Unclickable white square in bottom left corner of screen

Q: Unclickable white square in bottom left corner of screen

English is not my native language, but hopefully I can explain this well enough despite not knowing the technical terms.

I have been googling like crazy trying to figure out what this can be, but to no avail. It started after the Windows 10 anniversary update and it might be related to either chrome cast or spotify, as after resetting laptop to factory settings I did not see this problem again initially until I started using these again. However, when the white square pops up can be completely unrelated to using these, and uninstalling Spotify did nothing.

The white square isn't always visible either, but is still there as a large unclickable area. If I right-click on it, a menu comes up that says back forward and reload, but clicking these does nothing. The only way to get rid of it is to restart, but it will come up again pretty soon. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm a network admin for about 30 users. About 10 of them are having a problem with any new document in Word (both XP and 2003). A small hollow square appears in the upper left corner. They're unable to delete it, and it freezes the "File" button on the Menu bar. Sometimes it freezes Word totally. They are able to print existing documents opened in Explorer. Very annoying! Any thoughts?

Hi SuyimarLets get the ball rolling Step 1Download ADWCleaner to your desktop:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/NOTE: If using Internet Explorer and get an alert that stops the program downloading, click on the warning and allow the download to complete.Close all programs and click on the AdwCleaner icon.Click on Scan and follow the prompts. Let it run unhindered. When done, click on the Clean button, and follow the prompts. Allow the system to reboot. You will then be presented with the report. Copy & Paste this report on your next reply. The report will be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.Step 2Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".The tool will open and start scanning your system. Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

IT APPEARS FROM THE BEGINNING WHEN THE POWER IS ON. I can't take a screen shot of this bar! It doesn't work with Ctrl+Alt+Print screen. In screen shot, everything is normal(NO BAR). So, i think this is not a graphic problem. It covers the whole start menu bar. So, i take a photo manually with a camera. Here it is:

Hi,

I have an issue with a white rectangular box appearing in the top left corner of my laptop screen.

It covers the icons behind it and renders them 'unclickable'.

Nothing happens if the box itself is clicked on.

It does not stay on top of other windows, just the desktop.

It appears after the laptop has been to sleep and on occasions, just seems to appear randomly.

I believe it may be a problem with Display Link drivers i use for a universal adapter for multiple monitors. I have asked around on display links forums but i am yet to find a solution (updated all drivers, uninstalled, re-installed, etc.), so i thought I would ask you guys if you have any ideas.

Other places i have found similar issues:

White Box on Desktop with Dynadock - DisplayLink Forum

I have attached a screenshot of the issue.

any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

A:Holding X240 by bottom left hand corner causes screen to black out and flicker

Hi, I had this problem several times as well. First time it happened was I picked up my x240 (with lid open) from the corner to the left of the trackpad, and the screen flickered and crashed. The x240 crashed the same way when I was using the x240 on my lap, while resting my left elbow to the left of the trackpad, supporting my chin reading the a document on the screen. I think the crash happens when there's pressure to the area to the left of the trackpad. It would be great if anyone else could replicate the same problem, and hopefully somone can find a fix!

So I just got my new Dell studio xps 16" laptop on Saturday. I reinstalled using my own Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit disk and have had absolutely no problems.

However today, I noticed that there is a single bright white pixel in the top left corner of my screen exactly at the (0,0) position.

It seems to only show up on the desktop, because running pictures over the corner where it shows, it does not show up. I also have run several programs to check for dead pixels, and it does not show up.

I know it is not a dead pixel because it shows up in a screenshot which I have included.

My video card is the Radeon 4670 1GB.

I have found a few threads online where people have the same problems but none of them really gave any soloutions.

I have found that if I terminate the wdm.exe (Windows Desktop Manager) process it disappears. However, that stops my window peeking from working.

Another thing, it does not appear right after I log in, maybe about 10 seconds after windows has loaded.

Any ideas?

My computer is about a year old now, built by me and my dad. Recently it's been having some issues though-- for a while I think it was over heating, causing it to reboot. At least I hope it was just overheating. One time when I booted up my computer it told me overclocking failed, which was odd because I hadn't messed with any of the settings (all still defaults).

But heres the major issue: If you boot it up, after the BIOS it'll give you a black screen with a blinking underscore up in the left corner. If you're quick enough you can get it to go into safe mode, etc. You can also choose which drive to boot from--- I found that it only gives you the black screen with certain drives. But, I did notice that its very slow when you have the "loading" screen for windows-- it'll slowly fade in and start loading, then it goes to a normal speed.

Specs:
IntelCore2CPU [email protected]
Nvidia 8800 GTS (640 MB)
4 GB RAM (although I can't use it all...)
Don't know much about my mobo except its a P5K

A:Black Screen + White Underscore in Upper Left Corner

I could be a memory issue. Try removing RAM one stick at a time and seeing if any of them are causing it. Then try them individually in each slot. It could be the motherboard if only one slot is faulty.

but the screen didnt close, it didnt put on sleep. (I know it was a stupid move)
so I force shut down the pc, and when start it up, more than 3 little dots appeared on the bottom left side of my screen.
it looks like its hardware problem.. how to fix this? I dont have this laptop more than 6 months and is kept in a good shape, no direct hit, or anything..

Ok so there's a really old thread about this already. But it didn't solve my problem. When I boot vista, a little white square appears in the upper left corner. It's not my wallpaper. On the old thread they have resolved the problem as being an ATI GPU Driver problem, and the update fixed it. But here's my problem, I don't have an ATI GPU.

When I right click the little white sqaure I can open up its properties, and in the properties it has a name of some website. Shortly after I even read it a "close program" window comes up. I click on close and the sqaure dissapears until the next time I boot.

Leaving the white square on just messes with whatever programs Im running. For example: If im watching a movie in full-screen, it will randomly just exit out of full screen. It doesnt do that once the white sqaure is off.

Well thanx for hearing out my problem, any help would be great.

Hi, I just noticed this problem yesterday, of ads popping up in the left and right corner of my browsers. I uninstalled Google Chrome and Firefox, but now it is in Internet Explorer as well. I tried to run DDS to capture my logs; but my computer has been acting as if it is opening them for 15 minutes now, and the program is now not coming up.

Okay so let me start by saying I'm not a very good computer person. However, I've noticed these popu-ups in the bottom corner of Chrome and they are driving me crazy. The only extensions I'm using are AdBlock, Adblock Plus (can anyone tell me the difference?), and SiteAdvisor from McAfee.

From here, I have no clue what to do. Chrome is the only browser I use so I'm not sure if the pop-ups are in any other browsers. I also have no clue where to find my system information or anything, so I'm sorry.

Any help I can get would be fantastic!

A:Pop-ups in bottom left corner of chrome, redirecting links to random pages

Please post a screen shot of this.

1. Download and run A Thousand Words .

2. Follow the wizard to capture a screenshot

3. Use the built-in editor to resize, edit, or re-capture your screen shot.

4. Your screen shot will be saved to your desktop when you finish the wizard.

You can post the screenshot in your next post as an attachment.

Just below the area where you write text in a post there is the Post button, to the right of this is More Reply Options.

When you click on More Relpy Options  you will see Attach Files and Browse, click on Browse, this will open Pictures on your computer, click on the image you made with the, then click on Attach This File, then Add Reply.

A white square measuring 2" x 2.5" appears at the top left of my screen only after the computer is unlocked. It does not appear after reboots. Reboots are the only way to clear it. It appears after I unlock the computer when I manually lock it or when it's locked by a screensaver.

I've read some other threads on there about white squares appearing and have tried suggestions on them with no luck. This one seems a bit different.

A:[SOLVED] White Square at top left of dekstop only after computer lock

I see that you are using Rocket Dock? Try disabling it lock the computer than unlock to see if Rocket Dock (If that is what you are using) is causing the issue.

If that is not the problem update your graphics drivers by going to the manufacture of your computer's website or the manufacture of your graphics card.

Every time I go to any site at all, these weird addresses appear in the bottom left corner of the screen. Is this some kind of virus?? I got rid of a bad virus a couple of months ago, and I've run several different kinds of scans recently to check for a new virus but everything comes up clean. What is going on here??

After the virus I got a couple of months ago, my Internet explorer never worked right again. It stopped working completely, just wouldn't load any sites, and I couldn't uninstall it but I installed Firefox and it worked fine so I just started using Firefox instead. I guess I should also mention that I received help from an admin on this site for my previous virus problem, and after looking at all my virus scan logs and everything, their final consensus was that I merely needed to uninstall Internet explorer (but since windows won't let me uninstall it, I just switched to Firefox instead).

Anyway, as I've been noticing the weird addresses in the bottom left of my browser, I've also frequently been unable to load pages at all, or they load extremely slowly. What is going on???

Some examples of what is showing up in the corner as I attempt to load a video on Hulu:

So I have this white pixel on my top left corner... It's not a dead pixel, but it's there. Did not seem to notice it before, but I am sure it was not there when I got the laptop. I'm not sure what might have caused this. It rotates with the screen. A full screen app like chrome covers it, but it is very visible when on the desktop. It's not my wallpaper. When I hover over it, I get a loading cursor. Nothing happens when I left or right-click on it. Does anyone have this as well?

Acer Travelmate 5542 turns on to a black screen with white line in the top left corner. I have changed all boot devices and still nothing works. will not boot t oCd drive USB or HDDProblem Started: Acer utility said the original hard drive was going bad and to back up all data. So i did. Then i went out and bought a new Toshiba 500gb HDD. I've installed probably 200 HDD into computers so i had no worries. I then went to boot to a USB drive with window 7 pro installed. However i couldnt get a boot menu to come up with F1-F12 and even ESC. So i then went into the BIOS and changed F12 to be the boot screen. ( Also while in the bios i was able to see the computer can see the new HDD and the Sandisk USB) So after i saved teh settings and restarted i was able to get the boot screen but when i select anything it goes to a black screen with a little white line in the upper left corner. I was able to remove the hard drive put it in a different computer and it worked fine to install Win 7. So i put it back into the laptop and still same problem. I cant boot to CD/DVD, USB, or HDD

I would like you to use the tutorial below to access the Command Prompt to rebuild the Boot Configuration Data.

The tutorial below includes a link to download a Windows 7 ISO image and instructions for burning this to a disc to create a bootable installation disc.  You will need to follow the instructions to step 7b, in the instructions there you would normally choose the Startup Repair from the System Recovery Options, but in this case you will choose Command Prompt.  You do not need to use these instruction any further than step 7b.  This will open the elevated command prompt, it will look similar to the image below.

Copy and paste the command below in the command prompt, then press Enter.

bootrec /rebuildbcd

Instructions for a Windows 7 Repair installation.

A Windows 7 Repair Installation will require a installation disc.

If you do not have a Windows 7 installation disc you can download a free legal ISO image of Windows 7 SP1 at  Windows 7 Forums.  You will need to download the same version of Windows 7 that you have installed,  This image is hosted by the Digital River store which is an official distribution partner of Microsoft.  This is a genuine untouched image which is safe to download.

Attention:  If you do have a Windows installation disc, skip Part A and go to Part B, Step 1b.

Hello. I just wanted to give a quick rundown of what issues I am having, as well as note a few problems during the recommended procedure for posting here. First, I did not run GMER as I am running a 64-bit OS. Second, I have been having occasional browser redirects. It does not seem to have any restriction as to where it will happen. From League of Legends forums, to bleeping computer forums, to google searches. It can and does happen at random fairly frequently (maybe once every 10-15 minutes when browsing the internet).

The white box is actually up on my browser screen as I type this post. It will typically only show up on forum type sites from what I have seen. It will say "Recommended for You" and have an 'x' in the upper right corner. When clicked, it just shrinks down to the "Recommended for You" box again.

I have included the dds.txt copy/paste below, as well as attached the attach.txt to this post. You guys are awesome, looking forward to hearing from you.

I recently bought an Inspiron 7559 laptop and then decided to clone the HDD with a Sandisk 1TB SSD. I also added another 8GB main memory. I replaced the drive and the PC worked just fine.
After a few days, I quick formatted the HDD and put it back in as a Data D drive. The day I did that Dell upgraded my BIOS and on reboot soon after a square block of white area appeared on the top left quadrant of either of my screens, the laptop or the U2415 (also brand new.) If I move between the screens then the other does not show the anomaly.
If I right click on the task bar and bring the desktop up the block gets painted over/filled with the background. However if I start an app, say a browser the block re-appears. I did Dell diagnostics which passed all the components and then also diagnostics via the BIOS and that also did not show any problem. I decided against the longer diagnostic for now.
There does not seem to be any issues but it would be good to solve it...maybe something came loose when I opened the back and replaced the SSD or the HDD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and recently reinstalled the OS because of a bunch of issues that had popped up. One of them was that when I move the cursor to the bottom right corner of the screen, it would start to blink and the CPU usage would go up to 50% . I figured this would go away after I reformatted, but it showed up again after I installed my usual software.

I use two monitors and it happens on the second one as well >_>

It's easy enough to just avoid the bottom right corner, but I'd really like to know what this could be.

A:Cursor Blinks in Bottom Right Corner of Screen

This sounds like a hardware problem to me, but not one that I've ever heard of.

Did the problem occur before you installed your usual software?
