Q: M70e Tower: 8GB memory, graphics & power supply upgrade

How much ram can be installed in a m70e? i've seen sites that offer 8GB sticks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you don't wish to buy memory from Lenovo, both Kingston and Crucial have 'System Specific' memory for your system that are guarranteed to work. Memory timings must be match what the BIOS expects for the system to recognize it, and generic memory often doesn't work.

Use your Hardware Maintenance Manual for instructions on how to upgrade the memory. After making any memory change, run 2 passes of MemTest86 to ensure all is well. A few older system types (eg. some models of M58), required a BIOS update to support 4 GB modules. I'm not familiar with the M70, but it's probably similar to the other models. If you take the cover off and measure the existing supply, then you'll know if it is a ATX or TFX standard. )

The Mini-Tower uses a standar ATX power supply, and the SFF a standard TFX pwer supply. A power connector adapter (ATX to Lenovo) is required for M92 and forward. For the SFF, the maximum aftermarket TFX is 400w, with 350w being more common -- not a huge increase over stock. For the Mini-tower, I have had an 650w aftermarket Corsair in mine (I recommend one that is semi-modular and shorter, as space is limited inside the case.

Will any ATX Power Supply fit in the 990 MiniTower?
The system comes with 265 watts but I'd like to install a more powerful supply so I can upgrade the video card to whatever I want.
On NewEgg, the sizes of the various power supplies seem to be slightly different dimensions than the Dell Optiplex 990 supply.
Plus, Dell doesn't leave any margin for error in replacing with the exact same dimensions as the original equipment. They have all this aluminum and such preventing even a few millimeters difference in size with the replacement.
I prefer a Corsair Gold 80 Plus.
Thanks.

There have been a few threads about the propreitary 14pin PSU connectors and that there's no aftermarket support for upgrades. But it's been a little while, and Lenovo (around the office, my staff are calling them "Le-No-No" now) hasn't change policy, or offered an upgrade.

We have just received several of these i7 PC's and they all have the useless 280w PSU's. Those are severely limiting in what video cards can be installed, as anything over 55w will knock the PSU over. That means, no decent cards. A Quadro 2000 is, at 51W, about as far as we can go.

My CDW rep has been working to find a solution for us, but without any success. So I'm bringing it to the community before I have to re-evaluate our desktop hardware choice.

Has anybody made either an adapter or a PSU that will work on the Lenovo 14-pin motherboards?

(Oh, and yes, I've read http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/A-M-and-Edge-Series-ThinkCentre/M92P-14pin-power-supply-connector/m-p/84... . No help there. Thought I'd post a clear question here in hopes that someone has started making adapters.)

hi, I am going to upgrade my graphic card to ATI 5770 so I need a new power supply which has power about 550--600 watt. But the most frustrating problem is that I failed to find a proper power supply with the correct dimension.
I have an HP pavilion e9300 which uses a very wired power supply tower-150mm(W) 86(H) 140(D). But so far all the PSUs I found is the standard size --150mm(W) 86(H) 150(D) which cannot fit in my setup.

So could any PC God give me some suggestion, please??
Is any PSU with the size of my tower or can I just simply install a bigger PSU which can still successfully power up the comptuer?

Thx in adance.

If the power supply will physically fit your case, it should work fine with your computer. Will the extra 10mm interfere internally with anything inside the PC?

My brother got me a GeForce GTX 460 SE without realizing that I didn't have enough power in my power supply. So my question is: can I upgrade my power supply? I have an HP Pavillion Elite 350t (HPE-350t). Or if I can't upgrade it, do you have any good recommendations for a 300w power supply? The best ones for the Sims 3 & expansions seem to need more power, or are no longer supported by EA - at least ones from Nvidia, I still need to check ATI, but I've always used Nvidia cards, so I'm more comfortable with them. I've been working on this for weeks, and I can't get straight answers from people I know, so my PC's just sitting in my room, open, as I was working on it for a long time and don't want to close it up until this is all figured out. Thank goodness I have my Macbook, lol.

Thanks for any help I can get.

If it helps, I do watch movies on it, edit/record video, edit photos, etc. I also sometimes record audio. Do you want me to post any specs? I can also post pics of the inside of the PC if it'll help.

Hi. I just purchased a Lenovo Thinkcentre M91p (machine type 0266) which has an external 150w power supply. I purchased it to be used as a HTPC and i want to put a gpu and more ram in it. The problem is the power supply, all the ones i see people talk about have an internal 240w power supply. On the back of the pc is a DC in jack thats directly into the motherboard itself.

I ran some calculations on power usage and the site i used said the recommended power supply size for the standard unit is 150w with a peak load of 123w. Adding the gpu alone pushes the peak load to 140w (nvidia gt730) with a recommended supply of 180w.

My question basically is how can i upgrade an external power supply when all i can find is standard 150w external replacements or internal ones that wont be of any use

Hi this is my first question here.
I just bought a M900 SFF (i7-6700) which has a 210W PSU. I want to get a MSI 750ti low profile GPU but worried about the lack of power so Im considering upgrading the original PSU.
However, the motherboard has a Lenovo style 10-pin ATX and another 4-pin. So far I couldn't find any PSU that matches the motherboard. I would really appreciate some help!

Mod:  edited Subject line to add other system types that can use the same power supply and graphics cards

Also, I tried using the 750ti LP with the current 210W PSU. It worked fine with Would of Warcraft, but I havn't try other programs that might have higher power demand. Do you think I should keep looking for a PSU upgrade plan or is it actually just fine with the 210W? I used a PSU calculator and for my current system (with 750ti) it gave a 205W estimation, which is just under 210W.

I've read many similar posts here on this problem, but found no clear solution. I bought this partly for the advertised 'potential for upgrade', which now seems to me a lie because I can't even upgrade a PSU???

I recently purchased a refurbished Optiplex 7010 MT. Core i7 3.40GHz 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, DVDRW, 7P Minor side issue: I have already ordered the memory to upgrade it to 32GB RAM based on the advice of the store that sold it to me and Crucial.  Unfortunately, if I read the dell-optiplex-7010-manual-en.pdf right.  It can take 8gb RAM but only two of them for a total of 16gb.   Is it possible to utilize all four 8gb DIMM?   If not, the importance of the speed of the graphics has become even more important.
I need to upgrade the power supply and video card to run Adobe software -- Photoshop, etc. Based on prior experience, I need the fastest possible graphics option.    I'm thrifty but not stingy ... if I can get a racehorse for a bit more then I will.
The video card that I'm thinking about buying is the GEForce GT 640 recommended by Dell. Is there a specific version since the specifications also say "(OHGA3/M209N)"? I would prefer to be able to use a card with more memory but still PCIe 3.0 which appears to be much faster than the PCIe 2.0. If there is a better card out there, please let me know.
The power supply is standard. Since this is April 2016, the Dell recommended Corsair 650TX appears to be hard to get at best, Is there another power supply that would work?
Thank you for your help. Much appreciated!

I have recently bought a New tower( a super tower) a new power supply, 500 volt ATX 2.0. I have tried two motherboards and I can't even get to BIOS. Would this possibly be the CPU? Keep in mind that I tried the bare minimum took out everything except the video card and the power to the motherboard. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Unfortunately I can't remember the exact type of motherboard, as I am away from home at the moment.

I have a Precision Tower 3620 recently acquired and I am installing a BARCO MXRT 7500 video board. This board need a 8 pins connector to the supply the operating voltages.
The power supply does not have this connector and its capacity is only 290 watts. In order to supply the video board and increase the capacity and want to change by other power supply.
I want to know if DELL has a large power supply that include this 8 pins connector for use whit this 3620 tower?

hi, I see inside my pc that all the plugs are connected directly to the motherboard and not  to the power supply except the 4pin and 14 pin. so i'm asking if I plug a modular power supply to the pc will I have to plug only the the 4 and 14 pin (with a 24 to 14 pin adapter of course) ? leave all the rest as it is? beacause I thought all the drives get their power from the power supply directly and not through the motherboard. will appreciate any help.

Hello, I bought a new Dell power supply a few weeks ago after I got the blinking amber light of doom   I had managed to replace the power supply a few years ago, however in my haste to remove the old supply I forgot to take pictures of where all the cables go and now I am completely lost. I have tried plugging it up but I keep getting a message of "drive one not found Serial ATA and SATA1.  It's got a lot of cords that I don't remember on the old power supply labeled from P1 through P9. If anyone could give me a simple explanation of how to plug these cords up I would really appreciate it because I don't want to have to buy a new computer. Thank you very much

I have a Dell OptiPlex GX280 mini-tower (smallest one thereis), and the original 160W power supply died a few months ago without warning. I ordered a new power supply, but accidentally ordered the wrong size (210W for one of the larger towers). I used it in the meantime until I could get the proper size (although the 210W supply wouldn’t fit in the mini case – I left it out of the case and ran the wires through the power plug hole). The computer booted up just fine with this 210W power supply. I finally got around to ordering the 160W smaller correct size, but that power supply would not boot up the computer (just got an amber flashing light). Thinking it was just faulty, I sent it back and requested a replacement. The replacement did not work either. I ordered a third replacement, and the third did not work either! So now I am back to using the 210W power supply (No. HP-U2106F3) which does not fit in the computer housing. I know these Dell OptiPlex machines are notorious for having power supply and capacitor issues. But the question is, why will the computer power on using the 210W power supply? I contacted Dell and they were of no help whatsoever. The guy told me that 160W wasn’t enough to power my machine and to order a 210W power supply correctly sized for my chassis. Gee, thanks! First of all, they don’t make 210W that fit in the mini towers, and second of all, why did it used to work just fine??? Oh, and no I have not upgraded anything (i.e., video card, etc.) which... Hello!

I'm currently running on an eMachines ET1831-07, and as such have a 250w power supply and just a chipset. (I have no idea what I'm talking about, this is what my fiancé told me to post. I trust him because he's a computer science major >.>) I was wondering if there's a power supply with 300w output that I can upgrade to without.. Err.. Melting my motherboard, since the only graphics cards I can find that he says will make any difference on my game quality require 300w.

I'm not looking for max fps, or high quality graphics or anything, I just want the games to be playable.

Thanks much!
~Hannah

Edit: If anyone could also recommend a graphics card that I could use, I'd really appreciate that too! I have one PCI 16 pin slot open, and one PCI express pin slot according to my fiancé. Thank you!

I have a precision tower 5810 with 685W power supply.  In the Tech Specs it says.
Support for two PCI Express® x16 Gen 2 or Gen 3 graphics cards up to 300W (total graphics in two slots with 685W PSU)
So you should be able to run two 150w video cards but 150w video cards all seem to need two 6pin power connecters each for a total of four 6pin power connecters for two cards.  But my 5810 only has two 6pin connecters.  And I can't find anywhere to plug in more.

A:How to run 300w of video cards with precision tower 5810 685W power supply?

150W cards have 1 pci-e connector, 75W comes from the X16 slot and 75W comes from 1 PCI-E connector.

225W  cards need 2 which gives 150W from PCI-E power and 75W from the X16 slots.
You cant use 2X  225W card.

A:What graphics card will my H520s power supply support (PSU, power calculator)

Use a power supply calculator to get a accurate calculation of your power requirements.   Graphics card manufacturers have to figure a worst case scenario when giving power requirements.

Mod:  removed the Newegg calculator, which only gives a recommended psu size, rather than a power calculation.   The CoolerMaster gives both.

Hi. Wondering if any can comment.  The specs say the LVK-m70ESFF-0822 also known as Model J3J 0822 has a maximum memory config of 4GB over 2 slots.  so 2gig ddr3 per slot. With a 64 bit cpu and windows 10 is there any reason to think it would not take two 4gig cards and be able to use all the ram?  The 4 gig limit sounds like when it was built 10+years ago it was a 32 bit OS. Comments appreciated.

A:maximum memory m70e

It's not an OS limit, but what the Motherboard supported (Chipset, BIOS, memory chip density.)   Note that system came with Win 7 32 or 64-bit.

Detailed specifications - ThinkCentre M70e

Doubtless, if the system had 4 DIMM sockets it would support 8GB.

Hi,

I would like to upgrade the graphics card in my Optiplex 990, can anyone please let me know if there are any recommended PCI / PCI express cards that are known to be compatible with the slot power rating of the system board.

The PSU is not an issue as I upgraded the shipped 240W PSU for a Corsair HX650 with modular cabling so I have got enough juice for the card. Its the motherboard slot rating and any other factors that will impact on choice of upgrade card that I am not sure about. I tried to locate some documentation on the support section of the site but kept getting error messages (servers screwed up on weekend?)
If there is a technical document that gives the ratings for the PCI slots and what can be shoved into them I would be grateful for a link?

Thx

A:Optiplex 990 Mini Tower - Options To Upgrade Graphics With PCI Card?

You need to get a PCI Express x16 video card not a PCI.  If you have upgraded to a 650 watt corsair, then you should not have any limitations when you install a PCIe X16 video card.  It should configure to provide 75 watts and additional watts can be provided through the PCIe power cables on the power supply.

I am looking to get a new graphics card for my computer because atm it has integrated graphics, which as most of you know sucks. The power supply is 250W which I doubt would be enough to have a whole new graphics card implemented. The model is p6166f. The mother board has this for a graphics card slot PCI express 16x GPU. Please give me suggestions, I am looking to spend approximately 150 - 200 $ total.

A:Graphics card power supply

Hi ToonArmy,

Here is the official system requirements for the HD 4850 graphics card. Note the power requirement. You should be OK with your existing PSU, however you will be running fairly near its maximum rating with very little room, if any, for further system expansion. I suggest that you upgrade your PSU to at least 650 Watts.

Interesting. I tried to find some reviews on it (real reviews by professionals), and couldn't. I'd like to see how stable they are first before I popped one in my system. Have you been able to find any reviews?

Also, are you SURE your current PSU is not enough? It may be enough you know. I see you only have 18amps on the 12v volt, that is very much on the low side, but it would depend on what else you have in your box.

I'm tempted to recommend you get a high quality 450w FSP power supply for $40 over getting the thermaltake.....
