Why is there no "SEARCH OPTION" in the Windows Store? Apps missing be nice if I could find them !

Q: Why is there no "SEARCH OPTION" in the Windows Store? Apps missing be nice if I could find them !

Since on this journey from Win 8 consumer preview to Win 8 retail preview ..And no currently trying out Win 8 Pro...It verified if it was gonna give me back ( allowed to re-download ) the apps I was used/had in previous editions. The Store gives you
a selection of YOU APPS from previous versions of the OS preview of apps you installed and currently would want to reinstall. Various versions of the Consumer preview I installed 2 out the 4 times i installed the OS seen I had installed the app Comixology.
When the first time I installed Retail preview it didn't have it in my list nor was it listed in the store! Same goes with Iheart Radio and Slacker Radio though numerous installments of the OS. Now trying out the Win 8 Pro 9200 version It showed I at
one point no matter what PC I used ( I own a few and bought a new one recently ) It showed at one point I installed Comixology. Yet it didn't show Iheart Radio or Slacker in my install list of old to reinstall nor was it even in the Store!!!! \\\So
what the hell gives ????? I mean If there was a SEARCH Option it would make it easier to track these Metro ( whatever they are calling it now -personally I think they should call it FRAMES as in Window Frames :P When you go on these
programs sites they only offer up Apple or Android app downloads and nothing mentioning of Metro or Win 8 -which is understandable due to not being released yet but still if the Store can't comply with your history of app install base ( paid or free ) and
you can't have the ability to retrieves said apps you once installed how can that be trusted if and when paid apps are bought if you are only to reinstall the entire OS and find that your app is not obtainable via offered through the main store or even in
your downloads app install history. I hope they fix this issue as it's been pissing me off since this whole testing thing!!

Preferred Solution: Why is there no "SEARCH OPTION" in the Windows Store? Apps missing be nice if I could find them !

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Why is there no "SEARCH OPTION" in the Windows Store? Apps missing be nice if I could find them !

You can search! Go to Windows Store, bring up the Charms menu (Win+C) and press Search.

You can also just start typing when you are on the start menu and then choose to search in the Store.Blogging about Windows for IT pros at

This is a resurection of an old unresolved Vista Post, and it also happens in Windows 7.
Original subject - Start Menu - program search issue
I use Windows Mail for my daily email tasks, and would like to be able to
open the program by using the vista search bar built into the start menu. The
problem is, when i search for "mai" it brings up Windows Mail, and I can hit
enter and load the program. However, when I search for "mail", it returns:
"No items match your search." I have it set to index both the start menu and
my programs directory, and have even tried to rebuild the index.

It seems kind of strange that Vista would recognize that when I type "mai" I
want my mail programs, but when I actually type "mail", it gets confused...
and this in turn has -me- confused.
Oh thank goodness, I've finally found someone else with the same problem.
The word I have issues with is "photo" ("phot" works great, but no results
for "photo"). Not a show-stopper, but WHY!?

I've noticed the same thing with Windows Desktop Search in Windows 7. After some experimenting I think I have the reason why, but not a fix.

It seems to em that mail and photo are probably used as "kind =" prefixes in Windows search, and even if you enter photo with out ... Read more

If you go to the Windows Store and right click, you'll get a Your Apps option. I would like to reset it, or at least delete some apps from the list. I tried a couple once and now they are in the list. I likely won't ever use them again so they are just cluttering up the screen and making it hard to find the ones I do want to reinstall/keep on another PC or reinstall at a later date. Google didn't turn anything up, and I didn't see anything in the tutorials section. Hopefully somebody can help.

As you know, the Open-Save-Cancel dialog box helps you prevent your computer from affecting by virus while downloading.

However, since you can normally download the other documents, I suspect there is some restriction in the website which you are trying to view. I recommend you to contact the administrator of that website if possible.

I posted this on the Microsoft forums as well, but I have yet to find a solution on Google....

The title pretty much says it all. I am trying to use PS Media Server with Windows 8.1, but honestly whatever app I am using is irrelevant. The problem is, when I try to connect my PS3 to PS3 Media Server, it seems to require me to go into the right side menu, click settings, then change PC settings, then click network and then under connections, click my network connection and turn on "Find Devices and Content"

However, as you can see from my screen shot, that option is missing.

I am on my PERSONAL laptop, connected to a private network (it doesn't matter if I use my wireless or wired connection direct to the router it doesn't show up either way). I have tried enabling and leaving a homegroup, neither of which works.

Windows 8.1 has been a giant disappointment thus far, and this just adds fuel to the fire.

Hey Guys-
I'm on Vista 64bix, running most current version of WMP 11.

I am trying to get more information on an album, but when I right click on it the option is not there. My media is on a Network share, which is a known problem in WMP. They put out a HotFix on it- which is supposed to correct the issue:

HOWEVER- when I try to install this, it says 'The Update does not apply to this system'

This generally happens when an update is already installed. However, I have triple checked- it is NOT installed on my machine. I am positive I am using the correct update file as well (64bit for Vista).

Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm EXTREMELY frustrated.

I tried using the native My Pictures folder on the C: drive, by to no avail.

A:HELP! I Can't Find The "Set As Desktop Wallpaper" Option.

Hi Son of Spam !

The proper way to set a picture as wallpaper is to use the display properties : right-click an unused place of the desktop and click properties (or go to control panel => display). Go to the desktop tab and click browse to select the wallpaper file.

The "set as wallpaper" function is not a default function of Windows but is added by some other program. If the program is not installed then the option is not there.

Also, when I start the computer the red box that says "welcome to Mcafee" and which version you're running and stuff stopped appearing. I accessed the on access scan through program files and it told me that the on access scanner was enabled and working so I wasn't too fussed that it didn't appear.

Now, yesterday my computer went weird. The "run" option on the start menu disappeared and so did the "Turn Off Computer" red button. Both of them just disappeared. Task manager was also unavailable. When I pressed Ctrl, Alt and delete a box just popped up and said something like "task manager has been disabled by your administrator". I'm not sure what I did.. few days ago.. in my half sleep I was trying to delete few files using Shift+Del .. but my mistake it looks like I deleted or removed the Desktop option from the left menu or Hierarchy tree (don't know what exactly to call it), as it got selected some how.

just a screenshot, hopefully this gives a better explanation than my wording:

I'm unable to see the option in the drop down address bar either. I've been forced to open Desktop using "Show The Desktop" option.

Is there a way I can get the desktop option in the Hierarchy Tree somehow ?

*sorry for the bad english

A:Missing "Desktop" option in the left menu

Open your user folder and just drag the Desktop folder over to the navigation pane under favorites.

I have a copy of outlook 2002 running on Windows 98SE which when you try to insert an attachment into a new message you can't because the option "insert as link" is missing from the drop down menu in bottom right hand corner of the insert box.

This problem existed with outlook 2000 as well, I upgraded in the hope it would fix it but it hasn't. Has anyone else seen this or knows how to fix.

Manny Thanks,

A:"insert as LinK" option missing in Outlook

This is a long shot, but try this

Go to Tools | Options | Mail Format tab

In the Compose in this message format list, click HTML or Rich Text Format

"Install" option is missing from the context menu for *.inf files.
Google gives many results, but all considering the same problem for Win95/98/2000, and not for XP which is my OS.

It is probably a registry problem, since it is the same case on my both computers with same software, and different hardware.
I've tried everything I knew, but can't move a bit.

I have one more problem with context menu; WinRAR "extract" options are present, but not working for *.rar files. They do work for other archives though. This is not such a big problem, but I am mentioning it beacause there is a possibility that both are connected.

I desperatly need to install an *.inf driver. No way around. I NEED to get back "INstall" option in the context menu for *.inf file drivers.
