Lenovo G50-80 keyboard not working in BIOS mode

Q: Lenovo G50-80 keyboard not working in BIOS mode

Hello All, I have this lenovo laptop with Ubuntu and Windows 7 installed in it. Now I wanted to format my system with only Windows 7 (using bootable USB) but strangely when I plugin the pendrive and start the system with the small button next to the charging point (my bad for not knowing the button name) it shows the bios menu but the direction keys in keyboard do not work. I tried to do so using an external USB keyboard but it still do not work. However the keyboard works fine once I select Ubuntu and log into the system. Thanks in advance for any help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A few days ago I had some problems with my HDD so I brought a new one.  To install Windows in the new drive I plugged in the DVD drive that Lenovo ships with the laptop and tried to boot from it. That failed and BIOS got like "programmed" or stuck with configurations that doesn't let it recognise any boot media no matter if it is a USB stick or HDD, no matter if I try to change the configuration of the BIOS it would always get back to the initial state of not being able to boot I even tried to reset it by unplugging its battery and the laptop battery but the only thing that happens is system time starting from 0 while any other configuration stays the same.  I thought this could be fixed using crisis recovery mode, but the laptop doesn't recognise the BIOS loaded on the USB and never make any sort of beep or alert noises, the screen doesn't show anything either and fans just get to 100% I really need help to solve this problem, it's like the BIOS got stuck in the last configurations before plugging the DVD drive in. (The Boot menu still showing that there's a USB booteable device even when it is not plugged in).

As you can see there are multiple problems that have come up in this notebook. I recently reinstalled windows 10 to solve some other problems. The installation went perfect and afterward everything seemed to work fine. When my wife turned it on the blue BIOS screen came on (as it did before the installation) and I was unable to use the touchpad, mouse or arrow keys to move the selection. I rebooted and it started up fine only the keyboard did not work. I had to use the onscreen keyboard to log in. Once inside, sometimes the keyboard works and sometimes it doesn't. I've tried using the f6 to toggle the touchpad on but it didn't work. The keyboard is touch and go and now the blue screen BIOS sometimes comes up when the computer is started. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've searched for solutions and haven't been able to find anything that works to solve these problems. I've uninstalled the drivers and rebooted for a fresh re-install of the drivers but that only temporarily fixes the problem. Thank you.

Hi.  I have a problem with my yoga 710 in tablet mode. The on screen keyboard just pops up and goes away after a secound.  Some say its a problem with Chrome. But the problems also occurs when i try to log in to windows in tablet mode. The keyboard pops up, and goes away so i cant type my passcode. If i flip the pc out of tablet mode and opens the onscreen keybord by pushing on it on the taskbar it stays open. Someone know how to fix this?

I have a Dell 7737 laptop and from time to time it develops a firmware glitch where random keys stop working for both BIOS Setup and Operating Systems. After such thing happens neither shutdown (Full shutdown / Fast Boot disabled) nor restart get the keyboard back to a normal state. At this point the only workarround is to disconnect the AC power cord and then either drain the battery or physically remove it.
This laptop's battery cover is not designed for daily removal and it is starting to get loose because of this BIOS bug.
I am running BIOS version A14 but this bug was present since I purchased the laptop with BIOS version A07. Sometimes I cannot even type my password because the random keys that stop working match those it uses.
Please Dell could you provide a BIOS hotfix for this annoying issue?

Hi, I'm new to the forum but any help would be greatly appreciated.

My keyboard (not usb) suddenly stopped working, but the mouse is fine. I tried countless ways to correct it, checked connections, bought a new one, reinstalled drivers and so on but still won't work.

I decided to do a complete reinstall of XP and the keyboard works in the Bios mode, but once windows starts it won't respond, no lights, no nothing?

Could anyone advise what to try and and do next as I am at a loss. Should I try a USB keyboard? Is it a virus.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an on-board issue with the PS2 port.

Hi

I have the most strange issue with my keyboard. It works in Bios, it works in safe mode, it works when I try to repair windows (repair files are added to a partition on the laptop - its how I bought it) but whenever windows boots normally, the keyboard won't work.

It is a built in keyboard to my laptop and the fact it works everywhere else tells me it's fine (just in case connectors were damaged I stripped it and had a look anyway).

Things I have tried
1) uninstalling the driver in safe mode - this reinstalls when I reboot but still no joy. The strange part is I do not think the driver files are corrupted because safe mode and normal mode seems to use the same drivers (standard ps2).
2) The manufacturer (HP Compaq) has no specific drivers which leads me to believe that standard ps2 is right but I reinstalled quick buttons -no joy
3) there are no conflicts or yellow exclamation point in device manager
4) the only thing I did was upgrade my AV (AVG 2013) so uninstalled -no joy.
5) ran AV and MBAM and ran TDSS killer just in case - no virus or malware
6) cleaned registry with Ccleaner -no joy
7) no processes or startup items are unusual but I have killed /disabled just in case-no joy
8) did a system restore (no joy)
9) I had backed up the registry ages ago so I tried that -no joy
10) Tried on battery and plugged in no battery in case the power is an issue -no joy
11) reflashed Bios - no joy
12 - All language sttings looked ok

Hello! I have a question. Friend of mine gave me this pc (y50-70), everything works fine, can't say anything bad. But the problem is about my bios password and the keyboard. When i try to enter bios it asks me for system password. Asked my friend about it, but he never tried to enter bios. Quetion is, can i change/remove bios password?  About keyboard, every few minutes to 1 hour my A and S buttons stop working for some time (2mins-30mins). And then randomly start to work again. What's the issue? how can i fix this? (When I was writing this text these keys stopped working several times).  Sorry if these questions have been asked before, im pretty new here.   Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have a G780 which will not boot correctly. Here is a summary of symptoms: Hitting power on causes CPU fan to start but this stops after a few seconds. The HDD also spins up but uncertain if it remains on. During this the screen remains off, I say off instead of black becauses I can't even see a flicker of life in the screen. Also the keyboard has no lights and there are no BIOS like beeps when powering on. The white lights at the front are on and blinking. I've tried the usual removal of battery, holding power button and trying from AC without batter. The OKR button does not work - at all. It will turn the laptop on but I only get the same situation as when powering on normally. I've tried a new HDD but the same issues persist. I've tried swapping the RAM slots around - interesting there are some combinations where the above symptoms happen - that is CPU fan powers on then goes off. Other configurations cause the machine to constantly restart, but I'm not convinced it's a RAM issue. Please help me track down the issue if you can! Regards, Chris

Hi there, Shaban ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

First make sure this is a hardware concern.
Run an Onscreen Keyboard, by Pressing (Windows key + R) then type in OSK then hit enter
Now on your onscreen Keyboard click on the keys that are not working see if they responding with the Onscreen keyboard.

If the keys responded using the Onscreen Keyboard, Then your Keyboard hardware is bad.

Update us how it goes.

Hi!  I bought a Lenovo yoga 730 laptop about a month ago.  Within the first couple of weeks I was having issues with the five and six keys not working.  I took it back to the store to have it checked out and they said it was a Windows 10 issue.  We reinstalled the driver and turned off some services and it worked fine for about 2 weeks, getting me past the return window, and now it's doing it again, along with a couple new keys as well.  It's super annoying and it looks like it is a common problem, but I can't find a solution that works long term.  Is there anything I can try?  The computer is barely a month old.  Thanks for the help!

The hardware on my one month old Yoga 910-13IKB (Windows 10 Pro ver. 1703) is now stuck in what seems like tablet mode:The built-in keyboard does not work anymoreThe touchpad does not work anymoreThe screen is stuck in landscape mode and does not rotate when the laptop is in tent modeThe speakers are stuck with the awful tablet-mode sound qualityWhen I boot to the BIOS, the keyboard works with no issue. However, when the OS boots, it almost instantly switches to the previously described mode. If I spam the keyboard as the laptop boots, it briefly works (I can type 3-4 letters on the log in screen) and then instantly stops working. Things I have already attempted:Looking for an answer onlineRebooting the laptop multiple timesTurning the laptop off and then turning it on againUpdating the drivers (+ reboot)Reinstalling Yoga Mode Control (+ reboot)Opening/closing the lid from its closed state to the tablet state and everything in betweenThings I am reticent to do:Since this is a brand new machine, I do not feel comfortable fiddling with the actual hardware (i.e. opening it to remove a battery to do a hard reset)Suspected source of the issue:I think this has to do with the laptop believing that it's being booted while the hardware is in tablet mode (screen rotated all the way open) although it isn't. I am severely disappointed in how finicky this laptop is for the price...Thank you for any help

I was recently stupid enough to buy an intel motherboard. Apparently it has a fast boot option that it defaults to meaning usb mice and keyboards don't work before windows boots up, hence you can't access bios to turn it of.

Resetting the bios jumper from 1,2 to 2,3 makes the machine boot straight into bios, but off course the keyboard still dosen't work in bios. The board does not have a ps2 connector, how do I get a usb keyboard to work in bios so I can turn off fast boot and have my usb peripherals work so I can modify bios and have my two new hard drives work.

The motherboard is an intel DQ35JOE

Hi,

I've had this problem for a while now and I REALLY got tired of it, so here goes: every time I put my PC to sleep mode, when I "wake it up" by pressing the power button, my Mouse and Keyboard either aren't recognized at all (although theres the normal LED flashing on them as if they were working) or they have other bugs, like for example the Keyboard is locked with a certain letter like A or something and it keeps spamming AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

The only way to fix it is to pull the USB plugs and put them in again - then everything is fine! But as I said above I got tired of unplugging+plugging the USBs of my keyboard and mouse every time, especially since I use sleep mode a lot throughout the day.

Thanks for your tips in advance,

Hashmeister.

I'm not blindly posting the issue. I have done research and followed other threads in order to troubleshoot the problem but to no avail.

I built my computer back in January of this year. Not up until a few days ago did I start having this issue. I can't think of any major changes I made in order to cause this. I can use my Logitech Mouse and Keyboard the wake the computer up from the sleep mode... but once it's up, neither of them are responding.

Things I checked for: Latest update on the USB drivers, Logitech Software update (including the PS/2 Driver) Windows update. I checked if the option is checked ON for 'Allow this device to wake up the computer' (and it is on). When other things are plugged in the same USB port, they work just fine after sleep mode, e.g. my drawing tablet...

I'm using Windows 7. The Logitech mouse and keyboard are sharing a unified receiver. If I put the computer to sleep manually and try waking it up using the mouse and keyboard, they both work just fine. Only when the machine falls asleep by itself that this issue occurs.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Got an inspiron 13 7000 yesterday and trying to use for first time.  When switching to tablet mode, the virtural/on-screen keyboard cannot be selected for use.  It is available in laptop mode (when I don't need it because of the large keyboard in front of me), but not table.

So, I called tech support and was told it was outside of regular tech and they'd transfer me to software tech.  They said there is normally a fee for this support, but since the computer is brand new, there would be not charge.  Software tech refused to help me unless I paid and they transferred me back to hardware tech who put me on hold, then hung up on me.

Wow, nice support on a brand new product!  They want me to pay to get their defective product to work?  I guess it would be cheaper for them to pay for a return shipping label, give me a full refund and sell this as a refurb at half of what they sold it to me for then for them to actually spend a few minutes on the phone trying to help.

Before I return this and buy another brand, does anyone know how to get the on-screen keyboard to work on tablet mode?

Hey CommunityI encountered a rather strange problem yesterday when my wife turned on her Lenovo we bought a month ago. It is possible to enter the PIN at the Win10 startup page, but as soon as we enter Windows, no(!) key works. Neither Keypad nor Keyboard. We tried:- accessing the Bios, which works and in which the Keyboard works normally- deleting the Keyboard PS/2 Driver from the Hardware Setting Menue, which results in a re-installation of this driver but still the error remains- plugging in a USB keyboard which interestingly receives power and the volume buttons works, but here the same, the keys do not function (and this one also does not work at the windows pin screen).- waited until Win10 installed all updates, even the anniversary update, but still nothing changed (was my last hope. Pressed power button for more than 30 s.2) Onscreen keyboard working in same bizarre way like wireless keyboard.3) From Control Panel, selected Ease of Access Centre, than selected Ease of keyboard use & unchecked all check boxes.4) From login of laptop, selected Ease of access centre & unchecked use of laptop keyboard. All the above things are not working.Kindly advise.

Hello, i powered up my ideapad today which has been asleep for a few weeks and the keyboard doesnt type anymore, even an external keyboard plugged into a USB port didnt work, only the on screen keyboard allowed me to do anything.
I have tried rebooting, checking the drivers ect, even googling.
Im not sure where to go from here, im a bit technical but not great on this stuff.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
