YOGA 710 14IKB Screen flicker

Q: YOGA 710 14IKB Screen flicker

Hello.I purchased this lenovo laptop about 8 months ago. Over the last 4 or so months i have been having a persistent issue of screen flickering. The entire screen flickers regardless of what program may be in use. Initially i had thought it was related to either a software (like chrome or flash) and it seemd like everytime i shut those programs the problem would go away. I have updated all drivers and BIOS. Recently i noticed that this problem can be reproduced on pressing or tapping the area above the keybaord close the where the screen hinges are which led me to think this may be a hardware issue. I have not damaged this laptop ever and it has been kept in very good condition. How shall I proceed. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have been having this problem since I purchased. Yoga 710 screen flickers very often, sometimes it scares the hell out of me. Feeling going to lose the laptop. Because of constant travel, missed to extend warranty. Here is the history. 1. Within few months, because of flickering I ended up getting a vertical dead pixel line. Luckily, warranty covered it and replaced with a new screen. However flickering came back on. 2. Tried all solutions - BIOS, system update, changes in Vantage (adaptive display brightness etc). Nothing worked. Now I am out of warranty. Having spent all this money, find so many users with the same problem and lenovo's silence - just speaks volumes about their business model. Ethics is dead. Will never every buy lenovo again.  B

Hi all,  I've got a Lenovo Yoga 520 that I purchased on 6th May 2018, so pretty new!  I've been experiencing a very unusual issue: screen flicker. This includes artifacts, pieces of the UI getting repeated, black lines and full flashes of the entire screen (not just a single app). It seems to happen mainly in Chrome with certain websites, but I've also experienced it with Edge when testing. When you minimise the app that's open when it starts the main issues go away, leaving a slight flickering/wavey effect on the display. Reopening the app causes the issue to start again. It is difficult to reproduce this issue. I did a little and the results were unusual: today I was working in Chrome and had a display issue appear. I switched tabs until it became less apparent. Then I plugged the laptop into an external display. Then I wobbled the laptop display back and forth a little bit, and realised that doing so made the flicker more intense. However, when switching to a different app, such as Edge or Explorer, or even just minimising Chrome, the issue went away completely. Opening Chrome back up, or simply hovering over it in the Windows task bar to get the preview to fill the screen, immediately caused screen flicker. The flicker was subdued when not moving the screen. At the same time no issues with black screen or artifacts were visible on the external mirrored (HDMI) display.  At first I thought that the screen movement ... Read more

Hi,      I bought my Lenovo YOGA 530-14IKB 3 months back, it worked fine, but I started to notice that bottom right quarter of the touch screen is not working, It is working when screen is at exact 90 degrees in laptop mode but when I tilt the screen back by some 10-15 degrees the bottom right part of the touch screen is not working. The lenovo pen is working fine on this section of screen. Facing same issue in tablet mode also. I don't think this is software issue, maybe the connection at the  hinge got screwed up. The laptop is still under warranty. All the Drivers are up to date. Can I get a replacement if I go to service center or is this a software issue which can be solved ?

A:Re: Yoga 2 Pro screen flicker

I just received my fourth Y2P (gave one working one to a family member and sent one back to BB and one direct to Lenovo).  So far all the issues that plagued the other two units I returned are not present on this machine.  I'm a happy camper!  However, there is one issue that is starting to drive me nuts.  I love to read in bed at night with the screen dimmed down to the lowest setting.  On the other three Y2P's I hated that the screen brightness wouldn't go dim enough for my preference (I am more sensitive to bright light than most people) even at the lowest setting.  And I found it odd that you could dim the screen down till it turned off completely (basically making the F9 special function key a complete waste of a key).  However, on this new computer, the screen can dim down much lower than the first three I owned and I can't accidentally use the brightness down key to turn the screen off.  The lowest setting is very low; almost too dim for reading in a pitch black room.  I'm very happy that Lenovo allowed for a much lower brightness setting but there is a major problem - the screen flickers at the lowest three settings.  It's not extremely noticeable but it's definitely there.  Sometimes it's really noticeable, sometimes it's very subtle.  It's easiest to notice when you're scrolling through webpages or as you slowly scroll down as you read text.  It's as if the screen dims as you scroll and the... I have owned my Lenovo Yoga 900 series for nearly 6 months now.  Yet, recently, every few minutes or so, my computer screen flickers and looks as if a virus is "glitching" my screen.  In other words, the screen flickers and goes black, then turns on again.  Luckily, nothing on the notebook is harmed internally or beyond just the screen turning on and off.  But, this is a very concerning and irritating problem to have.  I am not sure how to assess this issue or how to fix it but would appreciate some advice. Best,Jake

I know there are some forum post about this issue, but I have had a nearly continues issue with screen flicker below 30% brightness with my Yoga 2 Pro. It is not a software issue, current video drivers, bios ect power managment has adaptive turned off and power save mode is off on the Intel Drivers. Here is my story and I am hoping Lenovo can make it right. I am a long time consumer of IBM and Lenovo products, my prior Laptop is a T410 which has never had an issue and I still use it to this day. I purchased my first Yoga 2 Pro and right off bat noticed the screen flicker issue on low brightness so I sent it off to the depot for repair, they swapped the motherboard and sent the device back with the screen flicker issue still happening. So again the device was sent off to the depot and this time the screen was replaced and again came back with the flicker issue still existing. I was then sent a replacement unit and right out of the box it has the low brightness flicker issue, but this time a BIOS update did the trick. Now fast forward 3 months and the issue is back and off to the depot it goes again, where it has sat for a week waiting on parts. I have no faith that the device will come back repaired or when it will even get to me with the parts hold, I have hardly used this device in fact the newest unit still has some of the protective plastic.  Lenovo needs to recognize that the low brightness issue is happening to a lot of individuals and provi... Hey, I have a Yoga Pro 2.  After I upgraded to Windows 10, the screen will be fine for awhile, and then it will suddenly start flickering, turning black for a second or two, then the screen coming back on briefly, then back off, on and on for as long as 30 seconds.  I try to switch applications to see if I can kick it out of this mode, and maybe that works or maybe it just fixes itself eventually.  I have video of this happening, if anyone wants to see it. I took it to a Microsoft Store, and they were baffled, thinking it was graphics driver, but noticing that I had the most current graphics driver installed. What's up with this? Thanks, Eric

Dear all, I am looking a solution for the following issue for Yoga 510-14IKB Laptop having generic PnP monitor (MONITOR\CMN14B1).  I found several facts:1. The screen flickers extremely after even I touch the keyboard, turning on the windows in high contrast mode (black or white does not matter).2. The screen flickers sometimes when scrolling through certain pages (searching the internet, word documents)3. When plugged via HDMI cable to TV, flickering continued only on the laptop display!4. Flickering is not happening in BIOS, but immediately after showing windows login screen. As for drivers: All updated, all tried, all checked through Lenovo online diagnostics even display and everything is correct. Display drivers reinstalled, display drivers checked. I have tried to change auto-brightness options, turning off display drivers for both graphics cards, windows reinstalled 3-times through one key recovery and even through regular factory settings recovery.  As for power supply options: Does not matter if I am on power or battery. And NO changing intel graphics power options does not work at all. Please, any help welcomed. I have no idea what to do. My only guess is, that the power distribution is damaged, or the cable connected to display is messed up.

The only flickering/anomalies you will notice is from the camera limitaitons on my smarthpone.-2nd picture is where the issue is clear in the picture and morso with the naked eye. These humps become very noticeble when you view the screen from a side angle.-3rd picture is just to emphasize the outline on these humps which are more visable from what can be captured on my camera. Also, these anomalies stretch on the uppers side of the screen as well. Can anyone tell me what these are? If I should worry? If they are normal or of they will get worse, and if I should take the notebook the a lenovo shop to change something on the desplay? Thank you for your time!

So, my screen cracked and i sent my laptop to squaretrade, who fixed it. I just got it back and was hoping to draw, but my pen wont work on my screen. I downloaded the most recent driver i could find and restarted my laptop and still, no progress. Restarting wacom services also doesnt do anything. In dveice manager, i cant even find wacom listed anywhere. To add onto that, when i touch the screen, its saying my touch is not where it actually is. Its locating my touch as about an inch to the left, and half an inch up from where my finger actually is.  Im pretty sure my drivers are all up to date, i updated my laptop a while ago to see if that fixed the issue. It seems like they replaced my screen with the right one too. When i first turned on my laptop after getting it, it seemed like the technician had downloaded some files onto my computer, and i assume they were drivers. The folder and files are shown in the screenshot. didnt know if maybe he installed one of these and it was somehow messing with my touchscreen.  completely lost. unsure what the issue is, and have no idea where to ask for help, so here I am. My laptop is a Lenovo yoga/ideapad flex 6-14IKB, version 10.0.17134 Build 17134

Can you go to Intel graphics control panel, press big power button, and then go to "on battery" tab. Is "Panel self refresh" option enabled? If it is then disable it. This option makes the panel consume less power, gives better battery life, but it has exact symptoms every now and then. If you have stock Yoga graphics driver installed then download the newest one from Intel, install it and disable this option. To install the new driver you'll have to uninstall the old one, otherwise it won't allow you to install the new one. To uninstall it go to Device manager, display driver properties, uninstall driver button. If this doesn't work then I wouldn't know, probably is a hardware issue and better to try to get a replacement.

Hey everyone! I recently received my new lenovo yoga 530 (only 6 days ago), after 2-3 days of use I noticed a weird flicker on my screen. Vertical lines on my screen sometimes briefly flicker on a specific part of my screen. This flicker is very fast and sporadic so I haven't been able to get a picture of it. I have updated all my drivers to their latest versions. I can't seem to reproduce it and can't seem to find a particular pattern in this flicker either. The stance of the screen doesn't seem to affect the frequency either in any noticable way. Although I vaguely feel it happens more often in tablet mode and when watching videos. The flicker is instantaneous, the lines are black and white, it's as if those columns of pixels briefly stop working for a split second (vertical artifacts on screen). This flicker of those lines happens only a couple of times and then the screen is back to normal. To me it is unclear if I'm dealing with a hardware or software problem. I've already contacted the retail seller because I'd rather not wait until the problem becomes more severe. But I was hoping if some people here have some more insight or experience with a similar problem. Thanks in advance!

Hello. My screen has since first month flickered and gone black.Sometime a small press on top of the screen will do the trick, but as soon as I release it it normally goes black again.Unfortunately I am working abroad on ships and is in need of my computer daily. That has forced me to check various fixes online, and I have done following to have it running.1. Opened up and retighted the screws that holds the motherboard, this helped for some time.2. Fiddled with the connector that connects the touch screen to the mother board. At first this seemed to be the solution, and i built up with some vulk tape to press at the connector when I attached back the bottom cover.3. After a few days the flickering started again, and it was harder to "restore" it back by pressing the connector. Found out that if pressing slightly from both sides in lower left or right corner stopped the flickering/fading and screen returned to normal state. So for now I have a binder clip mounted over screen and backside in lower left corner. This is the solution for this problem, however just a temporary one...For me this seems like some kind of grounding issue. Could you please advise what I need to do for get this screen in a proper working condition. Wbr

After applying the update 7QCN41WW from Lenovo Vantage advice, the touch screen seem dead now. I've also updated all the drivers it suggested me. I can see the touch screen in the list of devices and followed all the guides possible on this forum like disabling/enabling the device, removing and rebooting. I even enabled the downgrade in BIOS and flashed the previos BIOS version 7QCN38WW (fortunately, all the installed versions are stored on C:\BIOS), but no luck! It works with the pen, but not with fingers. One other thing to consider - I've also updated some of the software that Lenovo Vantage suggested me as well as the drivers. I used to trust Lenovo - not something I'll continue to do........ Anything else I can try? It is still on the warranty but I cannot stay without a laptop for a month of "diagnostics" and have the drive wiped out after the service.

Hi, I have the same problem with my Yoga 730. I bought it in October 2018, from Chicago. After a few months, the touch screen stopped working. I didn't have time so I waited and got it fixed only last month, before the expiry of the warranty. It was covered under warranty. The warranty expired on 25th October, and I got it fixed on 8th October. After a month, on 15th of November, the screen started flickering. The brightness was going up and down on its own. I took it to the service center the same day, they kept the laptop and today on 18th, they sent me a mailing quoting the price of 8500 for repairing of cable. The person who took my laptop in the service center explained that since the screen rotates, the cable might have a problem, and that what it was, the cable had a problem!Of course, I did my research on it and turns out that there are many consumers like me who are facing problems like this. Because I am a student/researcher and I have traded off with Macbook to buy this model of Lenevo, I am highly disappointed. I have two basic points to state, one being that you have engineered a high-end product, where consumers are facing similar problems so much so that it has now become a pattern, yet your brand is taking no responsibility for it. If you cannot come up with better products just don't even try but don't make fool out of consumers. Secondly, since it hasn't even been a year that I have made two trips to the service center, it gets unacceptable as it can get whe... Read more

HI! I have seen a lot of posts regarding various bluescreen / screen flicker problems on Yoga 260 ThinkPad and some other models related to lifting the open PC on battery in the leftmost corner. This had been bugging me quite a bit as I really like the PC and I finally managed to work around the problem which i guess is a combo of the small piece of plastic under the RAM not staying in place and the battery being a little to "sloppy" for the mount. his is what I did. 1. I duct-taped the plastic behind the ram t stay in place. 2. I put a bevel of duct-tape beneath the battery to suppot it when pressuered upon. 3. Taped an old credit card (in fact an old card to the gym - this way I found a use for it to the battery to support it. 4. Make sure this thing properly clicks into place before securing the battery again (don't worry about the third screw on the battery - it goes through the  back of the cover).  That's was it for me! Nothing duct tape cannot solve

Hi everyone.

I've been doing research on this all day, what I thought would be a quick job has turned into a big headache.

Like many of you, I updated to Windows 10 and my screen immediately started flickering. It only happens when I'm on battery power when the battery starts getting low. I found a forum post on the Intel website that had been answered by Intel support. It directed me to remove my graphics display drivers, reboot and download/install the updated driver. At this point I have attempted to install 5 different Intel Windows 10 64 bit drivers and have gotten a message on my screen that says MY DEVICE DOESN'T MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS. So now I have no graphic display driver at all.

My questions are, which exact driver do I need and will that fix the flickering problem?

Thank you for your help!

This is a tough one. Two Yoga 2 Pros here, both on Windows 10. Neither one is being used much now with one replaced with a 910 and the a 920. However... when both were in use, one had the flicker problems and the other did not. Now the flicker wasn't constant. What would happen is that the display would flicker, go off and then come back on. I tried everything, using the display drivers that Microsoft Update suggested, using the drives from Lenovo Site and letting Intel scan and suggest drivers. My question to you: Are you on an Insider build?

After applying the update 7QCN41WW from Lenovo Vantage advice, the touch screen seem dead now. Anything else I can try? It is still on the warranty but I cannot stay without a laptop for a month of "diagnostics" and have the drive wiped out after the service.

Hi.  I have a problem with my yoga 710 in tablet mode. The on screen keyboard just pops up and goes away after a secound.  Some say its a problem with Chrome. But the problems also occurs when i try to log in to windows in tablet mode. The keyboard pops up, and goes away so i cant type my passcode. If i flip the pc out of tablet mode and opens the onscreen keybord by pushing on it on the taskbar it stays open. Someone know how to fix this?

Good morning! I wonder if anyone else has either experienced or solved the issue I am currently having with my Yoga 710. I looked for similar postings that may have solved this issue but did not find them so if I missed it, I apologize.  After visiting the IT help desk at my university several times as certain programs such as Spotify desktop, Zoom, Skype, SPSS Amos Graphics (a statistical modeling program) would open but display a black screen, the technicians realized that the Intel 520 Graphics Driver appeared to cause an issue once it advanced past a particular version of the software. They rolled back the graphics driver and everything was working great until last night my computer wanted to update Windows 10 which automatically updated the graphics driver and eliminated the option to roll back to a previous version of the graphics driver. Now I can't use a significant number of the programs on my laptop.  I could rollback the Windows update but that doesn't seem helpful overall. It seems silly to keep having to roll back the graphics driver when the Windows update seems to be forcing it to be more up-to-date. On an Intel forum it seems like Intel is saying that Lenovo has tested it and says everything is OK, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  Any ideas or links to solutions would be most appreciated! Best wishesMandy

New Yoga 700 11. Screen flickers continuously after returning from sleep. Stops after a reboot. Problem started right after unboxing and remains after running Windows Update. Windows now at version 1511. Intel HD Graphics driver now at 20.19.15.4300. Searching for Intel HD Graphics driver updates from Device Manager doesn't detect anything -- though I see the Intel site has a 15.40.14.4352 version that claims to address screen flicker. Automated brightness management is off. The laptop is plugged in, so battery power saving shouldn't be a factor. Question for the community: can I install the 4352 driver from the Intel site? Or do I have to wait for Lenovo to add special OEM features to the stock Intel driver?

I have been suffering with the screen flicker mentioned in a number of other posts.  However I have had the sense that it was not related to hardware.  The reason being that any moving of the screen or tapping of the screen joint would not cause any change in the flciker. I took the back off and tried the fix that is shown on YouTube but then a few days later the same issue was apparent. Then I caught that it seems to be related to Firefox.  A tab for BBC news had the flicker, a different tab did not. It also seemed to be related to only a section of the webpage that was open, as scrolling would stop the flciker.  Chrome on the same page did not flicker.  Even in window mode the Firefox tab flickered and would do so with Task Manager open. All drivers are current and all software up to date. I turned off the Hardware acceleration in Firefox and the tab was fine after.  That said I have seen the issue in another app so I wonder if it is a fault with using the video memory sharing or something like that.  Either way I wish Lenovo would be more proactive in trying to resolve the issue.

I've recently (13th of April) bought new Yoga 530-14IKB. It has adequate CPU i3-8130U, which is faster than i5-6200U in my sister's Acer laptop, but I anyway don't play any games. Despite that, its battery life isn't good. It works about 3-3,5 hours in Chrome. In task manager I've noticed that Yoga Mode Control is constantly using 15-30% CPU and its battery usage is described as very high. After disabling it, I can't switch to the tablet mode and keyboard and touchpad don't turn off. Is there somebody who has Yoga laptop and experience similar problem?

Hey. I bought my Yoga 520-14IKB (Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256gb NVMe SSD, GeForce 940MX) 2 month ago, had no problems, till last week. Now sometimes i experience such a strange behaviour. Mainly i work on my laptop in normal mode, and sometimes, during such work, it can false trigger a tablet mode for a few (2-3) seconds (notification appers), which causes the keyboard to switch off for this time, despite the fact, that it still stands as a normal laptop, not even close to position, which triggers the yoga mode. How can i fix this? System is Windows 10 April 2018 Update, have all the latest drivers and latest version of BIOS.

Hello!I am trying to find out if DisplayPort is supported on the following two models: - Yoga 710-14IKB (80V4003LMX)- Yoga 900S-12ISK (80ML000RMX) I need to drive UHD TVs (4K at 60fps) and various high resolution displays using DisplayPort (HDMI 1.4 only supports 4K at low refresh rates).  It seems to be difficult find out looking through the documentation provided by Lenovo. I have come across some info though: Yoga 710-14IKB:The documentation on  http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/yoga/700-series/yoga-710-14/#80V4000GUS under "Ports" states that: "Micro HDMI?""DisplayPort? (combo with HDMI?)" This indeed seems to indicate that DisplayPort is supported, but I cannot find any info on how this works. - Is DisplayPort supported by the Yoga 710?- If so, what kind of adapter is needed, and where can this be found? Yoga 900S-12ISK:This machine has an USB-C "USB 3.0 port with Video-out". I have found a Lenovo USB-C to HDMI Adaptor-NA (GX90K37871):    https://www.cnet.com/products/lenovo-usb-c-to-hdmi-adapter-external-video-adapter/specs/but so far I have not seen any USB-C to DisplayPort adapter from Lenovo. When an USB-C port has video capabilities, it is usually DisplayPort available (I have seen reviews of Yoga 900S that this actually is the case for the Yoga 900S. - Is DisplayPort supported by the Yoga 900s?- If so, what kind of adapter is needed, and where can this be found?&n...
