Unable to connect, can't reach server.

Q: Unable to connect, can't reach server.

I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 on a MacBook Air.
Whenever I try to connect to a website (apart from Google, Facebook, Apple support) it shows the error message "Unable to connect"(Firefox) "Safari Can't Connect to the Server"(Safari). It is not a network problem because every other device works just fine. I've tried changing DNS to Google's, deactivating IPv6, Renewing DHCP lease, rebooting Mac, deleting cookies, uninstalling Avast Antivirus, disabling any VPNs, getting a new IP, et cetera. NOTHING HAS WORKED.
Please help me.

Preferred Solution: Unable to connect, can't reach server.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

we have a few sales people that work for our company from their houses. so i set them up with e-mail addresses here.
they use outlook to pop3 their e-mail from our exchange server .
this morning one of them had a problem with his DSL connection we called the tech , and the tech had to make him delete and create a new connection to get online. after this , he wasn't able to get any e-mail on outlook, this is the error he gets
" the connection to the server has failed: error 0x800ccc0E"
i had check his accoutn properties , and all the settings are fine.
this is weird.

any idea on what might be causing this problem, nobody else of the employees had any problems with the e-mail.

any suggestions please i appreciate it.

thanks in advance.

Hi I am running the following laptop in my office, and have been connected to a local server and internet both via a router. So far there have been no problems with connecting to the internet, but the connection to the server does sometimes require me to disconnect and reconnect to the router for me to access the files on the server. Yesterday, I have totally lost connection to the server. All other PCs in my office are still able to connect to the server. My colleague who is using an identical laptop to mine can still connect to the server. I am still connected to the router/internet, but I cannot access the server. I have tried flushing my DNS, and a few other steps recommended online but nothing works. I even disconnected the mapped drive, but I am now unable to re-map it.

The details of my laptop are as below:

Everything was OK but I needed to change the network name and password because of an apparent security breach; after doing this all equipment connected except this Laptop, All my devices except this Laptop can connect to the Internet except this one. The "Network Settings" shows the network but after clicking and inserting the Network key (password) I am still not able to connect. Running Windows Network diagnostics shows "Windows cannot communicate with the deviceor resource(primary server). The device is not responding to requests. Contact your network administrator or internet service provider." Service provider check on their end and reset modem without solving this problem and as said, all other devicesother HP laptop, desktop, smartphone, IPad, Nook are connected and no problems. Following a prior post, with no success. I really would appreciate any help as this "old guy" is at "wits end".

A:Unable to connect to server

Steps to take.

1. Make sure your PC is virus/malware free.
Download and run this: https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/
2. Make sure you have a proper Antivirus installed.
I suggest the following antivirus package: http://www.360totalsecurity.com/en/features/360-total-security/
3. Double check that your PC is configured on the correct network profile.
Since you are at home, it should be configured as such, "home". This can be configured here (Just follow up until Option 1, not further):

Check your firewall. Make sure it is configured as recommended settings, which is easy enough to spot. This can be found in Control Panel.

Do the above and see where you stand.

I got a new desktop loaded with Microsoft Vista.

When I couldn't connect to my router (at home) I tried ipconfig /renew /reliease commands and got the following message:

"Unable to contact your DHCP server".

I brought my PC to work and it connected fine to the network there.

At home I use the modem/router provided by Verizon (FIOS). I tried several ethernet cables - so I am pretty sure it is not the cable.

BTW, other pc's at home are connected to the router, so the router is OK.

Any help is appreciated.

Check the setting on your Router which served as your DHCP as well. Make sure that the Router provides enough IP addresses for your home network.

I have used the older version of Firefox without trouble on two computers connected to a wired router.

I un-installed the previous version of Firefox I was using on the first computer. I have disconnected the second computer from the router.

I installed Firefox on the first computer. I cannot access any web pages. I get this message : "Unable to connect. Firefox can't establish a connection to the server ...." Dear all,

First of all, thanks for taking time to read this.

My laptop is using a proxy server. I am using the google proxy server.
Some websites are blocked in my country, so i use this to access them.

Recently, my laptop contracted some type of virus.
Since then, I have trouble connecting to internet in the internet browser.

I am using google chrome, but it comes with the error message Unable to connect to proxy server.

The same goes with other web browsers.

I know i can uncheck the options to use the proxy servers, and yes i did this, i am able to browse the internet again, but i want to use the google proxy servers.
Why before this it was OK using it, then suddenly i am unable to use it anymore?

I think it is the virus.

Can anyone help me?

Here I attach the log files from hijackthis.

Thank a lot.

I have three computers on the same network. All running Win 10 Pro.
About 2 weeks ago two of the computers stopped getting updated from MWB. I tried manually updating but get an error message saying that it couldn't connect to the update server.
I'm not sure if this coincided with the Windows anniversary update but all three computers have been updated.
I can't work out why 1 computer will connect but not the other 2.
I have tried turning off windows firewall but that didn't help.
I have tried connecting through a VPN. Same result.
I can't even access the free download on MWB site. It appears that all of their servers are blocked on these 2 computers.
Using the sticky at the top of this forum I used the third computer to get the update. I installed it on this computer hoping that the new version might fix the problem but it still can't access the update server.

This has me completely stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Inside your LAN settings, can you tell me what number you see for port?

Next, download the free CurrPorts. No installation required. Simply run the executable file.

Make sure your browser is open before running the program.

If you see that particular port in the list, please copy the whole line(s) and paste it into your next reply. To copy, right-click and select "Copy Selected Items".

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but I tried a search and didn't find a related thread. I have set up the FTP Server on two Windows 7 (Pro 64-bit) boxes via IIS. I have found that if either PC goes to the screensaver, I cannot FTP to that PC. I get "connection timed out." The second I move my mouse or hit the keyboard to get rid of the screensaver, I can immediately connect via FTP again. Neither box has the screensaver password protected. Is there some setting I need to change so that FTP can connect whether the box is logged on, logged off, or has the screensaver up? This PC will eventually serve as the main image to go out to about 300 remote sites with scripts that run overnight and will need access via FTP.

Thank you!

Hi all. I'm hoping somebody can point in the right direction, or walk me through steps to troubleshoot this issue.

I set up an FTP server on a windows 10 desktop using the built-in Windows FTP service capabilities.
Everything was working fine.

Today I attempted to access the FTP Server, both through a web browser and through file explorer, but without success.
Through a web browser it times out, and through file explorer it prompts me for authentication but shows an empty root folder.

So far I have done the following:

*Reset all network settings using NetAdapterRepair1.2
*Checked Windows Firewall settings - FTP allow option is checked
*Checked that ESET firewall is NOT activated
*Re-assigned the same static IP address from before running NetAdapterRepair
*Checked port-forwarding rule on modem-router - set to FTP service with port 21
*Checked system file integrity - SFC /scannow - no integrity violations
*Checked the Windows 10 image - DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - completed successfully
*Checked the FTP settings through IIS manager - can't find anything wrong
*Attempted to connect to the FTP server with all security apps turned off - ESET Smart Security, MBAM, MBAE, Windows and ESET Firewall -all turned off. Previously when all these were running I had no issue connecting to the server.

It is important to note 2 things:
1) Along with the FTP issue I can no longer connect to the computer in mention through windows RDP
2) This all seems to have started af... Read more

Hello, my name is Joseph Rothchild and I do programming, animation, graphic/web design, and audio/video production. I also do advertising online and I contracted some adware, so I used WebRoot Internet Security and cleaned up my laptop. My laptop runs Windows 7, it is a Dell Ispiron, and it runs the internet off of a Arris Router through time warner cable.
Once I ran WebRoot, it restarted my computer suddenly. When it finished restarting, it came back on saying that Windows had recovered from an unexpected shutdown. When I went to go back to work all my browsers said that they were Unable to Connect to Proxy Server. My router is fine and working (that is how I am on my desktop right now) and it says that it is connected.
I have tried going to command and running:
ipconfig  ENTER
netsh winsock reset ENTER
Restart the computer, still not working.
Disabled my adapter, removed all the networks.
Enabled adapter, reconnected to my router.
netsh activate ipv4 (and v6)
I dumped the DNS
NOTHING WORKS! I have tried ALL OF THIS MULTIPLE TIMES and in different combinations. Nothing has worked and I do not know why. I have reset my router, I tried hooking it up via ethernet and to no avail.
Can someone please help? My laptop is my well being. It is how I take care of my family and I have a project due tomorrow. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hello friends,

I'm new in making online gaming servers, but I watched several tutorials on youtube and performed all things whichever needed to download & run my own Counter Strike Server (HLDS).

But the problem is that, only I'm able to connect to my server, and none of my friends are able to join it.

In many threads I read that if I'm making a gaming server online, then I need to forward the ports. In the case of CS, I need to forward ports ranging from 27000 to 28000.

I have tried the method of going to cmd and type ipconfig and then copy, paste the Default Gateway address (which is the ip address of my router) into the browser, but here nothing worked? I just got message in my browser - Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to & similar messages in other browsers.

I'm not having any router at home(I never needed it) and I'm using dial-up connection. The point is, how I can forward the ports if I don't have routers.

I'm using normal Ethernet connection, where my cable operator named inCableNet (in2net) have joined a wire to my CPU, and made a shortcut of dialup connection to my desktop. So, I can see two LAN connection in 'My Network Places'.

Please somebody help me, how to make server online so that others on the internet can join it?

When trying to dial in to MSN, I receive the following error msg:

"We are unable to connect to our sign-in server. Please check that your computer's date and time are set correctly, because this is needed to transmit your password."

The machine stays connected and I am able to browse, but cannot access email.

Obviously I checked and verified the date and time are correct. There was a significant spyware infection on the machine that I fixed, but the problem pre-dated removing the spyware. The only other issue I saw was the computer had a corrupted copy of Norton AV 2000 installed (this is a win98 machine).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I am using an xp sp2 machine as the VPN server. It connects to the internet via a Netopia wireless router, although the machine is connected to the Netopia router via ethernet cable, not through a wireless card. I have windows firewall turned off.

I am using a vista sp1 machine as the client. It connects to the internet via a Belkin wirless g plus router which is connected to a Speedstream4200 modem. This machine also connects to the Belkin router via ethernet cable. Windows firewall is on.

I set up the xp vpn server on the remote machine via logmein.

I followed this guide: http://www.aeonity.com/frost/howto-windows-xp-vpn-server-setup

I set up the vista vpn client using this guide: http://www.aeonity.com/frost/howto-windows-xp-vpn-into-remote-location
*(Note: I haven't done step 2 of this guide 'Automating the connection' as I have yet to get it to connect)

There is a least one thing I have discovered that may be messing things up, I also may not have set up the routers and modems properly.

The first problem I see is that when I set up the user account on the xp vpn server machine is that in Network Connections>Incoming Connections>Properties>Users>UserName>Properties - It shows a 14 digit password. This doesn't match as I entered an 8 digit password. I then deleted the account, set up a new account with no password and lo and behold, when you go back into Network Connections>Incoming Connections>Properties>Users>User... Read more

I am getting this error message "A connection could not be established to FEPNT1 - [DB-Library] Unable to connect: SQL Server is Unavailable or does not exist."

I can't connect to any databases, and I was told that the transaction log is full (Error 1105)

I was also told to increase the size of the transaction log or truncate the transaction log. I was also told that I can
increase the size of the transaction log using the ALTER DATABASE statement. I was also told to truncate the transaction log,
I can set the Truncate Log On Checkpoint database option, or run the DUMP TRANSACTION command with NO_LOG parameter.

Since i can't connect to any database by any method, including Query Analyzer, how can I get to my databases in the first place so I can truncate my log file(s) ?
Can I hack into SQL Server, namely going to the OS and copying the database file(s) and running a command line executable to truncate the log file(s)
since I can't get to them via any windows interface? Please help give direction here.

I am currently installing a Win 7 box. When I first set things up I was able to get onto my Linux server in Network -> [server name], by logging in to Win 7 using the same user name and password set up on the Linux box.

A short while later I am unable to connect - I get a dialog prompting me to enter a user name and password and a message "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password". If I re-enter my user name and password the dialog comes back again.

I had a similar problem with a win 7 box about a year, but I've never had problems with XP.

Any clues out there?

A:Win 7 Home - unable to connect to samba server

I've fixed this by putting the following in \Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts: myserver
.. where myserver is the name of my samba server.

I've had to do this on all my win7 and one vista machine.

Why should this be necessary?

Hi, for some reason when i tried to locate my HOSTS file i could not find it. So i download one and now it shows that there is a HOSTS file in my drivers folder. Im trying to connect to a gaming server using the HOST file, but for some reason i can't get it to work. Im not sure if what i need to connect is enabled or not.

Here is the type of server im trying to connect to: servserv.westwood.com apiregister.westwood.com irc.westwood.com gameres.westwood.com

And here is what my HOSTS file currently says :

# Copyright ? 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a "#" symbol.
# For example:
# rhino.acme.com # source server
# x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost servserv.westwood.com
apiregister.westwood.com irc.westwood.com

Please guide me on what i need to do to be able to connect to this perticular server.

To Whom This May Concern:

I tried installing SP1 on a desktop Vista, with other windows updates, and my internet stopped working. My Xbox and another computer (XP SP2) work fine and haven't noticed a difference.

I've contacted my manufacturer, and they said uninstall everything. I did. There is one Windows Update and one Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 that it won't let me uninstall. I've contacted my ISP and they said there's a problem between my modem and hub, but if that's the case, my other computers wouldn't be working either.

I've contacted Microsoft, several people, and after many procedures, concluded that I need a restore disk and set it back to factory settings. This is an absolute last resort.

Here are my specs:
Vista Home Premium
AVG 8.5
Comodo Firewall
XtremeGamer SoundCard
I don't know what else is important since the computer has worked for a year before attempting SP1

Here's what I've tried:
-ipconfig release, renew
-enable and disable dhcp broadcast flag via regedit
-exchanging cables, all cables work with other computers
-netsh resets
-clean startup tray
-closing viruscan and firewall, leaving one open, all possible combinations thereof
-power cycling the modem and hub
-took apart computer and re-plugged everything back in
-"diagnostics and repair" via control panel
-uninstalling every update that I could, including SP1

I tried System Restore to a point a few days ago with no change; oddly Firefox did not revert to an older version but stayed at 7.0 I undid the System Restore and am back to normal, still can't reach the website. Recently ran adware cleaner and after it wouldn't let me connect to most sites because I was 'unable to connect to proxy server'
I looked up a previous topic here from someone who had the same or similar problem and attempted to recreate the solution given to him/her
I ran cmd and entered netsh winsock reset
Restarted-- didn't work
Then tried the second solution
Cmd and entered netsh interface ipv4 reset, netsh interface ipv6 reset, ipconfig /dnsflush
All entered on separate lines and still encountered the same problem after restarting
Help would be appreciated!
