"No Signal" or Signal too weak- PC to TV HDMI cable

Q: "No Signal" or Signal too weak- PC to TV HDMI cable

I have an HP Desktop Envy All in One. I used an HDMI cable to connect my PC and my Samsung UHD TV so I could use my TV as a 2nd Monitor. I have verified the cable is fine along with the HDMI ports on the TV. When I use the "Source" button on the remote and select HDMI port 2, it tells me there is NO signal or it's not strong enough. When I try to adjust the "Display Settings "on my computer, it appears my PC won't even detect the TV. So, whatever the issue it, it's my computer that is the problem and I am sure it's a simple setting. I am lost and very, very frustrated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys,

For the past few years I have been running a HDMI cable to my TV. I also have a DVI going to a monitor. I have it so when the HDMI is in, the screen is automatically on TV, if HDMI is out, it will go to monitor - ease of use when watching films on larger screen. Zero issues up until now.

Now though, the HDMI to my TV has 'No Signal'... But it is recognising that there is a HDMI source as when it isn't plugged into my PC it says 'No Cable Connected'

Seriously stressed out over this!

I have tried:

- Other HDMI cables
- Different HDMI ports on my TV
- Plugging HDMI into the back of my Xbox One's 'HDMI IN' port
- Updated my ATI drivers
- Booting with just the HDMI plugged in, no DVI

So PC folk, is this a Graphics Card issue, HDMI port issue, PSU issue, or hopefully simple settings issue?

Specs below:

AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
XPS 8300

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1

Yesterday my computer was working fine but since I was moving I had to bubblewrap it, put it into a suitcase and fly abroad with it. Today when I turn it on a "check signal cable" message appears on the monitor/

Ive tried all the different cable connections possible between the computer/monitor but none of them seem to have any effect on the situation.

The Monitor is a Samsung 223BW and the computer has a nvidia 8800 graphics card and intel quad core cpu. (sorry thats all i remember/can check)

I use my tv as my screen and sound for my desktop using the hdmi cable.
It worked perfectly until recently when all of sudden it stopped working and displayed "no signal".
I also got a xbox 360 from a friend and when I connect via HDMI it also displays "no signal".
I searched all over the web for solution, but couldn't find one...

I have 2 separate hdmi cable, so i'm not trying one cable that might be broken for both.
When I connect the desktop via hdmi, I hear a connecting sound from the computer but nothing displays on tv and shows "no signal". My desktop also identifies the LG-TV.

Also, after I connect the cables and I flip through the channels to get to the hdmi channel, it says "connnecting..." at the top for like 10 seconds then displays "no signal"

I have Dell SX2800 desktop and I have LG 50PX4DR TV

Please help

If both devices aren't working, I'd suspect a hardware fault with the monitor.

Ensure you desktop resolution is set to a standard TV spec resolution (ie: 480P, 720P, 1080P @ 60hz).

I'm new to this forum and I searched through different topic to see a solution to my problem and unfortunately found nothing.

I have a 27" samsung screen plugged to my pc with an hdmi cable.

When I open my pc, the screen display nothing during the boot until It gets to my desktop.

It has been a few weeks already but now I'm really tired about the problem.
My screen was plugged in with a dvi cable before and there was no problem.

My graphic card is geforce gtx560 fermi and I use windows 7 pro x64.

It's really annoying when I want to get to the bios or for any other kind of situation.

My driver is also up to date.

Any solution :/? I don't know what to do. :dead:

With a DVI cable it works and with an HDMI cable you have a problem. You will have to check the PC's video settings and make sure they are set properly for HDMI use

Alrighty guys, i have a problem.

About a week ago, my PC was running just fine. My monitor was also running fine(Im using a HDMI cable for my monitor).
Then one morning i turn on my PC, and my monitor displays "no signal" with a black background. So i try using the VGA cord and poof! It works! But when i switch back to the HDMI the same thing as before happens.
I conclude that i needed a new Graphics Card.
So i go ahead and buy the nVidia Geforce GTX 650 2G.
It came in this morning and i installed in onto the PC. I figure out that the output from this Graphics Card is mini-HDMI so i buy a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable.
Guess what happens???
SAME THING!!! Black screen with "No Signal"
I revert back to the VGA cord and poof! It magically works!
I have gone all over the web searching for solutions. NONE!!!
I rolled back the driver, system restored, changed the resolution, changed the cable, and still i get no result.
So i decided to try it on a different monitor.
It worked! But right after the system booted up, literally right before the login screen would come up, the screen goes black and there is no signal!
So i restarted my PC and decided to run it again but in safe mode. And it worked fine, only on safe mode.
I also tried using the monitor with another system (Xbox 360) using a HDMI cable.
It worked on both inputs...

Right now I can only use my VGA cable, and i want to use my HDMI.
Im not setting up dual screens or anything. Im just siplmy... Read more

I bought a new RAM (512 * 2) and put them in the 2 solts. Then i got the usual "dumping physical meomory" error, so I had to reinstall windows.

After reinstalling windows, eveything was fine until I restarted the computer. Then the monitor screen displays "Signal Cable Disconnect".

a friend is telling me that my Video Card need to be changed because he said it is not compatible with the new RAM.

Any ideas why changing the RAM causes the monitor to stop working and how to solve that.
Thanks in advance.

A:"Signal Cable Disconnect" after changing RAM

No such thing as video card and RAM not being compatible. Since you were working inside of the case the first thing is to check all of your connections, video card etc. Try resetting CMOS with the jumper on the MB. Put the old RAM back in--does it work? Details about your MB and the RAM you are using would be helpful.

I had this issue today with my ASUS LCD monitor. I called tech support and they couldn't help me at all, they recommended an RMA. I checked online and couldn't find anything either. I fixed it... it is extremely simple!! I want to post this online for others having this problem. At the moment, the ASUS website is down, or else I'd be posting it on their forum.

If you are having this issue, press the button just to the left of the Power button, it will cycle through the available inputs. Press it until you see your desktop...

The manual does NOT say anything about this button, and it is not marked well. One thing I cannot believe is that ASUS actually told me to RMA the monitor... I asked them repeatedly "Are you sure there is not anything I can do to fix it?" and they just kept telling me that it was a "known issue" and that an RMA would likely be the only solution.

So, if you are having this problem, press the button to the left of the Power button and it will fix it!

Tell you what, I almost had a stroke over this. It's my birthday, and I thought my monitor died. I was in disbelief, and am still in disbelief over the service I got from customer support.

What's more? The manual included with the monitor does not even give a customer support phone number, or any type of troubleshooting, I had to go online to find it on my laptop. I found that an unfortunate amount of people were actually RMA'ing the ... Read more

Hi there

Here's my story:

I left my pc on while I was at work. There was a storm that day and I don't have a surge protector.
I got home and my Samsung syncmaster P2250 lcd monitor said "check signal cable". So I did. Everything seemed fine. I googled the problem but no one had the exact same issue so I fiddled with the pc and made it worse.

I work at a computer shop on weekends so I took it into them and asked them to look at it. Their monitor wouldn't respond to my pc either. They were convinced that it was struck by lightning and the motherboard was damaged.

My brother then lent me a pc. I plugged it into my monitor and the exact same problem has now occurred. "Check signal cable". I plugged in two older CRT monitors and they aren't responding either.

Is it possible that the signal cable is actually causing the damage and has now destroyed my brother's pc too?

Please help.

Thank you

I have a complicated problem (aren't they all?) I had Adelphia Internet, and it worked well. They switched over to Comcast, and within a week, my high-speed internet connection was intermittent. The techs came to my house and decided I had a weak signal, but they couldn't fix it because when the basement was finished, the wiring was walled up. The issue, according to Comcast, is that the splitter goes primarily to the TV instead of the modem. Now, I've never had a problem with this in the past, only when it became Comcast. Because my connection is extremely fast the rest of the time, I don't think it's weak, only intermittent. Sometimes when I get the error Page Cannot Be Displayed, there is a very weak connection. When I ping, the response time is slow and 1 or 2 don't return (or all 4).

I noticed today that there were about 8 svchosts running at one time. I don't know what svchost is, but when I shut that down, the internet worked for a second before my PC restarted. I have a HiJackThis logfile that might help. What is going on?! Thanks a lot in advance.

A:No Signal from my computer to TV with HDMI cable

Hi Zack1, Try this to see if it helps.  Download the Chipset driver and Graphics driver on the links below and save the installers to your Desktop. Chipset Graphics Driver Next, in Device Manager, open Display Adapters, right click on the Intel graphics chip and select Properties.  Click the Driver tab and then select uninstall.  When done, do the same for the for the Intel High Definition Audio Codec found under Sound Video and Game Controllers. Now return to the Desktop and install the Chipset driver and then the Graphics driver.  When complete, reboot the PC and see if this has helped.  Check in Device Manager that both the Intel Graphics and the Intel Hi Definition Audio codec have reinstalled successfully and whether you now see the HDMI Audio option under playback devices ( found in Control Panel, Sound ) as shown as the top option on the screenshot below ( ignore the fact that it's ATI, i just mean the TV icon option ). http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w146/rproffitt2000/?action=view&current=7Speakers.png&newest=1 If it shows up correctly, try the HDMI connection and see if it now functions properly. Best wishes, DP-K

I just bought a new computer with a geforce 570 GTX with a mini hdmi output. This i wanted to connect to my samsung TV. First off, my PC only recognises a second monitor when my TV is connected at boot.

When i try to select HDMI source on the TV it's greyed out and i can't select it, because the TV doesnt detect a signal. I found a workaround for this, as i connect my laptop to my tv through HDMI (which works flawlessly), select source --> HDMI, then unplug my laptop, and plugin my new computer to the same input - meanwhile not touching the channels on the TV.

Now i get a picture on the TV from my new computer, it's crystal clear and actually works - but there is an error message across the TV screen: check signal cable - which never goes away. In addition the source HDMI is greyed out again, so if i navigate away from the source, i can't select it again. It seems like my TV doesnt detect that there actually are a signal, even though it's displaying it.

For troubleshooting i tried this: Tried 3 different cables of different lengths. My laptop to TV works flawlessly through HDMI - so it's not the port on the TV thats faulty. I tried connecting my new computer to my friends TV (a prosonic), and it works.

So i think it has to do with the combination of my new computer and my TV - as they apparantly works separately.

I also tried updating the firmware on my TV to the latest version. I tried updating GTX drivers (even tried a few older versions as well).

A:Nvidia GTX HDMI to Samsung TV, check signal cable

Welcome to Seven Forums letifere. Yours is a common issue, which you may have discovered in your search. I'm a TV tech, and I have run into this many times. It is not really a TV "problem", as the TV is working as designed. As you know the input will not show in the input list if there is no signal. Your TV also needs to do a "handshake" with the PC (any HDMI device).

It's possible if you boot the laptop with the TV already on, you may find the HDMI input becomes available (much as when you trick it).

1st off, are you plugging the HDMI from the PC into HDMI1 (DVI)? This is the input for connecting a PC.

I hate to say that many give up on HDMI from their PC and resort to DVI to HDMI adapters (there is a PC/DVI Audio in mini jack next to the HDMI1 (DVI) input).

I'd suggest speaking to Samsung customer support, as they have no doubt dealt with this many times, and might know a "trick"

I have an Acer H233H monitor that is capable of using either a DVI or HDMI cable, new computer has both outputs.. I am using the HDMI cable and when I reboot my computer i lose my video signal to my monitor. If I turn my monitor off and on the signal returns. My monitor is set to HDMI input, so I don't know if this is a Win 7 thing or just a configuration that I am missing.
I used the DVI cable and everything worked fine, monitor came on on reboot as it should. I can't use the DVI cable I have because it is too short, which is why I have switched to a HDMI cable.
I have no problem buying a longer DVI cable if this is a HDMI quirk that cannot be fixed.
Any ideas or suggestions?

My monitor immediately went black and said "VGA no signal".

Since then I can use the computer as normal when the HDMI cable is not connected but as soon as I connect the HDMI cable I get a black screen on my monitor. The screen shows on the projector as expected but the monitor screen is black.

My monitor only works when the HDMI cable to the projector is unplugged from the back of the desktop.

Before that I was doing the same thing with the big screen in our living room for months. I got up one day and wanted to plug it in but I kept getting a message saying no signal. I had had it plugged in the night before and it worked just fine. Yes, I checked to make sure it was on the right setting, HDMI 1. I also tried plugging it in the other HDMI slots on the tv and it didn't work in those either. It is doing the same thing to our tv in the living room and it just doesn't make any sense. The only thing I can think of is that my computer has some kind of driver that just needs to be updated or something but I have no idea which one. HELP PLEASE!

We have a nice signal from the router until about the same time each day. Only cable tv modem is available. Evidently the country neighbors do lots of internet during the afternoon.

Is there a way to boost the signal coming down the cable line ? The cable tv company has installed new cables from the pole into the house. We have installed all new cables in the house.

All of the boosters I've seen are for after the wireless signal gets to the cable modem.

Thanks !

A:wireless signal boost to help low signal from cable tv ?

This is a known issue with cable connections. When its not heavily used the signal, speeds can be good, but when it is used heavily things can deteriorate.

However, how do you know that the cable signal is changing? Unless someone from the cable company has measured the cable signal you don't know that is what is causing the problems. I don't think the signal level on the cable side will affect the wi-fi signal level on that side. They are two separate functions. If your wi-fi signal is deteriorating it has to be some other interference.

Going back to the cable signal level, I had a change every day around 1PM and the cable modem would lose sync. It turned out to be a bad underground cable between the main cable distribution amp and an intermediate amp in our neighborhood (every thing is under ground). It took a special crew to find and fix this, the tech that came to the house knew "nothing". I had to keep calling everyday when it went bad and after the problem went "chronic" then they got the cable crew on it.

This isn't a problem with Wireless Zero Configuration, incidentally; my wife had that problem in the past, but that isn't it. Our three computers all insist we're connected just fine, yet no websites will come up on any of them.

It looks like you have a possibly good ethernet connection through a broadband modem. Are you having trouble with this connection?

We cannot help with your attempts to connect to a neighbor's network because you are violating the law and/or the neighbor is violating the terms of service of his ISP.

Hardware/software: 400w power supply, asus p4s533, crucial 512 mb ddr 2100 ram, intel p4 2.0a , nvidia 128mb ti4200, soundblaster audigy, western digital 80 gb hdd, liteon cdr, xp pro.

Computer previously worked. On boot, monitor appears to receive no signal, and the asus talkback/speach report feature loops the phrase "system failed memory test". What are possible sources for this problem?

I havent had a chance to troubleshoot it yet, but find it suprising i received that error because I've ran and passed memtest many times in the last few m onths, although i guess its posssible it somehow croaked last 2 or 3 weeks sometime? Last time it was on Comp was acting weird. IE Explorer windows would keep hanging, and when i minimized programs the image stayed up on screen even after ctrl alt del to end them. I updated anti virus and full scan that passed fine so i turned off computer, and woke up to this, ironicly also friday the 13th lol.

A:on boot, no monitor signal, "system failed memory test"

I would start with the following:
[NOTE:] When clearing CMOS, remove power, and press power button to discharge motherboard.

1) Clear CMOS. If it boots, then go into CMOS and load setup defaults
2) Remove all cables and extra PCI cards. Only run Power Sup., Vid card, Proc., Memory, MoBo. Clear CMOS. If powers, add one card/cable at a time and see where it stops. If it doesn't power, proceed to step 3.
3) Place the mem. chip in another slot. Test. If more than one stick, try one at a time in different slots.
4) Try different Vid card.
5) Try separate power supply
6) Check Proc. (Too much thermal grease, smoke smell, cracked edges)
7) Remove MoBo from case. Look for burn marks. If you know what you are doing, try running step 2 without the case to see if it posts.

Did I miss anything? Please add if you think of anything.

I had a pc which blew up on me about 5 years ago. I always
thought that it was the power supply but I got a new one and never
bothered to get this fixed.
However, I've recently had cause to need a second pc. Thus I thought
about trying to get the old girl fixed.
I took the power supply out of another old broken pc (but I knew the power supply was working) and
replaced this with the presumed broken one. Feeling nervous pressed the button and started up
first time and went through the boot sequence no problem. Excellent I thought, (seeing XP for the first
time in years) feeling pleased with myself as I didn't think that I would be able to get it to work.
So I shut it down, disconnected the cables and got some compressed air and gave it a bit of a clean.
As there was much fluff/dirt which has accumulated over the years.
Reconnected the cables and attempted to start again. However this time for reasons unknown it'd not
boot. Instead I got the error message "no signal input or cable disconnected" and the monitor was blank.
so I tried with another monitor and this time it'd just went into safe power mode. Again it would not
turn on when the start button was pressed on the PC.
Now this exact same problem used to happen to me five years ago. That is every now and again the monitor
would just go into safe power mode and refuse to start. I never knew why but I always managed to get it
working again eventually. Unplugging the power cables, changing m... Read more

A:Old PC briefly brought back from the dead but now "no signal input error"

Since it did occur after removing all of the cables, and based on the error "no signal input or cable detected" you could have possibly put the cables back in the wrong places, or the cables aren't seated all the way. I would do a double check of that and reseat all the cables.

Hello there,

I've been having this problem for awhile now, my wireless connection periodically goes and reads "No Internet Access", despite still be "connected" to my connection, with 5 bars "Excellent" signal. The only quick"fix" I've found helps is "renewing my IP"(ipconfig /renew), and when doing so I get the message (see attached picture).

Despite the "error message", this still fixes it, causing my connection symbol to turn into a refresh symbol, and ~5 sec later the is gone and my connection is "restored".

But how can I fix this for good, what is wrong? I can only assume that my GATEWAY is scrambling IPs, and every so often (about 30-45 minutes) it does this, and I have to "reset my IP", but im CLUELESS.

Please help!

Thank you SO much!

I mainly play LoL and Starcraft 2. But recently I can't get through a full game! A few minutes into each game my monitors turn black and (after scanning through each input) read "No Signal". The sound of the game stops and I can sometimes hear a faint buzz from the speakers. My computer continues to run but my monitor remains Signal-less!

I've been looking for a solution all day but cannot find any threads that match my situation exactly...I've checked driver updates (none), I've updated Windows (up to date), and I've defragmented my Hard drive! Nothing that I've done worked...

-Windows 7
-Intel Core2Duo 2.2GHZ
-Asus p5G41T-M LX PLUS
-MK Power 650W PSU
-GeForce GT 430
-400GB HD
-Dual Monitor Acer 20'' 1600x900

I realize it's a dated rig...but I've never had these problems before...Could it be my PSU is too weak? or my GPU? or my monitors? I built this computer myself, my first one...worked good [for about a 1.5yrs] till now...PLEASE HELP ME!

Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting here, so I ask that you please bear with me :) I am a freelance computer tech who works on people's PCs in my spare time. I am working on a customer's PC now; they are an older couple who mainly uses the system for little tasks, no major gaming or media or anything (which is funny once you see some of the specs on their system), and though I have some ideas what may be wrong with it, I am unable to pinpoint anything specific, and so I turn to the experts :)

First off, some specs on their system:
It's an HP Media Center PC case, but components have been changed in it from what they've told me. It has an ECS Nettle3 Mobo with an AMD Phenom X4 9500 CPU (running 2.2GHz). The GPU is an ASUS brand nVidia 8500GT. It has 3GB RAM (2x1GB + 2x512MB). The PSU is a LiteOn PS-5301-08HA.

The reason they wanted me to look at it is because they reported that the screen would, seemingly at random, go blank, with a "No Signal" message. The CPU still seemed to be running, but nothing on screen. They said this also occasionally happened as soon as they tried to start up the PC, and would never even see the system post. But again, they said it sounded like the PC was running, but no image. I have the PC at my shop now, and I have been unable to duplicate this issue; I have run Prime95 and MSI Kombuster just to stress test the CPU and GPU, but so far everything seems to be fine. I opened the case and checked connections and ... Read more

How can this be so hard? Why does Windows make it impossible to change monitors?

Here's a summary of the problem, with details below:

System: Windows 7-64 HomePremium SP1 with all important updates, Radeon HD 4830 video card. Gigabyte MB, Intel E8500 CPU, 8GB memory.

My old monitor gave out a couple of days ago, so I went to the store yesterday and got a new one. It does not have a resolution mode that matches my old monitor, and I cannot turn that resolution off, so I keep getting "No Signal" when the video adapter is enabled. The monitor works fine in safe mode and with the video adapter disabled, but every time I try to reinstall the video adapter, it goes back to the old, incompatible resolution, and I get "No Signal."
Here are the details:

I hooked up my new monitor (to the HDMI output, same as the old one), turned on the PC, the monitor showed it going through the BIOS startup, and the Windows startup, but just before the login screen, it went black and said "No Signal."

OK, I know what the problem is. My old monitor had a native resolution of 1650 by something, and my new one is like 1920x1080, and doesn't have a 1650 mode. So I reboot and start Windows in safe mode. Now I can log in to Windows at 800x600. It has an ugly black background, but it works.

I go into Device Manager and disable the video adapter (my card is a Radeon 4830), and restart. Now Windows comes up in its normal pretty blue background. I go into Displa... Read more

A:New Monitor reports "No Signal" with display driver enabled

you didn't say what brand/model the new monitor is---what is it's native resolution?

the new monitor should have come with a driver disk--and that's where you should be installing drivers from.

did you try a different HDMI cable? did you try a DVI or Display Port cable?
did you check t0 make sure the card is seated properly?

Radeon4830 specs show
Dual Link DVI supports 18-, 24-, and 30-bit digital displays at all resolutions up to 1920x1200 (single-link DVI) or 2560x1600 (dual-link DVI)
HDMI All display resolutions up to 1920x1080

you should be able to start machine in safe mode--install drivers that came with monitor--then restart and it should just work--if you're getting a 'no signal' message--there is a loose connection somewhere--or perhaps the monitor is 'not' functional--there really can be 'bad new' products--try the monitor on another machine!

I have a problem right now with my (other) computer connecting to the internet. This same problem happened before, a couple of months ago.

What's happening is: apparently internet-dependent functions such as gadgets do update correctly, and it says I'm connected to our network, and in fact it currently says the signal strength is "excellent". Other computers in our house are connected just fine, so the problem is not the signal, the router or modem, etc. Yet, none of the browsers will connect. I have tried Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer. They all say unable to connect to server.

When it happened before, I did a system restore and it temporarily fixed the problem (for about 24 hrs) and then it would happen again, and I would do another restore, until a few times into this cycle, and the restore "bandaid" did not work to fix the problem anymore.

At my wits' end I was about to go ahead and boot from my system image disks, and just restore everything back to that point, and mysteriously, the internet worked properly again, right before I resorted to the extreme solution.

I'm hoping I won't have to resort to that, this time, but system restore is not resolving the problem (whatever it is) at all.

Any ideas what's going on, and how I can fix this without resetting my computer?

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

So this is a problem I've been having for a couple months or so.

It started when I was playing a game, Payday 2, through steam. About maybe 20-30 minutes into playtime, the monitor suddenly went black and then said there was "No Signal" coming in from the PC, even though it was still plugged in.

Whenever I tried playing Payday 2 the same issue would occur but I did nothing about it.

Soon, other games led to the same problem. Some examples are Alice: The Madness returns (Happened maybe an hour into playtime), Dead Cells (Roughly an hour or two into playtime), and Fallout 4 (Happens 10-20 minutes into playtime). I might be forgetting others.

It's rather frustrating to not be able to play games on my desktop anymore, and this strange occurance only happens when I try playing games. I could leave the computer on for hours while not playing games, just watching YouTube or Twitch and still have it be fine.

Something I noticed recently when this happens: The sound will keep playing, but there's a moment where I won't have control over the game that's running. In Fallout 4, whenever the disconnect would happen, the game would return my mouse to the center of the screen and would not register mouse movement in that time.

I should mention that my PC has an HDMI port, where I use an HDMI to VGA converter to connect to the monitor. If I unplug and replug the converter, the screen will temporarily come back before disconnecting again. I've ... Read more

My wifi signal is fine, but I've been getting a yellow ( "!" ) error msg over the wifi icon and losing connection every 5 minutes or so. Some quick background....... (Recently upgraded my dsl speed from ISP provider. Same modem and wifi router, but I did reset them a couple of weeks ago, but the wifi disconnecting just recently started.)

Anyway, just did a diagnosis, and it mentioned "DNS error".

The only thing I can figure is that I had at one point a couple weeks ago connected my ethernet cable to the laptop when having issues with resetting the modem. So under Control panel-network connections-change adapter settings, I disabled "local area connection" and the "wireless network connections 2 and 3" (whatever those are?).

Oddly, for the last 30 minutes hasn't been cutting out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yesterday, I purchased an Nvidia 8800 GTS SSC video card to replace my old radeon 1600x pro. My original computer came from CyberPowerPC, so I did not do the original wiring for my system. When I went to install the new video card, I had to unplug the SATA cable to my hard drive and another cable literally taped to the old video card that had a tag labled "VGA don't pull!!". Now, I have noticed that type of cord is taped randomly through out my computer case, so I would imagine it has something to do with the computer LCD heat screen.

I inserted the new nvidia card, but realized I needed to replace my power supply because the watt value wasn't strong enough. So, I gently removed the card and reinserted the old one back into its slot. I then plugged the SATA cable back into where I believed I removed it from on the motherboard. I closed the case and then the computer boots up, but the monitor reads "No Signal". While I would LOVE to fix this until my new power supply (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817162014) gets here tomorrow, I am very curious why my monitor won't recognize the signal.

Is it possible that I have plugged the SATA cables back in wrong or would this have any effect? Did I short circuit my original video card? Is my guess that the "taped" VGA cable actually for the heat sensor?

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Thanks for your reply in advance.

Hey guys, I'm currently troubleshooting a friends PC which has display issues directly after rebooting from an Avast AV update. Like so many similar issues, the pc seems to run fine (HDD spinning & LED light flashing, CPU fan spinning), Although, I've yet to hear mobo beep.
This is what I've tried already;
Reseating ram and graphics card. Trying another graphics card, monitor, graphics cable and PSU. After that, I tried scanning the HDD as a secondary drive in my own machine for a virus. It managed to get boot priority in my machine and it actually booted fine so I gathered from that, that it's not a software problem. I've heard people on forums talk about resetting CMOS but there seems to be issues that follow that.

Not fully sure of his spec, only it's a Packard Bell, OS: Win Vista x64, CPU: Intel Core2 Quad. If you need more info on spec I can boot it in my machine again and get it.

Merry Christmas

Hi, this is my first post. I have been trying to put together a computer, bought all the parts, put it all together, but when I connect it to a monitor it says "check connection." I cannot reach the BIOS screen at all...I have tried everything suggested, unplugging the RAM and just putting 1 stick in, unplugging the video card and putting it back, even tried using a different monitor. I have checked my connections over and over and can't find out what's wrong. All parts were bought brand new on Newegg. This is the first computer that I have built so I'm new..just wanted to see if I can get any help. Thanks in advance..

I am now clutching at straws. I have searched the web and cannot find a solution to the problem below although there is a similar problem with MCE 2005 with the digital Audio overlay. I can see this is not an uncommon problem and cannot find anything for VISTA. Please help.

When playing recorded TV MY VISTA MCE will, from time to time, freeze the picture on screen (the PC still appears to be running - I can move the mouse) for several minutes, then return to playing the recorded TV. Some times when this freeze occurs, I will get the 'no TV signal' blue screen. And sometimes (but not often) I will get a dialogue box with "Logon process has failed to create security options dialogue" "Failure security options".

I have an external Maxtor firewire 1 Tb disk - I have disabled Firewire and using USB for this device -still get error,

I have change some of the BIOS settings - no change,

I have change to various versions of Video drivers (MSI 8500GT Nvidia card) - no change,

I have reloaded VISTA numerous times - no change,

I have VISTA SP 1 - no change,

I have updated all the drivers I can, both with WIN update and one by one in device manager by looking on the net and on local drive - no change,

Hello everyone,

I just had this problem occur the other day. I was playing the new WoW, when I started getting a really BAD picture: lines going across my screen, red and green dots and what not.

Then the game froze and I had to shut down the computer. I tried logging on a few more times with the same problems.

I tried logging on just to use the internet and the screen kept going black, then back to normal, eventually just freezing.

Now, when I log on, the screen goes black right at the blue login screen, and my moniter reads" IGN no input signal."

I am running Microsoft XP. I saw another thread like this elsewhere with the agreed-upon cause being overheating. All my fans work (including processor and video card) and I even took off the side panel after the computer has been off for a day, still no luck.

The oldest parts on my computer are the harddrive (safe to assume this is not the problem) and my video card.

Any help would be appreciated, and sorry if this is in the wrong board
