I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi peeps, here's a seemingly unsolvable problem I have:

I want to network my two PCs (An Acer Vista Laptop and my old HP XP Desktop) so that I can play network games (Operation Flashpoint).

So I connect them both wirelessly to the router (a cheap SWEEX one). Now when Iook on my Vista Laptop's Network place I can see the Laptop I'm using the router (and can access it's page and everything) but I can't see my XP desktop from here. And when I go into the Desktop's network places I can't see the router or either of the computers I'm using.

And I assume that this network problem is why I can't see a server in my game.

Now I understand that file and printer sharing is turned, the firewall is definately turned off and I think the appropriate services are turned on (well to make sure I turned every single service on ) There must be some more complex reason why my XP hates to network!

Although I am by no means a noob to general computing I am reasonably new to networking. Can you clever lot help me?

So i'm having an issue connecting my desktop to my home network for file sharing. My Desktop is connected to the internet like so: Desktop ->(Ethernet cable)-> Uverse 2wire router -> Internet.

I have no issues with my internet connection, and in fact I am posting this from my desktop now. Windows Network Diagnostics finds no issues when I run the trouble shooter. and when I try to connect to a home group it refers me to the network issue.

This issue has plagued me for about 6 months now. I have talked to Uverse tech support, and many of my friends who are into computers and have gotten no answers. Computer is running windows 7 SP1 and again the router is the Uverse 2wire router

How can I make my desktop available for network sharing?

Also here is a screenshot of the network map according to this computer

Hello, i am new here on the forum. Im looking for any gentle help i can get here from you guys who might be able to figure out my problem.
For some time ago (around 1 month) ive been having problems with my internet from time to time which include a really slow responding or sending into the internet. It is so that sometimes my ping goes up above 200ms and stays there for a quite some time (maybe an hour or more). I check my ping using cmd and typing "ping ping.sunet.se". I can also feel that the delay is huge when playing online games, so there is deffenitly something wrong with the sending and responding. Also when i check my connection in mb/s using some homepages that calculates it, like "bredbandskollen.se" (a swedish page). And here i see that the mb/s speed is prefectly fine (around 7mb/s recieving and 0.4-0.1mb/s sending). Not sure if the sending speed is accepting thou. And when my internet is busy, like when i am streaming something or things like that, my responding speed gets a bit better like 150ms, thou when my internet is doing fine and works as it should i usually stay around 20ms ^^ so something must be wrong.
Now i woundering what might cause my internet troubeling. Any thoughts would be great, thanks!

I have a Linksys BEFSR81 router and a Linksys WAP54G connected to it. I recently installed a Linksys Network Storage Link NSLU2 to the network with a Maxtor One Touch HD. I have been able to map the new network drive to my computer that is connected to the router, but I'm unable to map the drive on my second computer that is connected to the network via the AP. However I can ping the Linksys NAS from my wireless computer.

A:Mapping Network Drive on Wireless Network Problem

like most NAS devices, the Linksys nslu2 has built in security administered through a web browser. You probably need to create a user acount for the wirelessly-attached computer, either by machine name, IP address, user id, or some combination of the above. You may also have to grant permission to the user or user group for the specific share you are trying to map. hope this helps.

So im at a complete loss here....

I have a windows 7 pro x86 computer that out of the blue stopped connecting to its network drives. I tried a few things like flushing the dns, re-registering, new IP finally I decided to rejoin it to the domain, big mistake. The computer couldn't contact the domain controller even though all the info was correct. I ended up doing a restore to the week prior updated the NIC drivers and everything seemed to be working.

The following day it happened again I tried the same few fixes and the solution this time was to uninstall all the hidden devices under the network adapter, after a reboot I got into the drives just fine. Now everytime the user shuts his computer down he gets this same problem. My boss ran into the same problem on another machine the other day so Im hesitant to restore, I would prefer a fix in case this shows up again.

The computer can get online and use our email through outlook but network resources are all gone. The machine can also ping all of the servers but wont connect with \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx IP or \\servername\share even with credentials entered.

Ive looked all over with no success.

A:Very strange problem connecting to network drives / network.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

If it's now happening to another computer, I'd unplug the router and switch(es) for 20 to 30 seconds. Also, check on your computer's Security or Firewall programs installed, make sure that they are up to date and not blocking the ports and network resources. You may try disabling the program(s) temporarily for debugging purpose.

An update will be nice.

HI,

I have installed server 2003 on a small network and created a domain that is the same as the public domain name (ie the companies website).

This is now causing a problem because when i type in the public address (for example www.company.com) it is trying to resolve it locally - because the local domain name is also company.com.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get round this problem?

Many thanks in advance

Dave

A:problem with the local network having the same domain name as the public network

add 'local.' to the internal domain or change it altogether.

Your public domain should not have any connection into your private infrastructure,
but you may have references from private->public; not very common.

Hello!
I added a printer to my network (hp c5180) via ethernet cable. But problem accords when I try to map a network location (card reader 5in1 or sth like that, is used to read SD, xD, ms cards used in cameras) from which I d like to copy images, files in explorer without extra software from HP. After I installed drivers for printer, it automatically map a network location but when I try to open it or connect to that location I get an error:

"Access code is invalid"
The network path is "\\192.168.1.9\Memory_card"
I copied this link in to my internet browser (in this case its g Chrome) and I was able to connect to the network location:

Its strange because all of XP based computers can easily connect, problem is only with windows 7 based computers.
Somewhere I found that this could be repaired with changing: (below)

Quote:

1. Open the Administrative Tools in the Control Panel
2. Open the Local Security Policy
3. Select the Security Option under Local Policies
4. Choose Send LM & NTLM responses in Network security: LAN

or in reg:

Quote:
In Windows 7, we can set the following Registry key ?HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Lsa\LMCompatibilityLevel? to ?1?.

But this solutions dont work in my case.

Does somebody know hot to fix this and what is causing it??

I got help to a BSOD problem in the crashes and bugs forum. Impressed with the help i received i was hoping to get help for a network issue ive had for a while.

I am using a cablet connection with my Zyxcel P2602 HWT modem. The modem/router is provided by my internet provider. It also supports a wireless connection.

When i start my computer both the connections is fine. After a while though the cabled connection is said to be unidentified. It works as a local connection, but has no internet access. When i run the diagnoses for the connection it again recognize the network and its working fine for a while until the same happens.

I tried upgrading the driver without luck. The version now says Atheros AR8121/AR88113/AR88114 PCI-E ethernet Controller (NDIS6.20
Driver date: 11.06.2009

If there is information needed ill be happy to provide.

Hello DonkrDjay, welcome to SF!

As a test, can you check what IP number your router gives you (through its DHCP server i hope) when it works well?
Then when it stops working... is it still the same or did you get a totally different IP for your PC?

Second, if posible, could you post snips of your router DHCP settings?

I recently had a computer that crashed and had to be rebuilt. Now that it is back up and running, Im having problems with mapping network drives. Specifically, two maps that were previously working.

If I go to my network places, all of the shares are present from all computers. I can get into all of them, except for two, both on the same computer. (on a windows XP pro) (the rebuild is also windows xp pro)

\\computer1\apps is not accessible. you may not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is Denied.

I checked the folders, both show access to everyone. I can access them from another computer. Simple file sharing is turned off on all computers. I can ping all computers, and vice versa. Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.

any ideas?

let me know if you need more information, I can get whatever is needed.

For 2 years, My XP computer has had no problems picking up 10-20 wireless connections in my neighborhood, some i could connect to,some i could not because they were secured.

i decided to go straight , and purchase DSL.

i bought a new computer(vista) and got a westell 327 DSL modem, which is also a wireless router. The new computer is working fine, i called Verizon to set up the new computer's dsl wireless network, that worked out fine.

My old computer, the one i spoke about opening this thread, that computer immediately picked up the DSL signal from my new computer in the other room.. The signal was excellent and the name of the network WAS ON THE LIST of the dozen other wireless connections i could connect to. Problem is when i went to connect to my own DSL network, i got this error message:

"Limited or no connectivity
You might not be able to access the internet or some network resource. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer."

I typed in the correct password, the little icon in the corner of my computer said both computers were connected, and with an excellent signal strength. Reiterating: i could still connect and go online with the other avaiable networks running the computer, but not my own.

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.
please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

I have an interesting problem that has been driving some pretty smart IT guys nuts. To perform my job I have to access a certain venders web pages that has security set up that I do not know all the details of. Anyway on the company PC using the company image that is a normal XP image and maintained by Comp U Com.

Any time I access this vender's web page it works fine until just after the log in screen. Once I put in my user name and password and click Ok IE just goes blank white and that's it. No error msg no nothing, its not locked up as the frame is still there and the world is turning but nothing else.

This happens on all the company PCs accessing this particular vender's web page as I went and checked. So I wanted to see if it the problem was in the PC or the network. I took the company PC home and was able to successfully log into that vender's web page from my cable modem at that house. Worked fine.

I have already added the vender web pages to the trusted zone and enabled all the active X and everything, deleted the cookies, tried some proxies etc. Every setting that can be done on the PC I have tried.

My question is what is the company network security system blocking that IE needs to work and how to resolve?

Thanks

Are you getting any 'link light' on the card you plug the cable into? Usually a little green light or Amber I think it is on Dell. If you are not I suggest trying a different cable from your modem to your PC.

Also, is your PC directly connected to the modem or into a router?

And when setting your IP address are you going to Start --> Control Panel --> Network Connections?

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum. I am hoping someone maybe able to help me diagnose and fix the problem with this problem. I have a problem with Acer Aspire One Network Adapter. The problem is that the netbook will connect to the internet and will have full bars for internet connectivity. Then a few minutes later it will just disconnect on it's own! I can usually reconnect by going on the Network & Sharing Center, then going into Diagnose problems, then clicking on Network Adapter, then after it resets, it will usually reconnect to the Internet, but lately it won't reconnect! I then have to restart the netbook. The netbook is running Windows 7 Starter, and it has Atheros AR5BXB63 Network Adapter. My friend who is a computer person searched online to confirm if the drivers were up to date, said that was not the problem. I would like any advise anyone can give me to see if this netbook can be fixed before I have to buy another! Please advise?

Hi everyone

I need to see if anyone has a solution to my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and my granddaughter has a Dell Inspiron i15-157B. I added her laptop to our wireless network (Linksys wireless-G broadband router model WRT54GS). Everything works fine as long as she's here in our home, but when she goes home and we try to connect our webcams through Yahoo Messenger, I can see and hear her just fine. She can see me but can't hear me. Why would it work here and not there? I'm wondering if it's something with our home network.

Her laptop at home is connected directly to the internet, but they will be setting up a wireless router also. We both use Vista.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PCs are Win 7 Ultimate, All are joined to the Domain
Domain Controller, DNS, DHCP Server (on same instance) is Server 2012 standard
The network topology is like this: Router as Internet Gateway>Switch>Wired to Server and PC's, SIP phones, and Wireless Access Point all on same subnet. DNS and DHCP have been offloaded to Server Roles and switched off on the router.
All of the PCs have network cards that have joined the domain network at least some of the time since I set them up.
Some of them have always picked up the domain network and continue to this day.
Some of them intermittently pick up the domain network and other times join whatever other unmanaged network is available.
Some of them have stopped picking up the domain network altogether and will, no matter how many times their NICs are restarted, always join a non-domain (unmanaged) network.
When the NICs are not joining the domain, they are unable to ping hostnames of any devices on the network but nslookup of the hostnames usually works. The DC, DNS, DHCP server's IP can be pinged without issue, ipv4 or ipv6.
I am recording DNS Client Errors (ID 1014) on all of the PCs during the intervals when their NICs are identifying which network to join.

-On the PCs that are catching the domain network I am only getting a single error about the root domain, eg the domain is ad.domain.com and I am only getting errors about how the configured DNS servers cannot resolve domain.com (nothing with fully qualified

I have a network of 3 computers at home. The way it is set up is there is a main Origo router, and an Origo wireless hub the connects the the router through Ethernet. There are two laptops the connect wirelessly, and a standard PC that connects by Ethernet to the hub. The all talk to each other over the network and there is no problem there.

The problem is that only one of the laptops (my laptop) is allowed full access to the Internet. Mine loads any web site and any program can connect to the web. On the other two, program's like MSN messenger cant connect, and they cant connect to windows update. Most programmes are fine, but things like guild wars, or MSN don't connect.

I don't know why, I made the network myself, there are no IP address conflicts, and the Internet is fully accessible (shown by my laptop having no problems).

I have made the Internet settings the same on all the PC's (going by my laptop), and it didn't solve it, that is why I think it is the network.

What setting do I need to change on the router to give the other two PC's full web access?

Hi!

I have a Samsung laptop with Win8.1 installed on it. In my dorm and uni, I can connect to the network whether it's wireless or wired, but at home, I can connect, but can only open some pages like Facebook, GMail. When I try to open another page like a search result from google, I got timeout error. Tried Firefox, Chrome, IE. Tried reinstalled drivers, installing Win7 driver, tried using wired connection, nothing. On the other hand, I can play with Battle.Net games, So it's obviously an OS/Driver error. There is another machine connected to the router which has Win8 too, but has no problems. Any idea?

A:Win 8.1 network problem

Many Uni campuses insist on you using a proxy server that is set up by them to access services & websites.
When you are at home, the proxy is still active on the computer but the uni proxy isn't letting you in

The reason Facebook, gmail etc work is that SSL sites ( HTTPS://) don't normally go through the proxy

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.

In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection and uncheck the proxyserver, set it to No Proxy.

when you go back to Uni then reverse the settings

That should clear it for you

Hello,

I am using Wi-Max broadband connection. From some couple of weeks I have faced a network problem that in every time when I start my PC, it is not connected to internet automatically as before it was connected automatically. So when I start my PC two active network Home & Public are showing in Network and Sharing Center. The public network is showing Unidentified. But if I open Network and Sharing Center then > click on local area connection then > properties > then unmark the Network filter driver, the public network goes off automatically & I am connected to the internet. But after that I shut down PC and again restart PC the same problem is occurs that the public network comes automatically with Unidentified Network.

Then I do same process and mark the Network filter driver (N.B. previously I unmarked the network filter driver but this time I mark it) the Unidentified Public network goes off & connected to internet. Every time I start the PC I do the same process. So I request you to give some solution to permanently delete the Unidentified Public network & fix this problem. Thank You.

I have got an anoying problem with my network.
in the bottom in the toolbar there is an exclamtion mark, saying limited or no activity, (this has only come up recently.)
i look in status of the connection and i have noticed that my ip adress begins with 169, i know that this is not good. i have tried renewing the ip address, but no luck it says could not be completed.

i have also tried renewing the ip address in command prompt but comes up with . ' An error occurred while renewing interface Local area connection 3 : unable to contact your dhcp server. request has time out.'

this problem is very anoying as my network has been working well for a while, now all of a sudden this has occured. i now cant share my internet, or files and printer.

this error only shows up on the host computer.

You post does not provide much info as to how you are connected and a couple of details about the hardware you are running, O/S, etc.
Did you run the network wizard on each machine? Remember it will change your Workgroup name back to default.
Have you updated Firewall ?
Have you checked connection settings at each machine ?Did you try the Ping command?

Hello all,
I have a NETGEAR router, and something is starting to annoy me, when I used to download anything off the internet, in my firefox downloads tab, i used to be getting speeds up-to 600kb's but now I'm struggling to get 15kb's. My mum turns the router off on a night, because she knows i'l be playing on it all night :L the only time i can get back to 600kb's is when my service provider network goes down, so the phone lines go off. Then i can only have the download speeds until the router is turned off, then it's gone off again.

Help please?
Thanks in advance. xx

Hi guys

I desperately need to transfer files from one pc on my network to the other pc. And in typical computing fashion the network does not want to work today at all. I have attached a picture of my network map as it makes the problem a bit easier to explain. I need to transfer files from Jamie-PC to Chillout-PC, both on W7, and I have done this hundreds of times before by going to my network clicking Chillout-PC, navigating the folder I want to put my files in and then copying and pasting them in.

However when I tried to this today clicking on Chillout PC in the Network section brings up the following message "Windows cannot access \\CHILLOUT-PC" with the error code 0x80070035. The strange thing is I can connect from Chillout-PC to Jamie-PC as normal. The problem has probably come about since I installed a new copy of Windows 7 on Chillout-PC a couple of weeks ago.

I believe that the problem lies in the network map I attached. Jamie-PC connects directly to my netgear router and this is what Chillout-PC used to do as well but now it connects through a switch and the Network and Sharing center calls the network "Network" not NETGEAR which is what it is called on Jamie-PC. I believe I need to get rid of the switch in my network but have no idea where it came from or how to get rid of it and reconnect Chillout-PC directly to the router.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated as would any methods of transfering 20GB+ of d... Read more

Let's see this for each of the computers.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

In addition, can you ping each way by computer name?

a while ago someone on here had put up a problem they wer having with an online first person shooter, i think it was counter strike source....the problem was that any server under 24 person would work fine, but anything over that would freeze the computer up completely forcing the user to restart the comp, sometimes a sound loop would be heard and sometimes it would just freeze up...

i have just been asked this exact problem by a friend who is having trouble with Team fortress 2 and CS:s...works fine on servers below 24 slots but it freezes on servers with more than 24 slots...

i was wondering if ther was a solution found for it??

A:is this a GPU or network problem??

Probably some sort of driver glitch. Could be either one, but probably the network, as it seems strange that a GPU would crap out at 24 players only. Make sure they get the latest drivers for their network card (it could be the motherboard drivers as well), and maybe try installing another LAN card (they cost about $1 on eBay), to see if that helps.

To see if it's the GPU, have them start their own server, and just add bots to it to see if you can get past the 24 person limit. I don't know what the command is, but I'm pretty sure TF2 can have bots added.

At least I think it's the network.

I am running windows xp professional, ie6 and one other computer networked to it. There is one website on the web that I just cannot access on broadband, it comes up page cannot be displayed. I can get there if I go on dial up and for a little while when I disabled the networking I could access the site on broadband but now even that doesn't work.

I have asked the site admin and they have no idea and my ip isn't blocked or anything. I have also tried using firefox browser all to no success.

Any ideas on why a site would work only on dial up?
Thanks'

A:Network problem??

Well, I've had this problem a couple of times, and it ended up being a routing issue in Comcast's local network.

How about doing this:

Start, Run, CMD

In the command prompt, type the following command and paste the output here.

TRACERT <url>

Where <url> is the URL of the web site in question.

Usually just resetting your router will fix that sort of problem. Look for a reset button on the router, or you can try resetting from the routers page or you can try unplugging the router for ten minute then reconnect.

I have a WRT54G router wired to my desktop PC (cable --> modem --> Router --> PC). I also have a laptop that used to connect wireless to the router. I just had to do a complete system recovery of the laptop back to its 'out-of-box' condition. The laptop now sees my network, but wants a network key entered before it will connect to the network. Unfortunately I don't remember it. From my desktop computer (which is not the original desktop PC that I had when first installing the router), I tried getting to the router access point with 198.162.1.1, but that again asked me for a user name and password. Tried 'blank' and 'admin', but that didn't work.

So, I guess that I will need to do a physical reset of the router settings via the button at the back of the router. I have 2 questions re this. First, will resetting the router have any negative effect on my wired desktop PC broadband connection, and second, will I need to do anything with the laptop once the router has been reset.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Network Key Problem

The only reason your desktop would have a problem is if you have DSL and you setup your modem in bridged mode, you would have to reconfigure PPP. Your laptop should start connecting to the network linksys as that is the default name. You should configure security on the wireless again though to keep out unwanted guest.

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 v 4.3 wired router connecting two computers, both running XP. Both computers can share files and the "local" computer can use the printer attached to the "remote" computer. The local computer has internet access, but the remote computer says it has "little or no connectivity" and when I attempt to repair all I get is

"Repair Local Area Connection

Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the
following action cannot be completed:
Renewing your IP address

For assistance, contact the person who manages your network."

Unfortunately I am the person who "manages" this network so the recommendation was not very helpful.

Each computer can ping the other and the router but the remote computer cannot reach anything on the internet. I spent over an hour with one of the Linksys phone help folks, but he could not resolve the problem. I must say that I am at a loss as to why I cannot connect with the internet via the router when I have no problem filesharing.

A:Network problem help

Have you checked for a firmware update for the router in question? It sure does sound like a router problem. However, it is also possible that you have a firewall or antivirus problem on the remote computer that is blocking the connection. Have you tried turning all of those applications off (after you have checked, of course, to ensure that the machine is no infected, which might also be the problem?)

In our office system there seems to be a problem. My system has some shared folders. I have IPMsg software for use within the company. At times what happens is IPMsg is not showing anyone in the list. Secondly, no one was able to access my shared folders. But my internet is working pretty well. If internet is not working then I might be sure that has something to do with the network settings, etc.

Also in others system when this happens, they could not access internet but use IPMsg.

So can anyone help. me out.

Details:

All the machines are running Win XP SP2.
IPMsg v 2.06 (Doesnt matter Coz shared folders are not working as well).

ok, simple questions first:

all on the same LAN?

domain or workgroup?

if workgroup, are all computers members of the same workgroup?

software firewall, do you have one? if you do, what is it? if you don't, is windows firewall on?

let's start there.

A Router, but you would have to find one that accepts USB from the modem. The modem connects to router, then the router to your computers using RJ45. Or check out the one at the link.http://www.netgear.com/products/details/DG834.php
