Hyper-V Discrete Device Assignment support for Precision 7xxx laptop?

Q: Hyper-V Discrete Device Assignment support for Precision 7xxx laptop?

I recently received my precision 7720 laptop, and everything work like a charm except the DDA support for Hyper-V is not available.
Hyper-v Discrete Device Assignment support, which is to say exposing ACS(Access control service) control from BIOS to OS so that users can assign PCI-E device to Hyper-V Virtual Machines, assign GPU to VM for CUDA computation, in my case.
Does dell have plan to support Hyper-V DDA for precision 7xxx laptop? Any information would be helpful.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This technology requires Windows Server (it's not supported in Windows 10), and since Dell doesn't support Server 2016 on this platform, the answer is no.

They do not support SLAT(Second Level Address Translation) which is a requirement for Hyper-V to work:
Current Hyper-V Requirements:

Could I please have some advice on what processors would be a natural upgrade for me, which support SLAT?

Thanks

I have a dell m6700 laptop with AMD M6000 graphics. Battery seems to be dead. Running on Direct AC power.
Couple of days ago, the laptop booted on Intel HD 4000, windows device manager saying GPU is disconnected - visible under hidden devices.

On running boot time Dell Diagnostics, it clearly said that the battery is not able to supply power to the GPU.
I removed the battery and still the laptop boots on Intel HD 4000. GPU missing. There have been couple of times when the bios did detect the GPU. Totally random.
Now the bios is only booting on Intel HD even on direct AC Power (battery removed). HDMI port does not work either, VGA is working. Weird.
Tested on two original dell AC adapters.
Any idea why the GPU won't start when on direct AC power?

I have 3 hard drives and one cdrom. They do not seem to be in an order of IDE1 master slave IDE2 master slave. it actually comes up IDE1 master partition 1 IDE1 slave IDE1 master second partition. I would have thought they went in a more routine order. What gives. I have not another HDD and a card which ends up myself having 4 ribbons IDE1, IDE2, IDE1(pci card), IDE3 (pci card). Just for simplicity I set them all to master/ or single. What determins their letter assignment? They definatly aren't being assigned in a manner that makes any sense to me.

in the AMD cpu's, they all (well not all but you know what i mean) seem to have the Hyper-Transport Support and its usually double of what your bus speed is
just in MT/s instead of MHz

.....actually, can somebody just explain this to me before they tell me how to take advantage of it.

A:How to use Hyper-Transport Support?

Uhm.. It is used for communication between different chips and cores and is not something you can turn off and on - your motherboard and the chips involved are purpose-built for HT.

From what I know, AMD Athlon 64/Athlon 64 FX processors have a standard 1000Mhz FSB. When purchasing a motherboard to accomodate this (64-bit, Hyper-Transport) processor, you must find a matching 1000MHz FSB. With Hyper-Transport support, that will double the motherboard's FSB to 2000MHz, correct?
1.) Is 2000MHz the maximum frequency an FSB can support? (after the hyper-transport has been implemented)
2.) Are all Athlon 64 and above series standard 1000MHz FSB? (before hyper-transport implementation)
3.) To my knowledge, there are no AMD processors with standard 2000MHz FSB, correct?
~(I ask this because I was scanning through TigerDirect.com and their Athlon
64/ Athlon 64 FX processors were said to have 2000MHz FSB, or is that after the Hyper-Transport has been implemented?

*Thanks in advance

So, I'm writing this for a friend of mine. He's using an Acer E15 E-571G-73ST that happened to be BSOD'ing frequently in the past few weeks. One thing that we noticed is that whenever the dGPU is being used (840M), the laptop just BSODs, either idling or doing something heavy. So he decided to uninstall the dGPU drivers and used the Intel HD Graphics, then we found out that there's no more BSOD's occuring. We have used different drivers (like from 355.xx~360.xx) and the laptop still BSODs.

He has sent it back to Acer and they said that there's a fan issue so they replaced it. When he got it back, he tested it using the dGPU. On the first game he played, it BSOD'ed. Though after that it's all fine, but a few days later, the BSODs returned so he decided to uninstall the dGPU drivers again and just like last time, it's working fine. I'm currently thinking that the dGPU might be damaged since according to Acer, there's a fan issue.
Specs:
Acer E15 E-571G-73ST
Windows 7 Professional x64
Intel Core i7-4510U
Nvidia GeForce 840M
8GB DDR3 RAM

I only got the .dmp file from him for the mean time. I'll try to get the DM Log tomorrow.

When I tried to update the drivers to my discrete Radeon HD 6370M through the latest driver pack exe for it off the AMD site, the installer displayed an error message in the end. An AMD representative told me that this was because my integrated 'AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250' did not support the latest drivers for the 6370M, and that the only way to properly update the drivers for the discrete GPU in such a case would be to disable the integrated one altogether, through the BIOS, but he said there are many laptop models on which this is impossible. What about mine? Or is there perhaps a different way out? Thanks in advance.

Hi!
Our corporation are running several lines of computers from Dell where as the Precision 7710 (soon to be 7720) is currently the "top of the line" laptop computer available for our employees.
Some of us are finding the Quadro cards installed limiting for certain tasks and I am currently researching the possibilities connecting an external egpu unit to the P7710 through the Thunderbolt 3 port.
The setup I have is, as mentioned, a P7710 connected to an Asus Rog XG Station 2 holding an Asus Strix Geforce GTX 1080 TI inside. It's not working. I spent the entire day reading forums and reddits, flashing bios and updating all drivers possible. I've also been tweaking and adjusting settings inside the BIOS ot get it working.
As far as I can tell the Thunderbolt firmware currently available to the P7710 is not supporting external GPUs. PD Firmware version is currently 16.00. Thunderbolt do recognize the external unit by name though.
Any help getting it working or notification on implementation progress is really appreciated!
Thank you.
Best regards.

In my old laptop - Lenovo Thinkpad W520, I can disable the discrete graphics card Quadro 1000M in the BIOS and leave work only integrated Intel HD3000 graphics card. This allows for greater battery life W520 laptop when running on battery.I was surprised to find that on the Lenovo Thinkpad P50 laptop in the BIOS, you can either leave it on only a discrete graphics card, or turn on the Hybrid, in which the operating system and Nvidia drivers themselves "decide" how to use the graphics card, which does not optimal! What made everything so stupid?P.S. I know that you can disable the Quadro in most Windows, but it's not what you need.

I decided to upgrade my Dell Precision 7710 (service tag: <Service tag removed>) from non-ECC memory to ECC memory. The laptop was originally configured with 8Gb of non-ECC RAM (2x4GB 2133MHz Hynix p/n HMA451S6AFR8N-TF). After replacing the original memory with ECC(2x16GB 2400MHz Crucial CT16G4TFD824A.18FA1 p/n 18ASF2G72HZ-2G3A1 ) the laptop does not boot. Status LED blinks 2 times amber and 5 times white. The cycle repeats few times and the computer powers off.
I'm using only primary memory banks (both of them are working fine with original sticks) and the newest available BIOS – 1.9.5 .
I've tested several configurations and the only one that works is mixing an old 2133MHz non-ECC stick with a new 2400Mhz ECC stick. This suggests that BIOS is not able to handle scenario when only 2400MHz memory is installed.
Are there any chances that this will be fixed by BIOS update?
The same issue has been reported for Dell Precision 7510 (with valuable technical data) -> http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/precision-7510-weird-problems-with-crucial-16gb-ram-ecc-stick-only-boots-if-you-mix-the-ram.801052/

I have a T7400 workstation with the onboard LSI 1068E RAID controller.  Last month I had four 1TB drives configured as a pair of 2TB RAID 0 volumes, but I ran out of space.  Before doing my homework I ordered and installed four 5TB drives and tried to configure them as a pair of 10TB RAID 0 volumes.  I was dismayed to learn of the 2TB size limit supported by the LSI controller, but I needed a functioning workstation, so I went ahead and created the 4TB volumes and migrated my existing files to the new 4TB volumes -- for now.
I'd really like to take advantage of the full 20TB of space I purchased, so here is my first question:  is the 2TB size limit a function of the LSI controller in specific, or is it a limit of the T7400 motherboard chipset in general?  In other words, can I get around the current problem with an internal RAID controller installed into one of the PCI Express 2.0x16 slots?  Would that give me access to the full 20TB of space and do it at a speed equal to -- or at least close to -- the speed of the onboard LSI controller?  (I do have a video card in one of the two slots and an external 3-port USB 3.0 controller card in the other, but I think I could move the USB card to the PCI Express x8 slot with little or no real-world speed loss.)
If so, does anyone have a recommendation as to which models and/or makes of RAID cards I should research for use in that PCI Express 2.0 slot? I'm a professional photogr... Read more

Hey all.
I did a search, but I didn't come up with the answer I'm looking for so I'm not sure if it's been discussed here or not yet

I'm running an AMD 64x2 3800 and a evga 7800gt. I'm ready to up my graphic's a notch so I'm looking at video cards, most likely to go SLI. It seems to me that I remember reading in some rag that with nvidia's new drivers you could mix and match video cards, i.e. 7800gt with a 7900gt. However, after contacting nvidia about this, here is the response I got...

Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care.
NVIDIA does not support SLI on two different models or from different vendors. SLI supports configurations with the same model (i.e. 7800 Ultra) from the same vendor (Vendor XYZ). So that means you cannot use GeForce 7900 GT card with GeForce 7800 GT on SLI mode.

NVIDIA Customer Care.Click to expand...

I'm really taking exception to this. I'm sure I read where you CAN do this. I've heard extremes such going SLI with the add-in card and onboard video (sans the jumper) and still making frame rates, not that I'd ever do this nor do I have mobo with on-board vid, I'm just talkin.

So my questions are; Can I mix and match? I'd like to buy a 7900GT board to go with the 7800GT that I already have. Should I just buy a 7900GT and sell my 7800GT? Or, maybe I should ditch the whole video card idea all together and pick up a new Intel Duo and Mobo with hopes of gaining... Read more

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for checking the query, this is with regards to a setup for ATA 1.8, where most of the DCs are Virtual and around 20 Hyper-V hosts each having 1-2 DCs and other VMs for other functions, under normal conditions either you could go with approach
1 or 2 as below
1. Install  ATA lightweight Gateway on each DC - No approved.
2. Install ATA Gateway on Each Hyper-V host to receive Mirrored traffic from DCs on that Hyper-V host -
No feasible
But we need to check the possibility of approach 3, based on the article below

3. DCs on Different Hyper-V hosts to mirror traffic to ATA Gateway(s) on Different Hyper-v Host(s)

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/advanced-threat-analytics/configure-port-mirroring#supported-port-mirroring-options

ATA Gateway
Domain Controller
                           Considerations

Virtual
               Virtual on different hosts

Make sure your virtual switch supports this scenario.

So the bottom line is Does Hyper-V allow or can it be configure to sent the Mirrored Traffic from a VM to a VM on another Host, the configuration could involve power shell.
As per the below article it can capture traffic from Physical machine if port mirroring is configured to the Hyper-V host.

The Hyper-V Manager was configured OK but when I tried to start a VM I created (in this case Windows Server 2016 TP4 since I want to explore the new nested Hyper-V feature) I got the message that the Hyperrvisor was not running. Indeed when I created the services admin tool the HV was not running although it was set to staRt automatic. I could not start it - failed immediately. Most annoying I could not remove the Hyper-V feature. Windows started the removal process after rebooting but then rolled the changes back because it could not apply them. I restored Windows 10 from a recent image I created using AOEMI Backupper. The restore worked flawlessly and instead of trying to remove Hyper-V I've disabled all its processes. Now I can install VMware Workstation and Virtualbox but I really wanted to try Hyper-V

Has anybody got Hyper-V working on Windows 10?- what version if so. Is there a workaround for the Insider Preview or if not how I can I file a bug?

TIA
V

Looking through MSINFO32 I see the line: Device Encryption Support Reasons for failed automatic device encryption: Un-allowed DMA capable bus/device(s) detected What does it mean? My laptop C:\ drive is encrypted the whole thing. Does this mean I have a problem? I have these lines too: Secure Boot State On PCR7 Configuration Bound

Hello
I just swapped out a e5-2603 CPU and installed a e5-1620 CPU in a Precision T5600.  The PC will not boot, and prior to a forced entering to bios setup, it gives a warning/error
"Your dell current power supply does not support the recent configuration changes made .."
My PSU is a 635W - this should be sufficient, yes??
So is the 1620 not compatible with this model?
thanks for any help, david

Win 8.1
The symptom is 2 adapters in Device Manager that I can't remove:

From time to time, this problem interferes with the Ethernet card on the PC, and I lose all connectivity for the host OS.  So I really need to fix this.  I've currently recovered connectivity by deleting my VM and the virtual switch in Hyper-V
manager, but I'd like to resolve this problem properly by eliminating these 'unattached' adapters.
I've read many posts and still am not convinced I know which steps to take.  Many of the posts seem a little dated, so I'm concerned I'll create additional problems if I follow old stuff.  Here are a few of the solutions I've seen on the boards:
1) edit the registry, up to 50 times.  This doesn't sound like a great idea but if that's what it takes...

2) remove the adapter in something called the Administrative Website.  I don't really know what that is.  Is that a current piece of software for use with Hyper-V on Win 8+?  I have been using the Hyper-V manager.  Is that not good
enough?  If Administrative Website is relevant, where do I find a copy for Win 8.1?

I have purchased Dell products for the last 25 years and – until this experience – was a big fan of both Dell products and Dell IT support.
In October of 2016, I purchased a Precision 7710 with the Advance E-Port Plus docking station. I already had two HD Ultrasharp Dell Monitors. Despite misgivings about Windows 10 I ordered the computer with the Windows 10 OS.
The computer had display issues, so that my HD monitors looked fuzzy and pixelated. (This was not related to any particular app, as even the desktop icons looked bad.)
After several calls to Pro Support, I was told to return the computer for a refund and purchase the same computer again, which I did. (I was hesitant, because the computer is very expensive, and I had already experienced a high level of confusing around the order - for example, I never received an invoice, and the computer arrived with no paperwork - no invoice, packing slip - nothing. As a small business owner, that we very worrisome.)
Right after receiving the new computer, I had major surgery, and did not use the docking station for several weeks, because I could not sit at a desk. (This was my one major mistake, because it meant that I missed the deadline for a straight return.) When I finally did attempt to use my external monitors, the computer had the same problem. There were other, seemingly associated problems, such as the fact that the NVIDIA control panel and the Intel control panel could not detect more than one monitor. There we... Read more

We use an old program to teach students to type Its called "The Typing of the Dead".
When we start the program we get the following error message "not support graphic device".
This did work last year and the PC next to it which is working correctly is vitually the same device.
Ive tried adjusting the resolution and updating the drivers and compatibility mode?
Any other ideas?

A:Not support graphic device

Uninstall/reinstall.

The drivers are part of the install package for any program requiring such...as opposed to hardware components.  Hardware components and many programs (e.g., firewll, AV, video editors, etc.) all employ drivers.
