Need Help on Yoga 700 Fast Battery Drain and Battery Wear Level

Q: Need Help on Yoga 700 Fast Battery Drain and Battery Wear Level

I am a Yoga 700-14ISK user for 2 years. And I had encounter serveral issues with this laptop before (and the service center helped me to fix them) However, now there is an issue I just have now - my battery is draining fast like 1% lost per 2-3 min for light usage (browsing on Chrome or doing my schoolwork either on Microsoft Office or Google Drive) I suspected it was due to my battery wear level. However, as I monitored it, I realised it keep fluctuating (from 19.64% to 42.02%) until I re-calibrate which gives me 38.51% and then 38.71% after a charge to 60%. Is it possible the battery wear level can cause the quick drain in battery? Is this battery wear level normal? I would also like to point out that I had the battery changed over a year ago and I normally used my laptop for schoolwork and gaming (occasionally now after realising the issue.) I am also going to have an internship (at least 6 months) from July so I am very worried that my laptop can't last long especially its battery. Hence, should I go to a Lenovo service center and request for a battery replacement? Please give me any possible reasons on why the laptop battery starts to drain fast and its battery wear level sharp increase, and also possible solutions for these issues. I would like to know more about it in order to sustain my laptop at least for a year.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm having problems with my 910 yoga. He's been carrying it for more than two days and it's only 44%. Unlike the other posts, where yoga is connected and does not carry my charges very slowly. Also when I remove the power cable the battery drains very fast.
1) I already updated the BIOS
2) I already unplugged and reinstalled the battery drives
I do not know what else to do.

Hello there !
This is my very first post in this forum. I've read some best tech support site, and you guys are on the list ! So I'm really looking forward for your help

So apparently the wear level of my laptop battery is just getting higher and higher. In 3-5 days, the wear level usually increasing for 0.x% and I really don't want this thing happen. I check this wear level by using Battery Care.

I have done some surf in internet about batteries and stuffs and here is my habit with my battery and my laptop :

Since I'm a gamer and I need the best performance of my laptop, I rarely unplug my charger from my laptop while playing game, but I often unplug it (if the battery is full) if I'm not playing any game.
Reason : From what I've searched in internet, they said that it is okay (won't do any wear) to plug the charger into our laptop anytime, includes keeping it charged while the battery charge is 95% - 100% is okay. The battery is built-in so I can't unplug it when it reaches full capacity.

Sometimes, I play some games on this laptop while sitting on the bed. I know it's bad for our laptop somehow due to easily getting high temperature and bad air circulation.
Reason : I don't know whether it will harm the battery or not.

Sometimes, while I'm doing some works, I fell asleep so my laptop turns off due to lack of charge from the battery. Maybe setting the battery threshold to make it sleep will help ?

Hello,

Thanks for visiting this thread and any advice you have.

The Laptop this is in regards to is a TOSHIBA A205-S7468 (not the C855 of my specs).

I'm finishing a few upgrades on this older, backup of mine (replaced screen, RAM upgrade, clean up) and the battery was in need of replacement. So, I purchased a new replacement on Ebay (I know, right) and it is working ok, but there has been a few red flags.

There was a brief episode with battery level and charge status, but I seemed to correct it by following some instructions on other threads here. It's now stable and 100%, HOWEVER, it reports it has 25% wear level and will only charge to 100% using 75% of it's capacity.

I've uninstalled (and then scanned for hardware changes) the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery Driver (this seemed to straighten out battery level/charge status flags). Checked and made small recommended changes to power saving option (critical level, etc...). Drained it completely and recharged fully (per instructions).

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or advice as to why a new battery would be limited to 75% capacity (and be 100% fully charged)??

Replacement batteries may be different quality. Not all batteries are equal. The "local" battery you purchased sounds like an inferior battery.

Hi guys, less than a month ago I received my Lenovo Yoga 14" (the latest version with the i5 7200u).Well, I have noticed that the battery wear levels are increasing at some crazy high pace. After one month of extremely light use (mostly AC plugged), the wear levels according to HW monitor and Battery Info is already at 22%, as the full charge capacity is already down to 41500 mWh from 53000 mWh.The battery life I would say it's still pretty good, but I am wondering if this is normal? I don't want to replace the battery after 6 months of use, so either this number is incorrect for whatever reason, or something is really off here. Many thanks for your support.

Hi, I have an Yoga 900 that worked fine (mostly). However, now I have an annoying issue regarding the battery.  Going from 100% to about 76% could take about 2 hours, but... from 76% to 6% takes a minute. It doesnt downscale normally, but rather jumps immediately down to 6% and then warns me about low battery...  With this issue, the computer is completely useless without the powercord...so, its a bit useless as a laptop yes. Would really appreciate any help here!! Running Win 10 with the latest updates.

There is no heavy usage of the laptop, no downloading etc.In my previous laptop (ideapad 510), this happened as well and eventually progressed into losing ~50% in 48 hours. They ended up repairing it twice and taking it back in the end and this cost a lot of time.  Does anybody have any solutions for this problem?Kind regards,Maarten

Hello my fellow ThinkPad friends, I know that there are already a couple of threads out there concerning high battery drain when the device is completely shut down, but none for the X380 Yoga yet. In some cases (E-Series ThinkPads), a BIOS-Update was released to solve the problem. I would kindly like to ask the Lenovo team to try and figure out whether the same can be accomplished for the X380 Yoga.  When my device is shut down, it usually drains 10-15% a day, which cannot be a regular thing. Of course, I have tried all the usual stuff: - Windows Quick Start is off - USB-power when off is off- Wake-On-LAN or USB-C is off- BIOS updated to R0SET29W 1.13 If you have any other ideas, feel free to post them. Otherwise, I would really appreciate for a BIOS update that might adress the issue. It is kind of annoying charging your device for the weekend knowing that by the next day, you will already have lost 1 to 2 hours of runtime. Best wishes,Manuel

I bought my Yoga 13 (type 20175) brand new in 2014.  It shipped with Windows 8, 128GB, 4GB, if I recall correctly.  I had a license for W8 Pro that I used and there was a free 8.1 upgrade that I completed not long after purchase. Upgrades over the last (almost) 3 years have been boosting it to 8GB of ram, installing a Samsung SSD 850 EVO (250GB), Windows 10 (Pro), and now a battery. Sometime in 2015, I started noticing that if I didn't use the laptop and left it off for 2 or 3 days, the battery would completely discharge to 0%.  I chalked it up to age, and could still get several hours of moderate use in a day, so it wasn't a priority.  Finally, I bit the bullet and bought a brand new battery and put it in last week. Nothing changed.  I still have the same problem. In retrospect, it may have coincided with the installation of Windows 10.  Below is a further description of the problem and things I have tried.   PROBLEM:When shutting down, the battery loses an average of 2.5% per HOUR. (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 75%)This is consistent whether I use the Windows Start menu, the power button, or a command prompt (shutdown /s /f /t 0) to turn it off.  By the way, putting it in hibernate burns at the same rate. When putting the laptop to sleep, the battery loses only about 0.75% per HOUR (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 92%).  This occurs regardless of how I put it to sleep... Hi amote,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Battery draiining reports are also visible on other OEM forums as well and most likely related to similar features offered by Windows 10. Such also applies to different model of different macnufacturers as well.

Disabling fast start as discussed here would be a good step to try first.

Our forums are peer to peer community discussion group but Tech support (although maybe limited to their own scope of support) also utilizes the discussions we have for investigation of issues.

I've an Inspiron 15 7560, it's just just 3 months old. The design capacity of the battery in this thing is 41,998 mWh but windows batteryreport and hwmonitor are showing a full charge capacity of 39,079 mWh. That's 7% less. But the strange thing is that batteryreport as well as hwmonitor show a charge level of 107% when the laptop is full charged. And that's not on one occasion, every full charge is shown as 107%.. The thing that's even more strange is that according to battery capacity history of powercfg batteryreport that drop in capacity happened just around the time I changed the battery charge setting from "Adaptive" to "Primarily AC Use" in Dell Power Manager Lite. What's happening here?

A:7% battery wear on new laptop but battery charges up to 107% according to batteryreport

The lowering of the threshold is what is intended.
This link will give you more information on the charge options.

For your specific case
"Primarily AC — Extends battery life by lowering the charge threshold, so that the battery never charges to 100 percent capacity. Recommended for users who primarily operate the system while plugged into an external power source."

Hi,I recently purchased Thinkpad X1 yoga (1 Gen) machine with 16Gb Ram, 512GB SSD & WQHD IPS (Not even OLED) display with windows 10 pro 64 bit OS.My laptop battery is draining fast and only last for 4 to 5 hours with normal browsing & usage with 60-75% brightness (even reducing it to 50% doesn't give much improvement) and in Power save mode. As per Lenovo it should last for 9 to 11 hours but in reality it is no where near to it. I had also looked at similar issues that has been raised in this forum by other users as well. But I strongly feel that a top brand like Lenovo/Thinkpad doesn't cheat customers by giving false promises for the battery life of  9 to 11 hours without their internal testing, also I feel they would have not be claiming this (9 to 11 hrs) battery life by keeping their screen brightness to dark i.e. less than 50% or 25%. So i thought i could dig deeper to find out the problem. After my initial analysis using powercfg.exe command tool for sleepstudy, the report (i.e. https://ibb.co/hzob7F) shows me some a Ghost application called "Unknown [None]" which comsumes more power and I guess this is the culprit that cases the battery to drain faster. Looks like this Ghost appid takes around 60% of the power compared with all the other appid.  But not sure how to identify this Ghost appid. I have also posted my query in Microsoft forum but yet to get an reply.https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-othe... I have an XPS 9550 6th Gen running Windows 10 (Just over 1 year, out of warranty).
The issue is when the charge plug is plugged in and hovering over the battery icon it says that battery is charging.  However the battery is not charging but discharging until the laptop switches off.  The only way for the battery to charge again is to deplete the battery until the laptop is unresponsive when the power button is pushed to switch lap top on.  Once there is no residual power in the battery it will start charging again to 100% after which the cycle repeats, discharge.
Things I have tried.
Latest Bios update - no change
Another A/C charger - worked ok for a few days
Replaced battery - no change
Bios settings - reset to default (info related to battery and A/C charge reports all good)
F12 - Dell diagnostics, reports all good
When Battery is disconnected the laptop works normally
The laptop charge socket seems tight and secure
I have searched the internet exhaustively but have not found this same issue reported.  The only feasible way I can use the laptop is to disconnect the battery.
Can anyone suggest anything?
I would also like to disable the battery instead of having to open it up to disconnect, is this possible?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

I have an Acer laptop I bought last January 2013.

It's a 10 month laptop and someone told me that I should be removing the battery when I am using AC power. I was hesitant at first so I installed a software called BatteryBar Pro. Upon installing, I was surprised that my battery wear was already at 10.3%!
I was surprised that I had already wore 10.3% of my battery in just 10 months. Now I am worried that it will not last longer as expected.

I use my laptop for coding, gaming and browsing (mostly on gaming) and I always run on AC power while the battery is plugged in.

I tried some suggestions like removing the battery while on AC but when I did, my laptop did not power up. It does not open if the battery is out and AC is plugged in. I always put my laptop on an elevated stand I constructed when using it but is this enough?

Are there any other ways to minimize my battery wear? Thank you!

A:Minimize Battery Wear?

If your laptop allows you to, some laptops have an option to confine the battery to between 20% and 85% or something. That'll reduce wear if you can enable that. It'll also help if you manually do that as well.

Li-Ion/LiPo "wear" is well documented and the causes are well known for consumer chemistries.
Storing at high temperatures will increase degradation.
Storing at 4.2v/cell (fully charged) will increase degradation.
Keeping it below ~3.0v/cell (discharged) will degrade it.

So, in general, spend as little time as possible depleted or fully charged. If you fully charge it before leaving for the day, then start using it within a few hours, the wear is very minimal so you shouldn't worry about fully charging it if you're planning on using it soon, just don't store it for long periods fully charged.
Likewise if you leave it fully depleted for a long while, that will also accelerate wear.

If you need to store it, 40% charge (3.85v/cell) is commonly recommended but there is very little difference between storing it between 20% and 80% charge. Again the only times that storage can heavily degrade the battery is if it's fully charged (4.2v) or fully discharged (<3.3v resting)

So HWMonitor has shown over the last 3 years the decline of my battery, from  wear level of 12% at new to currently 45%. I wondered if using Acer's manual recommendation of conditioning the battery (which I did when I first got it) by running it down to the point the battery low warning appears, then plugging in the AC until it fully charges, rinse and repeat until this process has been completed 3 times. First time today I did the discharge and plugged the AC back in at 6%. It not only didn't take very long watching Netflix on chrome to get from 100 to 6% (about an hour and 20 minutes) it also charged up (even while still watching the movie) back to 100% before the movie finished. This time I turn off the AC again and decide to see what happens if I go a little lower. Watching the capacity deplete on HWMonitor it was losing about 15mWh every few seconds and I planned at 3% to flip the switch so the AC fired up again. It got stuck at 5% showing 1474mWh remaining, half an hour after I had started another movie (I didn't start the movie when I started the depletion, just started half an hour before it reached 1474mWh had been browsing prior). I am now 1 hour and 20 minutes into the movie and the current capacity is still showing 1474mWh and 5%! That's  nearly a whole hour of extra time with no apparent change in capacity. How do I fix it so that the percentage is reported correctly (and the wear level)? Hi,I don't think you will be able to do something. It has something to to with the chip which analyses the charge level and stops the charging and reports back the levels (it's on the battery). I have exactly the same issue with an Aspire 5742Z with a wear level of 54% and the ability to use the notebook for almost one more hour after the battery reports 1% remaining. I tried the calibration, and many other suggestions from the internet. Either the chip has failed, or the chips from the battery have the "planned obsolescence" which in this case would mean that they will steadily report that the battery is degrading even if it's not the case.  While you can use the notebook with this situation, it's still very annoying because you don't get any warning before the battery is completely depleted and thus if you are working on something you never knw when your notebook will shut down and you will lose your work/data. Well, they want you to spend some money on a replacement, othervise woudn't be funny eh?

There is no point having the machine set to w... Read more

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

I can charge to 100% and it works fine until around 20% when it suddenly shuts off with no warning. I concect the charger, and turn it on - the battery gauge always states 0%.  why did this start happening - is ther something I can do, or do I need to get it to a lenovo center? thanks,Nir

I just made an account to post about my issue. I have a Lenovo B50-80LT that was purchased only on Feburary 2016. I recently installed a battery monitoring app called BatteryBar because I noticed my battery life was short (only about 2h 30m on full charge). It shows that I have 32.6% of wear on my battery. I don't game and only browse the web on this device.

So if anyone knows please tell me if I can regain my battery's full capacity or will I have to get a new one? If I have to get a new battery, would it be possible to get it for free because I'm still in warranty.
Thanks in advance to everyone.

Just happened to take a look at the battery stats of my May-bought Carbon X1 v4 (20FB) - so 5 months old or so - to find battery wear is 14%: Battery Name 00HW028Manufacture Name LGCPower State Charging, AC PowerCurrent Capacity (in %) 91.6%Current Capacity Value 41,160 mWhFull Charged Capacity 44,940 mWh             <- down to ~45WhDesigned Capacity 52,260 mWhBattery Wear Level 86.0%Voltage 17,196 millivoltsCharge/Discharge Rate 18021 milliwattsChemistry LiP Is is the kind of stats I see on the almost 3-year old X1 v2! Does Lenovo still consider 20% wear within a year "defective" battery? What kinds of wear do people see on their X1 v4? PS. Using original 45W chargers as supplied with laptop, not higher power ones. Thanks!

Hey folks,

After a month of owning Click 10, my primary battery (the one in tablet) shows 12,5% (it went up from 1% to 2% to 4,6% and so on...) battery wear, and secondary (the one in keyboard) shows 1% battery wear... Is there anything to do in order to re-calibrate the batteries and gain run time back? The BIOS is updated to version 1.7.

I've tried both charging it after it hibernates on low power and charging it as soon as it gets to 10-15% power, but no luck.

I am using Battery Bar to monitor battery usage and it is showing 10% & 11% wear on both batteries after 3 weeks use. Anybody else noticed high battery wear? Could be a software issue as the wear amounts go up and down.

A:Satellite Click Mini L9W-B battery wear

Bump, can anybody else check their battery wear info? Battery Bar and Windows reporting same amount. Have seen another post stating similar amounts, wondering if this is normal? Thankyou.
