Preferred Solution: how to install "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable" correctly?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Would it be ''safe'' to uninstall-''older'' Microsoft visual C redistributable updates,
while maintaining the ''newer'' updates at  the windows 7 programs & features page,
to (save) desired disk space.

A:Uninstalling "older'' Microsoft visual C++ redistributable updates.

Hi,

Why do you want to remove this update? For more disk space? You can delete IE temporary files or system temporary files to save disk space, or move the large program
 to other drive.

The Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package installs runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries required to run applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that
does not have Visual C++ 2010 installed.

This package installs runtime components of C Runtime (CRT), Standard C++, ATL, MFC, OpenMP and MSDIA libraries.

If you don’t use visual c++, you can remove it.

I am trying to install some software. The installation goes smoothly until the last minute, when the installer tries to install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable". This also works, but at the last minute it hangs with one second left to go, thus preventing me from installing the software at all. An error then pops up, saying: "Error 1935. Hi guys, first off I haven't been here for help in years literally this was the first place I thought of because a few years ago many generous people helped me solve my problem, this place is awesome. Please pardon me as I am only decently literate with computers but try my best.

Ok I am trying to solve an annoying problem for my parent's computer. My dad was typing a normal document in Microsoft Word (OS is XP with System Pack 2, and it is Word 2002) and he said that just yesterday for the first time, after typing for maybe a half hour, a window would pop up with a "runtime error" and it would freeze untill he clicked ok on it, and it would then shut down loosing all his work that he didn't save.

So I got on the computer and opened Microsoft Word, and was able to duplicate the problem time after time but not every single time. When I simply open word, then click to close Word, the box appears, and he verified it is the same box he saw. It says exactly as follows, no more, no less, and every time reads the same -

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\WINWORD.EXE
abnormal program termination

So I tried to research it, and came across a fix on Microsoft's support site saying remove something called COM Add-ins. I did so by following each step removing the one COM add in i found, and it did not resolve the problem at all. It still errors out. SO I grabbed the master disk and un... Read more

Dear tech gods, please answer my humble prayer.

I'm currently running Windows XP SP2 on a Dell Inspiron D530S. Nearly four days ago, I began to get the following error message right after I started up my computer:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Program: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe
abnormal program termination
[okay]

(sometimes it says more, but that's the jist of it)

I've also gotten alerts saying that the following have crashed and need to close (and if I want to sent an error report to Dell):
dsca.exe
d13a.exe
windows explorer
launcher.exe (for Dell Documentation and Support Launcher)

It all started after my computer got the latest batch of updates (which included IE8). I was trying to connect a new modem. There was a Verizon disk involved as well. A day or two before the problem first arose, I would turn on the computer, click Firefox, and wait forever because the program wouldn't open.

I've tried everything I've read up on in threads of people with similar problems:

-Running a virus/spyware scan. I've run Norton and Dell several times and it usually doesn't turn up anything, and when it does (the last few times it says it's detected viruses/trojans/cookies much after I scanned) they get taken care of, I restart my system, and nothing changes.

-Restoring my system to a previous time when I didn't have this problem. I go through all the motions and restart my computer, but when it starts up again, it tells me t... Read more

I get this error message all the time including tonight.

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"
"Runtime Error!
"Program: C:\Program Files/ America Online/waol.exe

The message pops up out of nowhere. It has a red X in the corner. I always get it when I'm using AOL (8.0). I get the error message, AOL freezes, as well as magnifier, which I usually have open. When I click OK, AOL closes and magnifier stays frozen. I click control+alt+delete, go to processes, and end the task of waol.exe. Then magnifier usually goes back to normal. I always lose everything that's open in AOL. This is very frustrating. I tried increasing the virtual memory, but that obviously hasn't helped. This actually happened a little while ago and I don't want to click OK because I would be losing some very important information that would be a huge hassle to redo. Please, can anyone help me? I don't want this to happen anymore. Thanks.

Hello,
I was cleaning up my computer the other day and came across a bunch of these Microsoft Visual C++ things, which were taking up some space. I know that these are really important to run Windows programs, but I was wondering if I really needed all of these. Is there one "main" or "latest" build I can keep and remove the rest or something like that? Here's a list of programs I have on my computer. It's a gaming PC, so there's only games :)

-Minecraft
-Starcraft 2
-CoD5
-TF2
-CS:S
-L4D2
-Gmod
-League of Legends
-Firefox
-Chrome
-IE (ew :P)

It's fine if I need all of these runtime programs, but I wanted to see if I could save some space.

EDIT: Included attachment of all the Visual programs.

A:[SOLVED] Multiple "Microsoft Visual C++" Runtimes

You should leave them all alone as different apps require different versions of Visual C++ runtime (to match the version of Visual C++ that was used to create those apps), as well as some being 32-bit & some being 64-bit in your case.

That's why Visual C++ runtime installations no longer overwrite existing versions as used to be the case in the bad old days causing some apps to be "broken".

None of them are taking up much disk space by today's standards where multi-gigabyte disks are commonplace.

Hello!

I am trying to install Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 from the following link.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/down....aspx?id=48145

I pick the x64 version, because that is what my computer is. However, after downloading, when I try to install it by running the program, the progress bar fills fine until the very end, where it freezes. This is shown in picture 1.

When I press cancel, a quick box opens up asking if I'm sure, and when I click yes, the screen looks like what is shown in picture 2.

And so I click on the log file, and it shows me this:

I'm a tech guy myself, but I'm really stumped on this one.My display drivers were demanding updates, so I download the newest driver and let it install. It kept stopping/hanging whenever it got to "Currently Installing: microsoft visual c++ 2012 redistributable".I go to check out if theres anything wrong, and of course, I can't re-install, repair or uninstall the current 2012 on my computer.I went and got a program to forceably uninstall it, and that worked, but I still can't install a fresh copy of visual c from either the package that came with the drivers, or the install directly from microsoft. It just sits there, telling me "Hold on, hold on, were getting started, here it comes" and never going anywhere.A google search for this issue seems to always be solved by just uninstalling and reinstalling, but I'm never so lucky.

I have no idea what this feature does but my ThinkPad has 9 versions of it, see attached pic. Is this normal? Are they all required? I ask because my Win 7 is very slow to fire up, though fine once up and running, and I'm going through the whole repertoire here - checking startups, checking errors in event viewer, updating drivers etc, so far without much sign of improvement.

A:Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable

It is normal to have multiple versions. Windows adds them to the WinSxS folder and the application picks the version it needs

Each has its own runtime libraries. Each is independent and the various programs needing them will call the one needed. These are not the reason for your slowdown. If you haven't seen these already:

I'm a tech guy myself, but I'm really stumped on this one.
My display drivers were demanding updates, so I download the newest driver and let it install. It kept stopping/hanging whenever it got to "Currently Installing: microsoft visual c++ 2012 redistributable".
I go to check out if theres anything wrong, and of course, I can't re-install, repair or uninstall the current 2012 on my computer.
I went and got a program to forceably uninstall it, and that worked, but I still can't install a fresh copy of visual c from either the package that came with the drivers, or the install directly from microsoft.
It just sits there, telling me "Hold on, hold on, were getting started, here it comes" and never going anywhere.
A google search for this issue seems to always be solved by just uninstalling and reinstalling, but I'm never so lucky.

For some reason, my "Recycle Bin" will not display the files within it with the correct filters while in the "Details" view.

For example, I have the "View" set to "Details", and the two columns I have showing are "Name" and "Type", with "Name" selected as the preferred sort order.

With those settings in place, the "Recycle Bin" is not displaying the files in the correct order.I am not sure of the order that it is displaying them, as I can't pick-up on any pattern.

For example, it is displaying:

"File0002.jpg"
"File0003.jpg"
"File0004.jpg"
"File0001.mp3"
"File0001.jpg"

When I adjust it again so it displays them in the correct order, the next time I open the "Recycle Bin", the order has returned to the incorrect display.

Any ideas on how to correct this?

What exactly are these programs? I have like 5-6 of them, and was wondering if it is safe to uninstall them.

Like, are there any programs that are dependent upon it?

A:Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable

They are normally installed along side an application. They install runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries which are required to run applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2008 installed.

Theres a good chance that a piece of software on your system requires the C++ libraries to run, it is safe to leave the application on there, you might have issues with a specific program if you remove it.

Hello everyone,

This problem has been haunting me for awhile and I've finally decided to address it. My Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable has been giving me difficulties mainly when attempting to install programs. I receive an error about V C++ being missing and being prompted to install it via CD, considering I don't have the CD I cannot install it. Upon trying to install it via software downloaded from Microsoft themselves nothing happens, the software prepares for installation then promptly disappears. When I try to uninstall it via Add or Remove Programs I am prompted AGAIN to insert the CD for the software.

Can anyone please help me solve this tediously annoying issue before I go insane?

Thank you to all in advance!

Which one in particular?

Since you have 64bit Windows, download and install both x86 and x64 service packed versions (if applicable) of:
- 2005
- 2008
- 2010
- 2012
- 2013

VC Redist don't have much of an installation, do they appear in programs and features? should be lots of them when you install all I listed

Why aren't these redistributable packages distributed with Microsoft Windows as default and why are they not backwards compatible? There are even separate x86 and x64 builds for it. This is creating a mess of approximately 20 separate installations in
the installed apps section of Windows. Also this is creating a potential problem if some of the developers do not include the vcredist installer with their software thus getting an error of msvcr...dll not found or even worse less explanatory error.

Hello,
well, first off, check this image:

As you can see, I've blurred out all irrelevant programs. The rest, are all Microsoft-related-programs, and the highlighted are the multiple Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable applications I am talking about.

As you can see, there are two C++ 2005 Redisitributable, which doesn't make much sense. (although the first one weights 2.69MB and the second only 346KB) The last two that are highlighted are both C++ 2008 Redisitributable for x86, however the second is a newer version (do I really need the first version so that the last one can work?).

I ask this because I believe this is a complete waste of space and processing memory. Thank you in advance and if I missed any valuable information, please let me know and I will post it up ASAP.

It's likely windows isn't letting you remove it because it knows you have system components that need it.

Hello,

I am trying to install Autodesk Maya, a 3D graphics development program.

The first part of the installation gets hung up when it attempts to install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.

I figured I would install it separately, and I got this error message with every version of the software (x64, x86, x32, etc...):

Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly
"Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.42",publicKeyToken="1fc9b3b9a1e18e3b" ,processorArchitecture="x86" Please refer to Help and Support for more information
I searched for information about the error, and tried many methods.

First I tried the Microsoft Fixit for Windows Update (apparently problems with windows update can cause this error), but that fixit was, ironically, the only one from the list which DID NOT work. It says that the version is outdated and to search for a more current version.

Next I tried a windows repair install from disk, and the repair install got at far as "Copying Windows Files" when it told me that the installation could not be continued. It then told me to restart and check for current updated.

I even tried making a separate admin account, and this, too, failed.
On an added note, I USED to be able to run this software since when I first got my computer, I installed Maya 2010 which uses the same software. I wish I had never uninstalled it.

The only cause I know of for this is a registry problem, below is the only fix I know of if I diagnosed this correctly.

In Windows, click Start > Run...
In the Run window, type 'regedit'. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control.
In the 'Registry Editor' dialog box, double-click on 'RegistrySizeLimit'. This opens the 'Edit DWORD Value' dialog box.
In the 'Edit DWORD Value' dialog box, enter ffffffff as the 'Hexadecimal' value. Click on the 'Decimal' radio button, and enter 4294967295 as the 'Decimal' value. Click OK.
Reboot the machine.
Log in as an Administrator and open a Command Prompt and run 'SFC /SCANNOW'.
