Hp Envy failing to boot with caps lock blink code

Q: Hp Envy failing to boot with caps lock blink code

My computer fails to boot and gives me a caps lock code. The LED blinks twice. I have tried hard resetting and reseating the memory, but nothing worked. I have had this problem for a fairly long time, however in past the computer would eventually boot up after I forced turned it off and on a number of times. I am at the point now where over the past few days I have been trying this and it so far has still failed to boot up. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to fix this!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Purchased notebook 11/16. Within the first week, the keyboard stopped working and the caps lock key emitted a blink code of 5 long blinks followed by 3 short blinks. I uninstalled the keyboard driver and allowed the system to re-install it.  That appeared to fix it--for a while. The next time that happened, I went through the Device Manager, a line at a time, checking for updated drivers. Almost a dozen devices were updated. That solved the problem--for a while. The notebook is about 6 months old now. I have been using it extensively, mostly video editing.  Two days ago, the problem arose again.  I have observed that I can be in the middle of using the notebook and the keyboard will suddenly shut down and the caps lock key will emit the blink code(s). The blink codes never appear on boot-up. I have run the extensive diagnostics and no problem was found.  This is the main reason that I need the definition of the blink code(s). Thank you. wise_old_owl

Thanks, Huffer, for your answer. That should have been obvious, but I just assumed that by now, the software was at a point where, if something went wrong in the middle of machine operation, the operating system, or the BIOS, would shut down the keyboard and display the blink code.

My daughter's laptop has died.  When you push the power button the power light on the side comes on and stays on and the hard drive light blinks momentarily then not at all.  There is a blink code on the Caps Lock key that appears to blink twice - one blink followed by a second about 1 to 2 seconds later, then a longer wait and the code repeats.  There is no LED on any other key.  I've tried the hard reset by pulling the battery and pushing the power key for a long time.  No change. I've looked up the blink code which says it's a corrupted BIOS and used the Windows key/B key combination before pushing the power button and nothing happens except the blink code continues. This is all that I can find to try with this laptop and the daughter needs it for her online college courses.  She bought it from Amazon and it is a refurbished unit.  Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm not sure whether the blink code is a single blink repeating 3 times or 3 blinks. This is exactly what I see and hear after pressing the power on button: The F12 blinks , the fan runs and the CAPS LOCK BLINKS, the F12 blinks , the fan runs and the CAPS LOCK BLINKS, the F12 blinks , the fan runs and the CAPS LOCK BLINKS. Then everything shutsdown. This pertains to an 'HP15 touchscreen' w/ win 10 64bit.

Hello, Any certain meaning for LED caps-lock blinking (white) one-two,  one-two?No change in frequency,  no beeps. I found a page about the Caps-lock LED blinking sequences.*This one is blinking in two-times sequences.    But on the HP "legend" to interpret the blinkingI did not see a matching interpretation for that one-two,  one-two,  sequence.[The closest ones were 4.2  and 4.3 but I have "no beeps" and these are only two blinks (not followed by a slower nor faster blinks).] This is for an HP split x2  tablet/notebook.  *http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Split-13-g100-x2-PC/5405588/model/5447133/document/c01732674

After normal use and simply closing my laptop, it will not reboot.  I have had this happen before and was able to reboot by restarting. Following various forum instructions, I've removed the battery and attempted recovery from discs several times.  I've connected the unit to my smart tv, but cannot see my computer screen on the tv monitor.   What's happening now: When I turn on the laptop, the caps/num lock LEDs blink once.  There's power, but the fan seems quieter than usual.  It has been a little loud and running a little warmer recently.  The light at the power cord is white, and the light on the touch pad is on/white.  The wifi light and sound light are both red. Any advice?

Sorry to hear that. Please refer to the Blank Screen LED Error Codes document from HP Support. It sounds like a "General system board failure." The explanation says to contact HP for assistance. The motherboard might need to be replaced, and you will probably require the assistance of a technician to fix the problem.

two blinks is corrupt BIOS. Connect the power adapter to the notebook and the hold down the Windows key and the B key at the same time. It may take a full minute or so of holding down the two keys, but you should  see an onscreen message responce that says that it is recovering the BIOS.

Hello. I am trying to fix an HP G62-367DX Notebook PC.
Operating sys: Win 7, 64bit, AMD Turion(tm) 530II Dual-Core Processor, 4GB, 2.50GHz. I had this laptop since December of 2010 and on June of 2013 is when I used my notebook PC and was initially of no use. I have been working on my laptop on and off since. I am not afraid to open the sucker up and get this thing up and running.

The problem started out with what most ppl call it, the "blue screen of death". Like most ppl, I did ignore the blue screen and did a restart which brought me to the normal Windows screen and then it would start back up just fine. I found this in Device Manager's (Hidden Files):
Non-Plug and Play Drivers

-! epfwwfp
-! Security Processor Loader Driver
I am not sure if it has anything to do with what it was the blue screen situation, but I tried searching on the net on what it all meant and to see if I was able to fix it, but before I was able to do something about it, the blue screen kept popping up and it was getting worse.

The problem progressed to where on Windows startup it would just stop there, blue screen would pop up and of course I had to restart it and do an F8 key press for Safe Mode. I had to work on Safe Mode for a good couple of weeks before I can figure out the problem/s. I believe I had went into the system and found out it had something to do with some kind of error... *sigh* I did write it down, but that was like a month ago and I am unable to locate my ... Hello, I bought my pavilion 15 around 1 and a half years back. Yesterday, when I tried to turn on my laptop, the led in the caps lock button flashed 3 times along with a brief delay and then another 3 times. I researched into the problem and I found out the problem was with my RAM. The solution given by HP was to reseat the RAM, which I tried but didn't work. I tried other methods given by users and still to no avail. I finally got myself to save up and buy myself a new 8gb ram which was compatible with my PC. It was very frustrating to see even with the new ram the same problem showed up. I exhausted all the solutions given by other users so I decided to ask myself. Thank you.

I'm also seeing this issue . HP Pavilion g6-b50us, 4GB RAM, Windows 7.  On boot, I get a blank screen, amber F12, Caps Lock blinks every 5 seconds. Here are the steps I've tried so far:

Hard Reset: I've removed the battery, pressed the power button for 10, 30, 60 seconds, re-inserted the battery and rebooted. Fail, no change : blank screen, amber F12, Caps Lock blinks every 5 seconds.
I've removed the battery *and* the CMOS battery, pressed the power button for 10, 30, 60 seconds, reinstalled the batteries, and rebooted. Fail, no change.
I've swapped out known good RAM for the existing RAM, and have also rebooted with no RAM. Fail, no change.
I've swapped out RAM and tried all the above reset procedures. Fail, no change.
I've connected to an external VGA monitor in all the above scenarios. Fail, no change. VGA monitor appears to never be detected during boot attempts under Auto-detect or Analog connection.

The hard drive sat in a rubberized caddy, which appeared to be heat-fused in its location and was difficult to extract. The hard drive is readable, but does not appear to have suffered any thermal damage.

Is there any way to interrogate the BIOS, chipset, video, or components to determine a root cause and whether it's fixable or not?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Hi,

I recently upgraded the ram in my Vostro 1500 from 2 512MB sticks to 2 1GB sticks. The installation was fine and my computer ran much faster for the next two days. However, now the computer refuses to boot. I press power, the caps lock key will flash for about 30 seconds and then power off. Nothing else turns on, there's no error message or anything. I assume this is some problem with the RAM but I have tried resetting it and switching it around but to no avail. I'm away from home at the moment so I can't put the old sticks back in to see if that will fix it. Is there anything else I can try to fix this? Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

A:Dell Vostro 1500 Flashing Caps Lock, no boot-up

Hello there.

The first thing you would need to do is swap the new sticks with the old sticks to see if the computer boots up. If it does, then your RAM is either faulty, some settings need to be tweaked or there could possibly be incompatibilities. Post back when you get the chance to test the old memory.

Yesterday the laptop wouldn't start. Starts to power on, caps lock LED blinks repeatedly, then shuts off. I have no doubt this is a POST code, but I can't find any info from dell to determine it's meaning.

After pulling power, battery, etc. and waiting a while, we got it to boot to windows, then got a BSOD with an error message and had to turn it off. Back to the post code.

I connected the drive to my desktop and backed up all the data. Then I stripped the laptop down the system board (no obvious hardware problems detected), then tried to power up with memory and CPU only. Seems to work, tells me no HD found (as expected). I added the HD, and made it to windows startup screen, saw the desktop, then it hit a BSOD.

I tried another reboot, and went into the bios, turned on "thorough POST". On the next power cycle, no POST errors, but I hit F12 to go to Diagnostics. First time through, it hung in a memory test. Not sure that's the culprit, I rebooted and did it again. Made it through the memory test no problem, next step it loads a diagnostics GUI. Started running system board tests through the GUI, and it locked up again.

Next reboot and I'm staring at the blinking caps lock LED again, and can't get it to boot. This is with AC power, and only the keybaord, CPU, HD, and memory installed. Since then, I haven't been able to get it to boot successfully.

As stated above, I have a Dell Inspiron 1501, I tried to power up last night, and it froze that the BIOS loading screen. I left it alone to see if anything would happen, 15 minutes later i held down the power button, and it didn't shut down like it's supposed to, i held it down for more than 10-13 seconds. I tried to start it up, I heard the fan start up as it usually does, but nothing comes up on the Display and the Caps Lock LED flashes continuously. I began searching online for possible problems, did some troubleshooting because i refuse to call Dell(Always get problems), and came up with it being a possible RAM problem. I unscrewed the back, and removed both sticks, and tried starting up with each stick in a different slot, then with just one stick on each slot. no luck. Then i tried to see if i could get the two LEDs to show up for the POST, by removing both sticks, and now the caps lock doesnt even flash, nor does anything come up on the screen.
Please Help.

If it doesn't beep while having no memory then it is likely that your motherboard needs to be replaced.

Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Here's the weird part.. when I press Num Lock ( function key + scroll lock ) the LED turns on! I already tried a system recovery, it didn't solve the issue. Is there something wrong with my BIOS? Any help from you guys will be highly appreciated.. thanks!

Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then try updating your BIOS.  If neither works...It's pretty much dead and not worth fixing.  To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

I'm a sloppy typist. I don't know if I hit some key combo or what but I was typing a letter in word pad and suddenly my typing is in all caps. I have used a reg file to disable my caps lock key on this laptop because it gets in my way - a long time ago. I know it cannot be the caps lock key. I do not have a shift key sticking.

I saved the letter, then copied it to Polyedit another word processor, and it still types in all caps. Firefox does not seem to be effected. I even tried rebooting and nothing helped.

Clues?

Hi All, Purchased this laptop for my daughter for Christmas new from ebuyer. She went to use it yesterday and it wont boot. With the power plugged in the orange power light flashes say every 1 second. The caps lock flashes about every 5 seconds. The screen flashes very very quicky/briefly as though it wants to boot at a similar time to the caps flashing. With the power cabel out it does the same but the orange power light flashes slower say every 5 seconds. Im very confident in taking it apart if needs be to reset anything etc as long as this doesnt void the warranty which i still have but would like to get it fixed sooner rather than later. Any suggestions? Thanking you in advance. David

Hi Guys. I'm new to this so, sorry if i post it wrong?

Well, Last night, my laptop totally froze. No mouse movement. Screen froze. Everything. The only way to get round this was to disconnect any power to the laptop and remove the battery. That solved my 1st Problem. However, once i tried to reboot the system, All i got was a black screen with flashing Caps lock light OR in some cases it begins to start up however, at the ''Starting Windows screen'' It goes black and stays black.

Erm, i really love my laptop so if anyone has any suggestions to fix this.. or if i've posted it in the wrong section i apologize i just need a fix :(

I was performing updates on the computer when the battery power died and when provided the power cord I had a black screen and the caps and number button appears to blink once at the same time. I upgraded the operating system about 1 month ago to Windows 7 and it has been working fine until the updates began to update.
