The best file share program ??????

Q: The best file share program ??????

Can anyone tell me the best prson to person file sharing program
that is reasonably secure.

it is so that i can share files with a freind without having to search through hundreds of other users to find them over the internet.

i have been looking for days now and have had no luck whatsoever, Any help with this problem would be massively welcomed by myself and the freind i am trying to share the files with.

As said before the kind of program i am talking about is one where we could directly connect, or one where we could easily find each other, maybe just by typing in username ect.....

Preferred Solution: The best file share program ??????

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: The best file share program ??????

the easiest way to do what you want is to set up an FTP Server.

FTP is secure if you make sure that you assign accounts and not set it up as anonymous!

many different FTP Programs out there! F-Serv seems to be one of the most popular!

check out Downloads.com or TUCOWS.

HI All,
We have set up three users in a home network where one person holds all the files on their PC and that folder is shared for access to everyone.  It is a remote location so no need to have it too locked down.  I haven't created a homegroup but can
if that changes things.  the issue is that at the moment two people can open the same file at the same time without any message about the file already being in use - then the rule of "last person to save the file" wins.  Is there any way
- by settings on the PC, or by using homegroup instead, or by using a third party tool - to prevent this from happening?

Well, where to put this strange problem? XP, Office or Network Forum. All three seem to be involved somehow.

What gives?

I have a few large Excel files on
a) a share on a Win XP SP2 desktop
b) a share on a WIn Vista desktop
c) a share on a Ubuntu 6.06 desktop

When i mean large, i mean ~75Mb

When i work on my laptop (Win Xp SP2, 1Gb Ram, 1,86 GHz), i can access all shares just fine. But when i right click such a large Excel file on the XP or Vista computer and click 'Properties', my laptop becomes unresponsive for about a minute. Then, at last, the properties are shown. In the Taskmanager, on the LAN tab, it shows that my LAN connection is swamped at 70% for a whole minute. Sniffing the network traffic learns that the entire contents of the file is being transferred through the network to my laptop!
Just to see the properties...

However, when i right click the same file on a Ubuntu share, the properties come up instantly.

When i right click other large files on the XP/Vista shares (like *.iso of *.avi files), bingo, properties pop up instantly.

When i right click the large Excel files on the Xp/Vista share from a Win 2003 server (without office installed), voila, properties show up instantly.

So why is the whole Excel file transferred by just right clicking it for properties?
I'm convinced this behaviour adds to slow file share performance in general. For example, if i want to copy such a large excel file form the XP or Vista share, it takes 10... Read more

So, here's the situation:

I'm currently trying to help a business set up their client-management program to work in two separate locations on two different high speed connections. On a LAN, the program essentially runs in two separate instances from the same executable. I'm not able to transfer the program itself, because the license does not carry over to the second computer; so basically, I have to run it from a shortcut to the primary PC.

My question is this: does anybody have an idea to run the program (as a shortcut or some type of server) from this location to the primary location, in a similar manner as the LAN computer using the shortcut?

A:Program share outside LAN?

I suggest they buy the proper multi-user version of the application. There are a multitude of issues trying to run a program installed on one machine over the network on another machine!

Basically I am looking for a high end form of Skype, but because there are only two computers needed with this, I don't need any "middle-men" and the bad latency.

I am trying to collaborate with another musician. We've seen websites where you can pay something like 10 dollars a month to have live jam sessions with each other online but it's more ideal for groups of 4 people. We both have high speed connections and I figured there's got to be a free 2-person oriented alternative we could use to directly connect to each other over the web while achieving high audio quality and low latency. Any ideas?

What is the best way for two people to be able to file share across the internet? Is Windows 7's vpn the way to go or should I use a seperate software package to acomplish this.

What we want to do is set up a directory on each computer as a share and be able to access that directory from either computer at any time and transfer files back and forth. This way my son and I can share pictures and such without having to attach everything to emails. And sometimes there are limits to the size of files you can attach.

Anyway is there a step by step tutorial on how to do something like this around anywhere? I seen the vpn tutorials but it really doesn't show how to set something like this up.

My wife did a 30 minute radio (Talk) interview which they sent to her via email that happens to be an MP3 file format. She wanted to share this on FB with some friends, but I have little success trying to get this to work. I tried uploading from her files where we have the file saved, Audioboo and also tried a hosting service. Thought the hosting service was going to be the answer, but when it was finally finished uploading 40 minutes later there were two urls  and neither gave me what I needed. I was wondering if anyone has a simple solution. I do know that in most cases that FB will not allow certain files so I hope this may not be the case here. Thank you so much.

Zapr is free and lets you create URL links to any files or folders on your PC. You can then send these links to others (via email or IM or YOURNAME.zapr.com) and they can d/load the files or see the folders directly from your PC via any browser. They do not need to register or install software.

You can password protect for private use or leave it open for your blog/website.

I know I can't use it if it's in use, but I can't share it anymore and I used to.

Real quick. .pst file is in its default location on my laptop. The folder named outlook (in local settings, app data, microsoft, etc.) is shared. Up until 3 days ago, I could access that file from another computer on my network. It was the default mail file for my other computer on the network. No problem.

Went on vacation, had problems with dialup, etc, etc. and must have changed some setting in or outside of outlook. I cannot for the life of me get accesss to the .pst file in question as a mail file from the computer on my network. I can browse to it from any computer on the network. I can use it as the default .pst file on my laptop where it is resident. No problem.

Problem is that when I am on my network, I use my network pc where all of my other programs and apps are and I can't get my mail there! Help!

Our network runs on a 2008 active directory domain, and our domain controller also is an internal DNS server; we have an additional server that is our internal web server and hosts a RAID 1 mirrored file share for everyone to put their data (which we have folder redirection configured on for the My Documents folder, and people also access it as a mapped network drive). It all works flawlessly, except on two client computers.

1. The two clients can ping the file server both by name and IP.
2. Clients can can log into the file server by remote desktop, by name.
3. Nslookup shows that the clients can communicate with the DNS server and resolve the domain name to the correct IP address.
4. Clients can access the internal sites at http://<file server>

5. Clients cannot access the file share at \\<file server>, but can access it at \\
6. I have already flushed the DNS cache on the client machines.

It?s really odd, because it would seem like this is a DNS issue but everything else works: http dns works, nslookup works, and I already flushed the DNS cache. These are the only computers having any issues at all. All the computers on the network have their dns server manually assigned, and all the servers have a DHCP reservation so their IP won?t change.

You guys have any idea?

A:can access file share by ip but not by name

A:File share problems

Check to see if file and print sharing is installed.

1.) Click on the Start button and then select Settings > Control Panel.
2.) Double-click on the Network Dial-Up Connections.
3.) In the new window that appears, right-click on the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties from the menu.
4.) In the Local Area Connection Properties window, check that the General tab is selected. Under the Components checked are used by this connection section, check that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is listed and make sure that its checkbox is checked. If it is listed, the computer is already configured for file sharing; click Cancel.

If it is not listed, then:
Click the Install button.
Click once on Service to select that option.
Click Add.
Click once on File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks to select it and then click OK.
Click Close.

I have a vista laptop connected wirelessly and an xp based pc connected by cable to a linksys router. I have just replaced my old router for this new one and internet access / email is fine. I can access files on the vista machine from my xp pc fine as before.

In my organization we decided to implement EFS for mobile users: I used a "Server Windows 2012 R2" on which I defined a share and mobile laptops in Windows 7.

Now we want to use this Server's Folder as a repository for encryped user file, so I started testing and I found the following issues:I'm able to copy from the laptop to the share (I'm also able to encrypy directly from the share), but, even if the files
are encypted correctly, the Data Recovery Agents is stripped off: The result on the network Share is that the file is encryped correctly, but there is no Data Recovery Agent.I feel I have not understood how remote encryption works, but, from licterature:In

The next step will be "offline files", Could anyone tell me in advance if this configuration is supported ?

Its not much more complex than just putting the file in your shared folder. When someone does a search that contains your file's name, it will show up on a search.

If you really want to share something - effectively, that is - then go onto IRC, find a channel that's serving the kind of file you are sharing, then use a bot such as sysreset to serve access to the file.

But, in answer to your question, as far as I know, you just place it in your shared folder.

Hi I am trying to share a Microsoft Project file (.mpp), but I can't. I have all shareing options enabled correctly - I've share alot of files from my computer so I know how to do it, but when right-clicking & selecting Share With on this file, it just opens the Advanced Sharing options which is specific for all file sharing, not this particular file, & they are set correctly (network discovery on, etc., etc.).

There is a lock on the file's icon, could that be the reason? I can't find any locking feature or other options to make it accessible. It's in my users/public/documents folder, & when selecting that folder from the remote computer, it shows everything in there but this file.

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before, but I am having immense problems trying to set up a network using my router to share, transfer & stream files between computers and Android tablets.

Searching the internet has had me going round in circles, with the most common answer being to enable file sharing on the devices & that will magically make everything work. It hasn't!

I'll start with the devices I have already tried, then add the devices I would also like to add:

Thomson 858 router (supplied by ISP)
Desktop PC, Windows Vista Home Premium connected via ethernet
Toshiba Sat Pro Laptop, Windows XP Pro connected via wifi
Samsung Galaxy 2 Tablet, Android, connected via wifi

On each device I have enabled file sharing. Between the Vista & XP machines, I have been able to get the XP to show in Network, but when I click on it I get a "not accesible" error message.

I can't see any sign of the Vista machine on the XP.

When I share files on the Tablet, again it will show in Vista, but when clicked on opens Windows Media Player and only shows what should be on the Vista machine. Again on the Tablet, I can't find the Vista device to share with.

They the devices I have tried. The other devices include:

HP laptop, Windows 7 Home, to connect via wifi
Samsung Netbook, Windows XP Pro, via wifi
2 x Generic Android tablets, via wifi
2 x HTC Andriod phones (not essential but would be nice)
