I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have found a plethora of advice on how to do it. They all say to insert a blank DVD, but nowhere can I find anything about size of disc or how to determine size in individual cases. Also, specific recommendations for disc (I have never burned a disc)?

I plan to use an exterior HD for system image.

I received a warning message on my Sony Vaio laptop to clear up space because I'm running out of it.  I looked on my C drive and was down to 9.34 GB of hard drive space out of 500GB.  I know I'm at least supposed to have 150-200 GB's left.  So then I proceeded to delete a few 1gb+ files(even cleared them out of the recycle bin) and went to check if I had more space and nothing changed.  So I decided to update Malwarebytes when I notice that my drive space is still decreasing to 8GB's now.

Next I decide to reboot in safe mode with networking.  I update Malwarebytes again and it picks up nothing after a full scan.  So then I decide to update and run SuperAntiSpyware Portable.  It actually picks up two registry entries from BHO-FBI Money Pak and some tracking cookies. I quarantine those files and boot back in regular mode and I notice the drive is still losing space.  I figure their has to be something wrong because when I'm in safe mode with networking their is about 137GB of space left on the drive.  I'm confused as to what to do next?  This is very weird.

Have you checked to see how many restore points you have? I'll leave the possible malware aspect of your issue to others here more qualified.

Hi folks - hope someone can help.
I'm running XP Home on a Sony VAIO. The PC has a partitioned HD: C (main), & D (storage). I defrag every night.
This evening, I got the dreaded "not enough disc space to complete disc defragmenter" message. Suddenly tonight I'm showing only 2% free space on drive C. I went in and changed my System Restore percentage from 12% to 6%. Now I'm showing 6% free space (but still can't defrag).
I shouldn't have had to change my System Restore percentage tho. I'm sure that's not the culprit. Up until last night the C drive was nowhere near this full. Something's there tonight that wasn't yesterday. ...A whole LOT of something. The Defrag graph is showing a nearly FULL C drive with a LOT of red "fragmented" files"
I've been doing a bit of downloading, but after it's on the desktop (part of C), I move it to the D storage drive (which has a LOT of free space remaining).
Something's fishy. I'm no expert, but I'm thinking I need to find some type of application to tell me what's suddenly on that drive taking up all this space. Anyone have any helpful suggestions?...

Last week I bought a Sony 16X dual layer DVD-R which I installed next to my regular DVD reader. The new DVD writer will write CD's and DVD's straight from the hard drive perfectly but it won't write from disc to disc. I've tried fast copy on and off and both don't work. I've tried wiring the drives up in different ways with the same result every time.
I insert my "already copied" DVD into the reading drive and then a blank DVD into the writer, Nero starts, I click "disc to disc" and then burn. Before the disc even starts to right I get an error message that says "cannot copy this disc to a DVD". I've tried different discs with the same result. The discs I am trying to copy are copys them selves and not retail discs.
Anyone got any idea as to how to fix this?
Cheers

A:Help, can't copy disc to disc with Nero (DVD-R)

You have to be careful, I'm not sure what discs you are copying, but not all times do the programs that are used to copy remove the encryption or protection. It very well could have transferred it to the copy as well.

Hi, I've noticed sometimes that the Free Space on my harddrives won't reflect changes I've made. For example, on my 28.6gb F: drive, I had about 586mb free. I just deleted a video file of about 700 mb, so it should be up to about 1.2 gb. Oddly enough, its still at 586mb. I emptied the recycle bin of course.

Is there a way to recalculate disc space? I have Windows XP and I do have Norton System Works. This isn't the first time disc space hasn't matched recent actions. Thanks in advance.

A:Free Space inaccuracies?? Calculating disc space?

If the video wasn't in My Docs then 'System Restore' in XP may have recorded the change to enable a future restore. To record a 700mb deletion that it may be asked to restore back takes 700mb.
System restore ignores the My Docs folder so the above is irrelevant if the video was deleted from that location.

I keep getting the message "Low disc Space" You are running out of disc space on local disc C. I have checked my "Add/remove, but do not want to remove any of the programs. My computer is running very slow. I don't really have a lot of programs installed and can't figure out why I am getting this message. I was running a ghost program and am wondering if this could be a problem. I also find that when I run my Norton anti-virus, I seem to have many more files than expected. Is their any way that I can resolve this problem or find out what is typing up a lot of space without looking at the add/remove programs. I am almost intermediate, but am a bit of a dumbhead when it comes to this, so please be gentle. thanks for your help. Running windows XP

I am having a problem burning "Disc at Once" (no gaps between tracks) when using Nero. When I specify Disc at Once and make sure the pause for each track is set at 0, I get an error that says "You have chosen to burn Disc At Once, but the current compilation contains tracks that can not be prepared quickly enough to achieve uninterrupted writing. Burn Track At Once Instead?"

Anyone ever get this, and how can I avoid it?

I am trying to burn WAVs that are on my hard drive, to CD with out any gaps (as this is a live show, and don't want that gap or hiccup in between tracks). I was able to burn these exact same WAVs DAO with Roxio. So I don't know why Nero won't let me.

Thanks for any help.

I am using Nero to burn the contents of a few hundred folders. I am having to do it small pieces at a time. The problem is that the listing of folders already on the cd takes up the entire space available for dragging and dropping to add to the compilation, even with the window maximized. So whatever I drag and drop ends up as a subfolder of the last folder in the window. Is there a way to select folders and move them via a menu command so that the folders remain seperate? Thanks!

A:Nero window size too small

Hi. I may be wrong about this. I have Nero, but it's been a while since I used it. But, it seems to me that the window is separated into two sections, one pane where you browse your PC and select files/folders, and the other pane that displays the contents of the CD. I think you can select the files on your PC that you want placed on the CD, then click once on the tiny CD icon at the top of the heirarchy tree, then click the Add button (I think the Add button has a green downward pointing arrow). This allows you to specify the root of the CD as the destination for your selected files. So, while you're not using the "drag and drop" feature, you are at least able to tell the program where you want the folders to go.

Hope this helps.

I created a slideshow using Windows Movie Maker, and saved it to my computer so I could view it with Windows Media Player. It saved as a .wmv file. I then opened Nero6 to burn it to a cd. I followed the instructions (NeroVision Express 2) to create a video cd. Imported the video, and tested it, and it played fine, just like I had recorded it, with the fade ins and outs, etc. I followed the next steps, which was basically just creating a title, and was taken to the review page right before burning the disc. When I review it at this point, it plays the movie, but the transitions (aforementioned fade ins, and ease ins and outs of the pictures) no longer work. I did not change anything at all on the video, just added the title. Can anyone tell me what has happened please? This is quite frustrating. My os is Windows XP by the way, if that matters.

Nero should finalize by default. It would not finalize if you checked the option 'Allow files to be added later (multisession disc)'.

Hi all,

A friend of mine is trying to burn some songs that he has downloaded, to CD. I am unsure (and he doesnít know how to check) which Nero he is using. He has told me that he goes to: AUDIO CD, and adds the songs that he wants. Once it has been completed, it says that it has burned successfully. He then tries to play it on his stereo and nothing happens, he puts the disc back into the computer drive and it says the disc is empty.

Could this be an incompatible disc problem, or maybe the songs heís downloaded may be ones (like itunes) where you canít burn them to disc.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

A:Nero CD burning shows empty disc

In Nero Burning ROM, the Help / About Nero ... menu selection should show a screen with the detailed version number.

I believe one of the options in Nero is to run a simulated burn test without actually burning to the CD. Make sure that box is not checked. Not sure if a "Burn Successful" message shows up at the end of the test.

Can your friend hear the CD-ROM drive spin up when the burning starts? Are there any activity lights on the drive to indicate burning in progress?

One of the options when starting a burn is to verify the CD contents right after burning is completed. What happens if that box is checked?

Has this version of Nero ever worked to burn any type of audio or data CD on this drive?

Hi! My name is Apoorva. I have faced a problem with my blank DVD.

I had burned a blank DVD (Morserbaer ) in the month of July with some Data files using Nero 7.

Than, I kept this burned DVD into the "DVD Pack" which is provided by Moserbaer when one purchases a
10 Pack DVD.

Today, few mins back, I had inserted the same DVD into the DVD writer ( Liteon ) inorder to burn few more data on the same DVD.

When I clicked on the Burn button in Nero 7, it straight away progressed to 50% and than gave an error stating that Burn could not be completed.

( Options selected before clicking on Burn were :
Write on the left menu.
Speed was set to 8x, DVD supports upto 16x.
Enable multisession.
Verify data after burn.
)

Now what happened is that the disc has became inaccessible. It is not being read by the Liteon DVD Writer & seems to me like this disc has been damaged.

I tried few of the data recovery tools available on the internet
but were of no use.

Than, I removed the DVD from the tray and turned it upside down to see the recording layer and found that it has overwritten on the previously burned data. This is b'coz there is a big circle round the disc at the end of
and a medium size new circle in that big circle.

Anybody in this forum would have any idea as for how to recover the data from this DVD even though the recovery tools have already been used.

A quick reply in the above matter will be highly appreciable!!!

A:DVD disc damaged after 'Burn' being unsuccessful in Nero 7.

I haven't used Nero 7, I stuck with 6. Enable multisession sounds like the option to create/start a multisession disc. Is there a 'continue multisession' option in Nero 7? That would have been the option to use to add to an already started multisession disc.
Multisession burning is not the most reliable way to back up important data - as you are finding out. I would not continue with it if you value your data.
About your current problem, it would help if we knew what recovery programmes you have tried so far?

In short - when I try to burn a DVD disc with Nero 7 on _NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A, the burning process ends as soon as it starts showing an error (log is attached) "Could not perform start of Disc-at-once".

I thought reinstalling Windows would solve the problem, but it didn't
I don't have the option to burn the disc in "Track-at-once" mode, which is kind of weird, only "Disc-at-once"...
I don't know what to write any more, so if you need some more detailed info, please ask

Thanks in advance

Admittedly I haven't had Nero 7 for long but so far, Burn-at-once has not worked for me either. I am suspecting it may be a DVD drive issue-- mine is about 4 years old. Maybe that feture only works with more recent drives.

My burn will fail when I get this error message in nero6. Does anyone know what it means? It does not happen all the time. All other programs are shut off when I do a burn. The nero site does not offer much help. I am trying to make sure I have the latest driver but I cannot find any for my drive which is a uj-805s MATbleepA. I have an acer laptop Aspire 5100-5022. the discs that have failed include Fuji and TDK. I run this same program in my desktop with the same disc brands and do not have this problem. I just updated my nero 6 and this does not help. It would be nice if my burns would all fail but about half of them are fine. Any ideas? Os is WMC on this machine which is still new and under warranty.

A:Nero Error " Illegal Block Size For Command"

I run this same program in my desktop with the same disc brands and do not have this problem. I just updated my nero 6 and this does not help.Maybe it's your burner itself? Go to your burner manufacturer's website or ACER's driver site and get the latest firmware for your burner. Then try burning a bunch of discs again. Test this with the SAME scenario on your desktop and make sure you're comparing apples-to-apples (ie: both computers have same software, updates, same CD-R, etc. etc.). That should help you narrow down your problem. If you don't get anywhere there, then it could be a software or hardware conflict. What programs are installed on the laptop vs the desktop? Check your firewall and antivirus rules to make sure Nero 6 has permission to access all functions. As a last resort, compare your hardware, Processor speed, etc.I may be rambling. but sometimes this is the only way to narrow down a problem. Oh, and try the microsoft knowledge base, they might have something there as well. Good luck.

Every time I try to make a dvd compilation with Nero, it says "reading dvd volume failed". Any insights on what I'm doing wrong? TIA

A:Nero: Can't record clips from multiple DVDs onto one disc

It depends on how you're doing it. It's easy to do just with DVD Shrink.
Get all your clips and add them into Shrink in ReAuthor mode. Then output as files and burn with NERO. You could also output as an ISO and burn with DVDDecrypter or NERO.

I use TMPGENC DVDAuthor to make demo disks for home theater. It's great if you want to make menus.

I've used Nero 7/8 (I forgot which one) previously to burn DVD files (vobs) onto new DVD discs.

The PC I had Nero 7/8 on is now gone and I bought a new PC and just installed Nero 10. I tried making a new DVD using the DVD-Video option in Nero Express.

It got as far as 3%, stayed there for a while then stopped. Here's the log:

I've never used Nero, but I see this Burn process failed at 16x . Try and change the burn speed and see if that helps. I personally use ImgBurn to burn most things. I have a fancy burner program, but ImgBurn is just so simple and easy

Greetings...

Yesterday I used Nero v6 to copy some dvd's that I authored. When I was done I noticed that my hard drive usage on my c drive went from 52% to 89%. I am betting that nero made temp files or iso's when I utilized the dvd copy applet but when I did a search for files created as of that day, no large files could be found. I rebooted to see if it would reset itself but it did not. anybody have suggestions?

TIA

A:Nero and missing hard drive space

Try going into File... Preferences, look at the Cache tab for the location it uses, then check out that subdirectory in Windows Explorer. As it is a cache directory, you should be able to delete everything in it... but if you are the cautious type, just move the contents to the Recycle Bin and keep working/reboot/etc, until you feel comfortable deleting it.

Hope this helps.

Hello. I have just finished making my dvd-video in nero vision, but when I go to burn it the following message appears:
There is not enough space available for the recording process.
There are 851mb available for temporary files in the folder C:DOCUME~1/Josh/LOCALS~1/Temp, but the recording process will need approximately 2684mb.

Which means I can't burn it, what do I have to do to fix this?

Help greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Hello.

I am using Nero Express version 7.7.5 with Windows Vista. I have
upgraded my Nero so it is compatable with Vista. Also, before I burn a
DVD9 double layer disc, I defraged both of my hard drives that are
installed on the pc. I am running a pc with 2GB of memory with a 3.0
GHz processer.

While trying to burn a dvd double layer, I have had Nero fail on me
twice where it is able or it appears that it is able to burn the first
layer of the dvd but not able to burn the 2nd layer. I have copied the
error messages bellow. Any advice on how to fix this error so I am
able to burn a double layer would be great appreciated. I am using
Memorex DVD+r 2.4 DL.

Also, I have disabled screen savers while I am burning, close multiple
applications and still not working.

Thank you
Jason

A:Burn Process Failed using Nero 7 with double layer disc

It's not much, but it's all I got......

In Nero Recode under "more" > then "configure" in the first panel there's a check box for "remove layer break". I don't know if this matters. It seems like it could have an adverse effect on dual layer burning. It's probably not that simple but like I said, it's all I got. Can the file be burned to a VIDEO_TS folder without a problem? (only relevant if you're coding from another file type).

I recently copied three CD's using Nero 6.0. Upon each subsequent CD copy, I noticed my HD space dropping by about a gig a CD...I thought this to be just the image file which would be deleted after copying. Now I realize that I have about 800 megs left, when before I started copying there was about 4 gigs available. I've checked the "TempImage.nrg" image files where Nero copies, those indeed have been deleted, and I've also checked in the Nero folders and every temp folder I have, nothing. My HD clearly shows 28.8 gigs actual, but C: (where I have everything) is only 22 gigs large. I appreciate any help...

A:Hidden Nero image files eating up space

Have you deleted all your TEMP files? How about checking to see if they're in the restore points? Perhaps you need to delete a couple of them. Finally, if you have Norton installed, the protected recycle bin may have them saved, try emptying that.

OK. I've tried 3 times and wasted 3 CD-R's. I'm trying, with Nero, to burn a data CD: just a bunch of jpg's and freeware. I've read that Burn4Free (the 1.0 release, as I've heard the others contain spyware) can cause conflicts, so I uninstalled Burn4Free. I check the box for "verify written data" in Nero; But I still get an error message after trying to Add/Remove programs through Windoze. (Sorry to make this so long) I just inserted the Data Cd I tried to burn. "Windows can perform the same action each time u insert a disk or connect a device with this kind of file." Pictures. I select "take no action". Fast forward to "Windows cannot find the installation program..." I can Browse for the install program, but I don't have the slightest idea where to look. Any ideas? I'm running XP Home. Thanks!

For example, I just did a clean install of XP, and the amount of disc space used was much greater than the amount of disc space that I thought would be used.

I moved some of my smaller programs from my main drive (C) to the D drive in order to clear up some space on my C drive. I uninstalled the programs from the C drive and reinstalled them on the D drive. The programs are working fine; however, I gained no space on the C drive. I checked the recycle bin and ran disc clean up and I still have the same amount on C as I did before. Is there something else that I need to do in order to get my space back on the C drive?
