Svchost crashed, windows start up crashed, local session manager crashed

Q: Svchost crashed, windows start up crashed, local session manager crashed

I have first been getting these problems when I downloaded Comodo IS Pro. Apparently when I approached them for help, the technician did not reply to me after telling me to install.

Thus I did a system restore and the computer could load in normal mode(however the screen, etc loaded slow like hell.)

Yesterday, I downloaded comodo firewall and something familiar appeared

From Problem Reports and solution, these are the service that crashed:

4X svchost.exe
1X lsm.exe
1X sandboxie.exe
1X wininit.exe

But guard32.dll from comodo is the module causing it according to Problem Reports and Solution, but anyone knows why and how to solve it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you tried uninstalling Commodo to see if it is causing the problem?

Hi, I love this site and you guys have helped me so much, so first of all, thank you!

Now the bad news.... I got the WIndows Vista Repair virus about a month ago on my Acer PC. At first, it ran all of those warning messages and then it shut down the computer and reloaded as what appeared to be a completely wiped computer. The only icon on the desktop was the Windows Vista Repair. I tried to find programs by searching for a few minutes before trying to shut down (which the virus had also made me incapable of doing), and resorting to popping out the battery to shut it down. I restarted in safe mode with networking and tried to get on this site, but even in safe mode my browser was auto-redirecting me to sales sites. By following instructions for removal on this site, and downloading programs onto a flash drive from a different computer, I was able to get my computer in working order again, although it would still, at times, randomly shut down my internet browser (and the process and amount of time I spent getting it just to that state of operation was ridiculous, much worse than any virus I've EVER had...I can explain what all happened and the steps I took if necessary). A couple of weeks later, I left my computer on while I went to a friend's house for the night, and when I came back in the morning I couldn't get it to unfreeze. I shut it down and for the next two days, every time I tried to turn it on it would just run on a loop, booting up part of the way bu... Read more

IMO, the best free software to do the recovery from a RAW disk is Test Disk. TestDisk - CGSecurity

It can be a little daunting for the first time user, and so take your time to read through all the documentation.

First use PhotoRec in it - which does not write anything to the drive in question - and try to recover the files.

Then you can use TestDisk and try to rewrite the partition. Some people have reported that even after restoring the partition with TestDisk, the drive remained RAW but they were able to recover most files using the option to copy.

Whether PhotoRec or TestDisk, it is going to take a lot of time to recover the files. Copy them to another external drive with adequate capacity.

You may find some help here to understand the usage.

Windows 7 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8300 @ 2.83GHz
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT video card

It started when I had WoW running, my system would crash randomly (only in WoW though).
Then it would crash before I even logged into the game (at the login screen).
Then it crashed with no programs running and wouldn't start Windows again.

It crashed maybe a total of 10 times over 2 days and I had to manually shut down each time.
Sometimes when it crashed I would get blue dots across the screen.

Now when it starts up I get black dots on the first screen, then blue dots, then a Windows Error Recovery screen with blue vertical streaks.
It does a startup repair and there are red dots everywhere and it says it cannot repair this computer automatically.

What do I do now, throw this 2 year old piece of trash out the window?

A:Crashed and can't start Windows

Ok, lets start from scratch.

1) Upon power up, can you access the BIOS configuration screens? If so, does it look normal or does it have visual errors (streaks, dots, etc.)?

2) If BIOS looks normal, can you boot into safe mode? If so, does it look normal or does it have visual errors?

Let me know.

There was a power outage where I live today and since then my computer won't start up. I am running Windows XP Pro. When I turn it on, this is the message that I get:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x0000006B (0x00000185, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I tried booting into Safe Mode, but I am getting the same message. I went to the Microsoft webpage and I can't seem to find a fix for it. I would rather not have to reinstall Windows, because I don't want to lose my files (Unless the files in My Documents will remain).

If someone can guide me to a webpage or give me any information to restore the system. Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thank you in advance.

Hello, my laptop (Windows Vista) recently started to freeze when it starts.

* I have full scanned with AVG, NOD32 (100% updated)
* I updated the system updates that windows offers
* I used Registry Boost to fix a lot of errors in the reg
* I used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

and still it happens...

something curious:
- after it crashed it don't remember the desktop icons position
- if you ctrl+alt+del it say an error
- the mouse still moves
- it happens 80% of the times (if i am in the 20%, nothing will happen, if it didnt crash at start, it wont)
i have a theory that it might be something of my graphics? or probably a virus or malware?

I dont know, i have done all i know to try to fix it except this:

and then the sound that the laptop emit (while turning on) it suddenly stops until you can't hear almost nothing (it should make more noise because allegedly it is thinking very hard) but when it crashed it stop thinking

but the mouse don't, and when it crashes. whatever window you click it will turn into white, then if you click again the whole monitor turns white (you can still see the windows, but is more white, like a oppacity %very low with white background)

PD4: my laptop have a little button (the one that when you close the lap, it hibernates) , when it crashes, if i manually click the button (or close the lap, which is the same) it turns everything black but it keep running, and when i remove (or open) the lap (or the button) within .01 seconds the black monitor quickly goes away (i am sure it didn't hibernate as it is supposedly should happen)

i don't know if this last PD will help... but i will try to give all info possible

Hi, I have a compaq presario C40, I want a suggestion from you guys what to do because during start-up it does'nt load completely and it crashed always with blue screen appears, I made a decision to reformat it but i dont know how. can you please help me what to do.

A:Windows 7 Crashed, Unable to Start-Up completely

Hi,

Don't reformat yet. First of all, boot into safe mode WITH networking (if you don't know how - Getting into Windows Safe Mode) and then:

Please navigate to C:/Windows/Minidump and zip up any dump files located there that you'd like to have analyzed, and then attach that zip here. If there are no dumps located in C:/Windows/Minump, you may be writing full memory dumps to C:/Windows, and it'll be called MEMORY.DMP.

If there are no dumps in either of those locations, but you know you have a page file set up, any "cleaner" programs such as TuneUp Utilities, CCleaner, etc, will delete this upon use.

Patrick

Folks,

I have a Dell XPS17 l702x laptop which is rapidly becoming unusable.  Its OS is Windows 7 x64 Pro.

Its problem appears to be that a number of services are not running, primarily Plug and Play, which has stopped.  When trying to start it I get error 2 ""The system cannot find the file specified".   A number of other services including the audio system, and virtual disk won't start either because they are dependent on Plug & Play.

I have run the sfc - which passes fine.

I have run MBAM a number of times (I have the paid for edition so it should be keeping an eye on things anyway).  It passed - however on some restarts MBAM reports the anti-rootkit module won't load (error 20025). Malwarebytes advised removing MBAM and re-installing.  I did that.  That fix lasted about a day, and today I am now back to square one with the same error as before, plus error code 20023.

I have just tried to do a re-installation of Windows 7 (the upgrade type, thus leaving all data in place).  That failed to start because the virtual disk cannot be started.

I note that about 60 windows updates are waiting to install - but I cannot get them to install.  No doubt related to the lack of the correct services.

possible that you have some bad random access memory (RAM) in your computer microsoft provides a free memory checker you can run off a cd or floppy disk. you can get the program here http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp this should provide you with if you have bad memory in your computer. if it won;t let you boot at all into windows and gives you a blue screen of death the memory should fail right away but if it doesnt let it do a few passes to verify probally 5 times should be enough.

otherwise something happened to the OS you could put the OS disk in and do a repair install if the memory passes the test to see if that gets you anywhere

Hey. I was watching a film in Media Center yesterday and suddently it just froze. The picture on the screens (duel) stayed the same and I could not get my pc to respond to anything, not even Ctrl Alt Del. So after giving it a min to see if it would recover I decided to restart it by the power button but it just turned off at first touch. (Usually have to hold for a few seconds)..

Ever since then, when I power it up, all the lights and fans go on but then instead of the sounds im used to, the fans seem not to speed up as much and then nothing else happens. No beeps, fans at constant speed, no signal to the monitor. etc.

Has anyone got any idea what the problem might be? The green light is on, on my motherbored suggesting that power is getting to it?? i think.. I had the power supply replaced a couple of months ago as I had a simular problem before. But before the fans did not turn on, so I doubt its the power supply..

I will try and get the details of my machine filled out on my profile soon, but im not sure on the exact details atm as i cant start it up.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

cheers.

A:My PC crashed and will not start up again! Help please?

and I forgot... I took the cover off just to check everything was plugged in and nothing had come loose. Everything seemed fine apart from there was an unbelieveable amount of dust. It had built up so badley on the motherboard fan/heatsink that the fan did not turn without friction. So I cleaned out all the dust from that fan, and the two graphics cards and tried again and still nothing. All fans still turn on but sound a little faster now but nothing else happens still..

Could all that dust of damaged something?

Hi all, so last night I got the blue screen of death, and when I went to restart it, it says "Windows cannot start because the following file is missing or corrupt Windows\System32\config/system" Please use recovery cd and hit "r" during bootup blah blah

So obviously my system file is screwed up. But I can't even get into windows to replace it. Is there any way that I can fix this? My CD-R doesn't work anymore (It quit a year or so ago for some reason?) and I don't know where the recovery cd is at anyways. Is it possible to start windows via floppy or flash drive? I have a huge amount of files on my computer that cannot be replaced. If it is possible, could somebody point me in the right direction? Thank you!

Edit- So I just tried to boot it by using floppy, everything seemed to be going well until it got to the 4th disk which it then stopped and said "Adpu160m.sys is corrupted, setup failed" This is so annoying....you try to fix one problem and in order to get to it you have to fix 10 other ones first. *rolls eyes*

Hello everyone, as the title says, I was just talking with some friends on skype and then the computer froze like when it's going to give you a BSOD but instead of that it just froze, so I turned it off and now the computer won't even show BIOS menu. RAMs are fine, they were tested by the retailers for 48 hours with memtest and tested by me for 24 hours (when the computer used to work).

So to give you a clearly idea of what's happening, I press the power on button, there's a beep and the computer starts, right? my pc powers up but it never beeps, the CD/DVD reader works, the processor starts up, but it's just stuck there. I checked on the motherboard's user guide and it doesn't say anything about "not beeping"

Thank you.

I had this problem a few times it could be several things.
loose internal connections?
starting up from wrong device area?
burned out hard drive?
when you turn it on how far into start-up does it go?

My laptop suddenly stopped working and wouldn't start....the fan came on but there was no life. Very occasionally I have managed to get it to run for short times which has allowed me to save my important files to DVD and sometimes blue-screens..... I'm assuming my Hard drive is knackered? I decided to format the drive and reset it back to factory settings. I had the same issues so decided to try again to reset it. It crashed just before it had completed and the very rare times that I have managed to get it to start up it states that Windows wasn't insatlled and to reboot. I have tried this and the F8 option doesn't show me the choice of repair/install etc...It doesn't allow me to open using safe mode and I know nothing of bios etc....
I'm hoping to get it running just long enough to create a recovery DVD. (I didn't know that I should do this as a matter of course as my old laptop had them included. I have a new Hard-disc arriving so hope this may be the solution to the crashes but I need to be able to open the OS to allow me to create my disc/s?

Does anyone know a way to help me get the thing to allow me to repair?

Thanks

The Issue

Moved my computer to a new house, and did what you always do after moving, which is plug everything in to check nothing was broken during transport. Everything powered on fine, got to the desktop perfectly, no problems whatsoever. Put it to sleep for the night.

Couldn't sleep, so I got up and tried the computer. It wouldn't start up from sleep mode. Turned it off, but now when I try to turn it back on, I get lights for an instant, and no fan power, before the computer turns right off again. With the PSU plugged in, I still get motherboard lights on. Help!

A:PC crashed while in sleep, now won't start; no fan power

First; I would unplug your machine and then press and hold the power-on button for at least 10seconds, this will drain any residual power left in the electrical system especially the capacitors.

Reinstall the power plug and press the button to restart the machine, if the machine exhibits the same symptoms unplug again and open the case.
Make sure all connections are secure, your machine has taken a journey and even though it did start the first time the act of starting it up in its new environment could have caused enough vibration to jostle a connection loose. I would even go so far as re-seating the RAM sticks.

After checking all the connections and trying a restart, I'm hoping your problem is with the connections, but if it still exhibits the same behaviour, have you tried to use F8 to boot into Advanced Boot Options ?
I know it happens quickly, but try pressing that F8 key either repeatedly or continuously before you press the power button. If you can get to the advanced boot options screen try using "Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)", press enter or return key to finish booting.

Since you have motherboard lights, have you tried getting into the BIOS using the F2 or Delete key? If you are overclocking, return all settings to their defaults. Try restarting the machine.

What are your advanced power options for sleep? it would be better if you select hybrid instead of hibernate, see: Step 5 | Power Plan Settings - Change

i was on facebook after getting back from cali and the plane rides. and while on facebook my laptop completely froze so i powered if off bye holding the turn off button for like 5 seconds. and when i turned it back on it went to go to safemode or regular so i picked safemode. right after that i got blue screened. so i turned it off and restarted and it gave me 2 options. 1 to windows to repair it. and one to just start windows normally. so the first time i tried to repair and it makes a white bar at the bottom .. lol a loading screen and after it loads it goes to a black screen for like ever and dosent ever leave the black screen. so i tried the regular choice after restarting. and it makes me think like its going to start but right before the micrsoft symbol with the green little bar going back and forth it freezes with a faded micorsoft corperation sign at the bottom. and it freezes there is there anything i can do or do i have to just take it back. becuase bestbuy said call tech support or something. but i just decided to post here first.

My laptop crashed to the floor today, as it was turned on, and it immediately turned itself off, though the crash was not from a very high or dramatic altitude - just some inches. And now I can't start Windows again, not even in secure mode. A blue screen blinks by for a tenth of a second, and then the computer tries to reboot itself again. But it fails, and the start-up process goes into a loop, that always fails. I can however start the command prompt/DOS.

What does this indicate? Broken harddisk? Broken RAM? Anything else?

It is a Compaq EVO N800v with Windows XP. I don't want to try using Compaqs system restore disks until I have tried everything possible to try to save some information from the harddisk.

Any suggestions on how to rescue information from the harddisk? Could I connect the laptop to our other computers via our network in any way, when I can't start Windows? I can start DOS/the command prompt.

Would be grateful for any input!

A:My laptop crashed (literally!) and won't start

Kind of hard to tell. Could be any of number of things that may b broken or have becoe loose from the impact. Try removing the hard drive and boot to a boot diskette. If it boots to a disk the hard drive is probably bad.

I'm not even sure if this is the right forum for this but I think this would be the first step.

Computer is an hp pavilion dm4 with windows 7

I clicked something I don't think I should have and my screen turned off. Fearing Bad Things I tried to just turn it off and when that didn't work I pulled the cord and popped the battery. Now the laptop wont turn on at all. If I could get it on I could try and remove the virus if that is what it is. But the power button won't do anything at all so I don't think it is just a software issue at this point.

My fear is that the forced power failure might have done more harm than good.

For the record this is why I don't like laptops for general use. If it were a desktop I wold start pulling parts and seeing what doesn't work starting with the hard drive and I may still do that part but with a laptop I'm more weary about opening it up.

A:Computer crashed and wont start up

If you get no response from the power button, this is not related to a virus or other malicious software.

Possibilities:
bad power supply
broken power supply jack (where power supply plugs into computer)
bad internal power module
bad main board

Hello,

First of all, I am not able to boot up the computer in question - so I'm unable to do the DM Log collector to help get more information unfortunately.

Recently I was on my computer when an error popped up saying that some .exe files were missing. Shortly after the computer crashed to BSOD. Shut down, waited a few minutes, then restarted. On this restart a message came up saying that I was missing an operating system... Then BSOD again.
After researching threads about similar problems, I tried using Linux Mint to do a memory test which passed. Then I made an ultimate boot cd to research my problem further. Some of the features did not seem to work for me, but I did a Hard drive scan which said there was 10 bad sectors on one of the drives which happened to be the drive that had the windows partition from DELL, so naturally I thought this was the problem. I ordered a single SSD Drive to replace my 2 x WD velociraptors that were in a raid 0. Today I received the new SSD which I installed and was recognized in BIOS and I changed the hard drive configuration to AHCI rather than the old Raid. I booted from my windows 7 Ultimate disk to attempt a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Everything seemed to be going smooth - I saw the windows is loading files bar then the start to the windows load screen... Then an error came up saying windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may be the cause - restart and run windows repair. Then when I pressed e... Read more

After restart, my windows didnt start.. it completed the loading screen.. but the login menu didn't appear, instead i had a black screen.

i have tried numerous things, to get my pc working , but they haven't given me any results.

now my pc runs only in safe mode. the only way it works in normal mode , is when i delete my graphic card drivers from Device Manager, but that only works for ~5 minutes, and it's really slow , so i cant do anything.. afer 5 mins the black screen appears again.

i have also uploaded my Minidumps sine the crash.

A:Widnows XP crashed and won't start, black screen

I read five of your most recent dumps and they all cite the Nvidia display driver nv4_disp.dll as the cause of your issues.

Update your video card to the latest drivers. However, there could be the possibility that the card may be either overheating or is dying due to the symptoms you gave, i.e. "black and gray squares appeared to my screen"

So about 2 hours ago on my PC. I was playing WoW and had a hard crash and lock up. So I restarted my PC. Everything seemed fine. Just a mysterious crash. So I went on to updating my graphics drivers since it had been on my mind to do so. About half way into the update my desktop then crashed again. Only this time it cannot even get windows 7 64 bit to start up.

Then I ran the Start up Repair program. I get a message that it cannot repair it automatically.

On a history note. This PC has been pretty good to me. A few months back I had a bad run in where my RAM wasnt being read correctly and a simple re-docking fixed that. That was solved on this web forum as well. I don't know if its connected. Just a reference on history.

Other then that I'm not exactly sure how to go about on fixing this. I've never had a problem where even Windows wont boot up.

BSOD data is attached. I tried running perfmon / report in safe mode but I got an error. Saying the path couldnt be found.

No DMP files included in upload Please use this method.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

The first two appear to be caused by your video driver, while the last one is from Toshiba HDD Protection. I recommend removing the Toshiba HDD protection and reinstalling your video driver.

Hello Experts…

My laptop is completely crashed and I am soooo looking forward to your help and support.

Windows continually reboots after showing a blue screen at Startup. It happens very quickly and I cannot even see what is the message on the blue screen.
Background:

All as well when suddenly I got a lot of malware popups when I tried to open internet explorer.
Next thing, my system crashed with a blue screen and not would not start-up in normal mode at all…. Not even using the last known good configuration.
The only way system would start is in safe mode.
So I started in safe mode a few times with networking and tried to fix but nothing… it still has problems.

If I even try to open google.com in safe mode with networking after searching on something like fix blue screen error or online support / virus scan… on clicking the link there is some malware that overrides and open and advertisement page every time….

I had SUPERAntiSpyWare Free edition… but when I start and try to update the virus definitions… I get a message that a firewall or setting is blocking the access for SUPERAntiVirus to the internet.

I did run HijackThis and I tried to fix some of the registry problems myself --- ones it thought were causing this problem. Nothing got fixed and in hindsight I think I should have just got some help here. Nonetheless it did run… but I got an error that registry updated is not allowed by the Administrator.

I also ran chkdsk and nothing happened. It ran succe... Read more

This time I would like to upgrade to Windows 8 and still keep the Windows 7 (multiboot ?) which means I would have to create two more partition..one for Windows 8 and another one for Windows 8 recovery ? ? I would appriciate if you could instruct me how to do it in simple terms. At the moment my OS C drive 420 GB free of 453 GB and my HP Recovery D 1.11 free of 17.1 GB Thanks

A:Windows 8 crashed

Hello nesetceri,

Since this is a Windows 8 upgrade, you are not suppose to keep your Windows 7 (qualifying OS) activated since that it part of the EULA agreement with the purchase of the Windows 8 upgrade. That is why you get the upgrade cheaper instead of having to buy a more expensive full version (ex: system builder) of Windows 8.
If you like, you could leave Windows 8 not activated until you wish to delete Windows 7.
Dual Boot Installation - Windows 8 and Windows 7 or Vista
Hope this helps,

A few ways to fix it.

Easiest is if you can put the hard drive in a desktop.

Another way is to boot to Knoppix operating system on USB key.

And yet another easy way is to get to safe mode to remove AVG with the tool and get me the crash dumps.
