Preferred Solution: A windows pops up at startup on the taskbar then disappears

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: A windows pops up at startup on the taskbar then disappears

Greetings, and welcome to TSF.

Your log apprears clean, so we'll need to look a little deeper.

Let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3 http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=download. Learn how to use it at http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=easytouse. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates at http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=update. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to 'System Testing' on the menu and choose 'Full System Scan'. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies. If you have problems copying the text, look (or search) for a file named scandump.txt and see if that has the alarms - post that here.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. You may use Panda ActiveScan also at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

I started using frostwire to download a couple of songs I could not find on itunes. Later that night I noticed nod32 wasn't automatically updating, so I re-installed it to make sure everything was working properly before I open up a few songs from frostwire. I scanned them with jotti, malwarebytes and nod32, and nothing came up. I later did a scan of Spybot S&D to be 100% nothing came up again. Later that night my start/taskbar starting popping up and disappearing, I started watching it and it looked like the red shield with an X you get when you don't have an anti virus installed. It was happening every 2-3 seconds or so and decided to turn off the notification in the security panel. After I did that I didn't have the task bar problem but i noticed the 'Malware Protction' bar there would quickly go to Protected/On to Off and back to on.
I've started to ignore it but that doesn't fix a problem so I've come here.

Here are the logs I have and you can find the attached logs at the bottom to download.

My task bar seems to keep on popping up as if I hover over it and then it disappears, I sometimes keep my mouse over it and I see a little windows alert sign pop up very very quickly as if it would give a security notice and be red.
I've ran malwarebytes, Spybot S&D and Nod32 and neither have found anything.

I just disabled the way it gives me notices and I was staring at the security center screen for a little bit and I saw other security settings quickly go off and on.
Also it does this every 30 seconds or so.

Edit: It's not other security settings, apparently it's malware protection.

My taskbar on Windows 7 happens to disappear from time to time, right after the screensaver comes off. I searched for the problem here, and found some advice that didn't work out for me. I tried something else which did work, however, and thought I should post it here.

My solution was, I entered Task Manager, and ended the process 'explorer.exe'. This made everything disappear of course. Still within Task Manager, I chose File > New Task (Run...) and entered 'explorer.exe'. Simply terminated and ran it again. Everything I had, including open programs and windows, was back, including the Taskbar.

Hey guys, I have a strange issue with a blank command window popping up and immediately disappearing. It happens exactly 10 minutes after booting up, every time. This is happening on a fairly new installation of Windows 7 64bit.
I'm trying to understand if its malware related or what exactly is triggering it. I've looked in msconfig startup tab for any entries that call cmd.exe but found none. I also looked in task scheduler but couldn't find anything that seemed related.
Can anyone advise on how to identify what is calling this command window? What tool might be able to help?
I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

During the day a cmd window will pop up and immediately disappear without warning, kicking me out of fullscreen applications and being a general annoyance. I suspect something more sinister but Windows Defender, Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware have failed to find the source of the problem and the popups continue to occur.

Being rather annoyed I managed to capture the event in a recording and discovered it was BITSadmin attempting to do something.
I have no experience dealing with BITSadmin but I do know its function so I assume something is trying to phone home, but as previously stated all AV software has not found the cause. Any help would be appreciated.

I hate to start naming people off here like an assembly line, but I find myself in the same situation as @tkrisz0403 in that my Command Prompt, accompanied by the exact same text as the former case, as seen in the first screen shot I provide which I managed to capture using OBS studio (please feel free to snoop through my dungeons and dragons writing at your leisure . I proceeded to follow some of the advice provide by @Hydranix and @Superfly by proceeding to download the bitsadmin buster.zip, which did promptly catch and freeze the process. The txt it provided was also identical, "Parent Process Name: cmd.exe" (of which I'll also produce a screenshot, mainly because I'm not knowledgeable enough to do anything else in a forum)

I then went on with further with the instructions in that particular forum, first entering "Get-BitsTransfer -AllUsers | select -ExpandProperty FileList | Select -ExpandProperty RemoteName" into powershell as recommended by @Superfly, which gave me slightly different results. Still, cloudfront.net appeared to be the issue, as it came up in an almost identical fashion as in @tkrisz0403 's case. I proceeded to enter the command prompt provided by @Superfly;

I have recently changed my setting under msconfig ( System Configuration Utility). I set it to normal start up. And after i rebooted, the windows installer dialog box always pops up every time i startup the computer. I press cancel and it will close but then after a few seconds, it will appear again. It appears around 3-4 times. I changed the settings to selective start up again and unchecked some of the services from the start up tab but i still have the problem. How do i resolve this?

A:Windows installer pops up at startup

Normal Startup vs Selective Startup:
If you use the msconfig utility to access the Startup menu and make changes on that menu, you will need to remain in Selective Startup. The nag message that comes up after the reboot following these changes, suggest that Selective Startup is only a diagnostic mode and you should return to Normal Mode.

This is not entirely accurate. Remaining in Selective Startup is the only way to keep the changes. Virtually every program installed on a PC comes with it on the Startup menu and very few programs are actually needed to start at boot. They are the antivirus program, firewall, touchpad for laptop and network processes if on network. The rest can be called up when needed.

Services vs Processes:
The msconfig utility Startup menu deals with processes. Services is an entirely different category. Services can also be customized for settings of Automatic, Manual or Disabled, with care taken to check the Dependency tab of each Service. Here is help with Services:

When you have finished customizing the Startup menu using msconfig, click on Apply> OK> Reboot> Close the nag message after checking 'don't show this message again'.

IF you have checked a process to now start at boot and are now getting the installer message, it is possible that the program for that process has not been correctly or fully installed. If that is the case, a rei... Read more

I upgraded to Windows 10 several months ago and the Quick Access menu was working normally. A few months back however, all of the pinned items disappeared and I cannot pin anything to the quick access menu either. I've gone through all the posts and different solutions I can find and all I have been able to do is temporarily fix the problem by deleting the "5f7b5f1e01b83767.automaticDestinations-ms" file in the C:\Users\Rob\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations folder.

Deleting this file does bring back the quick access folders that I had pinned before this problem started to happen, but every time I restart my computer, the quick access menu is again empty and nothing can be pinned to it.

I have googled and tried all of the different solutions that I can find so any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

What up with that? I am running a freshly installed Win7 x64 Ultimate (installed yesterday according to all the installation cannons and all), and my taskbar keeps disappearing at times. Edit: I am talking about the system tray icons, not the taskbar as a whole, sorry. My system tray (aka "notification area") disappears, and it's got nothing to do with screensavers or anything of the sort. Maybe something to do with sleep mode?

My taskbar disappears sometimes. I right click at an empty spot on the taskbar and left click on Lock Taskbar. But then the next time I turn the machine on the taskbar might be down below the screen. It won't come up even if I left-click and try to drag it up. So I right click below the screen, thinking Lock Taskbar may have become unchecked, but the menu still has "Lock Taskbar" checked.

During a session where the taskbar happens to appear normally, I use that opportunity to drag it to twice its height. The taskbar seems to be pretty stable in this configuration. It will stay at double-height but I don't like giving that much screen real estate to the taskbar. I want the taskbar to be standard height and stay that way. Is there a way to do this?

I just received a computer running Windows XP and was surprised that when I go into Windows explorer, the window extends over the task bar and Start menu by default (making it impossible use them unless I shrink the window).

I would like to show the task bar and Start Menu when in Windows Explorer as a default but don't see a way of doing that.

A:Taskbar disappears

Right click on the Taskbar > properties > under the Taskbar Tab , uncheck the " auto-hide the taskbar" option and check the "Lock the taskbar" option !

This has happened twice i think. Not sure what causes it but the taskbar will literally disappear.

You can see my background picture where the taskbar is suppose to be. However you still see the Start Menu Launcher button on the bottom left.

On my laptop, the task bar is at the bottom when my desktop is present. When I open my browser (Firefox), the task bar disappears and I can't get it to reappear. I right clicked on the task bar and made sure that the "lock tasbar" was checked. Any suggestions?

I am running Win 7 home premium on both my laptop and my desktop. The laptop has a unique problem. When I boot up, the task bar is not visible. I can move my mouse pointer down to the bottom of the screen and it appears and stays that way until I reboot. I have right clicked on the task bar and clicked on "freeze task bar" but that does not cure the problem. Any suggestions on how I can view the task bar every time I reboot?

hi Bill, when you get the taskbar in view, right click on it and then "uncheck" auto hide.

A few months ago, my friend came over and was messing around on my computer.
The next day (He stayed over), the monitor went on sleep mode, and when my friend moved the mouse, only my wallpaper appeared. It was slightly smaller (Height was the same; width was smaller), and whatever programs I had running were gone. Even though it came up, the start menu and taskbar were gone. When I pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the Task Manager, the screen went black and nothing came up. The screen goes back to normal when it's restarted, but it can be a pain to constantly restart, especially if I'm in the middle of downloading something.

I've searched Google constantly, but I might be searching the wrong thing.
I don't think it's a spec issue, since it happened all of a sudden, but here they are (Just in case):

Hello sonnyboy, Sorry for the delay. If you still need help then create a Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) Log. Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) from one of the links below and save to your Desktop. Primary Mirror Secondary Mirror DSS will do the following: 1. Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista. 2. Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, Internet Cache Files, and empty the Recycle Bin on all drives. 3. Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for an analyst to review. 4. Automatically run HijackThis. It will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed. So if HijackThis is not installed and DSS prompts you to download it, please answer yes. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges when using Deckard's System Scanner. 1. Close all applications and windows. 2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts. 3. If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious. 4. When the scan is complete, two text files will open in Notepad: main.txt <-- Will be maximized extra.txt <-- Will be minimized 5. If not, they both can be found in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder. 6. Please copy (<Control>+C) and paste (<Control>+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply. They are there at boot up but disappear as everything load. I've tried to pin them to the taskbar but they still disappear after reboot. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Hi there,
I can't find anyone else with this "problem". I have an internet explorer icon on my taskbar. Once I click on it to open a window, the icon disappears. On Windows XP, the icon stayed there, and I could click it again to open a new window. How do I keep the icon there so I can click it again? (Yes, I can right click the first open window and then click the icon in the dropdown menu, but that's two steps rather than one and is driving me crazy!)
Thanks in advance for your help!

My taskbar is set to autohide. Instant messenger apps typically unhide the taskbar and flash their own icon orange. I can write a small program to stop the flashing, but does anyone know how to either

1. Prevent apps from unhiding the taskbar or
2. Rehide the taskbar programatically

I am already aware of this registry setting, but it does not help! It does not prevent the taskbar from unhiding. I am also aware that some apps have a setting to stop notifications - the one I am using does not.

For a while now, I'll be browsing on firefox, and the button in the taskbar will disappear even though I'm clearly still using firefox. I thought that maybe it was just something odd with the version I had, so I upgraded to the newest one today and it still does it.

No other programs do this, and if I happen to minimize firefox when the button isn't in the taskbar, the only way to get it back open is to go into the task manager and have it 'switch to' so it comes back up. Firefox also runs a lot slower when it's not showing in the taskbar. I don't know why it randomly disappears and unless I use the task manager, I have no idea how to get it to show in the taskbar.

I'm running windows XP and using Firefox version 3.5.2 (the newest one)

And if it helps I can also provide a screenshot of what I'm describing if it's unclear and add it to this post.

My computer is running really slow, and some *weird* things are happening. Like for instance...the page will suddenly "adjust" and move up a few inches or down a few inches on the screen. On the taskbar at the bottom a button will appear with just a picture of a page on it, no writting...then it disappears. It happens so fast, i can't click on it...Maybe that's a good thing. Anyway...here is my log...I appreciate you time and help.

I wasn't sure which sub forum to put this on so I put this here

yes the taskbar for my Win 7 Home Premium seems to like to disappear and reappear a few seconds later, its been doing that a lot today and whats more, Mozilla seems to just stop responding every now and then as well, although it gets out of it after a few seconds. Plus, when i type for instance, my typing isn't that fast anyway but say I've typed till this full stop here. The display lags behind a bit and its probably only at the world "but..."

Two things happened before this thing started happening: 1) I updated windows (it was a shutdown update thing) 2) I installed a couple of plugin programs for my DAW.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

A:Taskbar Disappears and Reappears- odd behaviour

What's DAW?

The taskbar symptom sounds like Explorer crashing and automatically restarting. If you don't have any windows open when the taskbar vanishes, do you see the desktop icons vanish as well?

I'd suggest uninstalling the plugins temporarily to see if the problem goes away...
