Unplugging the fan on a GeForce FX 5200

Q: Unplugging the fan on a GeForce FX 5200

Is this a good idea? My fan is making all kinds of noise, I have already bought a replacement card from newegg.com, so the issue is only valid for a few days.

If I unplug the fan, will my card/system be ok?

Preferred Solution: Unplugging the fan on a GeForce FX 5200

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Unplugging the fan on a GeForce FX 5200

Not a good idea.

If it has a fan it probably means it produces a lot of heat. The heatsink alone might be okay if you don't do anything GPU intensive, but you'll probably encounter overheating problems during gaming.

Which of those two card's would be better for very light gaming (Some 04 and 05 Sports Games) and other than that just regular XP use? My old FX 5200 was a 128mb card with a 200mhz clock speed and the new 6100 has 425mhz clock speed. Any Help?

A:Integrated Geforce 6100 or old Geforce FX 5200

If you have lots of system RAM, then the 6100 is probably the best choice. You'd probably need at least a gig of RAM though.

If you only have 256, or 512, the 5200 might be the better choice. Best idea is to test your games with both setups, and see which plays better.

Hey guys, how accurate is this:

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=438&card2=439

They rate the 5200 card higher , then the 5500 card. Now obvious in terms of memory, the geforce 5500 wins, 256MB. But i was just curious on what you guys thought.

A:help wit e-geForce FX 5200

Why on earth would use a driver from DriverGuide for an Nvidia card?!?! Only use DriverGuide for obsolete or no longer supported hardware. Half the stuff on DriverGuide is useless garbage that aren't even drivers.

Go to Nvidia's website and use the correct and proper driver. Here's the link: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

You must make sure the card is installed already as a Geforce card or with the Standard VGA driver. If you cancelled the pop-up that came up when Windows detects the card the driver will not install.

Hi, I have been getting an old PC up and running its using XP.

The problem is when I connect it to my sons Samsung 19" TV/Monitor it doesn't work.

(Works fine with this 22" novatech monitor but this is for my main PC )

It worked to start with but the font was to big something weird like 696 X 496 and in the display settings I couldn't amend this.

I tried installing a new driver. Now that is installed it won't show anything but a message saying "Mode not supported" and help on where I should go from here. ( just for info it does work if I connect my novatech monitor )

Many Thanks

A:Geforce FX 5200

Check the user manual for supported resolutions.

TV/monitors are often limited to standard TV resolutions (ie: 480/720/1080 @ 60hz). Monitors with built-in TV tuners are different, and often function the same as a standard monitor. In any case, check the user manual for specifics.

heres my issue.

I installed the AGP x 8 Graphics card with the drivers and restarted the PC. After that the display comes on but everything is slow (window dragging and stuff, choppy graphics) I looked at the properties of the Geforce FX 5200 and found that it had a code 10 error which sayts the device could not start. I iunstalled the drivers from the NVIDIA website asnd still the same error.

A:GeForce FX 5200 help

First look in the BIOS and see what the AGP transfer rate is set at. If it's AUTO make it 8X.
2. I assume that you already installed the chipset drivers ( as in newest ones , not the one that came with the motherboard)
3. I assume that you don't have any other video device inside ( as in a secondary video card, or onboard video ). If you do , take it out , or disabled it.

what could be the problem? thanks in advance.

A:nvidia geforce fx 5200

The problem is that there's no nVidia Windows 7 driver for the 5200; support ends with Vista. I'm not sure why you're getting it through Windows Update?

However, all is not lost. Go to the folder where you downloaded the driver and right click on it. Select properties, then select the compatibility tab. Place a check mark in the box entitled, "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", and then make sure XP service pack 3 is listed in the box below.

Without knowing which version you're running, this is the closest I can get you: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Hello friends,
I need some advice regarding which video card to buy. I ordered this FX5200 with 128 mb DDR ram, and the vendor shipped Ti4200 with 128 ram. The system seems to be running almost at the same speed, but there is little bit of difference. I just need some more views to decide about returning the ti4200 or just keeping it.
By the way this board rocks, they saved my life, the MSBlaster got into my system, and I could get rid of it because of the advice I got on this forum.

A:Geforce Ti 4200 Vs FX 5200

Keep the 4200 as its a better card than the 5200. Don't worry about DX9 support as the 5200 isn't fast enough for it anyway, and neither card is fast enough for the latest/upcoming games, but ample for many older games with all features turned on. You're one lucky guy.

Yesterday I installed a Geforce 5200 on my computer. After properly installing drivers and reseting, it worked well for 5 minutes or less, but then something went wrong and the screen started flickering, (an obvious signal of wrong graphic card behavior) the CPU stopped working so I had to restart. The next time I turned on the computer I opened Asus Probe (system monitoring utility) and it said that the 3.3 voltage was running at 2.6~2.78 (i opened asus probe before installing the geforce and every value was OK). I tried with other monitoring software and I got the same results, even within the BIOS.
After that, the computer kept working with the same errors until I removed the card and used the onboard video, after doing so it started working normally as always.
It most sounds like a PSU problem, but it's pretty weird because i'm using a 400W power supply with no PCI or AGP devices installed, just 2 CD/DVDRW drives, 1 floppy drive, 1 HDD and nothing else.
So the problem is obviously when I plug the card. BTW, the card worked fine on other P4 computer. I don't really know what to do. Should I buy a new more powerful PSU?

System Specs: Mobo: Asus A7S8X-MX // CPU: AMD Sempron 2400+ (1.67 Ghz) // 256 MB RAM DDR // AGP 8X (ony for 1.5v cards)

the installation of Win7 itself runs fine without any problems. However, when I updated my drivers, including the VGA driver so I can run the Aero, Windows 7 won't start at all and generates a blue screen error.
The only resolution so I can run it is to revert back before I installed the VGA driver

Howdy!
Trying to get this GeForce 5200 video card to work in XP (I tried in Ubuntu but am too much of a newbie to figure it out). My XP machine already has an NVidia Vanta card in it (but it doesn't have S-Video Out, which is what I need this new card for). First time I plugged it in the card was recognized... and was able to install the drivers for it, rebooted and XP wouldn't load unless I did Last Known Good. After that XP wouldn't even DETECT that I have the card in there.
Tried booting up with only GeForce and not the Vanta card but got 3 beeps and couldn't even POST. Any ideas? I have 7 machines to play with, one with XP, one with 2000, and 5 with Ubuntu... most have onboard video and only the one with XP doesn't have onboard video.

Any normal windows application is fine, but 3D nope. It displays the worngs colors, like purples instead or reds, or runs at 2 frames a second, with the polygons and textures in the wrong places, and once again the colors all worng. I have tried all the latest videocard drivers, Motherboard Drivers, Direct X 9.0, 8.1, Windows updates (I have Windows XP Home with Service Pack 1). No luck, no matter what, it acts the same, Even when I reinstall Window sagain and again. Also, I tried the videocard in another computer, and it worked flawlessly, so is it the motherboard, or a configuration problem? Am I missing something in the Bios? Or is it a compatibility issue? Or could the Motherboard be faulty?

I went to the trouble shoot tab and enabled my connected tv is not being detected and it force the Nview tab to be there but theres still no conection being made to my tv.

*** ugh im so stupid i got it fixed so don't bother reading the instructions it told me to directly connect it to my graphics card but i had another video slot in the front and another secretly hidden behind all these tangled cables at the back of my computer and that on worked. Ill try to be a bit more patience with myself before desperatly seeking attention, i mean help

***AH HAH! i new it was to simple i spoke to soon! Video works great but to put my life threw more misery the audio isn't working in any of the slots... someone shoot me now or strangle me with composite, svideo or component video cables your choice...........

Hey all,

I bought a new Dell computer nearly a year and a half ago. It's quite the machine: 3.02GHZ, 1GB Ram, 80 GB HD, WinXP, lots of software doodads, etc. It also came with a GeForce 5200 FX graphics card. Now after a year and a half, naturaly i hace come accross many viruses on this computer, and being as lazy as i am, i frequently refresh the computer.... The computer came with installation disks that made everything really easy, so it wasn't a problem... Then it got interesting...

One day i was sittin arround playing Lineage 2 when all of a sudden the game froze... so i Ctrl+Alt+Del ed out of it and kept trying to play it again, but it kept freezing... so did Dawn of War... so did Diablo 2... so did WoW... so i figured something must be seriously wrong with my comp, so of course, i refreshed it... then it got crappy...

I refreshed the computer like i had done over and over and over, everything looked great, got the operating system up and running, got the networking stuff together, but something wasn't right. There was an odd graphical twitch in the monitor. Figuring it was simply because of the new drivers, i restarted the computer (which i was suppose to do anyway). When the computer booted up, the monitor leaped into all sorts of fancy colors, clicked off and on, and went... well... i thought it was gunna explode, how bout that...

Now every time i start the computer, it struggles snd struggles just to get passed the profile loading screen o... Read more

If you happened to have installed the 77.72 graphics driver, uninstall it and try an older one such as the 71.89 or older.

A:Problems with GeForce FX 5200

hey man i own the same card and seemed to be runnign into some problems my self for the second time. For ur problem try updating ur driver for video card. u can find it in nvidia site. i just downloaded mine and hasnt hlped me very much. also run dxdiag and test ur direct3d directdraw and agp acceleration. u might find the problem there. make sure they r all enabled too. if u cant enable them, means u might be missing some of its very important dll files. use the following program to scan to c what u might be missing after the troubleshooting.

I only have a PCI interface so before you bash it, understand what my options are

Good choice, I had this card and the radion 9200 ,when I had my compaq 7585. I did prefer the 9200 but there was little difference between the two. The 9200 did do a little better on the benchmarks as well.

Ok guys, the problem is thus...
Ive been using the Geforce FX 5200 for about 2 years or so with no problems untill recently.
When playing any recentish game it will play for any length of time then all of a sudden I'll just get a black screen.. no pictures, no sound, nothing!
It has got more annoying today whilst trying to play THE MOVIES and kept happening after about 5mins each time, and considering I couldnt even get back to Windows required turning the PC off.
Now reading through the forums I think the problem may have something to do with DirectX 9.0c which was newly installed along with The Movies..
Any help would be nice

OS - Windows XP w ServicePack 1
Ram - 250mb DDR
Graphics - Geforce FX 5200 128mb - Latest drivers (78.01)
DirectX 9.0c

Quick update, reformatted the hard drives and still having the same problem with playing The Movies.
Plays older games such as Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights with no problems at all..
Another thing I have noticed is that alot of the times when it goes to the black screen the monitor powers down or all the lights at the front flash as if its been disconnected from the graphics card...

Hello,
I have installed Vista Ultimate On one of mine computers without service pack 1
When i Install nvidia drivers 96,85 ver Or older After I Get a Blue Screen But I Cant see What It Saying there It closes quickly and Reboots ... After that i Login in Vista But after Some 1 minute aproximatelly it reboots again showing that BlueScreen And i Think It says Somthing about "0x00000001" error But I am Not SURE!!!
So Is there A solution like Installing Service Pack 1 Might solve that ?
:S

A:GeForce 5200 Problem

I think others will suggest to install SP1 first as Vista was a little on the iffy side w/o it. My x64 Premium came already with SP1 included this is why I was willing to install it.

I know there is a way for you to disable auto-restart but I am not sure how to do that in Vista so I'll let the gurus chime in on this one since, w/o the error code, they won't be able to help much.

Also, make sure you are using the "Run as Administrator" when installing the new drivers and also make sure you have uninstalled whatever drivers you have now.

I currently have a Geforce 2 MX/MX 400 card. A friend has a Geforce FX 5200 that he will give me if it will work on my pc.

My motherboard is a ASUS K7V that uses PC133 SDRAM. Will the FX 5200 work on my pc?

I'm thinking it should work and give me a little better graphics than what I currently have.
