I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Download HiJackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HiJackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose [Do a system scan and save a logfile].
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit [Scan] and then click on [Save log].
3. Post the HiJackThis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HiJackThis since they may be harmless.

A:Keyboard And Mouse Quit Working

Was there any other problems happening before? I wouldn't think that you keyboard and mouse ports are faulty because it isn't likely that both keyboard and mouse ports fail at the same time.

I would be able to help if you can give some more information.

I use XP pro, IE7 and chrome. When I started the computer the mouse and keyboard would not work.I also have an Arris cable modem and Linksys wireless G 2.4 GHz broadband router,54Mbps.After several restarts, including unplugging modem and removing battery, unplugging router and restarting all, they finally came back to life. However after a few hours, the screen freezes and they quit again.I've run MS Security Essentials, Malware Bytes anti-malware and adaware. All clean. Anything in Bios or else where I should look. How can I control the mouse cursor with my keyboard in Windows XP Pro? Sure it may not be as nice as the mouse and therefore I wouldn't use it always. Just when I code and need to do a little navigating. This way I wouldn't need to keep swaping from keyboard to mouse.

A:HOW: Use keyboard to control mouse cursor

I don't know if Win XP has the function, but go to Start, Help and search for mousekey.

In win98, you would enable it by going to accessibility options and turning it on there.

I'm running an Acer Aspire with Windows 7 that I bought back in February. Since I've owned it, I've had an intermittent issue wherein the mouse and keyboard inputs slow way down: the pointer will "stutter" when I move the mouse and there's a small delay to all my keyboard inputs. Just for s&g, I opened up the Performance tab in Task Manager the last time the problem cropped up (about 20 minutes ago), and my CPU usage shot up to 50% or more when I moved the mouse; normally it's about 20%.

In any case, simply restarting gets rid of the problem, at least for a few days or so, sometimes longer.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Hi guys, need your help!

The cursor scrolls automtically, not in all programs - but in youtube it puts the volume up to max, or in the search bar it scrolls all the way to the right - in photoshop it keeps scrolling the window to the max right, or in notepad it scrolls all the way down to the bottom. Even on the settings in windows 10 I find it difficult to click on what I want as it scrolls down to the bottom straight away

I ve tried a different keyboard, also tried the keyboard testor to see if one of the keys were switched on somehow, and I ve unplugged the mouse and it still happens. So I am out of ideas!

Is there a way to move the focus to check boxes on websites and in programs without using the mouse?

Let's say you're in the options menu of a program like Firefox or MS Office, and there are options with boxes you can check or uncheck. I want to be able to navigate to the boxes using the keyboard instead of the mouse.

What I find is, you usually can move the focus to the item description (i.e. highlight the text) using Tab, but that only gets to the item description, not the check box. Which is odd, because why would anyone ever need to highlight the text in a program's menus?

Once in a while it does work - you can tab to the check box and check/uncheck using something like shift-click. But I can't remember where that works. Maybe MS Office but I don't have it on this computer.

I am on a laptop, where it would save a lot of moving the mouse around. It might not be much of a time-saver on a desktop.

Hi All, I visit thee forums frequently but rarely post. Anyhow, on to my issue -

I am running an HTPC on Win7 64-bit. I have a Microsoft Arc keyboard, no mouse. I can do most navigation, etc with a keyboard fine (majority of the time it's in Media Center anyhow) but there are a few applications/buttons that are inaccessible without using a mouse/cursor. Windows has Mouse Keys built-in but you must use the numeric keypad to control which is not an option for me (or most laptop users probably). I have done some searching but haven't found a solution yet. Ideally, in a perfect world, I wish I could do something as simple as when I hold down another button the arrow keys could be used to move mouse instead of normal arrow key movement.

I purchased a A485 and worked well but quickly replaced Mech harddrive with SSD. After reinstalling windows 10 I noticed I loss the function of the backlit keyboard, as well as my mouse cursor kept freeze when using the Track point when I would use the middle button for scrolling. all drivers up-to-date and even tried reinstalling windows and drivers again...still have this issue the mouse freezing is the must fustrating since I primarily use the Trackpoint to control my mouse functions. I found that locking (windows + L) and login back in frees up the mouse again...but typically freezes shortly after pretty fustrating, especially when one of the main reasons I buy Lenovo is their trackpoint. I've seen people have similar issues but no resolutions in their threads.

That is called the Touch Pointer, its easy to turn off once you know where to look.
Click Start, type pen in the search box or open control panel aand click Pen and touch.
Click the touch tab and uncheck Show the touch pointer... then just click ok to  close the dialog and the ghostly mouse picture will be gone.

This seems to happen mostly after alt tabbing from a game or even after closing a game. It doesn't matter if the game is full screen or borderless window.

What happens is that the cursor seems to not change into the appropriate cursor (or when it does it does it slowly), i.e. if I mouse over links I still get the arrow cursor instead of the hand cursor. The most annoying aspect is when it turns in to a text cursor split in half (see screenshot), it seems to go away after a while and returns to normal functionality, usually after moving it quite a bit.

I have tried changing the cursor style then changing back, as well as turning trails on and off.

Sorry for the quality of the screenshot I had to take it with my phone because I can't seem to capture the cursor. Happy to give more information on my system if required just not sure what you'd need atm.

A:Wireless Mouse Just Quit

Hey All, Again,
I just found out what's wrong with my mouse. For what it's worth and maybe this will help someone else; I had no replies here so I went to another forum and just browsed around and found someone else with the same problem. This person said that she found out, and neither Microsoft or any other manufacturers will inform us, that the blue light on the bottom of the mouse is ALSO a reset button. I got a small stylus and just touched the end of the blue light on my mouse. It moved just a tiny bit, blinked and has worked like a new one ever since. I've never heard of this before but it sure works for me. Hope this helps someone else.

Also, you said this just started happening - what is new or different since the last time it worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)? And last, have you tried other usb devices just to make sure the port is working properly?

I have an HP Pavilion Desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate (AMD processor). Started working this morning and my Logitech USB wireless mouse didn't work. Tried it in another computer and it worked fine. Got a message when I plugged in the dongle that said "one of the USB devices attached to this computer malfunctioned and the computer does not recognize it." I talked to both HP and Logitech. I updated the Logitech drivers (Setpoint 6.20), but that didn't help. HP wants me to do a system restore, which I am loathe to do (the last time it totally trashed my computer).

It seems that there is either a corrupted windows registry key or a defective USB driver. When I go to Driver File Details, it says that the Driver file is C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\usbfilter.sys, provided by AMD, version built by WinDDK in 2009. I don't know how to fix this. I downloaded a registry repair program--but it did nothing. I can't find updated drivers for the one named above.

Can anyone help?

Right click on My Computer then go to Properties. On the resulting window click on Device Manager on the left hand side, and then go to the USB Devices and remove all that you see, and then reboot.

Upon windows starting up, you will be prompted with new hardware detected Windows and just let it reinstall the USB Devices.

Is this a laptop or a desktop? What is the make and model# of your computer/motherboard?
Boot into Setup (Bios) go to Integrated Peripherals look for Legacy USB or USB mouse, if it is disabled, using the arrow key, Enable it. Save and Exit.
Go to the computer manufacturers support/download drivers site. type in your make and model # and download the Chipset driver (for USB Support)
Also, go to Start/Search and type CMD Right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type SFC /scannow and press enter. This will replace any missing or corrupted system files.

Mysteriously, I have lost some functionality in my mouse - specifically the roller/clicker no longer lets me scroll, or any other funtion assigned to it.

I very recently had Norton remove about 10 viruses - got infected by all ten at cnet.com, by the way - I had always assumed that site to be mal/spy ware free.

Anyway, I had to reinstall using an image I had taken recently in a full backup. I then ran Norton, CounterSpy (who tell me they are going to stop supporting that next fall, and are trying to get everyone to jump ship over to Vipre. (the version w/o a firewall of course).

Other than that one thing, my sys seems bug less, but sometimes tiny things like this are the very tip of a huge iceburg you are about to steam into at full speed.
I will welcome any suggestions! Thank you all!

A:Why would my mouse's (sp?) right click and rollerball function quit?

Have you tried another mouse to eliminate a hardware issue with this one? I'm saying this because the previous mouse I had before the one I'm now using developed a fault whereby the left mouse button was no longer being recognised.

Vista 64 Keyboard problem Can't figure this one out. The keyboard simply stopped working one day in my Vista 64 "archive/experiment" machine. Not the keyboard or CMOS. I also have XP and Windows 7 64 on separate disks on this machine, and they all work fine with any variation of keyboards/drivers.

Keyboard works until the VISTA 64 logon screen comes up. After Log in using the on-screen KB, device manager shows drivers for the keyboard are "Error 39" in device driver. Same error condition in Safe Mode; tried installing fresh drivers, NIL. Tried installing USB keyboard, NIL. All variations work with both XP and Windows 7 64. Has to be within this install of Vista 64. Last changes prior to failure were series of Windows and Office updates. Have unistalled them (except for SP for Office), still same problem.

This is the first problem I've ever encountered that has me stymied. Short of doing a reinstall of VISTA 64, haven't found a way around this. I've looked but can't find any conflicts in either drivers nor registry entries. Has to be some unrelated SW that stops this driver. Pretty clean system, Office 2007 w/SP's, Nero Ultra 8 (9 is awful), Roxio 2009. I've reinstalled the gateway drivers, MS drivers, etc. NIL. I've unistalled NERO since the v9.0 was an abomination. Deleted the KB drivers in both SYSTEM32 and in WOW64 folders, installed clean copies. NIL. System is Gateway FX530, QUAD, 8800GTX, 8GB memory, 3 SATA drives, each with own OS.

Hi,It appears I somehow deactivated my touchpad or something along those lines as my mouse pointer/cursor has completely disappeared? It was working fine yesterday, and I think the only thing that might have triggered this is that I accidentally pressed some keys (unsure of which ones, so I don't even know how to reverse it). I've tried restarting, as well as looked through some of the mouse/touchpad settings to no avail. If anyone can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it (I'm currently relying on my fingers and the touchscreen which isn't as convenient)

Several days ago I noticed three of the icons on my desktop had changed from pictures to generic blue boxes.
A few days later I noticed the mouse wheel didn't scroll anymore. Then the right click button quit working. This is a wired, optical mouse. So I tried 2 different wireless optical mice with no change.
I've read 15, maybe 20 previous post with "right click" problems in the title and of the questions asked in those post, here are the ones I've gotten answers to..... so far:
Yes, I did a System Restore back to a time well before the problem.

Yes, I checked the Device Manager, says "working properly"

Yep, checked for updated driver, says driver up to date.

Yes, I switched right and left button functions.

Yes, I set up a new account with Admin authority. Opened the account and tried the mouse, No change.

YES!! A RAY OF HOPE!! I tried the keyboard CONTEXT BUTTON and the MENU CAME UP!!! But when I used it on the "My Computer" icon and on the desktop, only two options showed: "Properties" and "Open Windows Explorer". And they appeared, NOT where the cursor arrow was pointing, but just above t... Read more

Yoga 14 20FY is the Best Buy edition. Running Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
I looked around and did not see mention of this particular issue.
Not exactly sure what triggered this, but it seems like a Windows update may be the culprit. My laptop keyboard has completely stopped working. The trackpoint and trackpad work fine. External keyboard works fine. I have done the System update numerous times and don't see any outstanding updates at all.
Have tried to disable the PS2 keyboard driver. It goes ahead and installs a Microsoft driver (dated some time in 2006) for this. Have the Bios updated to the most recent and then installed HotKey drivers - in fact, every update listed (whether critical, recommended or optional).
Is there anything else left for me to try before I try to open up the case? Thanks for anything that has helped anybody else with this issue.

A:Acer E5-532-P86K keyboard quit working

To troubleshoot the issue, check if reinstalling keyboard drivers help (if you have not done this already). To do this, follow the steps below:1. Click "Windows key" + "R" keys and click Ok to open "Run" window.2. In the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and click OK.3. In the "Device Manager" window that comes up, navigate to "Keyboards" and expand the tree. Click on your keyboard model and properties window will come up.4. Go to "Driver" tab and click "Uninstall" to uninstall your keyboard drivers.5. Restart your system and Windows will automatically find and install your keyboard drivers. If the issue still persists, you are advised to contact nearest Acer service center for further assistance as your laptop is new. To do this, the following link can be helpful:http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service Hope this will help you.

KEYBOARD QUIT WORKING not immediately after win 10 upgrade from 8, but after some time. This is a relatively recent problem. I went and bought a replacement keyboard thinking mine haid broken somehow. The brand new replacement part does not function either. I am speculating that an automatic update may have caused this problem. The computer may have went into hibernation before but has been rebooted since. I do not know if the hibernation causes a permanent keyboard problem I just heard it may cause one. I attempted hard reset to no avail The TOUCHPAD STILL WORKS. G6 model g6-1d67cl / PN: A6Y42UA I am now forced to use a wireless external keyboard but would prefer a solution to the problem other than the on screen keyboard.

Hey all -- my first post in this Forum, please excuse any protocol breaches....
I've been having this same scrolling problem in IE 7 -- ANY mouse (and I have 3 including a cordless Logitech) will not scroll only one line in IE. It just keeps going, my hands off the button, it's still scrolling down four, five more lines. ANNOYING.
All mice work ok in Word, other programs. And here's the kicker -- any time I try to fix it, I get the dreaded "Run DLL as an APP" error message...OUCH!
Any ideas?
Gracias, in advance!
