BSOD - Lenovo Thinkpad T430 - 2349-PHG - random shutdown.

Q: BSOD - Lenovo Thinkpad T430 - 2349-PHG - random shutdown.

Dear all,
I'm looking for some help to understand the possible causes of the BSOD that I've met randomly while using my new Lenovo Thinkpad T430 - 2349-PHG.
The BSOD is not the only problem I'm having. While using the Laptop, sometimes the screen starts to shake, then the laptop shuts down without showing the BSOD. Sometimes, the BSOD appears. Each time I've to restore the Loptop to a previous point in order to make it work.
I've tried to run memory test using memtest86+-5.01, after 10 hours work and 9 runs, there was no errors.
I've tried to use driver?s verifier, however, when I set it up to work, the BSOD appears.
Attached is the recommended ZIP file to analyze the problem, only two dmp files are available.
I hope that I get some help regarding this matter soon.
Thank you in advance for your time and help.
Best regards

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

When I dock the computer and press the power button on the dock it doesn't recognize my monitor as the main screen. I have to hit a key (Windows 10) and put in my password hoping that it's doing that and then the screen comes up. If I reboot after that ... THEN.... it recognizes my screen as the main monitor. How do I fix this? The only time this happens is when I use it off the dock and then put it back on. If it stays on the dock all the time it does just fine. Any fixes for this? Thanks...

OK, Windows key on external keypad works OK.  Windows key plus shortcut keys (for example, Windows +T in Chrome for opening a new tab) does NOT work.  Normal alpha keys work AOK.   Device manager shows the 3rd party external keyboard as installed without issue.  The keyboard works on another computer (MacBook Pro 13") without issue.  Keyboard in question is a steelseries 6gv2. Interestingly, the issue is also occuring with the Lenovo thinkpad's very own keyboard (Windows + T not working!).   what gives?   O/S is Windows 7 - have just acquired the T430 2nd hand, so trying to test everything is AOK, etc.   I had an issue with sound not working via the lenovo's speakers too, but solved that (uninstalling realtek device drivers and letting Windows auto-install new drivers).   I hate Windows with a passion, but sadly, this laptop is designated to be used as my astro laptop for working in the field (PHD2, ascom drivers, mount control, acquisition software, etc).  There's pretty much nothing that runs native in OS X/MacOS sadly, so I'm being forced to run Windows crap.   I've owned several laptops in my life, and never had an issue with an external keyboard working out of the box, so this is very frustrating.  15 years in IT, experience in many different operating systems (mostly UNIX or GNU/Linux to be bluntly honest).   I haven't had a chance to RTFM yet for the T430, so I... Hi all, First of all I would like to take a moment and write my history with this experience. Last year I had a Dell Precision M4500 (i7-720QM and nVidia Quadro FX880M) which it had to be my eGPU machine. But using FL Studio alot, the cpu didn't kept the pace so I had to make a change. My research got to my Thinkpad T430 because Ivy Bridge platform can get you up to 90% of peak performance of your eGPU solution. When I had my Dell M4500, I have ordered the EXP GDC V8 Expresscard solution at a pretty fair and decent price (Christmas sales) from Banggood. Shipping to Romania was quite long, almost 2 months. In the meantime bought from a local guy, a Dell DA-2 220W power adapter which I heard it is plug'n'play. After arrival, I found out that I don't have the PCI-E power adapter for the graphic card, in my case a Gigabyte Radeon 6850 OC 1GB. That's the only card I have so, I was aware that I might need a display monitor. After another months of searching, found out on Banggood the holy PCI-E adapter specialy for EXP GDC solution. To be assured , bought 2 cables (just in case ) because the shipping was 1 month and 2 weeks (long, I know!). Well, last night I was dying to fire it up, so I put my Panasonic TV ( don't have a display monitor, lame, I know...) and put all cables and adapters together, the expresscard in T430 and fire it. My specs :i7-3610QM, 16GB HyperX Impact CL9, 1600x900, Intel HD4000 iGPU, Windows 7 64bit.After Windows loaded, my Radeon 6850 was found in D... Hi, Recently bought a T430 (Without Optimus). All's good except the Laptop Temp. The left Palm rest seems to get un usually warm, no matter what OS I am on. Its a dual boot by the way, Win 7 + Ubuntu 12.04.2. With Ubuntu or CentOS or Scientific Linux, the laptop gets unusually warm...The temp monitoring utility (lm_sensors) says that its at about 45 C. I get the same temp reading on Win 7 too, but somehow, the laptop just feels more warm with Linux than Win 7.As of right now, I am on Win 7 (for past 4-5) hours.....did some browsing, MS Sec Essentials did a full disk scan, I saw some youtube vids and was toying with some Perl Scripts, and the temp is at 45C, and the left palm rest is quite warm. Its warm enough that I have to stop typing every few minutes  Has anyone else noticed this issue? Is there a work around to this issue? Is there something I should worry about ? Please let me know. I installed the new updates a month ago. This problem though, has been there since a while. I searched the forum and found that another user who had a similar issue was told to upgrade the BIOS from 1.6 something to 2.50. A:Thinkpad T430 gets significantly warm on Win 7 as well as Linux. How about a fellow T430 user ?

In my experience, Linux isn't as good with power management as Windows. 45 degrees sounds about right for a current-gen Intel processor due to Turbo Boost causing temperature spikes as you use your system normally. As for the warm left palmrest, the hard drive sits under there, so maybe the drive just tends to produce more heat. Assuming you have a conventional hard drive, give it a defrag to reduce operating stress (and hence power consumption and heat output).

Hi guys, I bought this laptop as per description, I bought it refurbished since I wanted a cheap and light laptop to carry around. The laptop worked flawlessly for 8-9 month then suddenly it started to have problems. At the beginning it started to freeze when using it (screen freezes and that's it), I had to power it off with the power button and then restart it.After 2-3 months of this it started to refuse booting, sometimes it boot, sometimes it doesn't; all the LED are on (power and HD) but the screen is off, it doesn't even show the BIOS screen. The laptop boot about 30% of the times I try to start it, the other 70% nothing but the LED as described above, sometimes it freezes during use but again all of this is completely random, I have no idea why it happens. What I know is this:- I'm pretty sure it's not the LCD panel, I tried to connect an external monitor but it's the same erratic behavior all over again- I'm pretty sure it's not the HD since I tried with a new one, same story...- According to he LENOVO user manual it can be one of these two things (in order of probability): 1 RAM Failure - 2 Motherboard failure. Well, I hope it's the RAM of course (because it's 30 Euros and easy to change), if it's the MB I can pretty much kiss it goodbye because it would be cheaper to buy an other one than buying the MB.Now it has been working for two hours running Memtest86+ to test the RAM, I'm already at the second pass but it detected no errors: "Pass com... Hey this is my first post as I'm new here. I have been having an issue which has been going on for several months.

Every 30 minutes, to the second, my laptop completely shuts down (I have tried running in safe mode too). No matter what programs are running, or aren't, it continues to shut down.

I have made a work-around, where I put the computer to sleep roughly every 28 minutes, then I wake it. This seems to reset the 'timer'. Lately it seems my computer will not sleep properly, or it will not wake from sleep (power button starts slowly blinking, not pulsing, green to black), however I think this is a different unrelated issue.

Things I have tried but have NOT worked: Running without battery, re-seating RAM, new thermal paste (I thought the problem originally had to do with the system temperature as it was getting quite hot), I have made sure there are NO TIMERS for sleep, or shut down set for the graphics card (NVIDIA Quadro 2000M) or in Lenovo Power Manager. I have made sure my drivers are up to date and that my BIOS is also up to date.

One more noteworthy thing; I had problems with my WMI event registration/viewer as it caused my computer to crash at completely random (minutes to hours, even to days) times. I ran a script I found (from a reputable website and I did a backup first) to fix this error I found in my event viewer (it did fix it). The 30 minute shut-downs did not happen immediately after I ran the script, but rather about a week later, perhaps t... Read more

I have a Lenovo Z510 laptop which turns off randomly while plugged in. It started intially only while playing games but then happened even while watching videos and browsing. Each time the interval got shorter and in the last stage it turned off the moment I inserted the charger pin. This never happens when its on battery so it not a overheating issue. I tried changing the charging adapter but it did not go away so I figured charger is not the problem. Then as a final solution got my Motherboard replaced and it went away but only for a month. Now even with a new mother board it randomly turns off while watching a video. Im really perplexed as to what could be the reason of such shutdowns. I really need to figure it out so it can replaced under warranty.

Hi vinayk23 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

There was a BIOS update for power issue on this model .
I would not however advise you to do it on your own since it may need constant ac connection and we do not want shutdowns to happen during the BIOS update as it may brick the pc .

I would rather have you call in tech support for assistance and back up your important files first for safe keep.

Hi everybody! Like many users on these forums and other sites I purchased my Y50-70 laptop, installed windows 10 only to be happily using it when suddenly there woud be a 'pop' soundand the whole thing would shutdown instantly. Searching the forums many people suggested it could be the 'COM Server application' which appears in the event log of the system. People suggested altering the registrysettings to fix this -this reduced the problem but didn't solve it as there would still be random sudden crashes. Others suggested driver changes, reverting a windows update, chaning the power supply, etc - nothing really worked and it stil crashed. Now to the solution! Simply put - I changed the wifi card - why? I was thinking of changing the OS to see if Windows 10 was the problem. After changing the wifi card my laptop has not crashed once - not once! This has now been over four months and I have had a perfectly stable system, it's great! Also changing the card is really simple. Everything went good, no issues.  Computer still starting up slow and taking it's sweet time on processing tasks.  Random issues with WIFI connectivity. Telling me WIFI drive not connected, printer not connected....etc.  Just got new NETGEAR Nighthawk x4 smart wifi router model R7500 and the NetGear Genie....my wifi is not the problem. Strong signal in all rooms and even outside house, but computer randomly not connected. Then yesterday, random shut-downs when I am not near my computer?  I walked away for a few hours, had open QuickBooks, internet explorer search, OpenOffice and email.  When I came back everything was shut down and programs had errors, so something is forcing a shutdown.  Backup says drive is not connected and it backed up to the desktop.  Not sure where to begin trying to figure out what is making the computer shutdown. Right now I am planning the precaution of making sure I close items before walking away from computer.  I usually just put it to sleep and then come back and pick up where I left off. I make sure to shut down at least once a week for a back up on Fridays, which is when I scheduled it.  Thanks for your help

I'm running a lenovo T500 thinkpad, and it's relatively new - that is, I bought it last winter - but recently, I've been having what seems to be a hardware problem. Or, at least, that's what the guys over in the Virus and Malware removal section are telling me:

Because from time to time, my laptop has decided it's just going to go ahead and shut itself down. Completely. No lights, no nothing - pressing the power button doesn't do anything. I almost always have it plugged into a socket, and that light won't show either - I've found that taking the battery out of the laptop and letting it sit for a little before putting the battery back in usually gets the laptop to work again.

It's only happened recently, but it's happened twice in the past week - which is a little more than bothersome, since the antivirus I have runs a full scan when it happens.

I've noticed that my laptop gets a little hot - not too hot that I can't touch it - but as far as I know, I've never had a problem with overheating or anything similar, which leaves me in the dark about this entire thing.

I'm really hoping that this doesn't turn out to be a hardware problem; I should still be on warranty, but I'm a little - okay, that's a lie, I'm pretty damn - scared to try and open up my laptop and fiddle with anything.

Hope this is enough information for someone out there to give me some sort've idea of wha... Read more

Hello everyone. I have one problem with secound ssd. I read a lot about this but nothing is similar. My HDD is primary and I buy a SSD caddy on internet. He stands well. But my laptop dont recoqnize it. I try with 2 Acers laptop and works! I try with disk menagement to see, maybe to ''active'' it there, but there is only my primary HDD. SSD seems to be missing. He only work if I remove primary HDD, but they dont work together. I think it is the only solution, if I open a BIOS, maybe there is some setup to activate CADDY with SSD or I really dont know. I watch on yt, read a lot but they all active it in disk management.

Hi All,

I have a PC that is randomly turning off throughout the day, a quick BSOD flashes but I am unable to read the message, and the behavior started on 7/11/2011. The event logs read "System Error 102" but after searching on-line the error sounds vague and doesn't provide much information. No software or hardware has been installed recently, and here is what I have done so far:

1) Rebooted to Safe Mode, ran a full scan with MBAM and searched for Haxdoor virus files according to MS KB 903251 - no infections found.

2) Shut down PC and tested power supply, -5V failed, replaced OEM 300w with Antec Basiq 350w, cleared and saved event logs

The PC just crashed again the day after I installed the new power supply, so now I'm right back to square one. Any suggestions? Attached are three minidump files related to each crash, I added .txt on the end so I could add as attachment. I will add the PC specs and new event viewer log files as soon as I have access to it again.

Welcome
You have given quite a few dmp reports. I have spot checked and they seem to be consistent. It is your wireless adapter. Go to the Ralink website and update the driver.

Hey guys I have a pc that i build last year.
Windows 7 home premium SP1
15 2500k
gigabyte p67x-ud3-b3
nvidia gtx 570
8gb gskill memory

Basically this computer has been solid for almost a year now I built it in april. But about a week ago I changed the power settings from always on to sleep in 1 hr and hibernate in 2 hours. well since then I get a BSOD on shutdown about 1 out of 8 times maybe more. It seems to be that it is a nstoskrnl error. So I changed the settings back to defaults(high performance) and I still recieve the bsod. I have attached the needed documentation perhaps someone can help me get this issue resolved.

I would just like to add this this system is so stable with many hours of wow and various games thats why i cant figure out why out of all times it bsods on shutdown :(

Hi community! Yesterday, I accidentally spilled coffee (no sugar and only a little bit of milk) in my ThinkPad T430.it was plugged in the charger, and as soon as I spilled coffee the computer shut down (the coffee reached the bottom of the screen)I took off the battery and the keyboard, cleaned a bit and now the computer is drying.when I opened there was coffee around but apparently it didn't reach the mother board. I am almost sure it won't turn on again due to the fact it instantly shut down when the coffee touched the keyboard. However, I Hope you can give me more positive views on my computer's situation? Is there any chance to save it?  ThanksNymsai

Hey, I bought a used (from pro seller, "perfect" condition)  "Lenovo Thinkpad T430 i7-3520M 2,90GHz 8GB 320GB 1600x900 HD"I am *almost* happy with it, but now comes my admittedly peculiar problem. The air coming out from the fan is not exactly pleasant, i.e. I can't let the device run for 1 hour without getting a scratchy throat / hoarse voice from it.I.e. it releases irritants of some sort into the air.Now while I had this with some, but not nearly all, e.g. PC power supplies (new) and their blown-out air, I am also very sensitive to anything tobacco smoke related, so it *could* be possible that it's not the device per se but the previous owner was a smoker and they somehow managed to clean the outside of the device to not have smell (it doesn't), but the problem from the inside is still residues. (smokers' gear tends to have such problems)*if* that were the case - is there a way to clean whatever the air comes in contact with that comes out from that fan, or replace "some parts" or a whole unit / module of something?(I have no idea about the internal  layout, maybe the question is silly to anyone who knows it)It's only speculation, but depending on the cost of things I might experiment.Or I have to sell the thing again and need to get a new one from a shop where they demo running devices, where I can test whether the devices have that problem... *sigh*

A:Thinkpad T430 internal fan - "nasty air"

Welcome to the forum.

This smell may not be tobacco related.

It's possible that some plastic or rubber part or wire insulation, etc. has been burned inside, perhaps as the result of a failing component that overheated. The failed component was replaced but the smelly part was left unchanged. Here is a previous thread that describes such a situation: Burning Smell and Short Circuit on T430s.

Another possibility are the rubber rails that hold the HDD/SSD in place in the main drive bay. I recall when the T430 series was introduced that there were reports about strange smells from these rails. You might want to check this possibility.

Since this is a new (to you) system you may not want to open it and look/smell inside. But it's something to consider. Otherwise return it to the seller.

Hi, I recently found out that I couldn't completely shut down my ThinkPad T430 as whenever I clicked 'Shut down' from 'Power', the OS would go through normal shut down procedure, and the laptop seemed to be shut down, but the fingerprint reader still flashes with an interval of about 1 sec. If I finger scan it, the laptop will start booting as usual. I am wondering is it normal, and how to completely shut down the laptop. Since I need to install new memory sticks for expansion. ps. My laptop is installed with the battery at all time, and for the majority of the time I use the laptop with a power supply on. cheers

I bought a refurbished t430 a while ago and it hasn't given me any major issues. But recently I put it to sleep and tried to power it back on and the only thing it does is light the power button for less than a second. I've tried removing all power supply, I took out the ram and cmos battery, and tried pressing the power button 10 times and holding it for 30 seconds. Nothing seems to be working.
