheers,
Idan

My playback device for my HDMI output is an AMD HDMI Output. I just got a new Bush Smart TV after cracking my old LG. HDMI output sound worked perfectly fine on my old tv and it works fine on my other Samsung TV. However the soud only refuses to work on my new Bush TV.

The picture works fine and I can see everything perfectly on the tv screen, but the sound just wont work and only works on the laptop.

Whenever I test my AMD HDMI Output with this TV, I get the error message saying - This Device is being used by another application. Please close any devices that are playing audio to this device and try again.

I don't get this error message when connected to my other TV(s). Sound and Picture works perfectly fine, yet the sound doesn't work on my new TV.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? I tried to update my sound driver, but it's up to date, and I've made sure that it is the correct playback device selected. Nothing seems to work though.

Your laptop might be outputting a higher resolution than the TV can display. You mentioned it was a DLP TV so its probably only 720p, so if you laptop is outputting 1080p it might not work.

Hi everybody,I have an incomprensible problem with my X270. I use an external monitor in 4K with an HDMI cable (my dock don't have displayport). But the 4K output isn't working all the time. When I turn on the computer sometimes I only have 1080p resolution and I can't change it (for 4K, I can for less like 720p). But sometimes, it is working fine. Even if I don't change anything. For exemple, I do an update, restart my computer and after it, without changing anything, I only obtain 1080p. If I restart 3 hours later, I can have 4K. (I am on Windows 10)But, I also have Debian on my computer but I prefer W10 when I use my 4K monitor because Debian isn't perfect with 4K. But on Debian, the computer can offer 4K on the monitor everytimes. There is no problem to detect 4K on Debian. So I don't understand why it is not working with W10.Any of you have the same problem or a solution?

OS: Windows 10 x64 Home
Audio Driver: Realtek HD Audio v.6.0.1.7324

Seems like I've tried everything I can find on forums. Here's a rundown of everything I've checked:

1. Playback Devices -> Show Disabled/Disconnected Devices? Yes
2. Restarted Windows Audio Service? Yes
3. Device Manager -> Sound, Video, and Display Controllers -> Scan for Hardware Changes? Yes. (This was the fix this afternoon, is no longer detecting TV for an audio device after reset)
4. HDMI cable integrity -> verified.
5. Remove and reinstall audio driver? Yes
6. Remove cable from both laptop and TV and re-connect? Yes
7. Remove cable and restart laptop and tv? Yes
8. Repeat above step in various different ways.
9. Verify audio path on TV HDMI port is working? Yes, with a different laptop using same cable.

I didn't have this problem for the last two years I've owned the laptop. I've been to sever hotels with different TV's and it's been plug-and-play the entire time - until recently.

Like I said before, it worked briefly this afternoon again until I reset the laptop. Now the above steps I used to correct the issue the first time are no longer working. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Hello everyone, I purchased a Lenovo Ideapd 110-15ISK laptop about a week back. I am trying to connect it to my Samsung TV for external display using HDMI cable without success. Hot keys are not at all working after connecting the cable and I am therefore not able to give the command. Win+P command is also not helping. I have even tried lowering the screen resolution to 1024x768 but no relief. Please help!

Hey guys I have a ASUS M51vr Notebook Running windows 7,
I have the latest ATI Drivers for my ATI HD3470 mobility
Plus latest Realtek HD drivers.

My problem is when i plug in my hdmi output via my hdmi cable it doesn't make the new device detected sound it would make on vista then allow me to choose to extend or duplicate to the new monitor. When i plug in my hdmi cable in, there is no picture until i reboot the computer then the picture comes. But i still am not able to have audio coming out from the HDMI output. On Vista i would connect the cable and then the new device sound would beep and it will allow me to choose extend options and the sound will work without a problem.. Now i see this is a comman problem and i been doing my head in trying to fix it the past 2 months, i'll post my Computer details and images of the HDMI cable not detected as it is currently connected.

Hi guys,
I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 on my HP G60 125CA laptop. I never had this issue with Windows 7, but ever since upgrading to Windows 10, I can no longer use the HDMI port to use an external monitor. The problem is, the computer recognizes the external, as it makes a sound AND shows there's two monitors (the laptop and the external) in the Display Settings, but I get no signal on any monitor I use, no matter what HDMI cord I use. I've tried adjusting the resolution to 1920x1080 for my HDTV and that didn't work. I still get no signal. I have the latest NVIDIA graphics driver. NVIDIA GeForce 82000M G is the video card. I've tried re-installing, completely removing the driver, doing a clean install, installing an older driver and none work. I even tried extending, duplicate, show desktop only on 1, show desktop only on 2, etc.

If you guys could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

If I recall correctly, Windows 10 has issues with some NVIDIA devices/drivers.

Hi there, My sound is not working. I only have a HDMI Sound output. However, I don't have any HDMI Output in my computer. I reinstalled windows a couple of times lately, but i don't know for sure if thats the problem.
Right now im using Windows 7 32-Bit, My hardware specs are: CPU: Intel Duo 2 Core. Graphics Card: AMD ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series. Any help or such will be Very much appreciated

A:Sound not working, Only have HDMI Sound Output, But no HDMI port in PC

the HDMI sound is most likely off your GPU but that series seems to not have a HDMI port so that is odd. If you can make sure your onboard audio is on in your BIOS and also run the tool on this page so that you can update all your system info for us. System Info - See Your System Specs

My mini HDMI output has stopped working. No video no sound on the external screen. I've updated everything- Windows, Intel Graphics drivers, all the critical updates on the Lenovo companion app but still no luck. The computer doesn't even seem to recognise that the output is connected (the little sound that plays when the cable is plugged in doesn't play). I have tested the cable and monitor on another lenovo device and all works fine.  Frustratingly the output seems to work when connected via the Thinkpad Dock.  Also of note: the advanced display settings no longer takes me to the desktop verison of the application. Even if I go through the control panel, but takes me to the basic windows 10 interface, Anybody have any ideas- I really need to be able to project from my computer

Ok here is the scenerio.

- Been using a 24" monitor and a 32" Monitor in conjunction for quite some time (couple years) with out a hitch. I think i had a power failure and came home to my 32" monitor not displaying anything (fyi, i had the desktops as duplicated on both screens, Each one are in separate rooms)

The 24" monitor is hooked via the DVI and the monitor is hooked up DVI to HDMI adapter and the HDMI goes to my stereo and then to the 32" TV.

Here is what i've tried.
- Remove and reinstall drivers
- Swap the HDMI cables
- I even tried a different video card (nvidia 550 ti)
- Even re-installed windows!!

On my stereo receiver (Harmon Kardon AVR 700) it flashes HDMI as if it doesnt have a signal going to it, if there was signal to it then it would just be a solid HDMI light.

I've tried resetting my Stereo receiver. No luck. Oh and I also tried all 3 of my HDMI slots available.

The ONLY way i could get it to work, is to plug the computer directly to the TV (using the same dvi to HDMI adapter and port on the video card) I know I can just bypass my receiver, but i dont really want to lol. As i use it as a HTPC A LOT!

Posting here is kinda my last resort as i'm pretty stumped at this. Keep in mind that everything was working fine up untill the power surge.

A:2nd video output stopped working......

sounds like you've narrowed down the trouble to your receiver...possibly something got fried during the power outtage. Are you using any kind of UPS / surge protection? Does the receiver work okay otherwise?

sounds to me like the receiver is the culprit.
