Q: License error (0x00000040): Cached online license contents are corrupt.

Hi,
Our company buy almost 6 months ago the Microsoft Action Pack that includes Visual Studio 2013 with online login to Access the program. A few days ago I started having this error message and I cannot access the application anymore.
Any advice on how to fix this? I already contacted the MSDN support and they ask me to create a topic in this forum for help. Or they will have to ask me for small fee($$$) to resolve their problem.

Preferred Solution: License error (0x00000040): Cached online license contents are corrupt.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi folks,
I am working with a company (that I have actually worked with for over 10 years on a consulting basis) and we are auditing our Microsoft Windows Server and server product licenses and preparing to upgrade Windows Server products.  We have ran into a snag, where the former System Administrator left the company a few years ago, however it was understood that the information regarding the VLSC was transferred to another partner in the company.  A new Systems Administrator has taken over, and we have determined that we do not have this information, including a Microsoft account username and password to access the VLSC and our Windows Server 2008R2 product keys, license agreements, SKUs, and downloads.  Unfortunately, the situation became took a turn for the worse about three months ago when the partner that had this information passed away.  No one at the company has access to this login information.  I currently administer most of their licensing, and have access to their much of their licensing information, download, product keys, etc., but I am clearly missing some very important ones.  I called Microsoft and they were of no assistance.  Since I am an administrator on the network, I can create a mailbox that the VLSC was probably originally registered under, however the VLSC says that Microsoft account is not even valid, not even prompting for the password.
I have a mailbox on their Exchange Server for their domain to prove I am ass... Read more

Hello,

This machine is a very common model in my environment and I have done many fresh windows installations using the OEM license key without issue. however, on this particular machine, it reports it cannot activate because it cannot contact the KMS for activation.
Again, to clarify, this is the OEM product key that has been automatically pulled over from UEFI and NOT a MAK/KMS key.

I've run diagnostics as typically requested for this type of issue and can provide any additional information you might need. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi
I am running Win8.1 Home on my laptop.  I have access to a Win8.1 Pro (volume license) through my university.

My question is - how do I do the upgrade, keeping all my data and system settings intact?
(I have looked at the info online, and the closest I have come to an answer is 'you need media, this cannot be done through the online Store'.  I have an <Win8.1-Pro-x64 .ISO> disc, is this sufficient?)

Thanks for any pointers.

I have AVG 9 (not free), upgraded from 8.5 a few weeks ago. On Dec. 6 it stopped working - even though my license doesn't expire until Dec. 6, 2010, the license is now shown as expired. Reactivating it doesn't help, copying and pasting from the email I received does nothing.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, the license is still showing as expired.

I've gotten no response from AVG at all. Can anyone suggest the next step?

Hi,
This is a very quick and probably easy question.
I am offering regular KMS client servers, so the customer do not need to do any licensing as it will just happen out of the box.
BUT, we also want to offer a Bring Your Own license option, so the end customer can insert their own key.
So,I understand how to change the keys on our Windows Servers, and I wonder whether this builds will accept any OEM key as a replacement for the default KMS client one or not?

Many thanks.

Ever since I started running Win8 about six months ago, I've had several instances of corrupted tasks. The one task that keeps getting screwed up is License Validation under Task Scheduler LibraryMicrosoft\Windows\WS (it's superhidden; you won't be able to see it there, even if you have the option to show hidden tasks enabled).

Each time I had a corrupt task, I was able to resolve the problem by grabbing a clean copy of the task from my Win8 disc, then adding an .XML extension and importing it.

Now that I've updated to Win8.1, the task from my Win8 disc is invalid. I've compared the two, and they're quite different.

The error I'm getting is:

Task License Validation: The task XML contains a value which is incorrectly formatted or out of range.

When I try re-importing* this task, I get this error:

The format of the task is not valid. The following error was reported: (40,26)uration:PT0S

Line 40 of the task XML shows this:

<Duration>PT0S</Duration>

What should this line say?

Could someone please provide me with a non-corrupt copy of "C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\WS\License Validation", or tell me what else I can do?

* Copying, deleting, adding .XML extension, then importing back in.

A:Need non-corrupt copy of "License Validation" task

I don't see the line on my file.

I had two Tasks Missing earlier. One, like you, in the WS and another one in the SoftwareProtectionPlatform. I do not know what caused it, but I ended up exporting the Tasks from Task Scheduler on another system and importing them into the current install.

When I try to play this music I get an error message that says I do not have a license to play the old music (error code 274B).

I have tried to locate the licenses on the F: drive with no success. The music is "legal" and I no longer can find the original CD's to reinstall them.

How do I resolve this problem??

On backing up MSN Music licenses from http://www.corti.com/weblogsascha/ca...spx/Technology

Quote:

Jake recently asked me if the MSN Music service could be used as a replacement for the "license back-up" function of the Windows Media Player - as licenses for purchased music can be re-downloaded from the MSN Music service. My answer was that both work - with proves to be inaccurate. Thanks, Jake for the update:

<quoted from MSN Music support mail>
Please note that the licenses of MSN Music content cannot be backed up. If you wish to verify this, please perform the following steps:

1. Open Windows Media Player .
2. Go to the MSN Music library .
3. Right-click one of the MSN Music files.
4. Click 'Properties' then the 'License' tab. Please check the license details of the file.

There is no need to worry, Jake. The licenses can be downloaded from the server. All you need to do is play the MSN Music content, sign in to the MSN Music service when prompted to do so, and then click 'I own this song' to initiate the download. You can do this after you've restored your PC. Please make sure, though, that before you attempt to download the licenses, the computer is properly configured for MSN Music.

I have been using virtual box for about 6 months now and it has given me many problems I have been able to fix until now.
There have been other problems other than this but those are for another time.
Every month windows xp would say that I have 30 days to activate windows.
By the end of the 30 days I would be trapped in this endless loop of it telling me that the 30 day period was up and to activate it now. Then if I said yes it would say windows is already activated, bringing me back to the login screen thus beginning the endless cycle again.
I ended up having to every month having to go into safe mode, type in command prompt
regsvr32 regwizc.dll
regsvr32 licdll.dll
rundll32.exe syssetup, SetupOobeBnk

And then that would reset the licensing system or something and I would be ok for another month
For some reason this month it shows something different. It shows:
A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the status of the license for this computer. To proceed you copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft.
Do you want to activate Windows now?

Then it gives me the endless loop except this time running the 3 commands into safe mode command prompt doesn't fix it.
Also note that I had recently switched computers as one died and transferred over the virtual box files to virtual box on the new computer.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

G'Day Darkfox,

Try powering up the computer from a 'Cold Start', while continually tapping the F8 Key.
In the "Safe Mode" Menu select the option "Last Known Good Configuration", and follow the on-screen prompts.

If this method fails, repeat the procedure to get you into Safe Mode, and use the in-built System Restore feature to restore the computer back to a time/date before you fiddled with the Registry.

Post back with the outcome.

The computer I am having an issue with is running Windows 7 32bit. It is up to date. When trying to turn queries in Excel 2010 it gets an ODBC License Unhanded Error. The same file works in Excel 2000. I will attach the screen shots of the errors. Other testing I have done is put excel 2010 on an XP computer, and it worked there. I put it on another windows 7 computer that has a fresh install, and it still doesn't work.

Not sure where to look now or what is going on with these errors searched online and couldn't find anything.

When you installed the driver, did you remember to right-click and "Run As Administrator" to elevate your privileges?

Windows 7 uses the UAC (User Access Control) and user applications, including the Windows Shell, are then started with a restricted token, resulting in a reduced privilege environment even under an Administrator account. When an application requests higher privileges or "Run as administrator" is clicked, UAC will prompt for confirmation and, if consent is given, start the process using the unrestricted token.[5]

Running with restricted tokens can result in the registry not being properly updated during installation.

You might even try running Excel "As Administrator" and see if that works.

If it does, you probably need to re-install your driver.

I have an HP IMC Basic 50 node edition software installed from last summer and a valid paid license and it has been working fine for 9 months.  It is installed on a virtual server Win2008R2 Std. and my hunch is that the MAC for the physical server is tied somehow to the license code.  I moved this virtual a couple of months ago to another physical 2012R2 server, and the virtual server has not been restarted since.  So, after an extended power outage, where I had to shutdown the physical before the UPS went caput, I booted it up, and all appears well, but when I use IE to get back into IMC, I get the Invalid license error code:50904.  It appears possibly my license or something has gotten whack?  The license file appears fine, but it's obviously not liking things.  I went through the steps to download a new license and try again, but to no avail.  Does anyone know who I can contact or how I can get a license that will work.  When I go to HPE site, it says regular HP support helps for IMC.  I can't seem to find a number or contact at HP that will get me where I need to be.  If you know of a way to get help, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you,  ToneWalker

Assuming y your COA sticker is for Windows 7 Home Premium, use the link at teh bottom of the System properties page to change the Key to the one on your sticker and you should be OK.

I have tried to google this, but I haven't gotten any helpful answers. Also, if I even try to register any of the Batch's DLLs manually, I get this error:

Banner: RegSvr32
body: The Module "C:\Bla Bla Bla...." was loaded but the call to "INSERT DLL HERE" failed with error code 0x80028011c.

For more information about this problem, search online using the error code as a search term.

Any and all help appreciated!

Thanks,
Matt

Hello, I can't log into Windows XP Pro. When I try. I receive the following message:

Windows Product Activiation:
A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for
this computer. Error code 0X800700C1

I CAN'T boot into "safe mode" either (all of the solutions to this problem I have found online assume I can boot in safe mode). When I try, the "safe mode" window appears. However, inside of it a window that says "USERINIT.EXE" is open and rapidly scrolling as if it where in an infinite loop.

Is there some way I can use the "Recovery Console" to delete a file and perhaps force a "Repair Install"? Would a "Repair Install" possibly fix this? I'm really in a bad situation here. Can anyone help me?

Sincerest of thanks, -Rob

Hi, First time poster here. I am just recently having issues with my computer saying windows it not genuine. I found this forum through another thread of a person who had basically the exact same issues as I did here: Windows Genuine and Activation Issue

I too bought this PC originally from best buy or some place, and it came with no windows CD or anything. I went 2 years without formatting, finally I got sick of it and when I installed my new SSD I finally had to do it. The best advice I found was doing the same as OP, downloading the copy of windows from digital rivers and entering in my windows key(which I had lost as well but recovered using one of the software tools).

I installed windows about 4-5 weeks ago, I have rebooted many times since and only in the last day did it start giving me this same windows it not genuine error. Upon trying to validate my key it will error out, and I get the same

code:
0xc004F063
the software licensing service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license

How can I take this key from the side of my computer case and make windows genuine again? Someone in another post I found said something about a command "wmic bios get serialnumber" and thats the same exact number that comes up thats on the side of my case. Is this the right one, or should I be looking inside the case for ANOTHER key that fits the windows key length? The key off the side of my machine is only about 10 digits and I am un sure ... A:Windows not Genuine, Validating gives error 0xc004F063 Bios license

Sorry for posting in haste without taking the time to properly look over everything. I found ANOTHER sticker which had the proper key further back on my computer base that was listed as win7 home premium OA HP with a totally different windows key which I just entered via the system change product key and it authenticated as genuine. Big thank you to this community for the knowledge that was already right in front of my face!

For others having this issue, Hopefully your sticker is still intact and readable. If you are getting this same issue, Just find the sticker on your computer or laptop(apparently laptop fades WAY quicker if not covered up by something to make it more long lasting) and enter the OA key that looks exactly like windows key into the change product key option on System.

Deploying a Windows 8.1 Enterprise image on Dell Venue 11 (5130 atom version)
Created an UEFI FAT32 USB drive (http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US)
I replaced sources\install.wim with a customized Windows 8.1 image.
The customized image is 4,6GB large so i had to split it into 2 .swm files because of the FAT32 4GB limitation.
Setup is starting and when i want to install, the following error occured and i have to cancel the installation.
"Windows cannot find the Microsoft Software License Terms.  Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation"
is there a file which points to the license terms that i can modify or something like that??

A:Windows 8.1 install from USB with multiple swm files license terms error

Hi MartinOtter,
Windows 8 and 8.1 Setup does not support split .wim files, so this might have been the original problem. The TechNet article "Split a Windows Image (.swm) File to Span Across Multiple DVDs"
has this note:
In Windows 8.1 and Windows 8, Windows Setup does not support installing a split .wim file.
And later it states:

You can apply the file to your destination computers only by using the /Apply-Image option in the DISM tool.

If you are still having issues with this deployment while using a .wim that isn't split, can you
check the log files?

Hope this helps,
David

I am getting "Microsoft Office Professional 2010 cannot verify the license for this product. You should repair the Office program by using Control Panel." error this morning after booting up the system.

There was a MSFT update that ran last night, and I'm suspicious of it being the trigger of the error.

I have tried the "repair" option for MSO 2010, and have also re-entered the "key", to no avail.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any other ideas?

Hi there, welcome to the board!

Have you tried uninstalling the update? Do so from the Control Panel. There's a button which will toggle showing updates. I'm not aware of any updates which will do this though. I'd start there, maybe trying to open in safe mode, but that seems like a stretch.

I am a consultant just finished installing 8 PCs at a community funded job search centre, and one PC (I think) being compromised by potential 'hecker'.
PCs are IBM P4, running XPP. I created a limited permission Visitor account to use.
One of the 8 PCs are having problem with 'A' floppy drive, once someone finished using the drive (saved a resume file), removed the disk, another person can directly go to Open 'A' (even with no disk or another new disk) and see all the file names from the 1st disk, and even able to OPEN the document contents, BUT not edit/change/save though (Yes, with no disk in drive!)

I saw it with my own eyes, with my own disk! I even did the simple DIR in Command prompt screen.... as long as I DIR on the 1st disk, then remove, put in a 2nd disk, I can DIR and see file names from the 1st disk.

Somehow some kind of disk cache operation has been activated... pls help me to debug this problem because the job serch clients ARE NOT happy with the facility right at this moment!

Also, is there a Registry ENtry I can modify to stop teh system keep 'seeking' the floppy drive when no disk is in it (this is particularly annoying when the time of System SHutDown time!)

Many thks in advance.

We just bought a computer with Windows 98 and Office 97 Professional pre installed. It has Access 97 on there and It gives me "no license" error. So I went to MS website and downloaded the Aclicn97.exe installed it and still no dice. Tried to do the rename font thing and it didn't work. Since if you go to add/remove programs and want to remove something from office it thinks you want to add it all the time so I can't uninstall.
So I just bought a copy of Access 97 by itself so I tried to install that it said couldn't find ODBCSTF.DLL on the CD. Any ideas on what I can do besides a big DO OVER?

A:Access 97: "No License" Error

Hi MN, welcome. Sounds like you've already tried what this article suggests:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q158/6/58

In any case, you should return the Access CD, won't help out; you can't install component-by-component over the top of a 97 complete install.

Do you have the Office 97 Pro CD, by the way? You should, of course. And can you give us some details about your machine, brand etc.? And have you tried their customer support line to see if they have a fix? Since it's a new machine, they may have some experience with the specific problem...

As you've perhaps seen from the access Error post on this forum, we're a little stumped... Though I swear I've never seen this before. Maybe it's an airborne MS virus?

Keep us posted.

Q: license

The license cannot be downloaded because your Web browser is not supported.
To download a license, you must install Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or later. To install the latest version of Internet Explorer, see the
windows update page .    does this mean i cant get it with any other browser  ?, because plain and simple the problems i have had with internet explorer I will never
download that again, the same goes with WMP I try playing music and it tells me my library is corrupt so I cleared it and re-loaded it same problem. and so I now use foobar2000, VLC JRiver, and media monkey depending on what I am playing and what format and
have never had a problem with any of them

Recently during BIOS upgrade my Windows 8.1 installation for Aspire E5-411G-P717 notebook was damaged and recovery would not be allowed because the windows install partition was blocked. So, I resorted to the only known way to recover by using GPARTED to delete the partitions and doing a fresh Win8.1 reinstall. Windows 8.1 now asks me to update the license key but the computer never came with a sticker with a license key. So, I'd like Acer's help with this. I contacted Acer outlet at Amazon (the seller) for help but they don't keep any such information.

So, I'm stuck - I paid for the win8.1 x64 license when I purchased my computer but now I don't have the license key to register the windows with Microsoft and use it fully because some Win8.1 features are only available after it's registered.

How can Acer help? I'm sure I'm not the first customer with this issue given that Acer has had BIOS upgrade issues (I've been following the forums on Acer) and Acer does not provide Win8.1 license info on a sticker like it used to be.

Thanks in advance for your help. I cna provide Serial# and any other details as well as proof of purchase if needed to track my device. I bought it 5 weeks back from Amazon with Acer outlet as the seller (my notebook was sold as refurbished).

A:Need license key

No machine released with Windows 8 from vendor will come with a Windows 8 License sticker underneath, regardless of the brand. This is one of  Microsoft's security measures to reduce piracy. This is a new Microsoft initiative.  The Product key is electronically stored in the firmware of your mainboard. So if you need to reset or reinstall Windows 8, you don't need to hunt for the product key. It's automatically applied and activated. That's certainly a plus, especially when the numbers on those product key stickers wear out or are just too small to easily read.  You need to get the recovery media and restore the same OEM version of windows shipped wiht your computer to activate windows without product key.  Click the Kudos to say ?Thanks? for helping! select "Accept Solution" if your issue is resovled.

Hi everyone,
Can i still use my license after i used it 3 times?
I used it on the same computer & onetime i had to call Microsoft to activate it again.
My question is, can i reinstall windows again and do i have to call Microsoft again?
The license goes to windows 7 profession 64bit.

A:too much license

On the same machine, the license can be reinstalled infinite number of times. You may have trouble activating online if theres been a significant hardware change, in that case activate by phone.

If this is an OEM license, mobo change will make it illegal to use the license on the new mobo.

A recent thread on Sevenforums got me thinking. Why does Microsoft say in their license terms that you can't use an OEM license for personal use, but they sell it through third parties (Amazon and Newegg) and they know that ordinary people are going to buy these OEM copies. If Windows Activation goes through with it then it must be fine, right?
Also, I kind of mentioned this already, but why would they sell it through third parties if they CLEARLY know that any average personcould come across it and buy it. It doesn't say anywhere on Amazon's product description page that I have to sell it to a third party. Only in Microsoft's long EULA.

A:OEM License

The OEM Windows 7 sold through third parties is intended for builders who are building a PC for sale to another person. The EULA for OEM Windows 7 states pretty clearly that the OEM version is intended for the installed sale on a PC to another party, and not for personal use.

So legally/technically, even though it will activate, it's not fine; it's contrary to the EULA.

Questions:

Can I use the same upgrade disk and/or activation number I used for the desktop? (I got a feeling the answer is "yes" to the disk, "no" to the activation license...)

Is there a way to purchase a second activation license number, or do I need to order a whole new OS?

You can buy a family license for up to three PCs.

You can read up on it here.

I am almost finished building my new gaming rig. I need to get a copy of XP Pro. I currently have an OEM version of XP Pro on my one machine. I know I won't be able to install it on my new machince since I have already used the activation code.

What is the least expensive way for me to LEGALLY put a new copy of XP on my new box?

Can I simply buy an activation code? Do I NEED a COA? (Is the Lisence and the COA the same thing?)

I'm been searching the internet and there are SOOOO many choices besides the basic OEM and RETAIL. I really don't need another CD do I?

Here's one link I found. Is this all I need? If so, anyone find it cheaper?

IS this link LEGIT? XP Pro AND OFfice for $80.00?

Is the other computer still using that cd-key of windows? It is completely legal to change the computer. I've done it multiple times. You will have to call up microsoft and tell them what you're doing, but they will let you do it.
