I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Preinstalled Windows product key

Mahbubur_Rifat Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! Your product key is still on the PC. On Win8 machines and newer, the product key is embedded into the UEFI firmware of the motherboard. You can retrieve is using this tool: http://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/2577-showkey.html Howver, what you SHOULD use to restore your PC is HP Recover Media and that will automatically find and reuse the product key. HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/driversOnce there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while! If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/Good Luck

I was curious if the bios of a computer that is licensed with Windows 10 pro but comes preinstalled with Windows 7 Pro through downgrade rights, already has the Windows 10 product key in the bios, or if it's inserted when using the Lenovo USB recovery disk to install Windows 10?

So I'm trying to find out my preinstalled OS's product key. Since there are things that xp sp3 needs this code so it doesnt go into limited access/useage. If that is still true of xp sp3 then how do I find it, I honestly cant remember if there was a way.

SP3 will not need the Product Key . . but, if the pc is from one of the major manufacturers, it will be on a sticker on the side of the tower, bottom of a laptop

Ive used pirated bootables with preinstalled product keys in the past but am now on the straight and narrow, wanting to add my product key to my legitimate copy of windows 8. This way I wont have to worry about having it written down, losing it or entering it incorrectly, since it will be automagically entered for me.

Does anyone know how I can add the product key to my bootable image?

No need to add product key to a Windows 8 image, as the installer will see the key in the BIOS.

Where is the Windows 8 Product Key?

Factory-installed Windows 8 computers differ from previous versions of Windows. Previously, the Product Key for Windows was attached as a label on the computer so that, in the event that the computer required reinstallation, the key could be referenced for activation.

For Windows 8, the Product Key is "injected" onto the computer motherboard at the factory, and the installation and activation processes refer to the BIOS of the computer to verify authenticity and activate Windows. No Windows Product Key is otherwise provided or needed by the customer.

Have MS Office preinstalled when I got my hp convertible but how can I get product key for the activation?

A:Have preinstalled ms office but need product key

@Mohammadali1 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!First of all, you need to know that HP keeps no records of individual MS Office product keys associated with individual PCs. That means there is no way to obtain this information from HP.Second, ever since Office 2013, MS Office has been distributed in two different forms: (1) installed locally, (2) installed using Click-to-Run (CTR).  The local versions used a product key received with the purchase (or via email, from a download), the CTR versions used a product key received via email from MS, but it was NOT stored on the PC. If you have the Local version, you should be able to retrieve that key using these utilities:  https://www.lifewire.com/free-product-key-finder-programs-2625119 If you have the CTR version, the key is not stored locally, and you can only get it by contacting Microsoft.Good Luck

So I have this Lenovo laptop with a preinstalled Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit, and somehow I managed to mess with it to the point that I can't boot to normal or safe mode, and refresh or reset the system. I have tried different methods to fix this (renaming software to software.001, trying to boot to safe mode, etc) yet no success. One of my friends told me that the OS is corrupted, so I want to do a clean reinstallation of Windows 8.1 but given a preinstalled machine, I don't have the CD with me. I haven't downloaded an installation media from microsoft website yet because I realized I don't know the product key. I have searched through my laptop's box and case with no result. With that done said, can I know my windows product key while I cannot even boot? (I'm stuck in windows recovery environment)

P.S. I dont really know much about computer so please forgive me if I sometimes sound dumb

Has Microsoft changed something in the latest April Windows Updates?
I create a default Windows 8 Enterprise VL image on my laptop in audit mode as I have always done previously.  Nothing has changed from my side.
When I install the image via WDS, everything installs fine.
When I use my WIM file to install via USB, it now comes up with:
The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.
right after selecting the install language.
I have checked EI.cfg and it is normal:
[EditionID]
Enterprise
[Channel]
Volume
[VL]
1
I then tried adding PID.TXT with my Enterprise KMS key and, rather than error it then prompts me for a product key.
Surely using the VL install media it should never ask for a product key.  It never has before. (And I've never had to before)
I prepped the image as normal using:
C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:C:\Windows\win8unattend.xml
Any ideas?  I can't but help thinking something has changed in the latest batch of Windows Updates.  It's quite frustrating as not all my machines are capable of PXE, so I have to use USB.
The reason I think it is a recent change, is if I do a default install and DO NOT do any Windows Updates, it all works fine.  Only when I install the latest WU does it start doing this.

A:[NEW] The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.

OK, So I've fixed it now, but I will still like to know WHY this has changed.

If i do this to my WIM, it then installs from USB:

imagex /flags "Enterprise" /info c:\temp\WIM\ME\install.wim "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86" "Win8Office2013Enterprise-x86"

I wonder because I use the WDS capture image if this has somehow changed recently.
Very annoying, but now at least I can install my custom image :)

So short story, I work at a college tech site that fixes student and faculty computers. A foreign exchange student from Japan with a Sony Vaio (most likely from Japan as well) managed to get a virus on his computer and he was blocked off our network. Our policy is that we wipe and reinstall the OS to ensure that the virus is gone. However, we didn't have any Windows 7 Home Prem media CDs so I downloaded a Win7 Home Prem 32bit iso off of MSDN and burnt it to disk. However, when entering the product key given on the bottom of the laptop(and I've checked 3 times now to make sure it's correct), I get a:

"Product key does not match the current Windows SKU" error.

Why is this happening? Do I need a certain burnt iso (from Sony in Japan?) because of the laptop's foreign origins or is something else causing the problem here?

A:Product Key Does Not Match Current Windows SKU (Foreign product key?)

Yes, you need a Japanese iso, they have regional editions.

Ok I have a question from a friend who I couldnt answer so I will ask it for him here.

He recently bought a Dell XPS 410 that has WindowsXP on it. He bought it right before the change over to Vista. Anyhoo, He doesnt have Windows Recovery disk, but he does have a priated version of WindowsXP. My question is, say his OS had to be reinstalled could he use a program like Jelly Bean and get the key from his current system, write it down and use it when he reloads windows with this priated copy? Would Microsoft recognize it as being genuine? I told him he shouldnt be using the pirated copy, and just go out and buy the Vista, but he was curious, in fact so am I. Thanks!

Wow if you do not like Windows 10 I cannot see how Windows 8 is going to be any better. You would have to purchase Windows 8 and install from scratch. My advice is against it but happy to help just will not support it unless you confirm you have a licensed copy of Windows 8 (actually you would want 8.1) to install then we can walk through the steps.

I need to downgrade and in my search for a way to return to windows 7 Ive come across these downgrade rights for windows 8 professional. My thoughts are to upgrade to pro using my school email for $40 then downgrading to 7 but I dont see mention of this option to downgrade anywhere. This seems like my cheapest option, otherwise I will have to buy a copy of 7 brand new and do a clean install. Is the option to downgrade only available on machines with Windows 8 Pro preinstalled, and if so why???
...and yes, im sure I want to go back to 7 as the programs I use most frequently for school and are given to me by my university only work on windows 7.
This is the link to downgrade rights:
Understanding downgrade rights

A:Need to downgrade windows 8 non-pro that was preinstalled

i'm not sure about the downgrade options, it was usually part of some systems that came with 7 pro to downgrade to xp for business reasons, but that didn't come with every 7 pro system.

buying windows 7 may be your only option.

Why was,I aked to activate the key of my wiindows 8.1,as the key should have automatically been preinstalled when I bought the product? How and where can I find it to activate?

A:How can i get key activation of the preinstalled windows 8.1

Hi: You are correct.  The embedded W8.1 product key in the BIOS should have automatically activated W8.1. I have zipped up and attached a free utility below, that you can run, and it will provide the W8.1 product key in the BIOS. If there is no product key, then HP installed the wrong motherboard in your PC (one without the W8.1 product key). Some model x360-11 variations come with FreeDOS and those motherboards would not have product keys in the BIOS. If that is the case, you will have to contact HP technical support for the country you live in and report the problem to them. Hopefully, they will issue you a W8.1 OEM product key you can use to activate windows. You can see from the service manual below, chapter 3, pages 16-17, that there are system boards with or without windows product keys. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04644012

Newbie here, so please forgive me if mistakes are made.

About a month ago the "not genuine window" started to come up. (system says Windows is activated)

I've tried all the methods on the forum I've seen so far with the exception of the newest I've seen where the user (Vanillarose) had to download and extract a file called "sluicom64.zip".

I tried the Command prompt query and got the same results.

I wanted to wait for advice before trying their method.

Hello, I want to reformat my hard drive and reinstall my Windows Xp Home Edition Operating System. I know that this can be accomplished by using the recovery partition on the hard drive, or by using the recovery CDs. However these options will restore the PC to its factory shipped condition, and the computer will have all kinds of software and trial offers that I don't want, or can't use. How can I install the Windows operating system only, and not include this software with it? I don't have a bootable Windows disk because the PC came with Windows preinstalled. I'm pretty sure there is a directory called I386 on the hard drive, which contains an image of the Operating System disk. I would appreciate any help on this issue. Thanks.

A:Preinstalled Windows - No Disk

Most of this depends on the make and model of your system - as certain copies of the OS are locked to the make of the system (like Dell).

But, in the easiest vein - why not reset it to factory default - then uninstall all the crap that you don't need?

Hi @vipinuly?, As I understood, you want to create one additional partition on the unit. If you are using Hp Provided OEM OS image, it doesn't allow you to create partition while installing OS.  But you may add partition after OS installation, but this is not recommended by hp.  You can only create Physical partition or volume with Retail OS image.  Below are few links to help to create additional partition To Create a partition or logical drive: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/library/cc727978(v=ws.10).aspx https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17418/windows-7-create-format-hard-disk-partition  NOTE: With hp OEM OS image, Performing Recovery on the unit, will wipe out all the created partition and the data as well on those. Hence It is always suggested to take data backup before performing Recovery on the unit. I hope that answers your question.  I am an HP employee, the opinions expressed here are my personal opinions, not of HP. Make it easier for other people to find solutions, by marking my answer ?Accept as Solution? if it solves your problem. ***Click on "Thumbs up" button to the left side of my post to acknowledge the post ***

SO after 10 months of windows 10, I can honestly say that this new OS despite being great, is bottlenecking my laptop.

To start up my laptop, it will take 15 mins, after I have fixed all the problems that windows 10 has giving me.
I have been ragging my heels to revert back to windows 7, as I really do love windows 10. but when i cannot run simple programs and despite have a 64bit program and laptop, I can only run 32 bit programs.

My laptop can pre-installed with win 7.
I do not have the recovery option to revert back to windows 7 in the settings.
I do not have a windows 7 disc to go back to.

Can someone please assist me in making sure I can go back, begrudgingly I might add, to windows 7, so I can at least open 2 tabs in my internet program. I cant even open google because it strains my laptop.

Thanks

Hello everyone, I have a bit of a situation on my hands and I'm hoping you guys can help me out.

I purchased a new CyberPowerPC Gaming desktop from Best Buy the other day, and I finally got it online today. While I was poking around in settings to get some updates going, the notice "Windows is not activated" caught my eye. I clicked the link and was taken to this screen...

I ran the ShowKeyPlus program and got the following result...

Why is my Windows 10 installation not genuine, and how can I fix it?

Thanks
Matt

.Judging by the PID it looks like a generic key.... and there is no OEM key to activate it...

Was it sold as a pre-install or "barebones"?

Hello,
I've bought a new laptop (https://www.toshiba.de/innovation/jsp/supportMyProduct.do?service=DE#tab0;)
2-3 weeks ago. First everything went well. But then few days ago Windows 8.1 startet to freak out. Lots of functions didn't work anymore:
couldn't activate Firewall nor Defender
couldn't Change Settings sometimes
coudn't refresh nor reinstall Windows
.... and so on

So I decided to "repair/reinstall" Windows with CD from my friend because there were no CD from toshiba when i bought the laptop. After that, all Problems were solved, except the activation-problem. This time I finally got an errorcode :0xC004C003. Which means that my key was presumably was blocked all the time. How can this be?

I found out that the CD from my friend is Windows Pro and I think I only had normal Windows. But why didn't work it BEFORE I "repaired " my PC with the "wrong" Windows Pro CD? Why did Windows want me to aktivate Windows suddenly out of nothing ? I tried to get a proper recovery CD from Toshiba but it is quite expensive (about 40 euros!!!!!!!!) and I don't think this can solve my Problem.

A:Aktivating preinstalled Windows 8.1

Every new notebook offered with preinstalled Windows is actually preinstalled with ?recovery image? designed for certain notebook model. Recovery image is software package that includes Windows operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tools/utilities and some additional software.
This preinstalled recovery image is also saved on HDD as back-up that allows you so called ?HDD recovery image installation? in case that there is some problem with preinstalled OS that you got with your machine. Every notebook owner can also create recovery media (USB or DVD) using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator. This recovery media can be also used for recovery image installation if HDD recovery installation doesn't start anymore or in case when HDD is damaged and must be replaced. All this is described in user?s manuals document. I presume you were not informed about it and you didn?t create this recovery media. Since about 5 years Toshiba doesn't offer installation discs with new notebooks. Recovery media must be created by notebook owner.

Please note: original recovery image must not be activated. You can install it 1000 times and every time after first connection to the internet OS will be activated automatically.

After clean OS installation (non recovery media installation) you will not be able to install recovery image using HDD recovery option. It works with ?factory settings? only.

You have two options now:
1/ To order original recovery installatio... Read more

I want to swap out the hdd for an ssd instead.

How would I install the OS on the new ssd with a usb drive?

Also once I get the OS on the new ssd would all the drivers automatically install?

I don't even know that much about bios etc.......I'm a bit of a noob.

The asus didn't include restore/install disks either.

Any help would be great.

Pleas help me how do I install windows 7 on this Vaio as there is no guide for this specific platform. Thanks

Hello. I think I'm losing my mind here and now I think I'm lost. Been googling and circling around for hours. So, I have an ASUS Vivobook laptop here, which has a preinstalled Windows 8. Now I'd like to downgrade to Windows 7, which I got thanks to my school having a deal with DreamSpark.
So I have a Windows 7 Professional ISO which I got from DreamSpark. Then I tried to create a bootable memory stick with Rufus, based on this tutorial:
UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows

But when I'm pressing the "Start" button to start the process, it gives me an error:
title: "Unsupported ISO"
"When using UEFI Target Type, only EFI bootable ISO images are supported. Please select an EFI bootable ISO or set the Target Type to BIOS."

So there seems to be a problem with my ISO. Is there a way to modify the ISO? Or what should I do in order to get the ISO readable for Rufus?
Cheers!

A:Problems downgrading preinstalled Windows 8 to Windows 7 on ASUS Vivo

Try downloading a fully legal ISO from here: Windows 7 Direct Download Links

Use that as input to Rufus, see if it works. Make sure you get the one that matches what you got from DreamSpark so the installation key will work and you can active. You want the SP1 U (media refresh) version.

Since the computer that came with Windows 8 is probably UEFI/Gpt based rather than BIOS/MBR, see here:

How can I download windows 7 from the internet and install on my computer that came with windows 8.1 preinstalled. I need help. I am taking a class that I have to have windows 7

A:downloading and installing windows 7 on a preinstalled 8.1

I would create a partition to install Windows 7 on, without a key you won`t be able to activate it, so you DO NOT won`t to wipe out Windows 8. Or..... you could just install 7 in a VM.

Download the windows 7 iso file from here and burn to dvd or flash stick to install 7.

This is a great tutorial and good luck

You shouldn't run into any problems as you don't need an activated Windows 7 to perform a clean Windows 8 install. Here's a helpful guide for a Windows 8 install (just in case you need it):

Error message -- "Cyberlink Power Media Player does not support the playback of this media format"  This is a well known issue with HP with Windows 10.  HP document has procedure to uninstall that I have and download SoftPaq SP71924 and then it install it.  Knowing the problem and the fix to correct the problem, now how do I get the file from HP.  I can not do a search for it.  I continually need to re-enter my type of equipment, serial number, etc and never get anywhere in HP Support to get the file needed.  So just how is it that while knowing the file to get to correct HP's issue do I actually go about getting that actual file.  Seems HP goes out of their way to make it difficult to get file.

I have my PC about 3 or 4 years ago with preinstalled windows 7 . I've created 5 dvd's for recovery . I found out one of the dvd's might be damaged . I've tried to download windows from microsoft then :-           a) The OEM windows iso download is redirecting me to the manufacurer which is hp.       b) The manufacturer drivers page doesn't show "recovery media " software , means "not supported" .       c) Available ISO on internet are for OEM windows , not the pre installed OS on my hp notebook . So , it doesn't accept my windows product number . THIS TAKES ME BACK TO POINT (a).       d) This is an endless loop . CONCLUSION:- 1. IMPOSSIBLE TO RECOMMEND HP NOTEBOOKS.2. IMPOSSIBLE TO RECOMMENT ANY PREINSTALLED OS . AS IT'S NOT SUPPORTED BY MICROSOFT.

Hi,
I bought a new netbook (aspire one 756-887Xkk) just a week ago with windows 8 x64 preinstalled. Now I want to upgrade my netbook with an SSD doing a clean install as I think there's way too much acer bloat on this device. How do I go about this? This netbook uses UEFI bios v2.01 and secure boot and has 4 partitions on disk 0. I tried just downloading an MSDN iso to USBdrive and install it regularly in hopes of windows activation picking up the OEM license hardcoded in my bios. I also tried cloning the disk with no luck. Oh, I have no problem upgrading to a full/Retail version, especially if that will grant me a CD-key then that I can use in the future.

THanks in advance for any help, it's much appreciated!
