internet explorer freezes when i click a file to upload

Q: internet explorer freezes when i click a file to upload

Please help me. In my email browser, for instance when trying to upload a file to send, i click on the picture or video and everything freezes. Same thing happens when attempting to upload a video for google video or youtube or anything. I select 'browse' then click on the file i want then click 'open' and my browser just freezes. (hangs) I eventually have to end the task. I've done every disk check, defragment, virus adware scan that i know of and I still can't fix the problem.

Preferred Solution: internet explorer freezes when i click a file to upload

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, a day or two ago I've had a problem where if I right click on a file or folder (any type) the wheel will turn up but won't load. Usually it will cause the explorer to crash. I am still able to view the video or music file at this time but right clicking will not work. At first i thought this was caused by iTunes as that won't open up either. However, upon restarting it will work just fine. I am able to right click and also open iTunes. I have figured out this may be caused after I wake my computer up from sleeping or hibernating. I have tested this out multiple times and it happens all the time. When i try to log out or shut down (or simply restart also) the wheel keeps spinning while saying Shutting down. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but I just wanted to include it as this is started to happen at the same time. I'm not really certain whats causing this after waking my computer up. I hope I explained this clearly but if I haven't please let me know. I'm on a 64 bit, Windows 7 computer.

When I right click on a file in Windows Explorer (Vista Ultimate) the hour glass appears and after a while the Explorer window turns grayish. If I minimize it I can continue to work, even activate another Windows Explorer window. But if I attempt to close the grayed window the screen turns blue (Not the "window of death", and there are no error messages) and my desk top is lost. I can three finger salute, raising the task manager which tells me nothing is running, and I have to restart or shut down!

I have a Toshiba Satellite A205, running VIsta Ultimate, 4 GB ram, etc., etc.

I tried to do a search on this Forum but had trouble and could do nothing, so I write this note.

Thanks for any help.

A:Right click on file windows explorer freezes

Hello Pete Diebenow

I think this might be caused by a bad context menu handler. A context menu handler is a shell extension handler that adds commands to an existing context menu (Example: cut, copy, paste, print, Scan with Norton etc).

Download ShellExView and run it.

It will scan the registry for all the shell extensions. Once the scan is over and the list is displayed, you need to spot the context menu handlers. Sort the results using "Type", so that the context menu handlers are displayed together.

General rule here is to disable non-Microsoft context menu handlers *one-by-one* and verify if the problem is solved. If disabling one does not solve the problem, undo the disabled item and disable the next non-Microsoft handler. Do the same until the problem is solved and finally identify the culprit. Scroll right to see the Company Name column in ShellExView.

You can disable them ...they say "one at a time" and see what effect it has on the problem. You can do it a lot quicker by bisecting the list, disabling half of the entries in one fell swoop, rebooting and trying the right click. You just have to narrow it down. Then keep bisecting the list until it is just a few and do these one at a time. The problem is that you have to reboot between tries to get accurate testing of the results of your disabling.

The latest version of ShellExView marks all the non-Microsoft extensions in Pink for easy identification. All other types of shell e... Read more

We are encountering this issue precisely as described in this IE10 KB
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2980019 except on IE11 (using Kerberos).  The code in question has been working for years on IE7 and 9; this is a corporate deployment recently switched to IE11.

Scenario: a standard form  (enctype="multipart/form-data"
method="post") pushed with an
ajax submit. The form is unexceptional, with an

a couple of other elements. Intermittently when submitting this form, it just hangs forever.

The only workaround I have found is to precede the POST with a HEAD request (a GET also works) in order to defend against the 401. Be great if there was a fix for it - anyone else experiencing the same?

Recently, my company started working with a company where they wanted to redirect from an internal Intranet Kiosk site to a publicly available application site. The site apparently (due to lack of something) does NOT have the ability to remove any File Upload
links when coming from the Kiosk URL.  The Kiosk computers are running Windows 7 Pro with various GPOs and registry keys locking them down to using Internet Explorer in Kiosk mode replacing the explorer.exe on the user account. The problem is we have
not been able to find a way to Disable "Choose File to Upload" dialogs in Internet Explorer 11. This seems like it should be a pretty straight forward option as you can disable File Downloads using GPOs but apparently disabling File Uploads isn't
something commonly done.
A number of blocks are in place, but there is always the fun the user could have of uploading files by using their Environmental Variables (Example: %WINDIR%\win.ini) that we would like to avoid.  In fact, I'd like to avoid any dialog to avoid any issues
with seeing Libraries or Desktop folder paths.
Given Kiosk Mode for Internet Explorer has been an age old feature, I'm amazed disabling "File Upload" isn't some default option when you set in Kiosk Mode.
Please assist!  Thanks!

So I am running Windows Vista 64-Bit, and just recently, whenever I try and browse for a picture to attach to a email or upload to a blog, the browse window freezes, and I have to close internet explorer.

I tried uploading other files, such as music, and that works fine. However, as soon as I click browse, then pictures, and I scroll my cursor over to click on a folder, it freezes. Any advice?

I'd appreciate it if anyone can help solve this problem.

When I left click or right click on an MP4 file, Windows Explorer encounters a problem and needs to close.
Explorer closes and restarts. If the MP4 was left clicked, Real Player will start and play the file. If the MP4 was right clicked, right click menu will open and error window will open immediately after.

The error report shows:
Error signature
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.5512 ModName: quicktime.qts
ModVer: Offset: 002d12b5

This problem started today, after I tried to copy a folder containing MP4 files while viewing one of the MP4 files in the folder. Yeah, I know....I remain my own worst enemy.

Anytime i try and upload something to a site like craigslist, facebook, imgur, etc nothing happens when i click the "browse" button to choose a file. It'll act like its about to open but it never does.
This happens in all browsers, Chrome, firefox and IE.
This also comes with youtube videos not playing correctly or crashing after a few seconds or not playing at all. So flash probably has something to do with it.
I already tried uninstalling/reinstalling flash/java/all browsers, updating all browsers, windows and flash. I tried the beta version of flash which worked slightly better but still not really.
I'm out of things to try. any suggestions would be great

I'm using Windows 8.1 and whenever I right click to get the open with/new/extract/etc context menu, explorer (not my computer) would freeze for anywhere between 5-15 seconds, the cursor would become the spinning loading icon and at the top it would say "windows explorer (not responding)". Explorer does not crash. The problem would temporarily go away if after freezing, I right click again within a few minutes, i.e. the next time I right click, it would load the context menu immediately. But after a few hours, the problem would come back again. Restarting computer does the same thing, fixes the problem but comes back in a few hours.

Anyone know what might be causing this? My computer seems to generally slow down after running for a while, eg takes 2-3 seconds for start menu to appear (I installed start menu as an add-on since 8.1 doesn't have it), takes a few seconds to get any menu from task bar to appear, etc.

Do you have a laptop?

Sounds to me like aggressive power saving management on the hard drive.
Next time you click and it freezes, do you hear your hard disk switch on and begin spinning?

Check your advanced power settings in control panel. Check what amount of time you've set your hard disk to shut off after. If it is set to something lower than about 5 minutes, you should increase it to 10 or 15. While this uses little bit more power, it makes using the computer a lot nicer, and also saves your hard disk from wearing out early.

I had a disk fail completely after a few thousand spinups. Same model disk with only about 200 spinups but over 8 years powered on hours still works like a champ.

Also have you ran SFC /scannow on the computer, if not give that a try also.

Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer. One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan. You have a very severely infected system -- likely because of the lack of antivirus & firewall software. This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? When Should I Format, How Should I ReinstallWe can clean this machine but I cannot guarantee it will be 100% secure afterwards. Good morning,

I'm having a problem where a user at my firm is encountering a small issue when uploading documents through web applications on Internet Explorer. When he uploads files, the explorer window that appears (for file upload) usually sorts his files alphabetically by default. When he right-clicks and sorts his file view by Date Modified, this setting does not stick/save upon his next file upload, where it sets back to "sort-by-name". His Windows Explorer settings have no issues, where his folder view settings are saved and do not change. These settings, however, do not push through to the Internet Explorer explorer windows used when uploading/downloading.

Although this issue seems petty, it supposedly sets him back in his work when he has to keep resorting his file view through Internet Explorer. Any thoughts and/or assistance in the above issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to those who can help.

I downloaded "Smart Popup Killer" and every since then everytime I click a link that has to open in a new window or a popup comes up, my internet freezes. I've tried deleting the program, still didn't fix it. Is there some kind of corruption in a file somewhere? Can someone please help me out?!

A:Internet Freezes when I click a page that opens in a new window

I'm not familiar with the program, but usually a program will have an 'uninstall' file which is reached through the AddRemove Programs in Control Panel. If you just delete a program, some files are left in your system.

Try to install the program again; then go through proper avenue to uninstall (not delete). If nothing is shown in AddRemove Programs, look in the Popup file for a file labeled 'unwise' or 'uninstall'

This is the first issue i have had with windows 10 ever since installing it in august. Ever since yesterday whenever i click on a file in the file explorer window it will gray out and stop working. Unlike the average hang this one will stay grayed out for about 5 to 10 seconds, my screen will go black for about half a second and than everything will be back to normal. I am thinking that this could be a virus but i have run a scan 2 times and nothing showed up. Other than the file explorer not working everything is fine. This is really weird since it only started yesterday and i have never had any issues like this in the 4 years that i have had my computer.

A:file explorer crashes when i right click

Did you install any new program recently ? Some third party programs might have installed incompatible Shell Extension that would cause Explorer to hang, crash etc...

i have not found any solution for this even though there seem to be several similar postings before, so here goes. All this happens on Win2k before and after installing SP4.

Whenever i open an explorer and right click on a file, it will terminate all open explorers as well as take down my launch bar (which will subsequently be rebuilt though). What i want to do is to delete a file, and it does not work with pressing delete either (same effect). But, as i said, the whole conext menu wont open. I am not really aware of newly installed programs, could be wrong on that one though. Couldnt find where to manipulate registry. Any input on this one very welcome.

Btw, i can right click on folders. Just not on files. wierd, isnt it? 8^)

Can someone help me ?

A:Right click a file = explorer crash

Any system restore points before this happened ? Revert changes made from utility program, could be due to a shell extension software puts in your context menu when you right click. CCleaner can check extensions if have it, if not CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
Go to Tools menu, startup at top select Context Menu see what is in the list, select and disable any third party extensions.
Most of time reason for this when you right click and explorer crashes it's due to a shell extension.

I'm so frustrated.  Whenever I get an e-mail that has a link in it to the internet, I get the following error message:
                   Windows can't open file:
                   File:  ?hs=false&tok=02K3p2sCy-9m81
Then, it takes me to a menu that says I have to select one of about 10 programs to open the link in.  Of course I choose the Internet Explorer link.  It then opens the link as normal.  I'm operating Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11.  I think it's a Windows problem because it started happening when I downloaded some freeware.  When I downloaded the software, it started installing all kinds of other programs on my computer.  I went into my Programs and Features and uninstalled everything I thought it had installed.  I must have deleted something I shouldn't have.  Please help!  Thank you!

Hello everyone!

I'm loving the new Windows 10! But this problem is really bugging me.

Whenever I right-click a file anywhere on the Desktop, the File Explorer crashes briefly and then comes right back up. This does not happen anywhere else, only on the Desktop.

I tried going to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/*/shellex/ContextMenuHandlers" with RegEdit and removing some of them, but to no avail.

Anything to point me in the right direction or any suggestions?
Thank you in advance!

I have recently installed SP2 on XP and installed plenty of new spyware progs and AVG anti-virus.

Since installing the service pack I have been unable to right-click on any file in Windows explorer , the window freezes and just disappears.
I usually get a DrWatson debugger window after this happens, I have read up about this and cant get a fix. My scans come back with nothing.
I have removed any s/w I wasnt using
I ran registry cleanup programs

There is one thing I am unable to remove from add/remove programs OR delete from file system and that is a folder called ebates_moemoney_maker. I tried removing it from cmd window but I didnt have the permissions. In add/remove programs window it does not show any properties like size etc and when I click on remove it does nothing. The spyware programs pick it up but never delete it . I am unsure whether this has anything to do with my problem with Windows explorer but would like to get it sorted

Hello whenever I right-click on an item in my file explorer I receive this message.

whenever i click on an audio or video file, i get an error message which says, "explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. you will need to restart the program. an error log is being generated."

i can still play these files if i first open a player and then open the file from within the player. the big problem is, i can't move, delete, or rename any audio or video files, because merely clicking on them generates the error and closes windows explorer.

i have done major research on the internet and can find nothing to fix this problem. somebody told me it was probably caused by a bad codec, so i uninstalled/deleted every codec i could find on my computer, still to no avail.

a further obstacle to solving the problem: the business here in town, who built and sold me my computer, failed to give me the win2000 install disk, and when i called them they insisted that yes they had given me an install disk, even though they really hadn't, and refused to give me one. now i know to do business elsewhere from now on, but unfortunately i don't have a win2000 install disk to use to repair any files.

if anybody knows anything that could help me with this extremely persistent and frustrating problem, i would greatly appreciate it (i want to avoid having to wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows, for obvious reasons).

A:click on media file, win explorer shuts down

My guess is that whatever player program you have associated to open these files has a problem.

As soon as you click on one of the files the association is attempted and all fails.

Re-associate the files to a different player (Windows Explorer - Tools - Folder Options (assuming 2k is similar to XP)

But you are sitting on a time-bomb with no Windows disk. You will need it sooner rather than later so you must resolve that. If your Windows version was OEM, they will have to have fitted the COA sticker on the case (to comply with MS license). If you have the CD Key from that sticker, try a call to MS and explain to them. If they have pirated the copy, you may get a free one, they may get some strife.

As it says, if I open a folder and r/click any file (to send it to another disk), I get a message saying that Explorer has stopped working and then it is restarting. This happens every time I try this. It restarts OK every time but never tells me why it crashed.
When I go to do a System restore, it cannot complete the restore as it says a file cannot be accessed and that maybe an Anti-virus is running. I have disabled A/V and Firewall, both in Norton Internet Security which I only installed yesterday. All was working OK until later today, when I noticed that Windows 7 had installed 3 critical updates and I'm thinking that one or both are the cause?
These were KB973924 x 2 and KB972696.
Hope someone can help with this please!

A:Right click on file in desktop-Explorer crashes!

First open command promt (Start>all programs>accesories>command promt or Windows key+R and tpe CMD and hit enter)

Download CC Cleaner and remove Norton
CCleaner - Download

If that doesnt work.then type sfc/ scannow
This will try to repair windows files,i.e explorer.

If that says it found no problems, try a repair install to re-install missing or corrupted files of windows, this wont effect your data.
