HDD Doesn't boots/Seagate Tools can't fix bad sectors.

Q: HDD Doesn't boots/Seagate Tools can't fix bad sectors.

Ok friends, i'm having a bad time with my hdds.

I have this 200gb seagate which i was using. It has my OS installed .. and it has 2 partitions.

I went to sleep and kept my comp on, but i saw in the morning, that the computer had restarted and was on the pre-bios screen where it dint detect my hdd (but did detect my dvd drive).

I switched the pc off/on and it appeared back .. i went on to boot to my windows but it again restarted.

I tried booting into safe mode but it restarted again.

Finally i made another attempt but this time it would just show me an error "drive read fail. Press alt+ctrl+del to restart"

I then tried to scan my hdd with seagate hdd diagonistic tools, it detected 19 bad sectors, but when i tried to repair them it dint work, i mean it would just stay on the first sector and the text "TESTING" keeps blinking.

I ran the scan again and the same thing happened.

I ran the scan again but this time skipping the first one and repairing the next one, but again it kept the text "testing" blinking and sticking to the 2nd sector itself.

I dont know why is this happening. This is the 2nd time in 2 weeks my hdd is acting up. (the 1st one died completely, suddenly). I recently fixed the bad sectors in this same hdd, but donno how it would gain so many bad sectors back again so soon. Why is this happening?

And why doesn't the seagate tools fix the errors? (knowing that it fixed some bad sectors just past week on the same drive).

Please help me

thank you all in advance and my regards to all

Preferred Solution: HDD Doesn't boots/Seagate Tools can't fix bad sectors.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My hard drive has been making sort of scratching sound recently, like if you had some dirt or something in the HD.

I started HD sentinel and this is the report

I take it my drive is failing?
422 days does not seem a lot.

A:4000 Bad Sectors, Seagate Barracuda 1TB

I think I would run SeaTools, Seagate's diagnostic program. If it were me I would already be backing up my personal data. If that report is correct, it seems your drive is failing or has failed just hasn't realized it yet.

I bought a 1TB Seagate Expansion Drive last week for backing up my files and this morning when I plugged in the drive into my laptop, I cant access it and windows told me that the drive is not formatted and ask me whether to format it or not. Then I use HD Tune to diagnose the drive and found out that the drive has 21 unstable sectors and I wonder what does that mean ? Is this a manufacturing fault or the user fault ? Will reformat solve the issue or should I claim the warranty ?

The external hard drive isn't recognized anymore. I used the SeaTools and did some disk analysis and it told me that it couldn't continue after discovering over 20 bad sectors. This external is very important and I need all or almost all of the files. Is there anything I can do to repair this hard drive? I tried going through the properties and doing an error check but it won't even start. It shows up in My Computer but it reads as 0 bytes and asks me if I want to format it if I try to open it. I really don't want to format it. Please help.

Does the drive make any odd noises like squeeks? There is a program called HDDRegenerator that can sometimes fix bad sectors if the drive isn't physically damaged. There are also some more advanced techniques you can try off a live linux cd.

If the disk is really damaged, this may be a tough task. But you can try to recover the data with an live Linux CD or my universal data recovery stick. Linux is not as picky as Windows and maybe it would work.

Hi there.

For the past week I have been retrieving 2 TB of movies from my Seagate 3TB Expansion Desk drive (USB 3). It started acting funny after my room mate accidentally flipped the main power circuit for my bedroom while I was in the middle of a transfer. Oddly enough, I was in the middle of retrieving videos from a 6+ year old Verbatim 500 GB which had an ongoing power circuit issue when he flipped the switch. I was salvaging those videos to this 3TB drive at that moment. He killed that Verbatim dead to rights with the surge, and I believe it caused the issues on this Seagate 3TB.

I can still transfer data to and from the Seagate anywhere from 35-90 MB/s depending on if the other drive is a USB 3 as well. But it just will not play many movies, and HD particularly bad. I mainly use Kodi (XBMC), but have tried VLC and MPC. All fail at the same points or close in the different players. I assumed corrupt files but when I copy them to other drives then play them they work .

So, I ran chkdsk I: /f /r . It ran thru quickly saying no issues. Every indicator has shown the drive as healthy. I ran the zero out option with a format in Partition Wizard. Didn't help. Frustrated last night I decided to run chkdsk I: /r one last time. It hung at 10%, and thinking maybe its doing something, I left it, but it was going for nearly 24 hours. I finally cancelled the chkdsk and ran a surface test with Partition Wizard and now after an hour or so, I am getting some bad blocks a... Read more

For heaven's sake please help me. I'm in real trouble. Some months ago I was backing up my files to my new Seagate 500GB external USB drive. Around those days when I was doing the backup we were having intermittent electricity blackouts. I don't have backup power source such as UPS. I think the blackouts messed up the drive. I have two Seagate drives. The problem also happened to the other drive which wasn't used for the backup but I formatted it and it's working fine now. But that backup Seagate has messed up big time.

When I had copied almost 8GB data. The computer couldn't read any further. The light on the drive keep blinking and it said something like 'couldn't read from sector...'. I'm sure physically the drive has no problem.

I think my only option left to retrieve the data is to use SpinRite software. My friend has bootable CD of this software. Please, guide me what else could I do?

Thanks a lot for your time and suggestions.

PS: It's a USB one and I have already taken it out of the enclosure and directly attached to the board but all in vain. It seems only option left is SpinRite.

My 3 TB Seagate Barracuda HDD was working fine then became inaccessible.

The drive shows in My Computer as having zero size and zero capacity left.

If i right click on that drive to open it , it says the drive " is not formatted "

I downloaded the Seagate File Recovery app but it says "the drive is experiencing too many read errors"
Are there any other programs i can try to recover data from this ? ( CCTV files )

The drive is still under warranty

any suggestions ?

Seagate are asking for $ 490 to do it.

See here for a possible reason if you formatted the drive with an MBR :- http://forum.cgsecurity.org/phpBB3/3tb-ntfs-drive-data-recovery-t2318.html

I recently installed a Seagate HDD Model: ST1000DM003-1CH162, Serial: Z1DDFCEY, Firmware: CC49. It boots up and shutsdown very slowly. The SATA setting is set to AHCI in UEFI Bios. My mother board is an AsRock Z97 Extreme 4. I am using the latest firmware and no updates are available. I created the disk using Copy Drive in Casper 7.0 from my Samsung SSD. How can I resolve this issue ?

A:New Seagate HDD Boots Up and Shutsdown very Slowly.

SSD drives and mech drives use a different partition offset. I have no idea if the drive utility you used will apply the correct offset.

Is there some reason why you would not use the free version of acronis true image? This is available on the seagate site.

Trying to use Seagate Tools but can't boot from it in this one particular system.

What strange is that the bios is set to boot from cd-rom, if I put in a win cd or a linux cd, it will boot from them. If I put in any other bootable cd, it won't boot or recognize them. I have used this same seagate cd in other systems and it boots fine.
It's this one computer that baffles me. Not recognizing any tools cd's I put in.

I know there's a funny option in the bios about os2 that I've enabled and disabled with no luck in making it happen(boot from seatools).

Anyone run into something like this?

I seem to have experienced a bad installation of Seagate's FreeAgent Tools. When I try to re-install, I get the "Modify, repair or remove the program" dialog, and clicking on anything gives me the Feature transfer error "Error: - 1605 This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". The program does not appear in the Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs, nor does it appear in WinXP Manager's Smart Uninstaller list. I wrote to Seagate, but they say that "the issue is related to Windows Installer", and that I should contact Microsoft. So, of course, I came here first! I'm running XP SP2 on an HP dv9500t, with an external Seagate FreeAgent Pro (which is where the program in question originates). Thanks!

OK. If you understand that then you've been there too.

I have a Seagate 120gb HD and used the Seagate Wizard Tools that I downloaded from them to ghost (clone) to a new Western Digital 160gb HD. They are both 7200rpm and SATA.

The new drive boots up ok but only shows 128gb, not 154gb as it did before it was cloned (I am not talking about the size of the data that was cloned). I redid it in Manual mode but no change. As far as I know there are no partitions on the Seagate drive.

Another thing I noticed is that the System Files were at the front of the Seagate 120gb drive but are at the end on the WD 160gb. This shows when the drives are Defraged.

Can anybody sort this out for me? I am doing this so that I have a backup drive incase of a terminal crash.

Forgot, I am using a Intel 915gag [email protected] and W2000Pro with all updates.

Thanks, Steve

Hey guys, I come to you for some support with an odd issue I am having.

New hard drive showed 72 pending sectors, cleared upon low level format with no increase in reallocated sector count.

I had an external goflex desk 2tb that died shortly after getting my 80mb fibre and doing some high speed downloading. The issues specifically were a very high temp recorded in smart with 2120 bad sectors that could not be reallocated.

This drive was replaced with an external 2tb backup plus that within hours of usage showed large amounts of raw read error rates and several pending sectors.

This drive was again replaced for the drive I have now.

I noticed in my torrent client that there had been a write error to the drive. I proceeded to do the usual tests and I found 16 pending sectors. This rapidly escalated to 72.

High speed downloading is damaging my hard drives? I know that can't be right but I am at a loss. I download at approx 7mb/s and the drives have all been able to write at that speed.

I suspect that the original go flex drive simply burned out as it is known to be terrible at heat dissipation. I'm not sure what happened to the second drive but it was failing quickly.

As for this current drive, I have done a low level format and, oddly, all 72 pending sectors have been cleared yet the reallocated sector count did not increase at all. Am I correct to assume that this was in fact a false positive? I wonder if perhaps my torrent clie... Read more

Help! My computer recently crashed on me. I was getting the Blue Screen of Death. I thought I had a bad hard drive, so I returned my hard drive to Seagate and received another one. I just tried to put it into my computer and install Windows XP SP3, but after I select to install windows and press F8 to accept their terms, I see the screen that is supposed to show the open space on any hard drives installed, (so that I can select where I would like to install Windows XP) and it says "no disc in drive"! If I press enter, I then get a blue error screen that says it can't proceed and is shutting down my system to protect it. And then I can't do anything else. What is wrong with my computer? Could it be a problem with my motherboard? I have an Asus P5LP-LE. The HP/Compaq motherboard name is Leucite-GL8E.

A:HELP seagate 2tb external reached full capacity now doesn`t open

Right now, please do not run any Check Disk operation.

If you have important data to recover, that should be your first priority.

You said that you ran Partition Wizard. What exactly did you do with it?

Did you try Partition Recovery Wizard in it?

If you did not, then do as follows.

Plug-in your external drive and check it in Windows Disk Management.

If it appears as RAW, then run Partition Wizard and follow the process under the heading Recovery with Partition Wizard: SanDisk Cruzer Blade 16GB in the thread Recover a flash drive turned RAW ? Partition Wizard and TestDisk.

Check whether you can recover the partition and gain access to the disk.

I have a Seagate GoFlex Desk 3TB external hard drive. I got it about.. 6 months ago and I've never had a problem with it up until last week.
I plugged it in and it started making a normal fan sound like is usually does, then after a few seconds it stopped which made it seem like it was shut off.
It's been doing this constantly since last week and I don't know what the problem is, or how to fix it.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Seagate External Hard drive, starts up but doesn't finish.

Just a thought (or 2):
Try using a different USB port.
Try jiggling the USB in the socket (gently).
Try a different USB cable.
Be sure that you test with the laptop on power supply, not just battery.
Obviously I'm thinking that the connection is faulty somehow, which would disconnect and power down the external - even if it has it's own power supply.

I recently purchased a Seagate Backup Plus 3TB hard drive with USB 3.0 connector. I connected the 3.0 cable to a 2.0 port(don't have 3.0 ports) and windows popped up saying installing drivers for new device, pretty standard stuff. After it was done I went to My Computer, but the hard drive does not show up.

I checked device manager, and it does show the drive there. When I clicked properties and tried populating the "volumes" section, a 2.8tb section did show up, but had no label, but i don't know the significance of that. Any help with this is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hey guys, this is fairly long so bear with me...

Came back to my PC the other day, and it was turned off, when I had left it it was still on. To cut a long bit short, I discovered it was the fuse in the plug for the PSU power lead. So I replaced the fuse, turned on the mains, and BANG - PSU blew up (while it was still installed in PC).

Took it out, replaced with other PSU - started up PC and it would boot OK, and give me the single beep, but then would stay on a black screen and not proceed to the Windows splash screen.

So I tried booting into safe mode, this gave varied results - sometimes it would freeze when loading the various files at that black screen, other times it would actually let me log into Windows but then freeze straight away and I had to reboot.

So I booted from the windows cd-rom, and it would get as far as saying "Setup is loading Windows" or similar, then freeze.

Next, ordered another hd, removed old one - installed the new blank one, ran the Windows bootable cd, and this time it installed Windows fine. There I was thinking everything was now OK - not so. The PC was very unstable and kept crashing while installing new programs and using programs etc. I've gone back to it today, and now I am having the same problems as the previous hard drive. Windows won't load either way, and I can't even re-install from the Windows cd-rom as that freezes like before as well.

Basically all this leads me to believe it's gotta be something... Read more

I am not Even Sure if Its Freezing

There is a computer of a friend of mine. We took every single piece out and cleaned the dust on the pieces. After putting everything back together, it doesn't boot up properly. I see the bios screen than it asks me if where to boot, I choose HDD option. Then windows xp asks me what type of start up i want to go with. I chose normal, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt but whatever i chose didn't matter, it didn't started up.

When loading with safe mode option, it always freezes while loading amdagp.xxx file. When loading with normal mode option, i see gray bar at the bottom progressing and when it gets fully gray, there suppose to be a windows logo but instead i get a black screen.

I thought it might be the hard drive damaged and replaced it with another hdd of mine which also has xp professional on it. But it had the same problem. What are the possibilities? What can be wrong? Computer is HP Pavilion XT928.

I have a HP/Compaq nc6000 laptop that is a few years old running Windows XP. All service packs, etc are up to date.

Sometimes the laptop boots up normally and works fine and sometimes it doesn't. After pressing the power button, the power light comes on, the fan starts, (I think I hear) the hard drive spin and then it all stops. The power light goes to amber (charging) and then it turns off.

Typically when it boots properly, at the very beginning, the number lock, caps lock, and a third light all blink together, then turn off and it boots. When it's not going to boot, these lights don't even come on. (That's when I know it won't work.)

I've tried re-seating the memory. That worked twice but now I think it was just luck.

The first time I opened it, I also pulled a huge dust bunny from the fan. The rest of the insides were pretty clean and dust free. I blew everything out anyway.

Before this started happening, the machine was having some weirdness waking up after hibernating.

The problem happens sometimes after I shut it down properly and sometimes not. It's also booted up fine after a crash.

I've tried setting all the power controls to everything always on and leaving the computer on. But sometime in the middle of the night, it powers down. (I don't know whether this is a gentle power down or if it just shuts off instantly.)

The last time, it wouldn't start for a couple days and then I tried... Read more

A:My Documents boots, Explorer.exe doesn't.

Hi -

"Explorer.exe" is probably in thousands of registry keys in English, binary and hex form. Not knowing how Explorer got this way makes finding a fix all that more difficult. I have a feeling that you may have done additional damage with the registry cleaner(s). I will just say that you really never need to "clean" the registry unless instructed to do so. They are not errors that were "fixed", rather lost file associations that account for about 0.1% of the total registry keys.

If the registry cleaning was not to long ago, it is likely that you still have a system restore point on hand and can restore the system back to that time. I suggest that you do so. Then run the system file checker/ repair utility - SFC and see if it helps with Explorer.

START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select run as Administrator | the black command prompt ("DOS") screen will appear | type the following:

sfc /scannow
Upon completion re-boot to allow files in use to be repaired.

Okay, I've fiddled with this for a while now, a couple days ago when I turned on the computer I would get an error message saying how system/config (something like that) was corrupt. I then googled this and did not really find a solution for it. Almost all of the people that encountered this problem did not know where the source of the problem was. I figure I would give reformatting a shot. After formatting, I figure that I can now use my computer with no worries about more problems but then now different problems appeared.

When I turn on the computer sometimes it would boot up nicely with no problems at all but sometimes it would not boot. The computer hangs right before the windows xp flag appears with the loading bar under it. What I see instead is a different loading bar (DOS style) that spans the entire width of my screen. I thought maybe this was just a problem with my installation of XP, so then I go and boot into my Ubuntu installation (I use grub bootloader and the two OS's are on their own partitions on the same physical drive) and the Ubuntu freezes at the loading screen as well. I went through testing each component of my computer afterwards.

I figure that my processor should be okay since I managed to get this far while loading the computer (I could be totally wrong on this part). I also tested the RAM with memtest86+ that was on the Ubuntu disc. I finished one pass with no errors so I guess the memory is okay. The graphics card should also be okay si... Read more

I'm kind of stuck here...

First what happened: last night my computer froze so I turned it off and then back on. However, when I did, the monitor just remained in standby as if the computer was not on. Everything on the computer seems to be working ok (fans going, lights on, etc). I also don't hear any beeps during the startup.

I've been browsing a lot of forums trying to figure out what is wrong, but I'm somewhat lost. I don't know that much about computers...
It seems some of these forums say the main culprits for a problem like this are the graphics card or the motherboard? Is this true?

I have tried using another monitor on the computer. Same problem. I have also tried using my main monitor on another computer and it works fine.

I have been running this setup for almost 2 years, and nothing has been changed recently...

Hi to all. For some reason my XP OS is able to boot up, but instead of taking me to the regular boot up screen, with the icons and the click and password screen, I'm instead taken to a all black page with a little box in the middle where it says to type in user name and password. I am running windows xp home edition sp2. Then when I type in my user name and password, I am able to see my current background but nothing else loads up, and then I get a pop up saying that some .exe file has an error and thats all. I press ok and then all I get is my background with nothing loading up. I've waited 2 hours and still nothing loads, I put CDs, external hard drives, and pressed what ever you can think of, ex. alt+ctrl+delete, still nothing. Please help me, I will stay on the forums to answer any required questions you have. THANK YOU so much.

I've been fighting this problem for months and haven't found an answer anywhere but maybe you guys can help. My computer seems to boot fine, but nothing is displayed on the monitor. The power light on the monitor ON button just blinks amber. If I wait a minute or so and then hit the reset button the computer reboots and the monitor comes on. The computer started doing this about 6 months after I built it. Once in a great while it will boot up on the first try, but it's very rare. I was thinking video card, but have unseated and reseated it a couple of times to no avail. I also got a new battery on the motherboard thinking it was having a problem. Now I'm thinking power supply or BIOS - any ideas?

2.8Ghz Intel p4
Radeon 9600 pro
ASUS p4p800 MB
1 GB of Micron ram
QMAX 350W power supply

Thanks in advance for any help.

Im having the exact same problem with my computer but it doesnt happen as often as with you. Im guessing its some fault with the card or with Windows.

I would greatly appreciate help with my problem. My PC, an Acer Aspire AM5641-U5630A with Windows Vista, only starts up sometimes. When I press the power button, the blue power light comes on and the fans start sounding. However, after it quiets down there is no beeping noises and a display does not come on. On times in which the computer does turn on, a beeping noise is heard and an Acer logo display comes on before it proceeds to start up like normal. Once I'm past the Acer logo the computer works fine. It seems to be random as to when it powers up but I have tried an upwards of 20 restarts before.

A:Computer only boots up sometimes, power light on if it doesn't

This is most likely caused by a weak or failing power supply. Open up the case and make sure that the fans are running and everything is free of heavy dust and other debris...

Daughter brought her HP DV9500 (Vista 32bit). Very suspicious of malware. If I check the BIOS, it does not see the hard drive (nor does that option appear in the boot menu). However, if you boot the machine, it will load Vista and allow you to log in. After about 10-30 seconds usage, the keyboard and mouse buttons freeze and what was on the screen still remains with that bloody awful circle going round and round. Now the mouse will still move across the screen via the touchpad or a usb mouse but the keyboard is dead as are the mouse buttons.I can boot parted magic on UBCD and access all the files on the C: drive (one physical, three partitions including a recovery partition - how it came from the factory) and run all day long. Disk diagnostics on UBCD show the hard drive is present and no errors. However, the bios diagnostic says replace the hard drive.I've rebuilt the BCD using Microsofts bootrec to no avail.I'm trying to get it sane enough to offload 4 years worth of pictures, music, and classwork, etc. and then I'll try restoring the OS from the recovery partition.I should mention that I ran an older Linux bootable version of Avira (dated Sept 2009) and it noted multiple occurrences of html/infected.webpage.gen as well as two other (going to try to recover the names from the Avira logfile). Thanks in advance.AJG

A:Help please laptop bios doesn't see HD but vista still boots

I'm trying to get it sane enough to offload 4 years worth of pictures, music, and classwork, etc.No need to bother trying to get Windows to work well enough: Simply retrieve copies of the files that you want, to a USB-connected external hard drive using a Linux operating system run from a bootable CD/DVD or USB flashdrive.f your computer is not able to boot into Windows or simply not able to access the internet, you can use a LIVE Linux operating system run from a bootable CD or flashdrive instead of Windows, to access the internet, to access files on the HDD(s) and do other tasks. Using a working computer:If you wish to use a LIVE CD ...

I've noticed lately that my 2600k cpu doesn't idle. In other words, when the cpu should be idling(cpu cycles near 0%)it shows as high as 50% and over in my CPU Usage gadget. Recently I installed Uniblue Driver Scanner(newest version). I don't remember this problem happening at that time. The graph looks like it "pulses" every 5 seconds or so. Just to see if it was affecting anything, I uninstalled Driver Scanner. I've looked at my Processes and Services but was unable to tell what was stressing the cpu. Can someone give me an idea? Sorry If this in the wrong forum.

A:What tools are used to determine why a cpu doesn't idle?

basic check

Start "Task Manager" go to Processes Tab, set it to show processes from all users and click the column header for the CPU.

If you monitor this the highest CPU users will show at the top of the list, which you should be able to trace back to an application using the description

I just built this pc and the Western Digital 160 Sata hard drive isn't recognized in the bios but it will boot from it sometimes. I had to restart it 4-5 times this morning to get it to boot. I'm running winxp, ASUS A7N8X mobo, I had to get a SATA controller card to run this drive. I overlooked that this mobo doesn't have SATA connectors. My mistake and I couldn't return the hard drive because I had already opened the package. I upgraded the bios to no avail and now I'm at a complete loss. Need help. Thanks.

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. For the past few months I've been plagued with something called Real Spy Monitor. Only System MEchanic can find it and delete it but it keeps coming back. And no, my husband isn't spying on me. Heh. Anyhow, I got PC Tools Spyware doctor in a google pack download. Just wanted the search engine for IE but somehow, I got PC Tools too. I figured I'd use it's SCAN feature and it found something called Trojan Virtumonde. I selected "remove" but it wasn't removed cause I did another scan a few minutes later and it showed up again. Then I removed it again and scanned a third time and the scan result was clean. Anyhow, got another trojan at 5:30am Saturday morning (crap) from clicking a link on a website. Avast caught that one and I moved it to the chest and then deleted it. But something of it was left behind. And afterwards, AVast was prevented from updating. Also Spywareguard couldn't update. (is this too much detail?) Anyhow, ddayv.exe and ddayv.dll were in my system32 folder created at 5:30am Saturday morning so I knew it was connected. I downloaded Vundofix.exe and it found about 6 files but couldn't get rid of one of them and froze my PC. (I finally got out of the freeze and got rid of the file in safemode). Still couldn't update Avast though so I finally reformatted the hard drive (destructive restore) to start fresh. After the reformat and reinstall of a bunch of programs, Real spy monitor was back on... Read more

I've recently erased & reformated my brother's Notebook, & put a clean install of Vista on the machine (the disk which came w/the computer). I went to the mfg'er's website (Gateway) & updated all of it's driver's. Now when i update Vista & allow the machine to restart, it idles without loading any drivers. It simply stays there w/a black screen. Also, MSCONFIG refuses to save any of the changes i make to it.

The notebook is in great condition. Was wondering if anyone knew of something beyond a workaround? I would my brother to be using this w/Vista automatically updating itself (aka restarting without issue).
Thanks in advance to anyone who responds. I really do appreciate it greatly.

Hi...I'm not sure where to put this request, thought since the Dell Inspiron 15 is running Windows 10 (including latest update) that there might be a conflict between the desktop and the keyboard down in the nuts and bolts somewhere. I can turn the machine on, the capslock light comes on, SOMETIMES the keyboard works well enough to input the pin to get the desktop booted up. Sometimes I have to go through steps to get the touch screen keyboard up in order to input the pin. However, as soon as the desktop is active, the keyboard no longer works. I've updated the drivers, don't know what else to do. When I try a search online for a solution, I get differing ideas on how to solve the problem. I've tried resetting the BIOS to default settings, that didn't work. Any and all help will be much appreciated. I really need the keyboard to be working, my kids do their homework on my laptop.

Thanks in advance for any help.

My kids PC wouldn't boot. i replaced the HD with an old 1 i had. It booted fine, right to windows that was on the HD already. After i restarted it wouldn't boot anymore. VIRUS. ok fine. Problem now is that during to boot process it wont see the HD. If i go into the bios and leave it on Auto select for where the HD is it'll show, but it takes about 30seconds to do so. I cant boot with a start-up disk either, for some reason it wont. i changed boot sequences unpluged things nothing will work. I cant flash the bios becuase it wont read for the A drive. I cant get a A: or a C: prompt. the only thing i can get is a BOOT FAILURE ERROR.
the system is a PII 400, 13gig western digital HD, 128mb ram, Asus p3v133 motherboard. win98

I have everything set to the correct master/slave settings ( i tried a bunch of different combs of them. ) i'm lost. i've done all i can. now i need help. thx

I've got a computer infected by System Tools (apparently) and I've tried to clean it using the method described in the link below, but it did not work.

(I had all the same symptoms as described but maybe I am facing a variant or more resistant version...)

What happened is that when entering the safe mode, after a while the screen goes black and then the pc reboot in normal mode... this scenario is not identified in the procedure above...

At some point I had the following message: could not load or run 'C:\users\janee\appdata\local\temp\csess.ex.' specified in the registry. make sure the files exits on your computer or remove the reference to in in th registry
then a button "ok"

After another reboot strangely the symptoms disappeared but I had detections of following viruses in McAfee: Generic BackDoor!cze in the file c:\users\janee\appdata\roaming\microsoft\conhost.exe

The file was deleted. What to do next?

I will post the GMER and DDS logs tomorrow.

A:Cleaning of System Tools malware doesn't go according toplan

Shall i run RKILL in Normal Mode from a USB stick? Would that work?

What is the best way to proceed? Note the user (my girlfriend) is quite IT illiterate and I am helping her remotely from another computer... (using TeamViewer and another computer in her house)

I have remotely loaded for her a USB stick with all the latest usual tools (MBAM, MBAM rules, HiJackThis, clean hosts, hosts-perm.bat, GMER, DDS, RKUnhookerLE.EXE) but my capacity for direct action is quite limited since the infected computer is not online for now (no more internet).

Hi Windows Seven Forums,
I'm walking through what should be a very easy FTP server install from the Windows 7 Features. This walkthrough is great...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrzNPq-B6Ts

Unfortunately, when I click on:

Control Panel
Programs and Features
Turn Windows features on or off
Internet Information Services plus sign
FTP server plus sign
FTP Extensibility check box is clicked which highlights all FTP server check boxes
Click OK.
Microsoft Windows then says Please wait while Windows makes changes to features. This might take several minutes.

Once installed, I click on:
Control Panel
Administrative Tools (click on View by: Large icons if you can't see Administrative Tools)
...and no Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager?

I have restarted the PC and removed unchecked the FTP server and restarted...what's happened?

A:FTP server doesn't show in control panel, administrative tools?

It looks like when clicking the
Web Management Tools and
World Wide Web Services
aswell, that FTP Server comes up. Fixed.
