Primary internal battery error-diagnostics battery test shut...

Q: Primary internal battery error-diagnostics battery test shut...

After a round of Windows updates, I went to turn on my laptop and recieved the "Primary internal battery (601)" error. After this screen, however, Windows would not load. I have tried taking the battery out and 'draining the charge', and starting up the computer plugged directly to AC with no battery. Windows still does not load. The start-up test in the diagnostics menu said the battery needed calibration, however when I go to run the battery test, it gets to "waiting for battery to charge" and exits out of the test without giving me any results at all. Currently when turning on the computer I no longer get the "primary internal battery" error, it just goes directly to a black screen with blinking cursor. Any help is appreciated, I'm completely at a loss here!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, first all the facts: Model: Pavilion TS 11Year bought: 2013product Number: E2V68EA#ABDBattery test result: primary battery failed - replace (42)Error code: 0GF2MR - 6MW8H9 - XD7WXF - C0A503 The problem: I have noticed the very first time the battery did not fully charge up to 100% app. 1 1/2 years ago. Then it always stayed at about 75%. I made several battery tests, yet everything seemed to be fine. Two days ago, I noticed the battery was down to 7% - not charging even though it should be. I run some battery tests again and the error stated above suddenly came up. The HP battery test via the support center sated everything was okay, yet as I googled the primary battery failed message, I kind of got alarmed.  There is no warranty left and the touchscreen had to be disabled a couple of months ago, because it was not working properly as well. I hope for advises - does it actually make sense to try to repair it? Can this problem be repaired - as far as I understand, the primary battery means changing the removable battery won't help at all? Best wishes,Kristina

Hi, The error message you receive at boot and the description of the issue both confirm that your notebooks main Lithium Ion battery needs to be replaced ( not the cell on the system board as the message tends to indicate ).  The Primary (internal) Battery (601) error indicates that the storage capacity of the main battery has fallen below 25% of its original capacity. Further information on this can be found in the following HP Document. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01443470 Regards, DP-K

Hi @Marg44,  First and foremost, I want to welcome you to the HP Support Forums! Here at the forums, you have many community members that will help you toward a solution. If my reply resolves your issue or answer your question(s), please click the Accept as Solution button to allow others to find the solution.  Generally speaking, if "Primary (internal) Battery (601)" appears in an alert message, it means the measured storage capacity of the primary battery is less than 25% of the original storage capacity. The number ?601? denotes the associated error code that is recorded in the system log. The best way to check and see if the Battery error is accurate would be to update the Notebook's BIOS and then test the battery again using the Battery Test in the System Diagnostics (F2) environment. Here are the steps for the HP System Diagnostic Battery Test from the Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 7) document:  To access the HP System Diagnostics Battery Test:Unplug the power cord and turn off the computer.Press the power button to turn on the computer.Immediately press the Esc key and press it repeatedly while the computer starts. The Start Up menu opens.Press F2 to select F2 System Diagnostics.Click Battery Test from the list of Hardware Diagnostic options.Plug in the power cord (if not already done).Click Start Batter... Is the warning for the PRIMARY battery or for the CMOS battery?Battery's can poop out on you even if they are new.Should be nothing more than a warranty replacement for the primary, as for the CMOS, best to send it in to have that done under warranty.Soooo, if the primary battery is out of the laptop, and you plug in the AC, do you still get the FAIL prompt?AND....Do the HP BATTERY CHECK from the HP ADVISOR program.

I am not sure in which category this applies, so I apologize if this is not the correct location...

I am working on an HP G62 with a couple of issues.

First is that I keep getting a "Primary (internal) Battery (601)" message at boot up. I replaced the CR2032 CMOS battery - which tests good under load, by the way - and tried to run the battery calibration under System Diagnostics (which I didn't really think applied to the CMOS battery anyway, but HP says it does so...) but I still get the same message. I also cleaned the battery contacts with a fiberglass brush. When I did the battery calibration, it just hung. That was on AC, so I tried it on battery and the laptop died after a couple of minutes - leading me to believe that the SECONDARY (EXTERNAL) battery is the battery that is bad, despite the laptops insistence that it's the primary battery...

Second problem is that when I try to boot to windows "normally" it goes through the "starting windows" screen but then very QUICKLY flashes a blue screen and reboots. When I try to boot into the System Recovery software, it boots up to a blue-background screen with a mouse icon that I can move but the recovery software never loads, regardless of how long I let it set.

Any ideas on either issue would be ever so greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

A:Primary (internal) Battery (601) + System Restore Fails

I'm not familiar with laptops that have both primary and secondary batteries connected (with most laptops you need to physically replace the depleted battery with the spare). Why do you think that it is really the secondary battery? Wouldn't the error code be 602 instead of 601? If both batteries are the same you could switch them and see what happens.

Can you get into the BIOS and check to see if it is detecting the hard drive? If so, run any disk diagnostic that the BIOS may have.

Hoping this problem will be noticed by more people, the original post on this issue came from:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/T470-Linux-Power-Bridge-wrong-discharge-order/td-p/365...https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/63odjr/t470_battery_order_question_internal_discharges/ Brief description: same problem with OS including Win 10, Ubuntu 16.04, Gentoo etc. The internal battery always gets discharged first regardless its remaining power, which is generally harmless but seems not so good for the internal battery life. With my own T470 machine, updated with the latest 1.29 BIOS, this problem remains. According to searching results online, this little bug came with early versions of X's and T' including T460. PS: this issue had been successfully fixed with T460 via BIOS update 1.26, hoping it would be fixed with T470 sooner or later. Best regards.

Hi everyone, Title says it all, I know this topic of discharging internal battery first has been brought up a lot, and that the reason behind it is this: The T470s are designed to drain the battery with least wear first so as to degrade both batteries equally and prolong the laptop's overall battery life. However, as I'm using a new 61++ battery, clearly somethig is going wrong somewhere as the year old internal battery cannot be in better condition than the brand new external.https://gyazo.com/6c12f3f40514599d04d852a8589189ab Any ideas? Thanks!

Can we have your full model number? I think the error you are seeing refers to the "main", large battery and not the little clock or CMOS battery. Is your system closed so that the battery is not easily removeable? The full model number will point us to the right service manual which will show the part you need and the replacement process. It would help to know your laptop model. But I would say the "internal" is the CMOS or Real Time Clock battery. That is why I ask your model because it is unusual to see one of those die in less than 5 years. The model of the laptop would also allow us to show you how to replace the internal battery. It can be quite a job although the little battery (like a hearing aid battery) is very inexpensive usually.

Hi, Since a couple of months I have had an issue with my pavilion laptop. When I start the laptop I get once in a while an Internal Error 601 which states I have to replace my battery. When windows has started, windows shows an issue with   the accu and shows error messages like : ''Plugged in, not charging'' and a batterypercentage of 0%. Actually I can work with the laptop for hours, the only problem is when my laptop shuts down because Windows thinks the battery is empty. When I plug in the adapter, reboot the system and unplug the adapter the battery continues to work (but still shows the errors).Sometimes I don't get the internal error at all and windows shows perfectly the remaining power left within the battery, but when connecting the adapter or when the accu is fully charged, the computer shuts down and when rebooting the internal error comes again.  I did run the HP System Diagnostics Battery Test twice (once while showing the internal error and once while everything works fine), the first time it shows I have to replace the battery, the second time it states: ''The battery is working fine'' and shows a capacity of 80%.  I really don't know how to fix this issue, replacing the battery is quite expensive and I don't know if the battery is really damaged. A:Internal Battery Error: 601 on HP 15-u010dx 360 laptop

Hi, The 601 error is actually a little misleading - it actually refers to your notebooks main lithium ion battery and not the rtc ( cmos ) cell on the system board as it seems to suggest.  It generally starts to appear when the LiOH battery charge capacity has fallen below 25% of its original value.  Further details on this can be found on the following HP Document. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01443470 The battery will be covered under the same term as your notebook, so just contact HP and arrange to have it replaced  - if needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. Regards, DP-K

Okay, so I've been having a few programs with my computer...this including slowness, poor wifi connections, and odd performance of wacom tablets.

The problems with a tablet are described in more detail here--> http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/1...ml#post1658350

Recently, before I signed into windows, a message on a black screen popped up stating something about my internal battery needing to be replaced. I'm on an HP pavilion laptop // HP pavilion entertainment PC.

Could the problems I mentioned above be related to the battery? I desperately need to be able to use my tablets for my major in college, and are majorly concerned with how they've been acting poorly with my laptop...could just replacing the battery work?

Also, would the 'internal battery' still be the battery that is capable of being removed from the laptop? Or does a laptop of two batteries?

A:"Internal battery" notices..what problems could a low battery cause?

This is the CMOS battery it is talking about. It should be replaced asap. But this is not a do it yourself job in a laptop. Better have some expert deal with it.

My first post. Charge on battery went to 0.  Icon indicates "not charging" even when adapter is plugged in.   PC runs on power adapter.Ran HP EUFI diagnostic on battery.  Failed.  Said battery not installed (it is!) PC slow to boot up, even when plugged in. System check indicates BIOS is uptodate. Is it a hardware or software issue?  Thank you for your help.

I turned on my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop about 2 hours ago. I left the room for 20-30 minutes and came back. The screen was blue and gave me the warning begin physical memory dump. atapi.sys had a problem. i have the address, where the base is at, and the date stamp. Now, when this message had appeared, the battery light on my laptop was blinking. orange 3 times then green. this continued as long as the battery was in. i restarted my laptop with the battery out and currently it is plugged into an outlit and working fine. i did the battery test that was built right on the battery. the test came up three blinking lights. here what it looked like

0 - 0 - 0

the 0's are the lights on and the -'s are the lights off. im not sure what that means exactly. i have googled for a while now and cnt figure it out.

what happened.. can anyone tell me????

i forgot to tell you that... according to battery's LEDs.... my battery is healthy enough.. but now only 1 led is working...

Your battery has failed and must be replaced. They're only good for three or four years. Happens to all laptops.

Hello,  I recently bought a replacement battery for my T530, upgrading from the 6-cell to the 9-cell version. While I did not buy it from Lenovo, I bought it on ebay, the seller had very high ratings, and as far as I could tell it is genuine. It worked wonderfully for a few weeks, however yesterday upon boot-up I received the "Battery is not supported by this system and will not charge" error.  I don't understand how it could possibly be a counterfeit battery if it's worked fine up until now. I would really appreciate any ideas! Thanks!

A:70++ Battery for T530 suddenly generates "Battery not supported" error

This just started on my T530 running Wins 10 64b as well, and my system is installed in a Docking Station.  I've been using this battery since 2013 and it is charged 90+%.  I also get the message when removed from the dock.  I then changed the battery to another one used since 2014, same result both in and out of dock.  Both batteries bought from Lenovo.  Don't mind having to hit ESC to boot, but concerned that it won't charge after being discharged when being used w/o dock or adapter.  Please help!

Hi, my original Lenovo, Japan cell, 9-cell battery shows these data in linux upower utility:- 86% of designed capacity- 63% chargedIt was holding my computer 2-3 hours normally. Computer is bazar refurbished, probably new piece, never used, stored in a warehouse in a big company. Now X200 battery led started to blink orange, and batterry gives no power, voltage measured 0.02V. I tried also charging via X200 dock only, nothing happens. So I suspect this is internal battery electronics causing this. I have three 65W chargers, 2 docks. I found a video of some guy overriding internal electronics by short voltage pulse to the output terminal, but I don't want to dissasemble the battery. Questions:1. How can a utility in linux tell charge data, when battery is measured ~0V? Is there any background communication and data is taken from some system bus?2. Is there any power cycle limiting, how to get these data?3. Battery showed good health periodically during usage, even now @ 86% of designed capacity, this seems like early cutoff?4. What exactly does that orange led mean, how to get additional data?5. Why should a battery with good health, not over discharged, stop working? Thanks to everybody.

Hey I have an old Inspiron B130. Seems the battery is bad, or maybe it's just not charging, or maybe it's just not working in some other way? My question is how can I test?
I don't want to just rush out and buy a new battery without knowing if the laptop battery subsystem is working. The laptop came from a person who "claims" that the battery is actually a new one. I can't verify, so I want to see if I can test the laptop itself.
I wonder if there are wiring diagrams or something where I can just test a few of the pins. Or I wonder if the pins are testable at all without a battery plugged in?

How can I make sure the battery subsystem works before I buy a new battery?

A:Test battery and test output from laptop?

If you can't find any diagrams, just get a multitester, and with power off and pc unplugged, take out the battery and find pos / neg terminals on the computer against the chassis (unless they are labelled on the battery by chance?). Once you know which terminal is which, put the battery in the computer, let it charge (does the charge light come on? I should have asked that before). for a couple hours, unplug it and check the power. You may not see the full 11 volts (at least that's what I think the battery is on that model), but if it's charging, you should always have at least some residual power...

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Hi askfault,
Do you have any information on how this fixes the battery problem? would be interested to know.

My daughters notebook battery appeared to fail: removing the power cable resulted in immediate power off (all lights off). (Power worked fined withe adapter plugged in)On powering up with the adapter, on the initial windows screen the icon representing the power cable has a picture of a fully charged battery next to it, and in 'Support Assistance HP Battery check Specification: Primary battery charge is '100% available', but it then says 'HP Battery Check was unable to access the battery So, I replaced the battery (a not entirely trivial undertaking). Exactly the same problem recurred.  So, it doesnt work unless plugged in to power. It seems a bit unlikely that the second battery was also a dud, particularly as  the icons seem to indicate battery is fully charged. On UEFI diagnosticBattery component test, it saysBattery Check: Primary - Replace (40), Failure ID PGAMVT-7KV701-MFPWL1-C08103Product ID: L0M39EA#ABUComponent test: FAILED.ON details it says, amongst other things:Charge Capacity 2%....Battery age 489 days (which the second battery certainly isnt, though the original battery would be a bit older than this)Cell voltage 1: 0mV; Cell voltage 2: 1953mV; Cell voltage 3: 4379mV; Cell voltage 4: 0mV.  Status 42D0
