Q: Chicony web camera doesn't work on toshiba satellite a3

The chicony web camera doesn't work on my toshiba satellite a350-12d and windows 7 64 bit..

I always get different errors like
"graph render fail"
"the device is locked by another program"

I tried many things and look on a lot of posts but nothing works. I have installed many drivers and programs to solve it but nothing works.
at first the camera was ok but now nothing seems to help and the camera is down..

can you help me??

Preferred Solution: Chicony web camera doesn't work on toshiba satellite a3

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Chicony web camera doesn't work on toshiba satellite a3

Start - Search - type "device manager" - look for either your web camera in Imaging Devices, or unknown devices - right click - properties - details tab - select hardware id's in the drop down box
Copy and paste back all the info into a reply to this post, and we'll see if we can find a driver for you

Hi I have just upgraded to Windows 10 on my L670-12J and the camera does not work any more. I have tried to search for a Win 10 driver but I have not found any.
Also some of the function keys do not work any more and of course the tab that used to open at the top of the screen has gone also.
I did install some software to check for driver updates related to Win 10 but it did not identify a problem or a driver for the camera.
Can anybody help please.

A:Satellite L670-12J - Chicony camera not working after Win 10 installation

I also had same problem with cam,

finally found solution -

go to device manager -> update driver software (on cammera, possibly shown as unknown device, so you need to actually figure out which one is cammera) -> browse my computer for driver -> let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer -> pick chicony usb 2.0 cammera, it will give you warning that driver might not be compatible, ignore warning, camera working...
(Unsure if camera was on list before i installed win 7 driver i got from

however, i recommend looking is there this option in available devices first)

The Chicony camera driver is not very good and has a bug. When using something like Messenger Live you can't enable "Night mode" using the advanced video settings as the setting is absent from the adjustment pages. You can set "Night Mode" on the Camera Assistant software, but this has no effect when the camera is running in Messenger Live.

"Night mode" is pretty much essential for typical indoor usage on the Chicony camera and without it the picture is very dark and not that usable.

If I use a Logitech camera it's driver exposes much better settings in Messenger Live including it's equivalent of 'night mode'.

It this something Toshiba can feed back to Chicony and get some better drivers?

A:Satellite Pro S300 - Chicony USB 2.0 Camera poor driver support

I managed to get night mode working in Messenger.

1) Start Messenger and connect to your contact and start sharing webcam as normal.
2) Launch the Camera Assistance Software and from the menu select the first option to preview video. The preview will not show and you see a message about the camera locked in use.
3) Click the spanner icon top right, then select Properties.
4) If night mode is selected, deselect and click apply, then apply it, the webcam is now in Night mode in Messenger.

*Note*, you have to go via the image preview route as the buggy driver software will not change the Night Mode setting if you go directly to properties using the spanner icon in the slide out menu.

What would be nice if Toshiba got some better driver support and night mode was selectable in the exposed properties in Messenger.

The Chicony camera and driver support is one of the worst ones I have seen included in a laptop.

I'm new on this forum and I have a problem with my new toshiba satellite l50a-14m. I did a factory reset recently and health monitor (whitch I think is a great program) does not work anymore...

When I open it notify an error "can't get the isrt enable flag in registry" and does not activate.
I have windows 8.1 64bit;

I tried to download more versions but do not work.
How to do?

Sorry for my bad english..

IRST means the Intel Rapid Storage technology and there is also an IRST driver available on the Toshiba EU driver page.

You should update or reinstall this driver.

I think this will fix the pc health monitor issue

Hi! I'm at the end of my rope trying to solve this issue with the mouse/touch pad on my Toshiba Satellite running Windows 8.1
The mouse pointer doesn't work in the center portion of the screen. The mouse pointer doesn't disappear or anything; but if I try to click on something in the affected area nothing happens and I can't complete any tasks. If I'm able to move the item to an area of the screen where the mouse pointer does work (for example, minimizing my browser), then I can open up the item that I was previously unable to work with. This only happens in a section on the center of the screen and it happens with every single program, not just my web browser. So it's clearly an issue with using the mouse in this area of the screen; I just don't know what's causing it and how to resolve things. Oh, and I also can't alternatively use the touch screen to access things in this area of the screen either. It's like there's an entire area blocked off from accessing.
The mouse shows as working properly in Device Manager. Ideas on what to do or what could be causing this to happen?

The problem happens in both windows store apps and .exe programs. Camera doesn't work in Chrome, Edge,Skype(both store and .exe). I recently gave my laptop in for servicing at an authorized service center(Just a speaker issue). Could it be that they could have unplugged the camera cable? I also saw a post referring to the same laptop but in that post only store apps had this problem. Already tried reinstalling driver, enabling permissions etc. If I remember correctly this problem started after the fall creators update. When the camera is used the white led does blink, even though an image doesn't show. Please help me with this.

Note: at the end of the warranty the battery stopped working. I just use it plugged to the wall. When I put the battery he says "not charging".

I have an L305 s5933 laptop from Toshiba. Awhile ago I had to replace the front bezel because it was broken. When I did this I got the wrong bezel and couldn't see the webcam because there was no hole in the bezel (frame) This didn't bother me because I didn't use the webcam anyway.

Now I want to skype and make webcam calls. Last week I ordered the correct bezel with a hole in it for my webcam. I checked to see if the webcam worked and it did. Today I installed Skype and looked for my webcam and couldn't see anything. I can physically see it but Skpe doesn't recognize it. I look for it in the Device Manager and it isn't there.

What do I do?

Hello everyone,

My little more than one year old Satellite notebook won't turn on when I press the power button. The lights next to the button work, but the computer itself doesn't turn on (no HDD, no CPU).

I took it to a service, and today I called them - they're telling me that the video card overheated (and I didn't really understand, what I got out of it was that the soldered pins got detached) and that's what's causing the problem. They said they can solder it back for $250...

I'm a little skeptical, because I know that I can boot a [desktop] computer without a video card, at least to hear the HDD and the CPU.

Can it be possible that my computer doesn't boot because my video card is detached from the motherboard?

I'm also a little skeptical because I think what they're trying to do is rip me off, that's why I'm asking if this is reasonable. They charge me $30 bucks either way now that they opened my computer and "checked" what was wrong, and they walk away with even more money if they get me to agree to repair it...

My fear is that possibly they even fiddled with my video card now (let's say that the problem was a simple wire and they ruin the soldering on my video card...) just to get me to pay $250 bucks for the computer back.
If I choose to not repair this computer, they'll probably offer to buy it off of me for about the same price if not lower, and it's still a very good lapt... Read more

I ordered a new, higher capacity battery for my Toshiba laptop (Satellite A85-S107). The original battery was a 14.4V, 2000mAh model and the new battery is a 10.8V, 10400mAh model. The new battery installed fine and the computer worked fine with it but the charge status did not seem to display correctly, showing at first a 22% remaining charge, then upon a restart, showing 74% charge. Connecting the AC adapter did not show the orange charging indicator and the charge status did not change.

Following some advice on another forum, I restarted the computer in safe mode, let it operate without AC power until the battery discharged (3.5hours) and the computer shut down. I then connected the AC adapter, restarted the computer and this time the charge indicator flashed about once every couple of seconds, the charge status showed 2%. I turned off the computer and let it charge overnight, started the computer in the morning, the charge status was still 2% and the adapter was cool. Upon unplugging the adapter, the computer immediately shut down. How can I get the computer to recognize the new battery so it charges correctly?

Click Start.

Click Run.

In the Run box type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.

Click the + next to the pane Network Adapters so it expands, showing all installed hardware.

Take a screenshot of this window and attach the file in your next post.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

If you have no internet connection on the problem PC, transferring the screenshot via flashdrive or CD to a working computer is possible. If this is not practical for you, a detailed listing of the requested information will suffice, along with reports of any ! ? or X's next to the entries.

Bought one of these for my mother and it's been a nightmare. The first one had an issue with the keyboard that caused it to type random characters on the screen.

The replacement was working fine for about two months, now the touchpad has stopped working. I can use the touchpad in the BIOS so I know it's not a hardware fault. Tried every driver available, including the ELAN (that brings up a CRC problem) on the Toshiba website and nothing would work. Tried the reinstall keeping my files, didnt work. Then finally took an image of the disk and did a full Windows 10 install and it STILL doesnt work.

So what am I meant to do now, install Windows 8 on it and see will that work. Why do Toshiba push Windows 10 on people when they have not made sure that the software and hardware are compatible.

A:Toshiba Satellite C55-C1K1 - Windows 10 does not work

I installed Windows 8 on the laptop, and STILL the touchpad would not work. Finally found a thread on another site, which mentioned that for another (similar) C55-A model of Toshiba, the solution was to update the BIOS. So I downloaded the latest BIOS update and installed it. Rebooted after the update, and the touchpad started working again. Rebooted a few times and still it worked.

Finally imaged back the original Windows 10 OS to the hard drive, and the touchpad and F5 (enable/disable) both now work. Toshiba need to have a note sent with these laptops or have a recall. Two days lost on this nonsense.

Purchased this refurbished All-in-One yesterday and am doing my initial set up.   The built in Intel RealSense Camera does not work.  First noticed this when I tried the MS Camera App and got back the error message "We can't find your camera.  Check to be sure it's connected and installed properly, that it isn''t being blocked by antivirus software, and that your camera drivers are up to date.  If you need it, here is the error code:  0xA00F4244(oxC00D36D5). So I have been troubleshooting.  The Anti-Virus is the McAfee that came pre-installed.  I perused the firewall section of its configuration panel and saw nothing to suggest McAfee was blocking the camera. Then I went online to HP support.   Note: The troubleshooting section for built-in all-in-one cameras is non-existent.  The troubleshooting info for external cameras was not helpful.  But I did find advice at HP to go into my device manager and reinstall or update the camera drivers.   So, I went into the Windows Defice Manager.   There is no camera driver listed either under Imaging Devices or Sound, Video, Game Controllers, the two places suggested to look.  In fact, the only related driver I can find is under System Devices there is an "Intel RealSense Camera Virtual Bus Enumerator".  That probably isn't it, but I updated driver anyway and was told by system I already had the current driver (for whatever that ... The TV-out on your laptop is only for playing DVD-videos on the laptop's DVD-drive to watch on a television.

To run Windows & applications on an external display, buy a standard D-sub VGA cable, plug one end into the VGA port [Toshiba call this an RGB (monitor) port] on the rear panel of your laptop, then plug the other end into either a monitor or a dual PC/TV which has a D-sub VGA input. If the TV has no D-sub VGA input, you can't use it for that purpose.

Alright, so here's the deal. I have a Vivicam 20 Dual-Mode still camera with webcam capabilities. I recently got a new computer (HP Media Center PC m7470n; Windows XP Media Center Edition) to replace my old computer (Dell Dimension 8100 running WinXP home). For some reason, my new web camera does not work on instant messaging programs (MSN 7.5 and AIM 5.5) even though it worked on my old computer for both programs. Here's all I've found:
Both "Dual-Mode DSC (Still Camera)" and "Dual-Mode DSC (Video Camera)" show up under Imaging Devices in Device Manager. Neither have a yellow "!" next to them. It had been mentioned that having another imaging device connected (a scanner for instance) can cause a conflict, but the scanner connects via a parallel port and appears under "Other Devices" with no conflicts, I have no other such devices connected or installed (except for another, much more useless camera which I used for testing and got the same results and no conflicts.)

Un-installing/re-installing drivers/cleaning the registry of all "vivicam" entries does not fix the problem.

Using the latest drivers does not fix the problem.

I have tried all three (two?) USB hubs on my computer, including one with no other devices connected to it (or at least ones which have none connected either laterally or vertically).

This is very bad situation now. All you can do is to try again. Make second DVD clean and try it again.
I really hope this will work somehow. If not, you have a big problem.

Before recovery image installation starts whole HDD will be formatted so there is no chance to start HDD recovery installation from the HDD (using 0 at start-up).

Some help will be much appreciated. So, my HP Envy 17's webcam has stopped working. When I open a videocall in Skype or try to take a picture with the camera-app, all I get is a black screen of disappointment. So, I went into Device Manager -> Imaging Devices & opened up the details.Everything seems to be in order, the automatic update can't find any new drivers, it claims to be working fine.BUT!!! Under the "Events" tab, the most recent event reads:Device USB\VID_1BCF&PID_2082&MI_00\6&341948d&1&0000 requires further installation. This events comes from Source KernelPNP, but the "Jobkategory" is marked as "Nothing"I assume this "further installation" is required for the camera to work, but I have no clue what to install, or even where to find itPLease help

hi all.
i deinstall some firmware and fn key for some options doesn't work now. icons with options at the top of screen also doesn't appears.
what module or driver i need to reinstall to make FN key operatable?

A:Satellite T210 FN key doesn't work

Seems you have removed the software which controls the Fn buttons.
I would recommend setting the OS back to the point before you have removed this software.

Usually the system point should be created automatically before the software has been removed.

I've got my DVDROM not working at all. I've no idea why. I open device manager and there're two exclamation marks for CD&DVD-ROM drivers accordingly. So I digged through the whole Interenet and haven't found any drivers! I would appreciate if you could help me, please.

Best regards, Alexander

ODD (optical disc drive) uses standard Microsoft driver so you cannot find driver for ODD.
What you can try is follow: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

I bought my toshiba Satellite S50-B-12R this saturday but from the moment i couldn't use my webcam.

I've looked everywhere for drivers for my webcam but i can't find them.
Also when i look in my configuration window it doesnt find a webcam.

But one time my webcam did work i was on skype and it detected my webcam so i used it and then when i tried to use it later it wasnt detected anymore.

So i want to know if there are missing drivers or maybe the webcam isn't correctly connected inside the device. And what i need to do to be able to use my webcam

First of all the notebook was already preinstalled with Toshiba image and all drivers and software were installed too.
Therefore additional driver installation isn?t necessary.

Secondly the preinstalled Win 8.1 system contains the webcam driver. The driver is designed by Microsoft and part of the system.

The Win 8.1 provides an webcam app which you could find on the Win 8.1 surface.
But before using the app, you have to add the webcam access and change the privacy settings.

Open charm bar (Win key + C) -> settings -> permissions -> enable webcam & microphone

Now close and open the webcam app again. You should have your camera app working fine now
