X270: How many memory slots?

Q: X270: How many memory slots?

I read somewhere that the X270 contains 2 RAM memory slots. However, now that I have the bottom cover off, I only see one slot. Is the other one hidden, or does the X270 only have 1 slot? I want to upgrade to 16 GB of RAM. Thanks

Preferred Solution: X270: How many memory slots?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: X270: How many memory slots?

I see that this has already been answered here:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Use-of-memory-slots-on-X270/m-p/4030656/highl... 16GB max / 2400MHz DDR4, one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket It has only 1 memory slot. (So beware because there is misleading information in many places stating that this laptop has 2 memory slots.)

Hi, I have checked by BELARC there are two memory slots in my X270. Currently I have 1 memory card (1 x 8GB) installed, can I use the second slot to increase  the RAM with another 8GB memory card ? I´ve heard that couldn´t do that, instead I should buy a 16GB card to replace the current one. Anybody can I help me ?

So let me start again First post here. I'm a programmer who doesn't meddle with pc parts. Well now has come the time!

I used the tool that Crucial provide on their website, which claims that my pc contains 2 pc133 slots and 1 pc100 slot (sdram).

It says I have max. capacity of 512mb. Will 2 256 pc133 sticks be ok? Or will performance default to pc100?

Also, what're the types of ram and will any other work with my pc? TIA.

When using Dual channel memory on a motherboard with 2 slots does
slot 1 become 1 & 3 while slot 2 becomes 2 & 4?

My friend in 2011 bought a new desktop by my recommendation and her card.
Acer Aspire AX3950-UR30P - i3 CPU - 4GB PC3 10700 RAM - Windows 7 64-bit
She called me about a link for her to order memory.
I went to my folder of purchased products webpages to look up specs, it said 4 slots total with 2 slots available
Went to Crucial to see if they might recommend 800MHz instead of 667MHz?
Both said it has 4 slots.
I downloaded & ran CPU-Z on her computer thru Logmein it said, slots 1 & 3 each have 2GB while 2 & 4 are empty
She ordered 4GB (2x2GB)
It arrived, she brought her computer over and guess what
Only 2 slots & 1 is empty.

Is this wrong or is my definition of dual channel memory wrong?

I have an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Rev. 2 motherboard that supports up to 3Gb of PC3200. I have three memory modules, 1 512Mb stick and 2 256Mb sticks; all of which are PC3200 and I know for a fact all of them operate just fine. The mobo itself has three memory slots, 2 blue slots (channel 0, I'm assuming) and one black slot (channel 1, I assume). As long as I only use the first two (blue) memory slots, all is well - and I can use whatever combination of memory modules I want.

The problem is this: As soon as I add the third memory module (using the black slot) my computer won't boot. Doesn't matter which memory stick I add to that third slot, the result is the same: I don't get anything. The monitor doesn't "wake up", my USB powered ZIP drive doesn't spin up (it normally does so for a few seconds when booting) I don't even POST code error-beeps.

As soon as I pull out the memory module from that third slot, my computer boots up normally again, and everthing is just fine.

What am I doing wrong?? I'd really like to have a full 1024Mb of RAM running. Preferably in dual-channel mode, which the motherboard supports.

All help appreciated!

A:Can't Use All Three Memory Slots?

Dual-channel memory operation requires that you have an even number of DIMMs, I'm not sure why the nForce has 3 slots. Your motherboard manual should tell you what memory configurations are supported.

Ok, i'm a bit confused and I'd greatly appreciate if anyone could be so kind to tell me the bits inside my laptop. I've taken a few pictures. I didn't get a manual with this laptop as it was bought overseas. I've had a look at the IBM website but I still can't quite make out what they are!

Model: IBM R31

I'm trying to upgrade my memory, not sure if there are any slots free? At the moment i've only got 128mb I think which is quite slow...according to this website

it says "Memory: Systems have standard system memory of 128MB or 256MB of 133MHz, non-parity, 64-bit SDRAM SO DIMM memory. This is expandable to a maximum of 1 GB with 128, 256, or 512MB SO DIMMS. There are two internal slots for memory modules, one for the 128MB or 256MB of standard memory and one for a memory upgrade. To obtain the maximum 1GB to which memory can be expanded, replace the 128 or 256MB card with a 512MB card and add another 512MB card in the extra slot."

and http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4NVU4N

..so i'm looking for any SDRAM SoDIMM ? ..and of these type would be compatible? Would upgrading actually make my laptop faster or is that to do with the speed (133mhz) ?

If anyone could tell me what the other slots are, that'd be fantastic! Thanks!!

I installed Speccy on my work desktop, and was browsing through it just for kicks and noticed something very odd. Under the RAM tab, it says I have -3 ram slots available? Everything works fine, there's no real problem, just curious as to why this says that? Any clues?

This is a HP Z400 workstation PC, and I don't really have the spec's under my info because it's not my main PC, just a work one, but I will post a pic of the mobo stats. Using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

What do you see on the HP Z 400 when you poke the RAM icon on the left side of Speccy?

My desktop shows

working on a Compac Presario model SR5510F with Vista 32 bit Home Edition installed for a friend. All of a sudden it will not boot, a momentary blue screen and it reboots. Safe mode, or Windows repair, nothing will get it to start. It has two 1GB memory chips, so I thought I'd try booting with only one chip in.
As soon as I did that it was fine, doesn't seem to matter which memory slot is in use, it did seem however that one of the memory chips was not as good.
It runs impossibly slow on 1GB so I had her buy a crucial memory upgrade, 2 - 2GB chips.
Now, I have the same problem again. The computer simply will not start with both memory slots in use.
There was a bios upgrade available, which I ran but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. `
Also, I did check the bios, with two chips in, the computer sees them, just refuses to boot. I wish it would stop long enough on the BSOD so I could see what it says.

Hi, I've recently received my new laptop which comes with a single 8Gb stick of SK Hynix 2133MHz memory. Although I don't have an immediate need, in the past, I've always looked to see how much an upgrade would cost by downloading and running, say, the Crucial scanner. However it isn't showing if there is an upgrade. It isn't clear whether the laptop comes with two memory slots or one. If anyone can advise, that would be great, and if anyone has upgraded to add another 8Gb, was it easy? I don't particularly want to take my new machine apart especially as it seems I would have to take several bits off to get at the memory unlike my older laptops which were under a single panel. Many thanks

Hi: Please refer to the service manual, chapter 1, page 2 for the models that have two memory slots. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05122688 The models with the Pentium/Celeron processors only have 1 memory slot.

I looked into your notebook service manual and found memory specs for 8gb sticks in the parts listing, stating you could use Micron MT16KTF1G64HZ 8gb 204-pin SODIMM PC3-12800 DDR3L sticks.  The memory you purchased appears to be 288 pin UDIMM desktop memory, rather than notebook memory.  I would advise to contact the seller and return the memory for the right notebook memory such as the micron I listed above.

Hi i was just wondering how do you know how many pins your memory slots are...because i was just looking at sticks of memory and i noticed they have 180/184/etc. pins...

so basically how do i know how many pins i have?

haha k thanks!

A:Pins on memory slots?

If you have a 286, 386 or early 486, you have 30pin 8bit SIMM slots.

If you have a later 486 or early Pentium/Pentium Pro/K5/K6, you have 72pin 32bit SIMM slots.

If you have a later Pentium, or Pentium 2/3, early Pentium 4 or early Athlon/Duron, you have 168pin 64bit SDRAM DIMM slots.

Some later Pentium 3s and early Pentium 4s have Rambus (RDRAM) slots, you don't have these.

Most machines these days have 184pin 64bit DDR SDRAM DIMM slots, some newer Pentium 4s have 240pin 64bit DDR2 DIMM slots (you don't have these).

I would guess that you have 168pin SDRAM DIMM slots in your machine, although you might have 184pin DDR SDRAM DIMM slots (unlikely). This means your machine takes PC133 SDRAM.

Hi: I updated my memory today and was wondering...what are the white slots for in a dc5700 SFF?Thanks, in advance. Carl

A:HP dc5700 SFF memory slots

Hi, Carl: I'm not quite sure what you mean...there are several white slots on the motherboard.  The ones that alternate black white, black, white are the memory slots.  You put the same amount of memory in the black slots and the same amount of memory in the white slots.  For example:  1 GB, 1 GB, 1 GB, 1 GB or 512 MB, 1 GB, 512 MB, 1 GB. The white slot with the 'tail' sticking out the back is a ADD2 card slot.  Basically there is only one video card that will work in that slot and it is the one I posted at the link below.   While the slot looks exactly like a PCIe x16 video card slot, it is not. http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/archives_Division/12008_div_v8/12008_div.PDF The other 2 white slots together on the left side of the motherboard are PCI slots.

Hello everybody, my first question here.
I bought a second-hand Precision T1650 Xeon E3 1240 with 8gb, 4x2gb.
I reinstalled Windows 7 with new drivers, bios etc...
And now the computer works with only 4gb. I checked the bios and it shows slots 3 & 4 empty. The 8gb were working the day before.
After many hours googling it, I found only unresolved questions, but I tried many things.
- I switched sticks 1 & 2 with 3 & 4. Same result (slots 3 & 4 empty) but it tells me every sticks is OK.
- I removed sticks from slots 1 & 2. The computer works with the 4gb on slots 3 & 4, I guess all the slots are OK two.
- I tried with 4x8gb sticks I have from another computer. With 32gb, the bios tells me 16gb available and slots 3 & 4 empty. So the cpu can handle at least 16gb.
- CPU-Z find the 4 sticks and all the memory that is set up.
- I checked MSConfig. No limitation.
- I read about issues with the cpu and fan. Took it off and back. Nothing seems to be wrong.
- I unplugged every pci and usb device to see if there was something wrong with the psu. Nothing.
- I reinstalled Windows and drivers a second time. Nothing.
- I tried older version of the bios. 2012, 2015 and back to 2017. Nothing.
Just can't find what I did wrong when I installed my new setup, and I just find on internet people who bought a new motherboard finally.
All my love and my gratitude to anyone who can help me.

Also in the Task Manager, it reports that I have used "2 of 2 slots", however I have 4 RAM slots inside the machine where the RAM is fitted (4 x 1GB fitted).

I built a computer a while back and it's been running mostly fine. I have a spontaneous rebooting problem and it points to a driver problem. But something has been bugging me.

When I built the machine, the MSI manual gave me three choices to install memory.

1. Two sticks in 1 and 3.
2. Two sticks in 2 and 4.
3. Four sticks in 1,2,3, and 4.

They also made sure that I knew to make sure I had a stick in the first slot. That kind of negated the second option.

I was going to send in this question to MSI but.......Holy S(*&!, Batman. What a questionnaire.

The general question is- Has anyone ever seen such a configuration for memory placement? I am using 1 and 3 slots and other than the restart issues, the machine is blazing fast.

A:MSI puts memory in strange slots

Yes. Your system probably supports dual-channel memory. Dual channel memory gets you a slight speed advantage. To avail yourself of this performance advantage, the memory sticks in slots 1 & 3 should match each other and the chips in 2 & 4 should match other.

To be clear, all slots do not require the same sticks so the sticks in 1 & 3 could be 256 Megs each and the chips in 2 & 4 could be 512 Megs each. Matching sizes isn't all that matters, though. They should also match as to type. So, if the stick in slot one is a two-wafer chip, you would also want a two-wafer stick in slot three.

The other memory slot is underneath the keyboard, you'll have to disassemble the unit a little to get to it.

Have a 14-ac608tu  and it came with 4GB RAM. Now I want to upgrade it to higher, perhaps 8gb or 16GB. How many slots does this system have and is there a tear-down sheet to know how to remove the back cover? There isn't any memory slot door, so its not easily accessible. It runs on Win10 home 64-bit and increasingly it has gotton slow due to the number of applications have been using and it runs out of memory really quickly. Cheers!  Soul

Alright, so I just got this new motherboard, an Asus P5GD1-VM, and I bought it understanding that it had 4 184 pin DDR DIMM slots. When I opened the user guide to see if there was anything I should know about limits on the memory, in a layout of the motherboard it said that they were 240 pin slots. but then in another section they were labled as 184 pin?!?!

so now im confused, and i need to order my ram. any help would be greatly apreciated.

Hi: Check chapter 1, page 4 of the Maintenance and Service Guide for your notebook for the memory upgrade info. https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-g6-1c00-notebook-pc-series/5145708/model/5165738/ma... I think they are wrong about the max being 6 GB though. No doubt you can install a 4 GB memory module in each slot for a total of 8 GB.

I have a Pegatron Violet6 motherboard. There are four memory slots, and I have four 4-GB sticks of RAM.
I've been having a lot of BSODs lately, so I decided to test my RAM again.

Putting in one stick at a time and running memtest86+ gives:
Slot 1: All four sticks test okay and show 666 MHz (1333 MHz and 9-9-9-24)
Slot 2: All four sticks test okay and show 666 MHz
Slot 3: All four sticks test okay and show 400 MHz
Slot 4: All four sticks test okay and show 200 MHz (7-7-7-20)

If I put RAM in slots 1 and 2 and run memtest, it shows 666 MHz. But if I put something in slots 1, 2, and 3, I get 533 MHz.

Is my MB failing, or is this normal behavior? I'm currently only running with RAM in slots 1 and 2...is this going to work for a while, or should I be ordering a new motherboard?

A:memtest86+ showing different speeds for memory slots

I have never experienced readings like that, and can only guess as to what would cause it.

I tried looking for a motherboard manual with no luck. I thought there might be something in the RAM section about the slots that might explain it.

Installing RAM in odd combinations will toggle between dual channel and single channel mode but that should not change the speed. So it does not sound like anything normal.

You could be having trouble with voltage going to the slots. But even then I can't think of why that would knock the speed down.

Try running CPU-Z and see what it gives for RAM stats in different combinations.
You could populate all the slots and test it first.

First of all,the Belarc advisor reported the following on my computer (its pasted too):
576 Megabytes Installed Memory

Slot 'A0' has 512 MB
Slot 'A1' has 128 MB
Slot 'A2' is Empty
Slot 'A3' is Empty
I installed the 512MB and the 128MB came with the
computer. I found only the 2 spots above to load

Is the Belarc advisor reporting incorrectly
that there are 4 slots for memory when there
is only 2? I looked closely and found only 2 slots
although its quite crowded inside the computer and
will look again in the morning.
any feedback?

A:Belarc reports 4 slots for memory,I only found 2

Hello everyone ,
First post here .

I recently bought a motherboard and a processor.
MB: Gigabyte GA-EP41-UD3L GA-EP41-UD3L (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview
CPU : E7400 (Freq:2.8Ghz , FSB 1066 , 3MB cache)

All fine here.
I had home 4x1GB DDR2 667MHZ M378T2953EZ3-CE6 .(Samsung)

In my motherboard i have 4 memorry slots.
If i use any of the those memory in slots 1 and 3 it works (having 2GB).
If i add in slot 2 and slot 4 the other 2 i cant use it , the computer simply enters in a reset loop.
I switch those 4 dimms in all ways and still nothing.only in 1 and 3.
Someone told me that the issue is that the MB was ment for 800Mhz not 667Mhz like my memory.
But if 2 works why not 4?
I made the Bios Update from F4 to F5 ..nothing.
Someone else sugested i should play with the memorry and put it lower the 667 and the computer might see all of these..tried that ...still nothing.
What is odd , is the fact that in Gigabyte memory list they have Samsung that works with DDR2 , 667Mhz but 4GB module.

If someone has an ideea (exept buying new memory ) what to do please tell me.

Thank you ,

A:Motherboard doesnt recognize all memory slots...

You could try updating the BIOS on that board. Gigabyte boards are easy to do. Sometimes they make them more compatible with more memory. It may help.

Otherwise, you might have bad memory or that board might have a bad slot. You could try booting it with one stick in each slot to see.

I ran across a old dell computer in a yard sale. It is a Dell 340 workstation.
I was hoping to rob it of some 2700 memory partsfor another pentium 4 dell
but after I got it home I found that it has PC800 memory parts. I guess I bought
the wrong machine here but that is what happens when you take a chance
at yard sales. When was these memory parts produced? This dell is a four slot machine
which only shows slots 1 & 2 working when I have all 4 slots full of menory. Does anyone know the history of this machine and this memory type? Does anyone know how to get all four of my memory chips working in this machine?
Thank you,
