Constant BSOD and video driver crashes when playing DotA 2.

Q: Constant BSOD and video driver crashes when playing DotA 2.

Hello. I've been having random BSOD's and video driver crashes when playing DotA 2 for about a week now. They happen mostly constantly every 5-10 minutes. Sometimes nothing happens for up to 30 minutes. I ran memtest but nothing came up. Happens only when playing DotA.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello. I built my computer, first time for me. Ever since I first started using it I have had BSOD and application crashes at seemingly random intervals. I can go a week with no problems, and then get several BSOD in a few hours. My video card fails every so often and applications will often momentarily freeze, then resume, before crashing. I hope I followed the instructions properly, I'm sure you'll let me know if you need anything else.

Thankyou.

Hello,

I may be new here, but still trust me! Anyway, on with solving your issues!

If you are overclocking your system, please return all overclocked components to their stock speeds. If the BSOD's are found not to be caused by the overclock, you can re-overclock the components once we have finished the diagnostics

Hi everyone,

I have been playing Dota 2 for almost two years now. And for the first year I never experienced any problem. But then enter 2015, I don't remember what month it started but the problem always go this way:

The Dota 2 Client will suddenly exit for no reason, the Steam Client doesn't. So I need to login again. Resuming the current game, after a few minutes it will crash again. This will happen around 2 to 3 times. After that the game will hang including the sound. Then it will enter the BSOD Screen.

Things I have done:

1. Clean my PC --> Doesn't work.
2. Clean Reformat --> Doesn't work too.

I've also tried experimenting it with other games like GTA V, but the bug doesn't happen.

Possible problems that I have thought:
1. HDD Section containing the Dota 2 files are somewhat damaged.
2. PC is heating too much, but then the PC should crash every time it reach the threshold. But it only occurs on Dota 2.

Attached is the dump file. Attachment 361814 Hoping for positive response.

Thanks,
Jethro Torres

So recently i was having a lot of AMD driver issues and crashes while playing Dota 2 and some other games, Now over the past 3 days i have been getting BSOD crashes as well while playing games. This does not happen immediately in games, it appears to be random.

I reset all my BIOS settings just in case it was my overclock, but i had another this afternoon afterwards.

System specs:
-Windows 7 home premium x64 (Full retail)
-About 1 year old computer
-OS install about a year as well

Anything else you need to know just ask, I think I've done this right.

I've had this problem since like 2 years and i havent been able to solve it, yes reinstalled OS more than 15 times, DDU drivers, reinstalled drivers, tried beta drivers, tried old driver, cleaned up the dust inside laptop, windowed, fullscreen game, disabled some services, disabled TDR on registry, delay TDR on registry (it just makes windows freeze for the time i put on the registry, example TdrDelay = 10 sec, windows freezes for 10 when TDR happens in dota), reduce dota 2 graphic settings, ccleaner, advanced systemcare, SFC/SCANNOW , verified files, (There was this time where i was messing with my pc trying to fix this issue where i thought ive fixed it because whenever the TDR happened dota 2 would freeze but it would run again like nothhing happened and i could still play but somehow then it didnt last long)

installed new version of dota 2 called reborn and for some reason it didnt crash for some 2 months and now whenever i play this new one it crashes the whole windows and i need to restart PC

There was a BSOD too where i disabled google chrome hardware acceleration or something like that and when i got to a page like dailymotion my computer froze and i had to restart.

The couple of thing i havent tried is Thermal paste because my laptop is very hard to open GPU wise. but i doubt thats the problem because the BSOD from dota started when i recently bought the Laptop like after 1 - 2 weeks

I have had multiple BSODs most frequently while playing Dota 2.

they usually happen in around 50+ mins in game and I have had them since about 2 months ago avery other game runs without problems.

I Did a driver verifier and ram check as was instructed on other posts. Ram check did not show any errors But when running verifier it gave me BSOD before windows could actually start. It said something about corrupted drivers on the kernel stack more info on the zip files.

I?ve used blue screen viewer and the reoccuring addres with the problem is ntoskrnl.exe+5094ec

If there is anything noteworthy I forgot to add please ask and ill provide the information.

Suggestions for a possible fix ?

(I don't use English in my real life, so sorry for any lingual mistakes.)

Hello everyone. I have two problems with my PC. It likes to randomly restart from time to time. Sometimes when I browse the web, sometimes when I play a game.

Second problem shows up when I play games. Ocassionally I can play for an hour without problem, but another time game CTD's after five minutes three times in a row. It happens with almost every title I own.

My PC specs are:

CPU - i5 661 3.33GHz LGA1156 Box
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H Intel H55 LGA 1156 (with latest bios installed - one of my futile attempts to fix my problem)
GPU - Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD7850 2GB/256 bit PCI-E OC
OS- Windows 7 64bit, full retail - I reinstalled it after a format few months ago (again - I was trying everything I can do to fix it)
Power Supply - Zalman ZM600-GT 600W

I own this PC for almost 3 years now. GPU and PSU are 1 year old, because I upgraded it. Problems with BSOD's and CTD's happened on my old configuration, but it didn't bother me that much back then.

All the fans are working, I ran CPU and RAM testing software a while ago without any bad results. I used temperature monitoring tools while playing games, and it never showed even a sign of overheating.

I have no idea what could be the cause of these crashes. Maybe it's a hardware issue, but I don't really know how to determine which part could be broken.

Finally - I made this dump zip file as described in the tutorial for posting bsod problems. I'... Read more

Hi,

Of the attached DMP files, we are seeing:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (50)

Quote:

This indicates that invalid system memory has been referenced.

Usual causes are a bug in a device driver, hardware related memory issues, corrupt NTFS volume, anti-virus software.

An exception happened while executing a routine that transitions from non-privileged code to privileged code.

This bugcheck is generally related to a video driver issue.

Interestingly enough, we have an ATI/AMD based bugcheck in these DMP files: A0000001

If we take a look at the stack:

A:Constant bsod while playing video game

Quote:
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Hey, I hope someone can help me with this. I'm currently stuck in China for another three months and I'm not too keen on taking my laptop to the techs here. My computer skills are... limited so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do on my own but hopefully, you guys can help me figure out something.

Over the past two weeks, my computer has been freezing a lot at certain periods. It can freeze about 10-20 times in the space of an hour. It usually begins with a crash while I'm browsing the internet (Firefox or Chrome) or working on a word document. After I do a force reboot, my laptop freezes again within the first 5 minutes after the startup screen as my startup programs are loading, sometimes after I've re-opened my browser or Word, or even when I'm not doing anything. I usually have to reboot a few times within a short timespan after the first crash. My laptop also freezes after inactivity; I go away to do something and ten minutes later when I get back, I find that my laptop has frozen.

Today, I got a BSOD. I forgot to write down the error but from memory, it was for a Driver State Power Failure. It occurred after I left my computer on when I went out for a bit.

Here are the details I could find:

OS: Windows 7
x64
Full retail version
Age of system: bought in June 2011
Haven't reinstalled the OS
Intel Core i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz
4.00GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M
Thanks in advance!

This was a timeout waiting for a driver to respond. Usually a driver. The two best candidates (with only one crash to examine it is not definative) are your Avast, and this driver Related to SSPORT.sys 32bit Port Contention Driver from Samsung Electronics. This driver is from 2005 and needs to be updated or removed.

Avast can be a contributing cause of BSOD'S . Please remove and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST

There are no memory dump files in the uploaded reports. Please do the following:

Quote:

Please check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.DMP. If you find it, zip it up and upload it to a free file hosting service . I recommend Windows Live SkyDrive - http://skydrive.live.com or another free, file-hosting service. Then post the link to it in your topic so that we can download it.

Then, follow the directions here to set your system for Minidumps (much smaller than the MEMORY.DMP file): http://www.carrona.org/setmini.html

There is one STOP 0xA error listed in the MSINFO32 report. While waiting for further BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these directions:

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Hey guys, I recently had some BSOD problems with any online game and it was fixed by one of your BSOD helper dudes

Ever since then (only about a week ago) I've been able to play any game without a crash, except for Dota 2.

If anyone could help me out with my problem, here is the minidump file of the BSOD.

Thanks,
Travesh

Hello Travesh,

Dump file didn't have anything specific to Dota 2. If it's only happening a specific game then it could be the game itself. I saw you have already ran the MemTest86+ and came out clean.

If your Overclocking the processor pleas stop it. Try to contact thier support and see if there is any updates or patches available because seems like it's very common problem with Dota 2.

Hi everyone,
I have been getting random bluescreens while in a CS:GO or Dota 2 game, they happen at random times during the duration of my gaming session. I have also did a clean uninstall of my GPU driver and reinstalled from the AMD website. The Blue screens are mostly DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, together with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that after I reinstalled the GPU drivers, it stopped for a few days and started again, thanks.

Hi guys, as the title states I have been experiencing consistent BSOD every single time I play DOTA 2 now without fail. I had just installed a new SSD a few months back and thought that the game on SSD might in someway be a problem. After removing it completely from my SSD and doing a clean installation of the game on my HDD the problem still occurs. I don't know if it helps but I would always use skype every single time I play the game with my friends. In the earlier days, the blue screen error message would appear longer as it is dumping files. But as it is a continuous occurrence now, the blue screen error message disappears quicker and quicker, leaving me no time to capture what error code was actually shown.

Attached is the DM Log collector from my PC.

Thank you.

I attached my MSINFO32 file, can you please resolve the very same issue for me.

I am using a HP dv6-3150se, so I do not know how to unplug RAM modules or stuff. -_-

Sorry for bumping up an old thread, but it seems this is the exact problem I am currently facing.

Thanks.

Okay, so to add further details.

I experienced BSOD for the first time on 1st May, I installed 13.2 Beta version of Video driver a month back or so (I play dota2 daily). I kept playing and it worked fine. Sometimes, Dota2 would just close suddenly. Now, from yesterday it started giving me loads of BSODs time to time. Today, I installed ATi 14.4 (not beta version), the match won't even start or if it starts, it'll hardly last 2-3 minutes before the BSOD pops in.

BSOD details:

Firstly I read the error to be IRQL_not_less_or_equal something, I read that it might be due to recently drivers and stuff so I restored my PC to 30th April.

Now I am having BSOD which states page_fault_in_nonpaged_area. I have reverted to my earliest driver already.

A:BSOD while playing DOTA 2

And here is the proper way to report a BSOD. Sorry, I came across the instructions after posting.

Nevertheless, here it is.

Hello, can i get some help please? I get different (i think) BSODs after a while of playing or just watching Dota 2. Had no problems with other games though.. I uploaded the minidump files but if i did something wrong please inform mee asap. I don't know why but i have a feeling that drivers might be involved, but i checked them and they are up to date etc..

ps: i don't overclock my pc.

Hello VOID730.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

With DV enabled, use the computer normally, and try to do the most crash prone actions as play DOTA2 and other online games.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight, per RAM module per slot.

No DMP's were included...

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32. To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).

I know I have another open thread, but this BSOD is unrelated to the other one.

When I am playing Dota 2 (PC Game) I often get a BSOD a couple of minutes in. I tried turning overclocking off, and lowering the graphics settings, but it still happens. My video card used to overheat (up to 105C at some cases, but usually below 100C) but the fan was cleaned and now it stays at a reasonable temperature. I'm afraid it might have suffered permanent damage from the heat. Is that consistent with the error I'm getting? (0x00000116)

EDIT: I forgot to add that the BSOD used to happen very occasionally when playing DOTA 2. Then over time they became more common until they happen more often then not now. That's why I think it might be heat damage.

A:BSOD When Playing Dota 2

Hello kotoran.

The BSODs you uploaded are showing stop 0x116, that indicates display/graphics related BSODs.

It may be caused by some elements like an incompetent graphics driver, failing GPU, overheating, dust allocation, and insufficient power supply, mainly.

In that case, I would suggest you to do the following.

For the graphics driver, check the version of the driver in device manager.
Right click on my computer > choose manage.
In the resulting window, click on "device management" in the left pane.
Expand the "display Drivers" by clicking the triangle in front of it. It will show you Raedon HD 4800.
Right click and choose property.
Click on the driver tab of the property window.
Take a screenshot and upload it here.
Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy.

Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings. Also set the BIOS to default, too.

Hey guys,

So I've been having this issue for a couple of years now where I can be playing Dota for any amount of time before my screens suddenly drop out like they've lost connection and begin to flash. My computer will run for a while longer given I can tell when I've got music playing but if I leave it for long enough it will fully crash/bsod.

This is a problem which tends to be bad for 2-3 weeks then it will be fine for a few months before reoccurring again.

I used to have x2 480gtx cards in, I always thought that was the problem so I always used to switch them out and the slots they were in, currently only have the one in. Decided to finally look into the problem a little more for the first time last night, looking at my most recent dmp file, the errors I was getting -

*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for nvlddmkm.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for nvlddmkm.sys
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for win32k.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for win32k.sys
Probably caused by : nvlddmkm.sys ( nvlddmkm+921828 )
I googled the nvlddmkm.sys issue and that seemed to point to a Nividia driver issue. I followed what was suggested online and did a clean install of my graphics card driver just before and as soon as I opened up Dota it crashed, usually it wouldn't happen until I'd connected to a server to start playing a game so if anything, it made it worse...

Any help/suggestions as to wha... Read more

I was playing dota 2 while talking with my friend on skype. Nothing out of the ordinary as I had done that several times before. I launched the game using Razer Game Booster. Yesterday I also used ccleaner to clean registries, and I also uninstalled ~60 GB of games and programs, but didn't touch any files relating to steam(the program that hosts dota 2) or dota 2

Also I couldn't get a dxdiag dump via the SF diagnostic tool because of some error.

Ok had a look through your files a couple of things of note:

First please uninstall alchohol 120% this program uses a driver that is known to cause BSODs. Once it is uninstalled please download and run this tool:

DuplexSecure - Downloads

next I notice that you have both McAfee and AVG installed, having multiple AV programs can cause some serious problems uninstall one or the other using their respective uninstall tools:

AVG Removal tool

McAfee removal Tool

Last I notice your Bios is rather old I would check the computer s manufacturers website for updates if there are any.

Was in the middle of a game, and got a BSOD. Computer restarted, and when it came back on I saw in the dialog window that came up that the error was:

BCCode: 3b 0x0000003b

Tried opening up my NVIDIA control panel so I could double check the graphics drivers - then got this error:

"This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

A:BSOD while playing Dota 2

Follow up:

I manually downloaded the last driver pack from NVIDIA just in case there was something bad in the newest release of drivers that came out on the 18th. The control panel is working now... but I'm hesitant to test out any games or anything until I find out if there was something more to the BSOD.

Thanks in advance for any help on this one... really starting to think it's time for an upgrade to my build as well as a reinstall of Windows. :P
