Q: Security (kensington) slot for THINKPAD X1 CARBON (5TH GEN) or THINKPAD X1 YOGA (2ND GEN)?

Hello, I am looking for a laptop which can be securely attached/locked (so that I can let it during the night in the office). Could you please tell me if the following laptops have a security slot (Kensington or similar) to attach it somewhere?THINKPAD X1 CARBON (5TH GEN)THINKPAD X1 YOGA (2ND GEN) I do not find it described in the specifications, but from the available pictures, it seems that they have some kind of security slot. Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14 with a EM7455 WWAN broadband card in the M.2 slot.  I can not for sure locate the SIM card slot so I can put in broadband provider sim (like one from T-Mobile or AT&T).  Documentation shows it on the back opposite the fans with a pin hole to pop out a SIM tray.  There is no slot on back of the case. I took the cover off the botton of the Yoga 14, which is where the M.2 slot is located.  At the back about where there should be a SIM card tray, there is a 8 contact SIM socket labeled SIM1 on the motherboard.  I am assuming this the cellular SIM card socket, but it will not take a micro-sim card.  It is to loose to hold it.  It looks like it needs a sim tray.Anyone have any experience with a ThinkPad Yoga 14 sim card or have a suggestion?  Photos of motherboard and sim slot below.    Thank you, Gerry          ??                                                                                          &... Hi all, I've just taken ownership of the ThinkPad Yoga 370 and suspect that the Micro SD slot is faulty.  Basically, the card gets sticker into the slot once pushed in and it'll take a long time to slowly pull out the card from the slot. Also, the notebook doesn't detect the card when it's in.  Im pretty sure I got the right side of the card into the slot.  Can anyone confirm if the slot is suppose to eject the card with a "spring" motion? Cause I don't have that, that's why it's sticker.

Hi, I purchased the X1 Carbon Yoga approximately 6 months ago and i must say I'm highly disappointed. For a flagship laptop the battery life is appalling, with my device struggling to get 4 hours with a moderate load of browsing and office productivity and at 60% brightness well shy of the 10+ hours promised and well under any reasonable measure for an ultrabook. Ive once had the battery replaced as the device originally struggled to even give me 2 hours under battery and when i apply a light pressure to the keyboard "rest" it makes a lovely grinding noise.. On paper this is a fantatsic device OLED monitor, 360 degree screen but living with it is terrible. The fingerprint scanner often doesnt pick up my finger and requires some time to figure it out and the carbon fibre gets so DIRTY. Its near impossible to keep it clean without the oils from your fingers staining it.  I'm at a loss what to do as i believe this device just cant be improved or fixed. It's just terrible at a price point of over $3,000. akooch

There are reports of extreme throttling on X1 Carbon Gen6 (reviews on Lenovo reviews US page, or reddit). It seems X1C6 is limited to 23W/29W TDP, while X1 Yoga Gen 3 is limited to 44W TDP for short and long term bursts.  It makes little sense as physically X1C6 cooler looks bigger thus thould be able to handle longer/harder loads. Can we hope that it will be fixed in the nearest future? Or is there an actual reason for lowering X1C6 TDP, so people who expect 8650U to run at 44W should just look into buying X1Y3?

Over the past several years there are many posts of users experiencing variations on this problem with X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga of various generations, including the latest ones (I provide a list below). That is, the systems often cannot come out of sleep mode in some way, shape, or form. I had this problem on my own brand-new X1 Carbon 5th Generation, right out of the box. In my instance, I noticed this issue in the following two scenarios: -After having gone in to sleep mode, once I opened the lid, or press power button once:power light goes from blinking to solid onscreen stays blank/blackseems that if the machine is going to be in the frozen state, keyboard presses do not "unsleep" it (which they normally would). Closing the lid causes the power light to go to solid on, but then opening it again does nothing.in a couple of rarer instances, the machine actually did come out of sleep but then instantly the screen froze (but this was quite uncommon, mostly it just wouldn't come out of sleep at all)-After passing the initial boot screen of Lenovo, the next part shows the Lenovo logo but without the swirling dots and is frozen (the power light would show on)Under both conditions: The power light is solid onThe keyboard lights functionality works: backlighting, FnLock light, mute lightSometimes you can hear the fan workingPlugging in to external display does not display anything on itThe only way to rectify is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power key With... Looks easy to install; and break off as well. All one needs are steel cutters, or even a garden sheer. But ifcourse
students wouldnt cut the cord in a college library; nor would they raise a desk to swipe the laptop and run off with cables attached.

I was hoping for a way to lock the laptop, but I guess a metal safe is the best option.

But it runs out of charge very soon. It shows me the low battery level indicator as soon as I use it on the screen. First day of usage (appox 4 days ago) it gave me about 30 - 45 minutes of continuous. But after that not more than 5 minutes. Please let me know if this is an issue with the Pen or Laptop charging port. Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I do not have that kind of pen, but I think is the one that has some "bronce contacts" at the top of the pen. I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

I am hhaving difficulty finding an acceptable scaling mix between resolution, system scaling, and edge scaling. At 1080p, 125%, 125%, os navigation is mostly fine, but edge text is way too large. At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.

I just bought a Thinkpad Yoga from Best Buy and upon opening, found that the pen pro included does not work. I'm on the most updated version of all the drivers, and the touch screen and multitouch with my hands still work. After taking an multimeter to measure the voltage of the pen, I found that the pen just wasn't charging. I'm a bit hesitant to check the voltage of the charging silo itself but my suspicion is that the pen is dead. Could this be a software problem? Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Should I return to pen and the laptop to bestbuy or just the pen? Or should this issue be brought to Lenovo instead?

A:Thinkpad Yoga 460 (Best Buy) - Thinkpad Pro Pen do...

I don't have a 460, but I do have a 260, which is a smaller, but VERY similar machine.  I had the same problem and I believe it is not the pen.  Before you do anything, you need to unplug the machine and disable the internal battery.  You do that by going into the BIOS and under the config tab, look under power.  There will be an option to disable the battery.  When this is selected, the machine will turn off.  The battery is re-enabled the next time you plug it in.  IF THE BATTERY IS NOT DISCONNECTED, YOU WILL CREATE A SHORT AND BLOW A IRREPLACEABLE FUSE ON THE MOTHERBOARD.  Remove the pen and look inside, where you will see 2 contacts.  My guess is that one or both got pushed back into the housing during manufacturing process.  You can take something fine and sharp like a needle and gently free them so they will pop back out.  Once I popped mine out, the pen charged very quickly and I never had another problem with it.

If it does, how can I make it functional. If it doesn`t what do I need to do/buy to make it functional.  Thanks,Kushtrim

Hi and welcome, kushtrimYour laptop is "WWAN ready" only, i.e.has the SIM card holder, the SIM card reader and WWAN antennas installed. WWAN modem wasn't factory preinstalled, that's a cause you don't see anything once SIM card is installed. So, to use laptop WWAN capabilities, purchase and install WWAN modem - 3G or 3g/LTE.

I received my Thinkpad X1 Carbon a week ago and it's been working fine both on battery power and on the AC adapter the entire time. This morning, I closed my laptop like usual (so it goes to sleep but doesn't shut down) and brought it to class with me. When I tried to wake it up though, nothing would work. It won't boot with the AC plugged in either. I'm pretty sure the battery is an integrated battery and I don't want to void my warranty by fiddling with it. Does anyone know what I can do about this problem? It's the only computer I have in college and I'm taking some computer science courses so my problem is pretty urgent. I also can't feasibly bring it to somewhere to repair since I'm in a pretty isolated town and I don't own a car. Also by reading the forums here, I'm under the impression that the Lenovo customer support line is simply terrible. Is that true? Once again, thanks for any possible insight!

Sorry you're having issues.
Have you tried the "reset" hole on the bottom of the laptop? I believe that it's unmarked, but you'd use a paper clip to trip the switch. I don't have an X1C, personally, so I can't describe it further. I'm mobile at the moment, so have limited search capability, but if you search the forum for a post by Mark_Lenovo, I believe there's a picture of it.

Regarding contacting Service, I've personally never had anything but good experiences. Please keep in mind that on open forums like these, the good reports seldom get posted.

My phone connects and my Kindle connects. Everything connects except the Thinkpad. At this moment, the X1 Carbon Thinkpad is connected, and I am typing on it in this forum. But, in an hour, I could pick it up, and it will not be connected. The "Windows Network Diagnostics" will tell me "Problem found." The explanation will be "Problem with wireless adapter or access point."  Then it will explain: "Not fixed."   Any suggestions?   Best regards,Bill Phillips, Durham, North Carolina

Right now I'm using a 32GB Sandisk USB dongle, which works perfectly for me, but there is this unused SD slot.Of course I read some topics throughout the internet and this forum, saying it wasn't possible (4-6 years ago) due to the SD card being connected to PCI-E bus so BIOS/UEFI can't access it. My UEFI-Version is 2.12 R07ET72W (2016-10-28).Notebook-Model is 20FW003MGE.On the SSD I'm using Win7 64 Pro. Is there a way now to boot from the SD card without an external card reader, or do I have to buy an aditional M2.2242 SSD, leaving the SD slot waiting for memory extension issues? Is there a list with supported M.2 SSDs? PS: Grub command ls doesn't recognize the SD card either.

After all problems, imperfections, bugs at "top level" TP X1 C/Y - here is a one more...microSD card slot at back side of notebook is connected to highest speed PCIe card reader controller Realtek RTS5208 that possible can rise top speeds of newest microSDXC up to 200mb/s.But... because it's not USB-controller... IT DOES NOT EXIST AT BIOS BOOT OPTIONS!!!So with this super fast controller users have lost possibility to boot from SD-cards...Fkng stupid lenovo!
