I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I connected my bluetooth speaker today to my laptop to test if it worked: Acer Aspire 5742ZG
It worked until today I wanted to remove the device. I'm unable to disconnect/remove it. It show's up in Devices and printers.

Why I want to remove it is because I want to connect a bluetooth keyboard.

In Windows there is this information on the device:

Where in the screenshot can be read: Status: Attached was - is now Status: Removing device. (I right clicked remove device).
That's all there is and it remains like: Status: Failed removing device and later I see Status: Connected again. How can I remove this device so that I can connect a new device?
For the rest, there are also no settings in Windows 10 anymore that have to do with bluetooth.

Before I could easy setup bluetooth from the icon on the taskbar (the bluetooth logo). Now I see nowhere bluetooth except the device that can be shown on the first screenshot. For me this is a very difficult problem because bluetooth no longer works in Windows 10. I've set already wireless off to try to remove the device since it is a broadwell bluetooth device and the wireless LAN is also from broadwell. In Windows Device Manager there is no device related to bluetooth that can be removed. It also sounds strange to me the device is shown like a bluetooth peripheral device.

Thank you so much for additional help !!

A:Notebook bluetooth driver show no device detected

If you need drivers, please follow these steps:1. In the Run box type devmgmt.msc.2. Unknown devices would be listed as such and marked out with a yellow question mark.3. Select the unknown device or other device for which you need drivers and right click to access Properties.4. In the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id  or Hardware ID from the drop down.5. An alphanumeric string like this PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_7130&SUBSYS_012F1025&REV_01\4&6B16D5B&0&33F0 is the identification marker for the device.6. Please provide this number so that we can suggest the appropriate driver.

I'm trying to fix an hp pavillion dv6704nr laptop running windows vista home premium. It has the little red x on the speaker in the lower right hand corner. The owner said it has been there for some months. I have tried downloading the current audio drivers for the computer but every time I try to install the driver, I get an error that says the device couldn't be found.

The first time i restarted the computer, after the driver installation failed, the audio came back and worked fine, until I had to restart the computer. Now I keep getting the same error and nothing i have found so far online has helped.

There are no yellow triangles in the device manager and the device list isn't showing the category for "sound, video and gaming etc." at all.

Please help. I did a search but the other threads didn't solve this problem for me.
Thanks in advance.

I have a Toshiba laptop, model L505-ES5018. I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on here, but decided to reformat my hard drive using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After the reformat was finished, I ran Windows Update and it found several items to download and install for me. I noticed that it also found optional items to download and install for me, so after all the important updates installed, I ran the optional updates. After all of this installed, I checked Device Manager to see if there were any errors and I found nothing. I assumed everything was fine. I decided to check Devices and Printers and under my laptop icon, there was a yellow icon with an exclamation point on it. I decided to run the troubleshooting option when I right-clicked the icon....it gave me a solution to download a Toshiba password utility program, so I did that and nothing happened, even after restart. Same icon appeared. When I clicked on the icon a second time, I noticed that the model of my computer at the bottom of this window, changed from L505 to TIAS. I have no idea what this is. I decided to do another reformat on my hard drive. This time, I ignored the optional updates. I checked Devices and Printers again, the same icon appeared but the model of my computer said L505, like it should. There is something in the optional updates that is changing this. Could it be the Intel chipset driver that the optional update is pushing? I'm not sure. I went back to Device Manager, th... Read more

I paired Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse to my Windows 7 Professional x64 HP ZBook 14 which is connected to my company's corporate domain. Everything worked beautifully until they had to re-image my PC to resolve a disk encryption issue. That issue is resolved, but I have had bad luck getting my keyboard and mouse to pair and remain connected ever since. However, that's not even the problem now. After troubleshooting my Bluetooth issues by installing different driver versions, pairing and un-pairing my keyboard and mouse, changing settings in Bluetooth Support Service and more, I now have two Bluetooth Peripheral devices that always appear in Device Manager. I believe these are remnants of previously paired devices, but I can not get rid of them no matter what I try. These devices do not show up in Devices and Printers, they become Bluetooth Low Energy HID Devices when I install the computer manufacturer's drivers... As I typed this I thought of installing the Intel Bluetooth drivers I had previously installed to see what would happen... Ok that made things worse. Now there are three random Bluetooth Low Energy HID Devices and none of them are actual devices that are paired to the PC. And pairing the devices does not help. If I could, I would just delete the registry keys but I can't (remember, corporate domain PC). Any help from you brilliant people would be great. Thank you!

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?

A:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

i have installed the correct driver for this belkin bluetooth usb dongle model: F8T012XX1

but in device manager, it has the belkin device and microsoft bluetooth enumerator, which is great. but when u get further down the list. it has a tab named "other devices" and then a subtab with "bluetooth peripheral device" which has an exclemation mark on it.

i have searched for driver software using the update service but it cant find no update.

i have looked for the name of the manufacturer but found nothing.

i then disabled the unknown device, and sent a picture to my mobile phone. which confirmed that it was not the belkin bluetooth device. so i uninstalled the unknown device, restarted the computer. then when i logged in, it said that it had found a new device and wanted me to find the CD that came with it..

i would be greatful if any1 could help me on this..

So I did some searching for a way to fix this problem but I believe that my problem is different than the Bluetooth Peripheral Device problem that most people have.

I am NOT trying to connect a cell phone to my laptop. I am not trying to connect anything I don't think (unless my bluetooth mouse counts?).

I have no idea what a Bluetooth Peripheral Device is. I took some screenshots of the messages I receive every time a wake my computer up or turn it on. (1st, smaller picture)

It tries to update a driver but always fails and gives me this. (2nd, larger picture)

The suggestion my laptop gives me is this

There may be an easy solution to this, but I feel really lost right now.

I have a USB device that is not removed from the Device Manager after I unplug it. The laptop is a Samsung 700Z5B, win7 x64, updated with all MS patches, I'm not 100% sure if the BIOS is up to date, having trouble finding that info.

If I have just restarted the computer I can use my USB device just fine. From that point I can remove it once or twice, but after that it won't work again until a restart of the computer.

This seems to be the only device that is having this trouble. The hardware the USB connects to is a Moates Quarterhorse and it has an FTDI chip AFIK. I have not found anyone else having this issue with a Quarterhorse so I am thinking it might be an issue with my laptop as opposed to the Quarterhorse hardware.

Any thoughts or possible direction?

You should be using the method of clicking on the arrow in the systems tray (right hand side of the taskbar) as shown next to my Kaspersky K it will open up and show what devices are plugged in click on the one you want to remove and wait for it to say safe to remove - easy .

A:I Accidentally Removed Bluetooth Entirely on my Ultrabook!!!

What does "I removed Bluetooth" mean exactly? I hope you did not physically rip it out of Ultrabook innards.

If you accidentally uninstalled your Bluetooth driver in Device Manager, then you can ask Device Manager to "Scan for hardware changes" and see if it reinstalls Bluetooth driver automatically.

If it cannot find drivers for the device, then you should go to manufacturer's support Web site for your Ultrabook and download the Bluetooth driver from there.

Not sure if it will work for you, but its worth a try.

But a friend living hundreds of miles away uses XP and ran an "unasked for" Pop-Up utility that said he had computer problems because of malware or spyware some unnamed entity had installed on his computer. Unfortunately he doesn't remember the name of the "so called spyware detector/remover", but he fell for the "Warning" and ran the program to "check" his system.

Of course, as most those unrequested detect/remover programs do...it found many "so called serious" problems. But would Not "fix/clean them" unless he payed for the program.

From THAT point on, his CD-ROM wouldn't work(which it had dependably always before)....the Device Manager that it "is there" and what make/model it is....and also says that it is enabled and working properly(but it isn't working, as before). And the Icon disappeared from from the My Computer folder. I guess that program somehow did something to it, in order to force people to pay for the program to "fix it" and othe so-called problems!

Has anybody ever heard of this?
Can you help me get his CD-ROM accessable and working dependably as before? Please??

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

Background information

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L50-B with Intel Core i7 and AMD Radeon R7 M260. It came with Windows 8 pre-installed when I first bought it, but I soon wiped the disk to install Windows 7 instead. I also installed Ubuntu on a separate partition so I could dual boot. So the GRUB bootloader replaced the MBR. This isn't the issue though, just want to inform the laptop is running in CSM mode(or legacy) instead of UEFI.

First of all, before you assume, the hard drive is working perfectly. I can still boot to Windows and it works fine. More on this at the end.

Now the issue is, I removed the Ubuntu partition, and I've really no idea what I did wrong with restoring/fixing the MBR. Now, whenever I try to boot, it displays "No boot device found". I've tried:

- Windows Recovery
- Windows Recovery using disk
- Parted Magic (Hiren's BootCD)

Mainly, I tried to restore and fix the MBR using bootsect and bootrec (fixmbr, fixboot and rebuildbcd). Also automated repair using the recovery.

As I mentioned above, I don't think it's a problem with the hard drive, since I'm posting this very question from this problematic laptop, on the main Windows installation.

I can still boot into windows, but only using either:

- Windows recovery disk (without booting into the disk, just have it in
the drive when booting)

Microsoft accidentally leaked the golden keys to the Windows kingdom. The keys allow hackers to unlock every Windows device, including tablets, phones and other devices that are protected by Secure Boot. The most alarming part about the leak is that it is believed that it may likely be impossible for Microsoft to fully recover from the leak.
The leakwas uncovered by two security researchers MY123 and Slipstream, who revealed in a (Star Wars-style) blog that the security flaw allowed malicious entities with admin rights or physical access to a device can bypass Secure Boot to not only run other operating systems (OS) like Linux or Android on the device but also install and execute rootkits and bootkits, at the most deeply penetrated level of the device.
The researchers wrote: "A backdoor, which MS put in to secure boot because they decided to not let the user turn it off in certain devices, allows for secure boot to be disabled everywhere! You can see the irony. Also the irony in that MS themselves provided us several nice 'golden keys' (as the FBI would say) for us to use for that purpose."

Note: Physical Access is needed.

A:Microsoft accidentally leaks golden keys that unlock every Windows device

Note: Physical Access is needed. In that case, I'm not particularly worried. A physical access requirement is pretty much a show-stopper unless "physical access" can be replaced with a social engineering technique to get a employee to insert physical media into the PC.

Hello, first post to this forum. Hoping to tap the collective wisdom on something I have not seen before.
My Dell M6500 black screens from time to time. I power off un-gracefully, then power on and boot normally. Until yesterday, when it stopped booting to any device (except when the HDD is removed).
Symptoms -
HDD spins up.
After the POST, I see the Intel Matrix Storage Manager splash with a blinking cursor. And there it sits until I hit the power switch.
As long as the HDD is in either drive bay (this box has two), all attempts to boot from any device fail.
No F8.
F12 menu loads, but I cannot boot from either a USB (Ubuntu iso) or the optical drive.
No luck in tests with Win7 install disk; Trinity Rescue Kit (3.3 and 3.4); and SpinRite 6.
F12 diagnostics do not load.
The only F12 that works is the BIOS Setup. But no combination of Boot Sequence settings made any difference, including eliminating all but USB and all but ODD.
Here's another twist: When I remove the HDD, I can boot from the USB and optical media listed above, no problem.
The HDD was installed new about 8 months ago. It spins up, so I suspect a possible issue with boot sector or MFT. But I cannot boot from the Win7 install media to get to Bootrec. (I have no guarantee that that would work, but I would at least like the chance to test it.)
What do you all make of this?

I forgot to mention... I tested the HDD in a second machine, recently serviced/tested by Dell on-site. Same results. The only known difference between machines is BIOS level. The one above is at Dell A09, and the second machine is A06.

I have a PC that has an onboard Intel Pro 1000 MT dual gigabit ethernet controller. When it was originally set up, IT configured it using a 3Com 10/100 NIC that was temporarily installed (the IT guy said his network bootdisk would not work with the onboard controller). After a Windows image was loaded, the 3Com card was removed.

Now my problem is that if I try to set a static IP of on the onboard controller, I get an error saying the IP is reserved for a NIC that is no longer installed and might cause problems if I use it. Do I want to select another IP? (No, I want to use that one).

If I look in Device Manager I see the 3Com card is disabled. When I try to remove it I receive an error that the card cannot be removed because it may be needed for the PC to boot. Why? There is no cards installed.

How can I remove the 3Com card from Device Manager and make Windows forget the IP is reserved? I am quite comfortable editing the registry if I knew where to look.

A:Removed NIC in Device Manager

Computer is an Acer Inspire 3500+, AST 160-UA352H

I removed a codec package along with a couple of players, so I could just use Media Player to play songs and movies (after I installed Codecs for Media Player). Sound, Video, Game controllers are all working properly.

Now, the computer won't play any sound at all, and it says Multimedia Audio Controller doesn't have a driver. I didn't remove any driver?

I downloaded and installed Realtek AC'97 drivers (right from Acer website) but nothing.

What happened? How can I get sound back?

A:removed codecs, now no sound, no device?

Is this the driver you downloaded?http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_3500.html

Welcome to the forum,

If you right click on an empty area in the sound box you should get the option to show disabled devices.
