Are protocols part of browser software ?

Q: Are protocols part of browser software ?

TCP, FTP, UDP, SSL, HTTP,Telnet etc are all different protols.

Are all these protocols, part of browser software or OS ?

If more than one browser are installed on windows 7, does it mean that these protocols are installed more than once or they are part of Windows 7 and no matter how many browser softwares are installed, each browser uses protocol provided by the OS (windows 7, in this case) ?

Preferred Solution: Are protocols part of browser software ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Are protocols part of browser software ?

Hi, erm OK, think of it in terms of these are part of the OS not the browser.

Hello, please help.. getting a 0x000000d1 error on win 7 pro x64.

This is a clients laptop, only one month old with factory installed win 7 pro. Only updates, office 2013, outlook 2010, Avast AV and some company bespoke non-invasive software installed.

Been getting these BSODs for the whole time since active usage.

I've tried lots of google threads without success, I think it's a driver issue??

I'm really stuck here, although I'm an 'IT Guy' with 15 years in the business I've never looked into diagnosing dump files etc.

I appeal for your help, please find attached the collected sys info/dumps.

A:Win 7 x64 BSOD - I know it's software but which part?

Lets take a look.

An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If kernel debugger is available get stack backtrace.
Arg1: 0000000006f77320, memory referenced
Arg2: 0000000000000002, IRQL
Arg3: 0000000000000000, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
Arg4: fffff880058d9b3d, address which referenced memory
So we tried to read invalid/pageable memory at an IRQL of two which is an illegal operation that will always result in a bugcheck.
Whether the memory was pageable or invalid is still unknown as the dump file hasn't saved that information.

I had a desktop with WinXP that my Lexmark X1270 all-in-one printer was hooked up to. I have since got rid of that pc and got a laptop with Vista (I know nobody likes it, but it appeared that that's the only choice now.) that I hooked my printer up to. While it does print, a part of it is missing. It just so happens to be a crucial part to me. The All-In-One center isn't on my pc (I've tried reinstalling a couple times and updating driver/software at Lexmark's site), that being the part where you can copy and scan things. Anyone able to help?

A:Part of printer's software missing?

I like Vista for a start - I haven't had to do a fresh install once yet!

This may sound a cop out but have you asked Lexmark if this is a common issue? - you never know they may even help.

Another shot is, are you installing it as an administrator? i.e right-click on the setup.exe and Run as Administrator.

Okay, this is the second time I've posted this, but it seems that the first message has disappeared.

I have Vista Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron E1705 (if that helps)...I CAN'T download or access any vital features because when Windows goes to ask my permission to continue, no window comes up! The screen darkens, but there is nothing there, and I have to go into task manager to regain access. I can't even do a system restore, or run things as an administrator (as suggested in previous postings) because they all seek permission for me to continue and I end up right back at the same dilemma...

Any ideas? I'm just stumped.

Hello Everyone,

If you are not familiar with my previous post, please see 'Problems while installing software (XP)' I really don't want to waste space by repeating all of that.

I'm grasping at straws right now, I have not been able to find anything even remotely like this, and there are no response to me earlier post, the one mentioned above.

Is it possible that there is an install that is still trying to work, in the background? I have kill the process on some of the installations that appear to hang. Could the installer be hung in the middle of some other installation?

If so, any ideas how I would kill it?

A:Problems while installing software (XP) Part 2

Just an FYI

I think (the jury is still out on this) I may have fixed the problem.

I was having a problem where I could not get the properties of a folder, not the file(s) but folder, would not display. Searching the web I found a solution (if you are interested in the solution look in this forum, for one of my posts, it was a problem with file folder properties. In a nutshell I had to get a service World Wide Web Publishing to start. Since fixing this, every one of my installs have completed as one would thin they should.

Hi again

Trying to remain optimistic

A while ago I posted a question about my intermittent browser problems - the thread is here -

Basically what happens is this - I will be surfing the 'Net normally, actively, going from page to page. Then suddenly, when I ask for a page, the words 'resolving www.xxxxx.com appear in the bottom of my browser (I have used several, currently Mozilla Firefox). Then a box appears which says 'Page Not Found'. So I close all browser windows and try to fire up the browser again - and I get a good load. Then a few minutes later.... same thing again. This also happens with my email client (also Mozilla currently).

I have a DSL connection to the Net. Could this be a problem related to the s/w that connects my computer to the 'Net?

I am at a total loss - I have tried Flrman1's reco of repairing IE (this started happening when I was using IE and I switched to Mozilla in an effort to solve the problem). I installed the Service pack related to the problem but as I said this problem occurs no matter which browser I am using. I tried shutting down my Firewall (Free version of ZoneAlarm) but that didn't help. Flrman1 has had me run a Hijack This and said he saw no malware.

There is a bad item on my computer which Norton finds every week during it's weekly scan - it is called msbb.exe (I think). Norton cannot remove this file. I have just stopped trying to get it off my ... Read more

when I wanted to buy a new laptop, I was told, I would have to buy all new software since Vista won't run most of the older programs, especially 64-bit need apparently different drivers.
I bought a used laptop with XP therefore. I like the programs I bought and can't afford to update constantly when Windows changes/

I guess you will have to contact the software vendor.

Summary:Microsoft is planning to roll out a new browser when it debuts Windows 10, according to sources. But IE isn't going completely away.

There's been talk for a while that Microsoft was going to make some big changes to Internet Explorer in the Windows 10 time frame, making IE "Spartan" look and feel more like Chrome and Firefox.

It turns out that what's actually happening is Microsoft is building a new browser, codenamed Spartan, which is not IE 12 -- at least according to a couple of sources of mine.

Thomas Nigro, a Microsoft Student Partner lead and developer of the modern version of VLC, mentioned on Twitter earlier this month that he heard Microsoft was building a brand-new browser. Nigro said he heard talk of this during a December episode of the LiveTile podcast.

Hi there!

First off I'd like to say I am new to this site, but for the brief time that I've been reading here, I find your info unbelievably amazing! THANK YOU in advance to the whole response team!

From reading a bit from previous post (by same title abve) - I believe I have the SAME or similar problem as poster Chantel!

I would like to comment first on poster/user "Chantel" - You seem to have much knowledge and know what you are doing. Seems you know alot about computers.

And for the responder/admin -- MYRTI MYRTI -- WOW man!!! You are like a super genius!!! I suspect the rest of the team here are as well!

So to start, I basically have the same problem, HelpAssistant folder kept re-creating itself on my HDD, system slowed down, system crashed and froze many times. In addition to Chantel's case, I noticed a number of ports opened in my windows firewall. Every time I kept closing or deleting them they came right back when the system was re-booted. So before posting anything else, what would you like me to do?

Thank you so much for any help given!

Hi Is there any (ideally open source) software for Windows that can be used on a PC, to monitor the usage of internet from that PC? It would need to include both browser and non-browser sources (e.g. a service that sync's calendar to gmail). So any software on your PC that uses would need to be configured to point to this local internet monitoring software/proxy. The monitoring software/proxy then would be configured to point to the company proxy server (address, port & credentials). Things that come to mind that might be close but not really focused on solving this might be perhaps: Charles Proxy, Fiddler 2, SQUID? The idea would be it could give you a daily/weekly/monthly report of internet upload/download usage on a per program/process/service basis for the PC it is being run on. thanks PS The scope is only monitor Internet usage for the PC that the software is running on. It's just aimed at tracking my own Internet usage at work on my PC from the point of view of the various software I have that does sync to Internet.

A:software to monitor internet usage on an XP PC? (browser + non-browser)

Only thing I know of that comes close it NetLimiter. But I would bet Squid could do it but that is way over my head.

My HP Notebook - 15-r264dx TouchSmart (ENERGY STAR) - Will not power on. After dissasembling it, I found that the connection between the small board containing the power button and the 4 wire ribbon cable that leads back to the motherboard was broken. I tried to fix it by pressing the four wires onto their contacts, and pressing the power button then. That did not work, probably indicating that once the connection is broken, it cannot be put back. So I either need to find a fix for that, or purchase a replacement part. The part is: TMT YA-4A1  54V-0  E114139 (It would need to be both the power button chip and the ribbon cable, connected.) ps. The computer works aside from the power button malfunction, as I touched two of the contact wires in the ribbon cable together and it turned on. Also, I do not know whether it is a 64 bit or 32 bit, but I doubt that will have any weight on the solution.

i have a windows xp home o/s on a dell dimension 8200
last week i casually deleted my video driver instead of a similarly named program which i did not want. for several days i could not see anything on my monitor. while i was out getting the startup discs from my brother in law who has the same computer (system and all) because my house ate my set, my sister was trying to "help" fix it by putting in the emergency boot and repair disks i made for a different computer... a dell 4300 with ME o/s... and when i got back... well, lets just say i was unhappy.

the computer refused to acknowledge that i had a hard drive so i popped in the o/s cd from dell and added another partition so now i can see and use my computer.

now, is there any way i can get my other information back? when i open computer management, and click on disk management i see two partitions on Disk 0 :

( )
37.27 GB FAT
Healthy (EISA Configuration)

(C: )
37.25 GB NTFS
Healthy (System)

if i make the ( ) the active partition it goes back to being unable to load (but still there)

any thoughts on this situation (besides what i can do to my sister) would be very much appreciated.

try Partition magic or Disk magic. You may be able to re-activate your partition with those. Otherwise you'll need a program to recover your files. I just used File Scavanger ($40) to recover files from a hard drive that got trashed from a major system failure. I regained 80% of my files, fortunately about 95% of my most important ones. Most of the other programs are $90 & up. Good luck and make your sister pay for these programs

I recently reformatted my main (of 2) partition (holding Windows XP home and program files, the C drive) due to a virus. All my files were on a 2nd partition (D) that wasn't formatted in order to save my files. After reinstalling WinXP, I then moved my files to the OS partition, and formatted the 2nd partition as well, trying to give my whole drive a good clean. Unfortunately, when rebooting, my machine wouldn't start up because "NTLDR file is missing".

I realized it was looking for NTLDR on the D: drive (Files drive) and thus solved the problem by using my XP setup CD to copy NTLDR, ntdetect.com, and Boot.ini on to the D: drive. Then I ran Bootcfg from the XP setup CD recovery consol to set Boot.ini to point to my windows XP installation on the C: drive. So, now it starts up fine, but clearly my computer is recognizing the D: partition as the "Active" partition, when the C: partition really should be it!

So, I would like to get things back to normal but I can't figure out how to reset which partition is considered "Active". When I use PartitionMagic, the option to "Set as Active..." my C: partition is unavailable, in part, I suspect, because for some reason my OS partition (with WinXP on it, C is set up as a "Logical" partition, and not a "Primary" partition. Alright here is my issue as best as I can explain it. I have two drives, one with a system partition one with my boot. The one with the boot is the drive I want to use as my primary. I want to format the drive with the system partition.

How can I move the sys partition to the boot drive so that I can format the other since right now disk management will not let me format the drive with the sys partition.

Picture for more info
Disk 3/Vol6 is what I want to save and align sys/boot too. Disk 4/Vol7 is what I want to format.
Thanks a lot!

A:System Part and Boot Part Diff Drives. Want to Align SYS and BOOT

On second thought- use easybcd - it has a very easy change boot drive option.

The HP Pavilion w1907v is a 19" wide-screen monitor and is not a computer.

We need a description(brand name, model name, model number) of your computer.

If perchance your computer is also a HP brand, advise us what its exact product number(P/N) is.

There are a lot of protocols from C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger in my log that I don't think are normal, and the last line of the log (O23 - Service: Web Update Service by PowerProgrammer (WebUpdate) - Data Perceptions / PowerProgrammer - C:\WINDOWS\system32\WebUpdateSvc.exe) is iffy. Can I or should I remove them? Anything else that needs attention? I haven't noticed any ill effects, other than this morning when I was cleaning out my temp files and ran across a file that it won't let me delete (ladHide5.dll), which by its name doesn't sound good (or maybe it is if it is hiding ads). I am attempting to use my Internet but it will not let me to put it straightforwardly. It shows a connection but will not let me use it. I ran the troubleshooter and it tells me I'm missing one or more network protocols and asks me if I'd like to try fixes as admin. I obviously click yes and it shows that the problem is fixed when it is not. So I run the troubleshoot again and it goes through the same loop. I have tried to go into the advanced network setting and disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP like I was recommended but nothing there. Any tips?

Problem trying to connect to internet on laptop, but all working as normal on desktop.

Investigations revealed....one or more Network Protocols are missing on this computer, also Windows sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing....this on both Ethernet and wireless but they had been working perfectly since the update last week.

My laptop supposedly required "Internet connections Package Version 3.0 Publisher Microsoft Windows."

After messing about for an hour without success I loaded the 1511.. ISO.. knowing that I could not connect to the internet to download anything, this seemed to solve the problem, (fingers crossed) I can only assume this made the internet connection possible.

Windows troubleshooter said that I have "Missing Socket Level Protocols". Had to restart the PC and wait a few minutes just to type this message. Another day of Windows-10 error investigation begins.

I have recently fitted a Belkin Wireless G router.
I have had some problems with my chat programs (MSN and Yahoo) where some of my friends replies have not come through.
I spoke to the help section of Belkin and they need to know the Port Number and Protocols of the chat programs. They would then enable me to open the ports as they are blocked by the router.
I have tried to contact both MSN and Yahoo but no joy.
How can I find this information out other than keep trying to contact MSN and Yahoo?
I hope someone might help.
Thank you in advance.
