Hi,
I am planning to buy New Dell Inspiron 15 series 7000. I would want to replace the harddisk with SSD by next year or so. But i wanted to know if i can have SSD along with hard disk in this laptop.
I wanted both good performance along with large storage. So i was wondering if i can have two disks at once.

mSATA and mini-PCI express have the same form factor but are electrically different. It doesn't look like any of the newer Inspiron 7000 series models have mSATA connectors -- the older 3rd generation ones did, though.
If you want an SSD along with a hard drive, you'll need to consider an XPS system - not an Inspiron.

I've got a new Inspiron 15 a couple of days ago with the following configuration:
Intel core  i7 7700HQ cpu
16GB DDR4
512GB SSD (bios reports M.2 PCIe ssd-0) -- no other hard drive
Graphics card NVidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti
Screen resolution 3840 x 2160
My problem is that I cannot split the hard disk into 2 partitions nor can i shrink the partition on which windows is installed from within windows. I used both the windows gui (disk management) and the command line program diskpart.
Does anyone have any idea?

It sounds like you might have a 7567 Gaming system.  If so, Windows will shrink a partition if it can. I would not recommend using a third party utility to shrink it since problems could happen and you might lose the system.
If you need another partition, you should have an option to place a 2.5 inch drive in the system for that.

My computer is exactly one month old.  I have move it to tablet mode 5 times.  The sixth time the left hinge literally snapped and disconnected from the computer.
I have always been a Dell customer, but I will not purchase from them again.  I see many people have had this issue.
It is not because of wear and tear. It is because this model has a defective hinge and dell should honor replacements.  I am so disappointed in the craftsmanship of this computer.  Dell used to be number 1... not any more in my book.
Now I have to deal with sending it somewhere to get the hinge repaired and be without a computer for 2 weeks.  Thanks Dell for standing by your products.  NOT
I will never recommend a Dell purchase to any person I know.

Can someone help me please.... I got a newly bought dell inspiron 13....it wont boot to windows now...it just stucks with the dell logo and after a few minutes a blue on screen will appear and turn off.   I notice also that it heats up...the back side of the laptop is getting hot

Rather unfortunate you had to face issues on a new machine. 
What is the exact blue screen error message / code? Does the system restart after the bluescreen crash or does it power off? Are you able to boot to f2 or f12 on startup?
Press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics - check for any possible beep codes.

I am not happy with this product. I have submitted a second trouble ticket today. The first was for a hard drive issue and the second is probably a motherboard as the customer support alluded to. Less than 6 months and now twice I am going to be without my laptop for an extended period of time. The first time was a for a week. For the second issue, I will have to send my laptop into the service center and even though they said they would expedite it, it will probably take at least two weeks for just shipping back and forth. 
I was thinking of getting something similar for my daughter, but after my experience with how inconsistent the laptop has been and how fixing the current laptop I have will take awhile, I can't see buying another Dell laptop. I was thinking of starting on my Master's next year, but obviously I may have to think about purchasing a second laptop to ensure that I have a trustworthy device to use for my school work. 
Honestly, right now, I feel that with every new Facebook post that Dell has about new products, I would like to tell my story on each and every post to ensure everyone thinks twice about buying a Dell computer. Just looking through the posts in the forums, it doesn't seem like many people are getting the support that they should be getting for spending a good chunk of money on these computers. Hi 
Recently my dell inspiron 7537 is having problems opening properly. I am not sure if it is the way I carry it in my back back (college student) but I always use a case with it and make sure to be gentle setting my backpack down, etc. I have had this computer since 2014 and never had any problems, I love it!. But recently when I try to open the laptop for use the right side makes a popping noise at the crease and the bottom right of the screen (not the touch screen portion but where it is black at the corner) is popping off. I can see the lights behind it. I am able to press on the screen to get it to pop back in place but even when it is in place and I test it by opening and closing it the same popping noise happens and the portion of the screen is raised again. 
Is this a problem I live with now? Any solutions? I bought my computer at costco but I can't remember if I had a warranty or if it even lasted this long. Any suggestions?
Also the actual computer functions just fine, no problems booting up or anything.

So, this happened a long  time ago but when ever I try to turn my computer on it wont start up, but when I plug it in there's a weird buzzing noise you can hear it if you put your head near the laptops keyboard and also if you put your head near the bottom of the laptop and there is also no display when plugged in. I really need a solution without buying a new laptop.

My charger is good. The light indicator on the lap top is working so it's taking the charge. When I press the power button the keyboard will light up but never turns on. It's has an internal battery so I cannot perform a reset as so many post and videos suggest. Please help.

So Dell made a really terrible decision.  They have a transparent strip in the power button for an LED light to indicate if the power is on.  A power indicator is a given in any laptop, no matter how cheap it is.  However, Dell in all of it's genius decided to not include an LED bulb on laptops up to the Inspiron 7000 Series, despite leaving a transparent slot for it.  Seriously, what happened to this brand?!?  Do children make these laptops now?
I want to fix this, as my laptop is no longer returnable and a power indicator is absolutely necessary.  So the only thing I can think of is replacing it with one from the 7000 Series somehow (with some help probably).
This is a Dell Inspiron 5559.  I also have an Inspiron 5547.  Not sure which exact 7000 model I should get the part for...
Are they compatible?
Is there an easier way? Like how Fn+H turns on the hard drive indicator?

The systems use different case and mainboard designs -- and may even be made by different companies.  The answer in all likelihood is no.
I don't think Apple has produced a Macbook with a power indicator -- the PC vendors are playing follow Apple.

Hey guys,
Ive recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 7559 laptop and installed windows 7 x64.I've installed all the drivers from the Dell website that matched my model, however i still have issues with the touchpad. I'm able to right/left click but not scroll. I tried downloading the alps and synaptics drivers for touchpad and restarted the pc without any help.
Anyone experienced issues like this and found a solution?

So, I've had my Inspiron 13 for about a year or so. I've had no real major issues or complaints, including upgrading to Windows 10 and those that I did have were solved with a simple search. After having my laptop for a year, its storage eventually filled up. I used a program called CCleaner to delete any junk files on my system, doing my best to make sure the program didn't delete any files that I needed, or that were necessary to the system. However, my best wasn't good enough as my system lost its functionality to automatically rotate depending on what orientation the system is in (Auto-Rotate). I went to the support page for my model, ran the system diagnostic more times than I can remember, as well as doing a full system scan twice, but all the tests showed that my system had no errors and was up to date. I reinstalled all the drivers on the support page, and uninstalled and reinstalled QuickSet64 and the ST Microelectronics 3-Axis Digital Accelerometer Driver, as this thread had suggested the problem may lie there. I also downloaded the Dell "Intel Chipset Driver" as this thread had suggested, verified that QuickSet64 was starting up with my system as this thread had recommended, and disabled the sensor in Device Manager and re-enabled as this thread writer had done, along with updating as many items in Device Manager as I could. I just bought this touchscreen 2-in-one laptop with Dell Active Stylus for Dell Tablets (750-AAGN) .
my question here is :
1: Do Photoshop , Zbrush  support this laptop / stylus pressure sensitivity ? 
2: how good is the pressure sensitivity on this device ?
3: how durable is the screen ? if i draw on it for 4-5 hours per day it wont get damaged in short time ?

I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 series 2-in-1 and the newest version of the stylus (half silver half black). It worked amazingly well with all the software I tried including PhotoShop. Didn't try it with ZBrush. Pressure is pretty good. My kid is an artist and she said it compares favorably with her tablet for responsiveness. 

No idea about the screen, but since it is glass, I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

HOWEVER - the stylus completely stopped working with the upgrade to Windows 10 and so far there has been nothing from Dell about it. If you are using Windows 10 and the stylus is working, cool - you shoudl be in great shape.

Hey everyone. Recently, my computer's screen has been on the fritz, and I'm wondering if this might be something I can replace by myself with a part or if it's something that requires sending it back to Dell.The screen can still look normal, but will sometimes freeze completely if the computer lid is moved from a certain angle. When this happens there's also visual artifacts and a change of colour - sometimes the screen goes completely black. The problems are mostly gone whenever I'm moving the lid, but come back when I stop. Can I replace the screen my myself do you guys think? Or is it a cable that needs replacing/ a more solid connection

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 7579.This is with the 15" screen and the hinges that let the system be used as a laptop, a tablet, or in "tent" or "stand" mode.When using it as a tablet, the keyboard is down, resting on the table or my lap or whatever.I'd like a cover that goes over that entire side of the computer.I *don't* want a "keyboard cover" that just covers the keys. But when I search, that's all I find.Anyone know of such a product?

While I am using my laptop my keyboard will suddenly stop working, my mousepad will still work but I can't type on anything. Whenever I try to restart or shut down my computer to try and fix this it doesn't shut down properly and the power light is still on but the screen is black. Hello, I purchased this touch laptop months ago and it has barely been used or even mobile. I have had an issue with the screen flickering for quite some time, it came out of nowhere prompting me to use the laptop less. 
The screen does NOT have an issue with flickering and brightness. The screen flickers EVERY time I move/touch the monitor at all. Sometimes when I move the entire laptop. Please give advice on what I should do as I don't have a ton of $$ to go anywhere to get it fixed and I bought the laptop in brand new condition from Craigslist so there is not a warranty.

Hello, I just bought this Inspiron 7000 gaming laptop as a replacement for my old Studio XPS that *** out recently, and one of the selling points was the ability to add a hard drive in the empty bay. I threw my XPS's HDD into the slot, but then the Inspiron wouldn't boot. Removed it, booted fine. I assumed that this is because the HDD comes before the M.2 SDD in the boot order and tried to fix that, but to no avail. With the HDD removed I set the BIOS to legacy boot, but it appears that reading an M.2 slot is beyond its capabilities, because Windows just cycled "choose a boot option" over and over no matter which Hard Drive disk option I chose (there were 2, I assumed one would be the SDD). I switched the BIOS back and everything's back to being fine.
There must be some way to do this, but I'm coming up empty on searches. Does anyone have a solution?

Just got my new laptop today, and of course first thing I do is open it up and put in an SSD. Well it looks like the "holder" that you put the drive in before screwing it into the actual laptop is warped... Photo attached. If you look, towards the left of the pic is where the screw is, then the caddy slowly protrudes out, then goes back in closer to the second screw. Do you guys think this is cause for concern (ie will it randomly one day destroy my entire laptop due to the pressure)? Or if I leave it alone should it be fine.

You could take it out, take the drive out, then use light finger pressure to straighten it out. From what I can see, it wouldn't cause me any undo concern. If the retaining screw isn't binding I wouldn't worry about it.

On the second day of usage, my laptop does not turn on the LCD. Its a Inspiron 15 7579 2-in-1
The keyboard lights up. I see a red led blinking permanently on top of screen, but , the screen keeps black, no image at all
The frontal led on base of keyboard blinks 7 times white plus 2 times amber
I read it means LCD failure.... Is there anything i can do to try solve it ?

So I was hoping to be able to add a second monitor with my Dell Inspiron, but I didn't have an extra monitor just lying around, so I was hoping to be able to use my old laptop for the same purpose. I tried hooking up the two computers with an HDMI cable, but there was no response. I'm fairly certain that the issue lies in the Inspiron's Display Adapter, which uses the Intel graphics card instead of the Nvidia one that is also installed. Is there some way to change the display adapter that the computer uses?
Or, if I'm just completely wrong about what's causing my problem, is there something else that could be making it so that my two laptops won't connect via HDMI?

I have a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series laptop.  It is 11 months old.  It has worked fine since day one until today.  Today the touchscreen quite working.  All the helpful hints from the internet do not work.  Some ask me to click on the TABLET PC icon in the Control Panel, but there isn't one.  Some tell me to turn off and back on the HID compliant Touchscreen control in the device manager, but there isn't one.  I am running Windows 10 which came installed from the Dell factory.  What else can I try (that I really can try)?

I purchased the Inspiron 15 7000 series laptop 1-1/2 weeks ago at Best Buy. The salesperson had me buy a VGA to USB adapter and suggested I plug it directly into the USB port and not through the USB hub I also bought. However, I cannot get the monitor to work. The computer is running Windows 10. The display shows 3 monitors (I also have a monitor on the HDMI port) but the settings for the Dell are greyed out. On other computers, shutting the laptop cover allowed the use of two external monitors, but I haven't been able to get this to work. Even unplugging the HDMI monitor doesn't allow the Dell monitor to display. Does this monitor work on the newer laptops? If so, what else can I try? And am I limited to two monitors on Win10 with this computer?

These haven't even shipped yet (October 3 is the release date) so you likely won't see much for a while -- and note that if you're on a tight time schedule, there are often delays with new models like this one.
It looks like a solid mid-range multimedia notebook - if you're planning intensive gaming, look elsewhere.   If you're looking for XPS-level build and materials quality - look elsewhere.  If you're willing to live with the design compromises of a lower-cost system (more plastic, less metal, etc.), it may be a good system for you.
If you look at the existing Kaby Lake model, battery life seems to be rated quite good (with the FHD screen; with a 4K screen it'd be appreciably less).

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series 7559 laptop that came pre-loaded with Windows 10.  The Anniversary update  for WIn 10 refuses to install with error code 0x80070003 and I have tried multiple things from online research all to no avail.  Tired of the thing constantly downloading the update for it to fail... Sick of Win 10 frankly as well as it truly is horrid.  My question:  is there anything preventing me from reformatting my C Drive and installing Win 7 Ultimate x64 on this laptop model?  I assume I could pick up the needed Win 7 drivers from the Dell site.  Please advise.

A:Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series 7559 - Install Windows 7

It can be done, but because Microsoft removed the ability to boot Windows 7 USB media on Skylake platform system (which your system is), it is going to require the preparation of a new set of boot media -- you cannot simply make a Windows 7 or 7-SP1 boot medium and do the install.  It isn't a trivial exercise.  And because Windows 7 lacks support for the advanced power management of the Skylake platform, the system will run hotter and with reduced battery runtimes.
You might be better off doing a clean install of Windows 10 including the anniversary update (the ISOs are available from Microsoft) than in downgrading to Windows 7.  Also, unless you have 10 Pro, you don't have downgrade rights so you'll need to have an unused license key for Windows 7 (they're no longer legally available for sale).

So I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 17 7000 series laptop and was super stoked.
Then I got home and noticed it has a lot of audio problems.  
When I plug in my external speakers I get a sharp, loud, startling crackling noise when I sometimes change windows.
More importantly, my external speakers are not working with this Dell.   The subwoofer has NO SOUND coming out at all.  The non-subwoofer speakers seem to work fine.

I tried downloading both audio drivers that were mentioned by the verifed answer in the thread here  but I get this error message each time:
Some one please help!  I spent too much on this Dell to get this problem.  Every laptop I've boughten has worked perfectly out of the box except this Dell.

I recently purchased a Wacom Bamboo Ink Stylus from Best Buy when purchasing my new Dell Inspiron 17 7000 Series laptop based on their claim that it was compatible with this laptop.  However, I can get it to connect and open the windows ink workspace apps but I can't seem to get it to actually work as a pen on the touchscreen.  Is there something that I'm doing wrong or is it not actually compatible?  Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated.

A:Wacom Bamboo Ink Stylus and Dell Inspiron 17 7000 Series

This is a touchscreen notebook - not a true digitizing tablet.  You can use a capacitive stylus (these generally have a broad, soft rubber tip), but not a true active stylus - the ink features/pressure sensitivity that come with a true digitizing screen are not present on your system.
Very few 17" systems are going to have a true wacom (or equivalent) digitizer -- not many 15" ones do, either.  You will find much more choice in the 12-13" market - if you're looking for it from Dell, the only model you'll currently find is the XPS 13 9365.

Has anyone used an Inspiron 13 7000 touchpad two-finger scroll gesture and also compared it to a Surface Pro 3?
I've been using the Inspiron 13 for months but just reformatted Windows on a Surface Pro 3 last night and wow - the 2-finger scroll responsiveness is virtually instant on that device.  On the Inspiron it always seems to take a bit of time to get going.

Hello.
We purchased a new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series less than a month ago.
- Last week the screen started flickering. If flickered even at bios/before os. Laptop is dual boot and issue persists in Windows and Linux.
- All windows updates appears to be installed including driver and bios updates (now at 1.2.4) according to the Dell update utility.
- As of this morning the laptop boots to black screen and now is only usable with an external monitor. There are no beeps at boot or visual warnings in Windows. Latest Intel and Nvidia drivers have been installed. Laptop has been restarted several times to no avail. Currently running full diagnostics from F12 at boot. No error found yet and have 3hrs 22 min left.
- I've darkened the room and shone a torch on the laptop screen in case it is just a back light issue but am unable to see anything on the laptop screen, only usable with external monitor. Windows display settings gives the options to extend/duplicate displays so this makes me believe Windows is able to detect the laptop screen.

Hi,I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series laptop around about November time last year, and after a BIOS update a couple months ago or so it now will randomly go to a black screen, but the backlight is still on. The BIOS update being near the time that this began to happen may be a coincidence, but it was the only real change during this period.On this black screen, I have no cursor and none of the buttons on my keyboard do anything. The only solution I've found is to hold in the power button to shut the whole system down. 
There doesn't seem to be a particular pattern as to when this problem occurs, it will just randomly go black.
This has happened around about 6/7 times in the past few months. All the events did occur late at night though (past midnight). However, this could just be because I usually sit on my laptop longer at night time, and therefore that increases the chances of it happening.
Due to many "Black Screen Crashing" problems with Windows 10 - that aren't the same as my problem - a google search did not help.

Try system diagnostics to see if it finds any problem in the components:

Press F12 after power on
Select diagnostics.

You can also check Windows Event Viewer for any error message that was logged when the black screen crash happened.

Yesterday my dell computer would not come on. When I hit the power button the keyboard would light up but the screen would not start. The computer was completely charged and the power cord works with no problems. It does not have a battery pack so I let the battery completely drain overnight. When I tried to turn the computer on again after 3 attempts of holding down the power button it finally rebooted. While my computer is working now I am concerned that this may happen again and that next time my computer will not start at all. Any suggestions or recommendations as to what could have caused this problem and how to prevent it from happening again. I completely love my touchscreen dell and would hate for it not to work!

It could have simply been a program or utility hanging the system.  Holding down the power button for a couple minutes should have fully shut down the system allowing you to boot, but baring that, you either have to remove the battery or wait until it is fully discharged.
I do suggest running diagnostics just to make sure that this isn't and indicator of possible hardware failure.
Please check here for more information on how to run diagnostics.  Please let me know what you find out.

I have Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series laptop, recently I came up with having trouble with the keyboard, it behaves oddly. The "tab" key acts as windows key, "windows key" acts as "letter v" key..some keys are not working at all.. The behavior that I found is , every time I update BIOS with the update from Dell Site, the keyboard starts working..but the next day (shutting down and accessing the system the other day), the same thing happens. I have to re-update the BIOS to make the keyboard work

I bought a Dell Laptop, Inspiron 7000 Series off amazon. Was trying to find a direct email but wanted to know my options. I bought this laptop less then a couple weeks ago off amazon. Its really amazing other then the fact that its screen seems not very durable but it works. There is quite a bit of backlight bleeding on the bottom edges of the screens which is specially noticeable when the screen is black. Upon closer inspection i see, about 1-2 dead pixels upon the edge. I dont know if the dead pixel(s) are to much of a deal seeing how its literally on the edge, but the light bleeding seems to be very noticeable.

Sorry for the poor image quality but you can see the blotchy light at the bottom of the screen, all across the bottom. There is a slight bit on the edges of the right edges too.Is there a way to fix this? What are my options? It makes me pretty concerned and I guess a bit insecure.
Previous to this laptop, one was shipped to me, worse conditions, completely damaged. The entire 1/4th of the screen was dead and blocked out. Had to ship it back.

Contact the seller and arrange a return of the system - there's no sense having a screen replaced on a brand-new system (which which your description makes clear you'll never be happy).
If this system is from the same seller, get a refund and buy elsewhere.

I was playing a video game on my laptop around 4:30, when the keyboard suddenly stopped working. The mouse still functioned, so I tried clicking around to see if it was just a problem with the game. Then at 4:32, the mouse stopped working, too. I decided to try turning it off, but neither holding nor pressing the power button worked, so I unplugged the laptop from the charger and left it to run out of power on it's own. At 4:35, the display froze. I know this, because up until then the clock was still working. Currently, the vent fan is still running, and the screen is frozen. No keyboard buttons work, and neither the built-in trackpad nor an HDMI mouse is working.  Is there anything I can do to fix this, or do I need to send it in?The laptop was a brand new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series, with Nvidia GeForce GTX and an Intel Core i7.

The Hard Drive on my second new Inspiron 17 7000 Series 2-in-1 just died. The first one only lasted 3 days. The second one lasted 13 days.  Is anyone else having a lot of problems with the hard drives in these systems? The system hasn't been jarred (it hasn't even left my living room).
The first issue was I received, this message popped up on the Dell Logo screen:
Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete.
After more than 24 hours I gave up and exchanged it for a different one.
The second hard drive gave me this error:  Error Code:  2000-0142   Validation: 83350
Is anyone else experiencing pre-mature deaths with their hard drives on these 2 in 1's?
I'm wondering is it:
Low quality Hard Drives
Design issues (like drives getting too hot, they were left both running overnight)
Bad Luck (if it weren't for Bad Luck, I'd have no luck at all).
I'm just trying to decide if I should exchage it for a third replacement or if I should move on to a different system.

My Inspirion 15 - 7000 Series 7559 is still under the 1 year normal warranty.

The plastic around the left hinge of the laptop seams to have given away and they computer starts to crack up and open when you want to move the screen to open or close it.

I have informed myself on the issue and it seams that Another 20 people have the SAME issue with this dell Inspiron 15 7000 7559 model:  The plastic around the hinge opens up!
Here is the Record of that forum :


 It seams that dell made a sticky post saying hinges are not covered by the warranty. And that the issues is caused by physical damage. the computer is in mint condition and has been taken care  and of course never been drop.

I just a bought a new laptop yesterday, DELL Inspiron 15 7000 Series Model 7537, with windows 8 installed, I checked the laptop and surfed the internet a bit, I checked the windows 8.1 in store and it showed me that I have to update my windows first in order to download this 8.1 update, i decided to update the windows.
When i started the windows update, it showed me there were 112 updates there, i clicked on download the updates, but none of them seemed to work, however I searched around and found that I must turn off the metered connections limit download. However, the updates seemed to download and after downloading around 70 updates i decided to restart my laptop.
My laptop restarted with a dell logo, and right after that a blank screen, and after a while a cursor.
I have been restarting my laptop since yesterday and to no aid, a blank screen is showed and nothing else happens. I tried to enter BIOS setup to boot from the other D drive recovery, but I am unable to enter the BIOS setup.
I try to press F8, F12, F2, F10, to enter BIOS or atleast start the automatic windows recovery, but nothing seems to be working.
I spent a lot of my hard earned money to buy a new laptop with a new windows, and this is really frustrating, any help would be highly appreciated.

I am having the same problem and bought the computer in Feb 14.  Got the "you can purchase a software support since your warranty is up after 90 days" from tech support, that is not right.  Would be interested if you get a solution.

Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with the Realtek microphone in Skype.
The symptoms are as follows:
Shortly after beginning of the conversation the other party cannot hear my voice. Video is fine, the voice of the other party is also fine.
When this happens the microphone green bar in Options/audio settings will not be seen when speaking into it.
However I can hear what's spoken into the microphone in the local speakers.
I uninstalled the microphone in manager, re-installed the driver, did not help.
Uninstalled the Realtek hi-def audio driver. This helped first but then after 4 minutes talking the problem returned again.
 
I can see that when this happens the speaker icon in 
Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\manage audio devices\recording\microphone\microphone properties\levels
is crossed out. If I uncross it and put boost and level above zero the other party can hear me again.
This happens spontaneously, by itself. Even without Skype running, so this is why I think it might be a driver problem.
 
Any ideas? (please no "reinstalled driver" advice - has done so multiple times)

Methinks it is solved. Ran malware bytes, cleaned up stuff, rebooted.
Works now.
PS. It's my dad's computer....McAffee does not help much, especially when "you are your best antivirus" strategy is not followed :)

I bought the laptop mentioned in the title, the Inspiron 17 7559, a little under 3 months ago for school as well as some gaming.  A couple days before I spoke with tech support the cpu fan (fan on left side if you're looking at the top of the laptop and are in front of it) began making a horrible grinding/squealing noise.A little background: before going to school, I spent a decade as field technician on both military advanced electronic systems and production-class robotics systems.  So I opened the back panel just to glance at the fan, see if maybe there was a glaring physical abnormalities, as  the fan was clearly grinding on something and when it kicked into high would be scraping fast and hard enough to produce this noise.
I open the back cover, a screw falls out from its happy little home (which is, needless to say, both Not A Good Thing and Ominously Foreboding), followed by the shorn threading which had come from another screw.  Also, three or four  screws were VERY loose.  Which explained why the case had begun to separate near where the monitor pivots attach to the case.  Completely structural screws.  I tightened those up a bit, but didn't mess with any screws in the component housing area, as thos can have specific torque settings and such, and overtightening can do real damage.  As for the fan, its sitting a millimeter or so lower in its housing than the other, and even the slight spinning it did while I t... Just purchased 2 in 1 Inspiron i7 7000 which has a 1tb hard drive and and 120gb SSD.  After set up it seems to have installed Windows on the 1tb hard drive which is designated as C: and the SSD data designated as D: drive is empty.
I tried to speak to Dell - long distance hard to hear conversation - and they seemed to say this was right. And that there was only one hybrid drive with partitions?
Other literature suggests there are in fact two separate drives. And that Windows should be on the SSD.
Is that right?  And if so how do I fix it? There is nothing else of importance on computer so drives can be wiped etc.

Dear All,
I have just brought a Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming 7567 with a PCI SSD hard disk, and wanted to add a 4TB 2.5 15mm hard disk as a second drive.  will the 15mm fix the drive bay, I can not find any information on the the size of drive that the drive bay will hold ?

You need a drive 7 mm or slimmer in height.
A 15 mm drive won't fit the system.
