CBS log, corrupted files.

Q: CBS log, corrupted files.

Hi i ran sfc/scannow, and it found corrupted files but couldn't fix them. The attached CBS log apparently has more details. Nothing major at all, but could someone tell me about CBS logs, and if i have any serious issues. If issues found could someone describe them. Thanks love this place. Nothing that bothering im just curious

Preferred Solution: CBS log, corrupted files.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Unwanted encoding messages on opening MSWord files. Inability to open MSExcel files and picture files. Apparently corrupted files?I am having problems opening .doc and .xls and .jpg files in some (but not all) folders in my folder tree, e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\My Documents\Folder X. However, Folders Y and Z are apparently unaffected. This has arisen only recently. My system is Windows XP (Home), and SP2 upgraded to SP3.MSWORD EXAMPLE:- On opening a Word file (whether from Word or from Windows Explorer) I receive this dialog box;"File Conversion - (filename).doc""Select the encoding that makes your document readable." The already selected button is "Other encoding" and the suggested code is "Japanese". The preview pane shows only an array of characters, all the same.On trying to select the button "Windows (Default)", the preview changes to a continuous array of lower-case xxxxxxx. On returning to the "Other encoding" option and trying "Auto-Select", the selected code returns itself to "Japanese" with the display as already noted above. On returning to the "Other encoding" option and trying "Western European (Windows)", the display reverts to the Windows Default style as already noted above, lines of xxxxxxx. This sounds like it might be a malware infection.

Hello all,

My copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on my laptop has been having some strange issues lately. I cannot run .msi files, and device manager never populates a full list. Sometimes (rarely, but it does repeat) Windows Explorer will freeze, and if I attempt to close it and reopen it using task manager, the UI reloads, but whenever I click on a folder it claims Windows cannot load explorer. Restarting fixes that. I scheduled and ran CHKDSK, and it repaired a few bad sectors, but it didn't fix any of these problems. I have run CCleaner (both the regular cleaner and registry fixer) and defragmented my hard drive until it's only 1% fragmented. I then tried sfc /scannow, and it read a bunch of corrupted files but could not repair them. I read that to fix sfc, you must download and run Windows System Update Readiness Tool. It has been running and "Searching for Updates on this Computer" for about an hour now, and I'm getting concerned that it's just not doing anything. It's not frozen, the bar keeps moving from left to right and I can click on and off of it. I also have the logs from sfc if anyone wants to take a look at them, they'll be attached. The computer isn't very old, and has an intel i3 and 4gb of ram. If you would like any extra information to help, please reply and I'll get back to you as fast as I can Any recommendations on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for any and all help!

A:Many corrupted Windows7 files, SFC reads corrupted data but doesnt fix

Hi Qujibo,
First comment you said ran ccleaner REGISTRY cleaner, this is not advised, unless you know what your doing

If there is an UNDO backup from that utility RUN it.

SURT can quite easily run for a couple of hours.

There are a lot of Winsxs errors in your log.

AFTER surt has run

So, I reformatted my computer again. Did some SFC scans before I installed any Microsoft updates and all scans were clean. Did all the updates, drivers, program installations. Couple days later I decide to check with SFC and found some errors. There's also errors at the source, meaning I can't replace them correct? This seems kind of stupid. Always having corrupted files no matter how many times I reformat.

Hi. Two days ago, I transfered a large amount of files, mostly music, from an external hardrive onto my laptop. Today, I noticed an error message shown with a triangle next to the clock on my screen saying "aolload.exe - Corrupt File." I ignored this, and later got this message for various other programs. I finally decided to try running chkdsk through the command prompt, and then I got a "Corrupt File" message for this program.

This is very bothersome, is there anything I can do?

A:Corrupted Files, Chkdsk Also Corrupted.

If you have access to a Windows XP CD, boot from the disk and choose the option to use Recovery Console by pressing R
Choose your windows installation (if more than one listed)
Enter your Administrator account password. This is not necessarily the same password you use to login. If you do not know the password for this account, try pressing ENTER (i.e. Use a blank password)

Run CHKDSK from the command prompt.

N.B. Disconnect all external hard drives\flash drives before booting from the CD, as they often get labelled C: over your hard drive.

Hi tonedef -

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!

What version of Office are you trying to install (e.g, 2003 or 2007)?

Have you changed any file permission settings or "Taken Ownership" of any folders/files?

The "scan disk" that you mentioned running... was it "sfc /scannow"? If not, click on START | type cmd.exe in the Start Search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select Run as Admin

In the screen that comes up type the following:

sfc /scannow (space after sfc) - press ENTER

Let this run. Try Office re-install.

Good Luck. . .

Hi there,
I'm writing this for a friend who cannot do much on his computer at the moment. It is saying that the files are all corrupted and when we attempted to run svc /scannow and look at the log file, after a restart it won't allow us to view said log file saying that the file is corrupted. The command prompt also listed that there were files corrupted that were also unable to be fixed.

C:\Program Files\Common Files is corrupted. How do I fix this?
Whenever I startup my computer I get error messages about the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files is corrupt. I cannot access the folder because it says it is corrupted or unreadable and tells me to run CHKDSK.

I am running Windows Vista 64 Bit.

I ran CHKDSK and ended up with this.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...t/Untitled.jpg

I did some more research and found out about CHKDSK F and did that and selected for it to run on computer restart. I than restarted my computer and it did a normal restart and did not run CHKDSK. Now I am stuck.

I can't install iTunes or anything.

A:files gone and system files corrupted

Use the info in link below to trouble shoot and repair. You may want to first eliminate malware as the problem.
Boot Critical File Is Corrupt: Fix For Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1
To eliminate malware as the cause of the problem:
Please follow the instructions in the Malware Removal and Log Section Preparation Guide starting at Step 6.
If you cannot complete a step, then skip it and continue with the next.
In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running FRST which will create two logs.
When you have done that, post your logs in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team.Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log(s) along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. If you cannot produce any of the required logs...start the new topic anyway. Explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happened when you tried to create them. A member of the Malware Removal Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer.
After doing this, please reply back in this thread with a link to the new topic so we can close this one.
DO NOT bump your new topic. Wait for a response from one of the Team Members.

I just has a big issue with my computer at home and I had to backed everything up into a usb to make a clean install
now the usb shows the same three files in pretty much all folders and I can't erase them and I can't see the rest of the files that are supposed to be in those folders....

I've been trying to change attibutes but id doesn't let me...
now another weird thing is that one folder... apparently the first one in the tree with the issue, shows two "." and ".." folders...

I try to run chkdsk but I'm not sure under what option... and in every single folder it that those three files appear it says something like the first allocation unit is not valid and that the entry will be truncated.

Please help... I would really like to recover all my newborn pictures

A:corrupted files same three files in all folders, can't del

Always do backups, and always do some type of check later to see if the backuped data actually backed-up.

Sounds like the USB is kinda fried. They recommend that when you pull it from the computer, you're supposed to go down to the "safe uninstall" icon on the task bar on the right side first. Sometimes I don't bother. I would just put the computer to sleep for 5 secs, and remove the USB while it's asleep.

Did you already perform the clean install? If not, then the people at the major electronics chain- Tech service department can try to fish out the data for you. I would say the same thing for the USB, but IMO, there is less hope for that option.

I am trying to find out how to, if there is such a way, to repair corrupted text, rtf, and doc files. The files were all created on another computer, another operating system, with older office programs, etc. An example of what my documents look like now:
’]P• Aˆb• hH54%ž!d<”PM‹‡ ƒPBJ!† Ei•C'kyœ?&#Hr_•DO2Ps-’x’†ŸGcd˜hQ…€
and so on. There are dozens of my files that look like this now, and many of them I spent many long hours compiling originally.
Does anyone have any idea of how to get back the original data on these files, or know of a software program that might actually work at restoring the original data?
I'd very much appreciate any help on this. Many of these files were for a book I have been writing for several years.
Thank you.

A:Corrupted .txt, .rtf, .doc etc files

If you can tell us what OS and what program was used, what OS and programs you are using now AND (if you don't mind) attach a whole example - preferably rtf and not too large.

We might be able to tell from the document structure what is going on.

In the meantime, don't try playing with any of them.

I moved the "My Documents" folder with all my good stuff on it folder over to my 200GB and reinstalled windows XP etc on the 80GB. Got windows running (eventually) but the folder that i moved over to the 200gb was not reconizable after i did all this. I rebooted and chk disk ran automatically. It found all these files and said something to the effect of "Restoring Orpahned files to folder 41258 etc etc". It ran through this for about 1/2 hr. After it finished booting I was able to see all the files and folders on the 200GB. The problem is now, that some of them dont work and some of them do. Also changed the 80GB from FAT32 to NTFS.

A:corrupted files?

There are many things that can corrupt files on a drive:

Hard drive age
Viruses and other malware

and the list goes on.

As for what can happen, picture files, MP3s, documents etc shouldn't have much impact. They just won't open, or will partially work. As for DLL and executable files...well, that depends on what other files require them to work.

Hello everyone!
Something horrible happened today! When I turned on my laptop, I noticed that all (almost all) my txt, pdf, mp4, ... files are not working.
svchost.exe -k netsvcs was running like crazy in the background and my ssd working like crazy too.
I think somehow windows 8 is encrypting my files.
To test the things, I created a text file with the content "test". I mean, I typed "test" and then saved the file. At first, it was ok, I mean, every time I double-clicked it, it showed "test" but after a few minutes, when I double-clicked it again, I got these in the file:

A repository of all current knowledge regarding CryptoWall, CryptoWall 2.0 & CryptoWall 3.0 is provided by Grinler (aka Lawrence Abrams), in this tutorial: CryptoWall and DECRYPT_INSTRUCTION Ransomware Information Guide and FAQReading that Guide will help you understand what CryptoWall (including versions 2.0 & 3.0) does and provide information for how to deal with it. Cryptowall typically deletes all Shadow Volume Copies with vssadmin.exe so that you cannot restore your files via System Restore or using a program like Shadow Explorer...but it never hurts to try. At this time there is no fix tool and Decryption of any CryptoWall Files...is impossible since there is no way to retrieve the private key that can be used to decrypt your files without paying the ransom. There is also a lengthy ongoing discussion in this topic: CryptoWall - new variant of CryptoDefense Support & Discussion Topic.Rather than have everyone start individual topics, it would be best (and more manageable for staff) if you posted any questions, comments or requests for assistance in that topic discussion.ThanksThe BC Staff

I lost some MOV files that i was editing using Cyberlink Power Director. It was footage i had filmed of my new baby daughter in the first few weeks of coming home from hospital. I managed to recover the lost files but now some of them won't work. I get the message:
Cannot play this media file. The file is either corrupt or the application does not support the format you are trying to play.
Is there anything i can do to fix these or have i lost these precious memories?

Recently after moving and using different internet than I have before whenever I download a rar file, more often than not, when it comes to extracting it I get a CRC error. It's too big a coincidence that this many of the rars I download are are corrupt files for it not to be something to do with my new internet set up here.

Any ideas as to what could be doing this? It's a new ISP and a new router.

A:RAR files being corrupted

I've never seen that on a consistent basis. I don't use a router.

Can you bypass the router temporarily to see if it persists?

If this is from newsgroups, are any repair files offered (PAR files)?

Can you try another app to unpack the RARs??

If you are just downloading something from an average website and it happens time after time on many different websites, I'd have to assume it is a local problem, not related to your ISP.

I recently had a laptop shut down because the power outlet pin was broken and I didn't know it. The shop was able to take out the H.D. and I was able to copy over to an external drive all the important docs, pics, music, video etc.

HOWEVER, now I cannot backup to CD any of the files on the external. They all appear to be "OK" - I have opened pictures, opened excel files etc.

I would just like to get a backup copy of what we put on the external but it fails and says there are "too many errors". Any ideas on how to fix this.

What happens when you copy 1 or a few at a time?
You may be trying to copy too much (Gigs) in one shot, and Windows just runs out of resources

I've noticed running CCleaner helps when this happens

Dear All,

I have a windows 7 PRO 64 Bit in my domain. We are using office 2010 Professional and Acrobat reader as our standard PDF reader.

One of our systems started showing an issue today morning, all the documents ( .docx. .xlsx, pdf ) in the system got corrupted. When we try to open the file its saying that the file is corrupted.

It was working fine till yesterday evening. I did run a full system scan on Kaspersky rescue disk. But it didn't come up with any virus attack.

Can anyone please help me?

I have several problems with windows 7 64 bit home premium.

1. the windows installer is not posting application installs. I see dates in the control panel of install but no volume/meg counts. I have one program I use all the time -fenderfuse - and I cannot get it to work. Most everything else is okay as I installed them a while back and these programs are working.
2. I found 4 virus's yesterday and the virus checker could not put them in the vault so I was able to delete them.
3. The virus detector wanted to check all my boot files. It found several corrupt boot files items and could not repair them. I was able to deleted them
4. When I check users, rose - application data is missing.
5. I downloaded windows performance kit and windows sdk v7,1
6. I believe someone told me to do this so that I can fix my problems but not sure what to do and I didn't put the tech site in my favorites folder so I'm not happy with myself.
7. I do see some debugging tools for windows .64 so I will check that out.
8. I also have microsoft silverlight installed.

I have some experince with windows problems thought not as much with windows 7. But I have a feeling that I get better knowledge once I get some help. I also wrote down some of the errors

I went into event viewer and I have audit events that have dropped. Kewrnal event tracing failed. Several homegroup logs failed to start.
Any help will be appreciated.

I'll give a list of what I use and if they don't work, I also keep my entire hard drive
backed up on an exterior hard drive.

1. Error Checking- CD not needed
Start - my computer - right click local disk (C) - properties - Tools Tab -
Error checking section - Check now - check mark both boxes - Start -
This requires a restart to begin.

2. Start - Run - type - sfc /scannow - OK
Don't forget the space between c and /
You will need the Recovery CD if any thing is found wrong.
Not sure what CD would be needed for Windows 7
Their are 3 Install CD
Don't insert unless asked for.
Repair Disc
Start - Control Panel - Backup and Restore - at the left top corner -
Create a System Repair Disc - It may say DVD but a CD works OK
With the Repair Disc in the tray, Restart your computer and be ready
to press any key when asked.
If it doesn't find and fix right off than click next and follow directions
from the list that should come up.

This is a fresh install of Windows 10 and when i run sfc/scan now i get the message that there is corrupt files.

Ive done a reset and a in Place upgrade both which failed to fix the problems.

I've ran some commands in command promt, can't remember the one, but one is like restore health and they fail.

I have no idea how to fix these corrupt files

A:sfc - corrupted files but could not fix them.

The sfc scan, you need to run in an elevated command prompt and may have to run it 3 times with reboots in between each time. What error message did you get when you ran the Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth ? If you got the message that it couldn't locate the source, you need to mount the ISO file, or put the installation media in and look in the sources file for either the install.wim or install.esd, whichever you have. Then, for instance if your ISO or media was assigned the drive letter D and you find you have an install.wim, for example run the command
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:D:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess
Or, if you find you have an install.esd run the command

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:esd:D:\Sources\Install.esd:1 /limitaccess

I run win8.1 upgraded from 8.0 via win updates. My original disc is for win 8.0. I ran an sfc scan and found that I have some corrupted windows system files (see scan atth). My problem is I cannot download fast as I have a slow cell tower connection. I was able to download the Win Media Creation Tool for 8.1 after four days and nights solid but then found out I cannot reboot from the usb unless I originally had 8.1. The update I think I need to reinstall is that dreaded massive update KB3000850 a massive 400 MB file which I cannot download.
How can I otherwise fix the win sys files without an installation disc of some kind while not being able to download an update?
I know it sounds crazy but I live in the Philippines and fast connection times are unknown here mainly.
I have not tried to reboot via the usb since I heard I could not. I thought I would check first and see if you think it will work.
Thanks, Dave

A:How to fix Win Sys Corrupted Files

Hi Dave Leonard,

Welcome to the 8forums.

You may want to try DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in an admin command prompt.
I'm not sure how long this would take with your internet, but the file that is needed for offline is a few times larger then 400MB.

Ran a sfc /scannow today, got a message that said Windows had found corrupted files, but couldn't fix all of them. I need someone more computer-savvy to look over them and tell me which ones weren't fixed and how I might go about fixing/deleting them. I have the CBS log, just say the word and I'll post it.

Hi everyone
My sony vaio ( Windows 7 home premium 64bit) has internet connection issues lately. Heres what happens:
My signal strength is 100% but when i open any program(Ex: Yahoo Messenger) or any internet browser it simply says that the webpage cannot be displayed or its not available. However, i am able to connect online with IE 64bit.

So since i dont know ANYTHING AT ALL about computers :3 , i was wondering if you guys could help me out by telling me how to fix these *little* problems ^~^ before i go crazy and smack someone in the head with my laptop (jk o -o) but whatever =3.
Thanks for your time ^~^

Where do I start? I guess I'll start with the OS, I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 2

Background in quote:

The CMOS BIOS keeps getting corrupted almost every time the PC is turned off. I have to set the date and time each time the PC boots. I tried changing the internal battery, but problem still persists. (It's possible that the new battery might not be really new). I eventually got used to it too.

Well, one day, I forgot to set the date, and I updated AVG, from whence it stopped working properly. Upon reinstalling, there is a warning at the end of installation saying "Unregistering of product failed". When I try to update AVG again, it says "Could not initialize update interface". So now, I'm stuck with old definitions of AVG. Note that this is not my complaint atm. I don't use my desktop PC, so I just ignored this problem for the time being.

There are 4 users on my PC and for security and convenience reasons, I made another limited user into an administrator. Maybe this was a mistake, for after some time (a couple of days or even instantly? I was not using the PC much), the limited users had a problem of explorer.exe not starting. The cursor shows up and nothing happens. I tried bringing up Run from the Task Manager and starting explorer. I type 'explorer' in the Run box and hit enter. The box disappears, but explorer doesn't start.

I wanted to make a new limited user and see if this problem pers... Read more

Hi everyone. Need some help. I'm running MSN from Verizons. It runs fine but after a few hours, the area above the address turns black and when I click on one of the icons such as favorites it is black. Also, after a few hours, my e-mail will not come up and I get a lot of shutting down messages. I called both Verizon and MSN and both said I have corrputed software and need to take it to a technician. I will need to delete MSN and then one of the techs i talked to gave me "g.msn.com/1c19partnerenus/vx02inst". I like to think I can do this myself since I built the computer. How should I go about fixing this??? I'm running Windows XP.

If it all runs fine for a while, it sounds like hardware more than software, to be honest.

Check all temperatures.
