I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You mean you hide it? If that what happened, just change the folder view setting to show up the hidden folders.

If that isn't what happened, then elaborate the situation much more.

Hi,

I had upgraded from communicator/netscape 4.7x to netscape 7.2 several months back. All was fine till tuesday 7/5/2005 I log in and noticed my sent folder was empty, also another work related folder is empty:

I'm not sure how to do a screen shot here so:

Sent 2KB File 7/5/2005 1:38pm

Sent.msf 2KB MSF File 7/5/2005 10:57 pm

Sent.snm 3,280 KB SNM File 1/12/2005 3:22 PM

similarly another folder:

csgfld MISSING not there!
csgfld.msf 2846kb msf file 7/1/2005 5:24 pm
csgfld.snm 4848kb snm file 1/12/2005 9:13pm
My Sent folder from my 6/9/2005 backup is a 65M+ file with thousands of messages

My csgfld folder from my 6/9/2005 backup is a 99M + file with thousands of messages

I saw that my disk space was almost gone when i noticed these folders were "empty". Please advise.

Did i hit a netscape bug?
Did i hit an upper limit to folder size in terms of messages/Megabytes?
Did netscape zero out these files since I did not have diskspace instead of just warning me?

Am i stuck with losing 3 weeks worth of email in my sent and csgfld folder?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I use Windows Mail. Never had a problem. I do genealogy work and I have quite a lot of surname folders where I store email pertaining to that surname. It's very important and there are a lot of attachments with documents. Today I go in and one of the folders is gone. The very first one titled Ansell-Collins.

Now where could it go? I searched the deleted folder... not there. I check to be sure it didn't jump into another folder... I opened everything. GONE.

Can anyone explain this and perhaps help me get it back?

If I was beyond the limit of how much mail I could store wouldn't I get some type of warning before it just deleted something I needed? Years of work down the drain.

Okay here's the problem-I have a user that has office10 and he said he was moving e-mails to a folder then all of a sudden he lost the folder. Now it's not apst folder because I searched but when I do a search in Windows 7 for one of the e-mails it will say the e-mail is in outlook but I can't seem to find the folder they are in. Can someone please help me with this?

A:Lost folder

Just to be clear, your user has Office XP / Office 2002 installed and while "moving" emails in Outlook 2002 he "lost" the folder - is this correct?

As your search for an email says it is in Outlook, my best guess is the target folder was moved and may be located as a subfolder under another. Expand out all folders and see if it's "hiding" in the folder tree.

Ok I hope this is the right place for this. Anyways, I recently reformatted my hard drive. I know I did it correctly, I unplugged all USB drives and all before doing it to make it a clean reformat. I backed up all my important stuff. I had about 2 gigs of multimedia files I put into a compressed folder and put on a blank dvd. After reformatting and resetting up my computer and all, I popped the dvd in, and cut the compressed folder from the dvd and put it on the desktop. I tried opening it and it said the files were corrupt. I know they weren't infected or anything because I scanned them and I know the exact source of every file in there. So then I had to reboot because of updates, and anyways when I got back to the desktop the compressed folder was gone, and i searched my computer and couldn't find it anywhere. I also checked the dvd it says the entire dvd's memory is taken up (like it was when I started with the stuff on it) but it doesn't show the folder anymore. Is there any possible way I can retrieve that folder? thank you in advance.

So, I was testing out my new batch file that hides files, and then requires a password to un hide it, all from the file. The problem was that anybody could right click it, hit edit, then change the password to get to it(assuming they have basic computer knowledge). So I had made an .exe file that required a password to open, which all it did was open that file. Then I noticed, it wouldn't hide the specified folder because the .bat file that the .exe opened was in a different directory. So I made a shortcut to the folder, then I put the folder in the same directory. Sadly, then when I un-hid the .bat, the directory was gone, and it took the folder with it, as far as I know. The major problem is that the folder that was taken was my whole desktop. I had put everything into that folder to save space. Now I cannot find it. That folder is hidden, and it is nowhere to be found. I went to my control panel and clicked 'show hidden files and folders,' and I still can't find it. I went into cmd to locate the file using 'dir' commands, and come couldn't even find it. All of the files in the folder are hidden too, sadly. Please help ASAP, because I have important things in that folder that I need back for school. Thanks!

I've no idea with computers, however I was trying to set up True crypt, more difficult than I imagined, however, I cleared my USB pen drive saving everything in a folder to the desktop.

During the set up with True crypt I got confused, saved the folder from my desktop in another drive, I came out of true crypt unable to follow the instructions, now I can't get into the folder on my desktop, any idea how I can find it, when I click to open it the message says it's been moved or changed, also I can't remove my USB pen drive, when I right click safely remove hardware, a pop up says it cannot be removed right now, try later.

I'm not bothered about true crypt, if I can get into my original folder which has personal information in it, and safely remove the pen drive, I'll be more than happy.

Welcome to TSG

How to manually remove norton system works.

Okay when you've finished with the above remove the symantec directory from windows explorer. Then delete all references to norton, symantec and live update from the registry.....please remember to back up the registry first.

After you have found the first reference hit the F3 key to find the next one..keep deleting till all have been removed...reboot

Please advise. I am pretty computer savy I just don't know where to look for the pointer for my old desktop and associated files. I am working on a backup if I have to restore it. I have a slave drive (E drive for me) where I store all of my non system folders and files. Photos, doc, etc. While looking for something the other day I noticed that one of the folders that I regularly use was not accessible. It is a folder directly off the root directory. There are MANY other 'same type' folders in this root directory that seem unaffected. And while checking, I found a couple other folders that are also not accessible.
I have a lot of data potentially at risk here and I am VERY worried that it may not be recoverable. When I click on one of these problem folders, after a long pause, a message pops up asking me about formatting this drive. Of course I click no.
I right clicked on the drive letter, properties and selected check disk for errors, this prompted me to reboot so CHKDSK could work at startup.
While that was going I saw on the screen "File record segment xxxxx is unreadable"
Then "deleting an index entry from index $0 of file 25"
Wondering if there's anything else I can do to recover this section of the drive that may be in trouble. Why would one folder be fine and the next one in the list be corrupt. and then the next 5 be fine and then one not? Very strange - happened overnight too - one day working one day not. And no other changes were made to the system. The only thing I've done on this system lately is to dump photos from a digital camera onto another drive.
Any help would be appreciated.

I recently lost permission to one of my folders (Pictures folder) and the all contents inside. I still have Read and Execute rights, but I lost all others. I don't know if it has anything to do with Homegroup sharing because I recently set up a Homegroup and shared the folder. I removed the folder from sharing but it didn't fix the problem.

Something odd I noticed was in the Properties->Security tab, where it lists all users who have access to the folder, it lists Account Unknown followed by a long string. Normally it lists [my name]\[computer name] or SYSTEM. I have a feeling that the unknown account is actually my account, but somehow the computer is not recognizing that fact. I tried to manually edit permission to give the unknown account full control but it wouldn't let me do it (access denied error).

I could just live without it, I can probably create a new pictures folder and move all the files, but I'd like to know how to fix the problem.

It is possible it was disabled in error, following these instructions will show you how thay can be turned off or on.

Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable

If you want to speed up browsing around in explorer, you might think about disabling thumbnail previews in folders.

Note that this works in Windows 7 or Vista
To make this change, click the Organize button on any folder, and choose Folder and Search Options from the menu.

Click the View tab, and then check the Always show icons, never thumbnails checkbox.

Click OK, and you’re done.

Messed with this for months with every suggestion I could find on the web but it was not to be. Being extremely irritated with this and quite hard headed, I was determined. I have almost succeeded in the goal thru a massive amount of trial and error. 98% of this issue is caused by cleaning programs of which I run several. The icon to the recycle bin has been deleted from my desktop and the original recycle folder has been renamed $recycle.bin. When I open the $recycle.bin, it says the folder is empty. However, with Sniffer, I can see the deleted files are intact in this folder.

How can I recover the data and put it in a default recycle.bin?

Thanks for any help,

John

I hope someone can help. My situation, I am running out of space on my C drive, so I decided to change the location of Documents to my F: drive which is a larger hardrive I have installed. All was going well, and everything was moving, but then my laptop crashed with 3 items left to move!!!

At that point I could still see my original Documents folder and the F: drive with a copy of the documents folders. So I thought I'd try again and I deleted everything off F: and rebooted.

Wrong move....

Now my documents folder is F: with nothing on it, and I can't see C:/Users/Myname/Documents anymore!!!

After my initial panic, I realise it is still there. In cmd, I can access the directory using cd, and all my directories in C:/Users/Myname/Documents are still there. But I can't see or access them in Windows explorer.

Things I have tried;

- Change location of documents folder back from F: - no go, it says "Falied to build the list of regular subfolders under F:\System Volume Information" Access is denied".

- Been into the registry and tried to change the location of personal back to C:/Users/Myname/Documents - doesn't seem to have worked.

So I am getting desperate. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance...

Welcome
Small problem
Make a system restore in case things go wrong
Then
Download Shadow explorer
It will let you go back to see your documents before you made the changes

Hi.I cannot believe it happened to me, but it did. Last week when I had to reference an old email and found out 3 of my email subfolders' email has been deleted! I could not believe it! I don't know how it happened. Absolutely no clue. Anyways, I did try "How to repair Internet Explorer 6 & Outlook Express" and that did not work.Went to http://ask-leo.com/the_contents_of_my_inbo..._i_recover.html. That did not either, but it did get me a clue in regards to the registery. I had a lot that I need to fix, but I do not know if I can trust it because one of my collegues did and lost her emails too. Any suggestions will be appreciated.Regards, eveilyn

A:Emails Lost In Its Own Folder

Hi eveilyn,Can you confirm that you are having this problem with Outlook Express and not some other program?Also:1. Did you find your mail store and/or locate the .dbx file(s) that correspond to the name of the missing folders?2. I just glanced at the Ask Leo article, but didn't see any reg mods suggested. Can you tell me specifically what you are looking at there and if you did do anything in the registry?3. What operating system (XP?) and which antivirus are you using?4. Did you try the instructions in this article as well? http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=295965

I used this program FreeHideFolder to hide a folder. My computer crashed and I installed windows on my other harddrive (C) and the old windows doesn't work anymore (on D). Is there anyway to recover the hidden folder on drive D?
I've tried running the program but it comes up empty.

This afternoon I transferred some photos from my camera to the computer. I then put them into a new folder and now can't remember the name I chose.
I am using Firefox as a browser and can't remember how to switch to Windows Explorer. I remember in Explorer that I could view recent folders, but I cannot find that option in Firefox.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

I have Outlook Express and IE 6.0 using under XP Home Edition with sp2 and was just doing normal work today when the system went black and re-started and message said "you have recovered from a serious sysem error." My system re-started and everything looked fine in my desktop but when I went into Outlook Express for my e-mail I had my 475 e-mails there....were GONE. Including an E-Mail folder called Domain that was the most important one I Moved many if my e-mails to. Good grief, I did a System Restore to about 5 different days and times....no change, I did the usual housekeeping, which I do every week, of defrag, and disk clean and even Scandisk....and tried again... no change. Can anyone give me a clue about getting this back?? I don't know what else to do???
Thanks, Jim

I have always kept saved email in a local folder on OE5. I run Mac OS 9.2.

Without explanation, this folder and all its subfolders have disappeared. Strangely, when I use Advanced Search, all the subfolders (but not the main folder) appear in the criteria box. Clicking on "search" using "all folders" as the location yields all my disappeared messages.

How do I reinstate my lost folder? I can't find it or any of the subfolders anywhere. Many thanks.
