I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a BFG 7950GT which runs quiet normally, except when I go into a game, the fan suddenly gets extremely loud. It didn't bother me at first but the more I have to listen to it, the more I want to get an aftermarket cooler. Does anyone have any recommendations? I want something that operates quietly, but preferably not passive.

And it has to be from www.tigerdirect.ca, or www.ncix.com since I'm in Canada and have no access to newegg.

I have a stock FX cooler with a 70mm fan and its pathetic.

The fan runs at 5000rpm and its like listening so a steam kettle.

I've looked at the options on ebay and amazon but most seem to be poor designs. Those with copper rods seem to be best but most of them have the rods aligned in the direction of the fan's air flow so to me only the rod nearest the fan gets any benefit.

If anyone has a Phenom 940 in their tower, would you let me know which cooler you're using please ?

Thanks.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 15R laptop six months ago and it heats up quickly on the left side of the laptop (above the fan). I've been having this problem since I got my laptop. I thought this was normal, but some of my friends told me it only happens with Dell laptops.

I don't do gaming at all. I'm sure, it's jsut cos of HDD. What should I do? Do I need to buy a laptop cooler? If so, suggest me a good laptop cooler.

Thanks,

A:My laptop heats up very quickly. Do I need a laptop cooler?

Make sure all the ports and place where air goes gets blown out on a regular basis with laptops. As for the laptop cooler I would see what Newegg offers and go by user ratings on what would be the best price and rating ratio.

Hi there, this is my first post so hoping its in the right place.

I recently bought a Dell XPS 1521x Laptop with decent specs so I could play some games smoothly, however it tends to get hot after 30 mins or so sometimes reaching temps of 85c+

I've been looking at laptop coolers to reduce the heat but was curious about the usefulness of one seeing as the base of my laptop is rubber rather than aluminium and the vents seem to be at the very back of the laptop rather than the base.

Would it be worth while to pick up a laptop cooler?

Thanks

Where is the air intake though ? If it's on the bottom and you're using it on a soft surface try it on a hard flat one instead.

Hi, anyone knows wether a 120 MM CPU Cooler will phyiscally fit in a M92p Tower case? The cooler is 158 mm high in total. I think the Thinkcentre case is 175 MM wide. But You also have to consider that there is a Motherboard and CPU inbetween. WIll that fit or do I have to go for a smaller 92MM Cooler? Anyone tried this before?

I have a Compaq Presario V2000 14" laptop and have been having a problem with it overheating recently. I'm looking for a laptop cooler that is relatively inexpensive and that will be comfortable to use on my lap. Any suggestions?

A:Laptop Cooler

Have you looked into the cause of the overheating?

The V2000 has a Pentium M, it should be relatively cool in normal use.

If the fan or duct is clogged with dust, cleaning that would be advisable (using a can of compressed air).

The V2000 is not known for overheating. What stresses are you putting the laptop under when it overheats?

No sure if I am in the correct forum for this question. What is the correct way to use a laptop cooler. My wife has a laptop and uses a laptop cooler which has four "nubs" (legs) in each corner. She has the laptop cooler on her desk with the "nubs" facing down and the fans blowing down toward the top of her desk. It seems to me the fans should be blowing upwards toward the bottom of the laptop in order to keep it cool. My though it the "nubs" are to keep the laptop from sliding off the cooler. Which one of us is right? Fans blowing upward toward the laptop or downward toward the desk?

I want to build my own laptop cooler and I have a few questions: I see that laptop cooling stands have 2 fans. Is they suppose to blow air into the laptop? And is there a specific placement for the fans or can I just level them with the grills underneath the laptop?

A:Laptop cooler

You could make something like this. (see attachment) It has 2 fans which would be located on the underside of the stand and have 4 rubber washers that you put the laptop on leaving about 4mm of space between the laptop and the stand. The fans would then blow cool air underneath the laptop all the time.

Hello there. I'm having an issue with a laptop cooler. I have a Aspire 5735Z (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Aspire-5735Z.14613.0.html) and recently bought a Thermaltake T1000 Notebook Cooler (http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1135&ID=1597). It just came today but the laptop is a bit bigger than I thought. It sits fine on the cooler it's just that the legs of the laptop are dangling over the side so the laptop itself is sitting on the cooler. Now I know it's not that big of a deal but I wanted to know if this could compromise air flow. If it's too much of a hassle I'll just return it and order a larger one. What should I do? Refer to the links since they have the specs and all. Thanks!

Hello all, new to this forum. I bought a Cooler Master chipset cooler for my Asus P4P800-E Deluxe. I was checking my GPU fan when I touched the cooler and it was hot, I mean HOOOTTT, like cant touch it for more than a second hot.

The fan is spinning the 5K revs it runs in but its super hot anyway. I gave my stock cooler away and this is what I have. The MB temperature is normal, 37c and cpu 32c fanless at idle. I dont know where that MB sensor is located but the chipset must be over 40c at least.

Whats the best chipset cooler out there. My MB has an Intel 845 chipset. (i need an upgrade!)

My Antec P180 (provides great ventilation with 4 120mm fans) case is sitting standing up like its meant to be and I was reading in another forum that some heatpipes dont like to be sideways, could this be the case?

A:Problem with Cooler Master chipset cooler RUNNING HOT!

chipsets have a higher heat tolerence than CPUs, 40c is a safe operating temp. also, temp sensors are not accurate, so you can't really go by the reading from it anyways. it's not unusual for software based sensor to be as much as 10c off the actual temp.

the cooler you bought should work fine. did you thoroughly clean the chipset and heatsink with isopropyl alcohol and then apply new thermal compound before mounting the cooler?

I upgraded my GPU recently and noticed that my CPU fan was making more noise than I remembered - sort of a droning noise.  I checked my CPU temps and discovered that, at idle, the CPU was hitting 38-42C.
I decided to upgrade my cooling.  The main limitation (besides the fact that Dell has a non-standard CPU backplate setup) is the somewhat narrow case on the XPS 8900 doesn't allow installation of most of the inexpensive high-performance coolers because they are too tall by 1/2" - 3/4".  Then I found the Cyrorig H7, which has three heat pipes, a huge heatsink, and 120mm fan all in a package that is "only" 145mm high - just short enough to fit in the case.  I installed it yesterday and it works GREAT.  Very happy with it, initially at least.
I also swapped out the stock Sunon case fan for a Cooler Master Blade Master 92mm fan, which is quieter but similar CFM specs.
Overall the computer is now quieter at 100% load than it was at idle before.  And my CPU temps have dropped by 15 degrees C.  Great upgrade.  I made a video on how I did it here:
...and here are a couple of pics:

I bought a Laptop Cooler Pad and it seems to work well. It's connected to the Laptop with by USB for power.

It also comes with a 4 USB Hub.

However, the computer does not recognise the USB inputs.

As there is no software, is there a way to get the Laptop to 'find' the new USB Hub.

Since two of my original built-in USB ports are not working, this new device would be a great help.

All advice welcome and appreciated.

A:Laptop Cooler with USB Ports

My only suggestion is a starting point. Beyond that, you'd probably still be waiting for other suggestions...

In the Device Manager, uninstall any and ALL USB devices, interfaces and anything relating to them. "Root Hub" and such. Then reboot, and see if it'll detect them at all.

If not, do it again with the unit plugged into a different port. Might simply be a matter of the port not supplying enough power.

Not to mention, the USB ports on it have never worked. Well today, it finally went completely. Which made me happy because I can replace it.

So I've been looking for a replacement and I think I can settle on this one.

if there are plently of vents underneath the laptop it would help. at 2000rpm they might be annoying since i have a h70 with stock x2 2000rpm fans inside a desktop case and can still hear them clearly.
just to make sure, you cant use usb 3 on usb 2, they are physically different, even if you have one usb 3 thats plenty for now, there are not many devices at all that can use/utilize usb 3.
if you have one vent sitting right over one of the fans then you might want to put a silverstone air penetrator over it, its low rpm but very effective by design

if your THAT worried about cooling then you can just take some back panels off the bottom

A quick question:

I have a Vaio laptop that runs PC5300 DDR2 RAM that I'm finally expanding from 2GB to 4GB. I'm thinking that if I get PC6400 800 Mhz RAM cards, given that the BIOS will downclock the new cards to 667 Mhz automatically, will they run at a lower temperature and under less stress?

(The cost difference between PC5300 667 Mhz cards and PC6400 800 Mhz cards is something like one dollar, so there's no cost obstacle for getting either.)

Thanks,

A:Solved: Will PC6400 RAM in PC5300 Laptop run cooler?

Shouldn't make any difference, the laptop will run the RAM at the same voltage so there's unlikely to any temp differences and the memory is tested and verified to run at the rated speeds so 'stress' wouldn't be an issue.

Hi, everyone. I'm looking to buy a new laptop within the next few months, and I was wondering what your recommendations would be.

In the past, I've been a big fan of Dell. I feel like they make a quality product and, if something goes wrong, they ship out a new part (usually overnight - I've had it arrive in less than 24 hours). However, I don't like the designs of their new notebooks. They are thick, made of plastic, and just cheap looking (and boring). Furthermore, they don't have both an eraserhead pointer and a touchpad (they just have the touchpad).

I'm also interested in IBM, but I don't know enough about ThinkPads. I hear they're the best, but IBM has also just been sold to that company in China. Do you think that will affect their quality? Anyone know how IBM's warranty operates? Also, does IBM ship a Windows disc with its computers (or one of those compaq-like "System Restoration" discs)?

I really like the WiFi on/off physical toggle switch on some HPs and Vaios, but I'm not too sure about the quality of their computers. I don't believe Dells or IBMs come with such switches, but I would really like that on my next computer.

Also, my price range is $2000 or less, after warranty and Office 2000 Small Business. I need 802.11 B & G.

I was thinking about getting Bluetooth support as well (for a Bluetooth mouse), but those that I've worked with (all have been the Microsoft version) h... Read more

A:New Laptop Recommendations

I don't think the "IBM" PC products will be going down the drain for at least a year or two. The merger of such huge business takes time and until then everything will be done the good old way.

HP and Sony do make good notebooks. I don't really understand what is so good about the physical WiFi switch tho..

You do not want a bluetooth mouse. You avoid all kinds of compatibility problems by using a plain PS/2 or USB mouse.

Centrino has better battery performance since all the system components are designed with low power consumption in mind.

I am a big an of ThinkPads myself. Those things are literally bomb-proof. They also come with TrackPoint which IMO is way better than those touchpads thingies and IBM laptop keyboards are very good. The Darth Vader style looks may not appeal to everyone though.

I'm not even thinking I'm going to be doing anything crazy with it either. Web browsing, email checking, word processing, music listening, movie watching. Its going to be a basic end-users machine. I do know I want a quad core processor, 6-8 gigs of ram, and I want the weight to be under 5lbs. But everything else I'm up in the air about.

My price ceiling is $350. Not one penny over.

I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a website, or a place to search around on. So I came here and wanted to ask, does anyone have any suggestions on laptops with all this in mind?

Depends on what you want to use the laptop for? Gaming, word processing, etc...? Can we assume that since you are asking if it can run on 220 volts that you live somewhere in Europe?

I am looking to buy a laptop for under $1000 Canadian that has the capabilities to stream my external HD webcam onto a chatroom of a maximum of 200 people will potentially viewing up to 4 cams myself without any lag or crashing as this is a quick way to lose potential money. I know a bit about computers but not enough to make a confident decision on which to invest my money on. Anyone have any thing they think would be #1?

I'm looking to spend about 1000 dollars, maybe a LITTLE bit over on a laptop. I plan to use this for college uses ranging from essays, internet use, programming in C++ and higher, basic microsoft office things, video/audio editing, and maybe a little bit of entertainment on the side.

Also, I don't want it to be too heavy, I'll be bringing it with me to a lot of places. Also, i'll be working on it at home with my wireless network. Is there anything else I should describe?

So basically I'm just looking for a laptop within that price range that could do all of the mentioned above. ANy ideas? Show me like some links or names with prices...thanks!

Hello all,

Planing to grab a new laptop in the near future and wanted to do some educating for it.

Not sure what type, but I will be doing a clean install, putting in an SSD and replacing the memory. I want to do this correctly so if I was setting this computer up today, would following these tutorials in order be a good start?
1. Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

2. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...ndows-7-a.html

3. RAM - Test with Memtest86+

4. Internet Troubleshooting Guide

5. Reliability Monitor - Reset

6. Optimize Windows 7

7. System Repair Disc - Create

Edited: removed original step 2 process dealing with ssd drives, and just sticking to standard SSD instillation

There are so many tutorials that offer so much info, but too many to narrow down. Just looking to the pros for some advice, but if it's already a tutorial it makes it a lot easier so if there is something else to read I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks

You don't need to tweak the SSD unless problems arise then one of our SSD experts will advise you. The optimize steps are the only tweaks I would consider otherwise.

Once you swap in the SSD and check it's detected in BIOS setup, just proceed with the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you choose to use a secondary HD for data, then copy your backed up User folders there, rightclick each to link it to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums.

But I'd get a large enough SSD so all the programs, page file and hibernate file (if you use it) fit on it, since they benefit most from the speed.

Hello everyone!
I'm a newbie to PC gaming, I have been playing "Dayz" on my HP laptop, but the graphics quality and lag I experience is rather annoying! So I'm looking to replace a few components on my laptop but I have no idea where to start or what to change, so I've come to Techspot looking for advice!
bear in mind I don't want to blow the bank on loads of expensive upgrades
here are the specs, any suggestions?

Microprocessor AMD Quad-Core A4-5000M APU with Radeon HD 8330 Graphics (1.5 GHz, 2 MB cache)
Chipset AMD A76M FCH
Memory 4 GB DDR3
Video Graphics AMD Radeon HD 8330 Graphics (up to 1.98 GB)
Hard Drive 750 GB 5400 rpm SATA
Up to 24 GB partition for system recovery

A:Recommendations for my laptop upgrade

Unfortunately most laptops do not have the option of replacing components. Your options for this HP Laptop is: upgrading your RAM to 8GB (or more depending on how much max RAM the laptop allows) & changing the Hard Drive from the 5400 rpm to either a 7200 rpm or better yet a SSD. Laptops are not component swappable like the Desktop computers are. Most laptops have parts soldered in on the motherboard. You might be able to eliminate some "Lag" with the RAM and Hard Drive changes, but if you are looking for a drastic improvement, I would suggest a laptop more suited for gaming.
