I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm running Word 2013. Up till a week or so it worked fine, but now it freezes completely whenever I try to save or save as a document, new or modified, in my C:\Users\Tom\Documents folder, even though it does seem to save or save as correctly if I choose subfolders in ...documents or other separate folders.

I have tried running Word in safe mode. No help.

I have done a complete repair using control panel/programs...no help. It seemed to have uninstalled MS Office 2013 completely and reinstalled it completely, and nothing improved. One minor problem I have with this is that I've lost my product key from the original version, and I can't retrieve it from Dell, where I bought the machine, so I can't activate the reinstalled MS Office 2013! It'll run till next Tuesday, then it'll be dead. My bad, but that's not what's causing me this grief.

I have checked the hard drive with AVG PCTuneup disk doctor and found no errors. I've defragged with that routine also; no help.

I've tried running Word with and without first launching any browser. The problem occurs whether or not I've launched a browser.

To my untrained eye, it seems as if whenever I try to point Word to my normal ...documents folder, to retrieve a doc stored there so I can work on it, or save a new doc there that I've just created, or "save as" a doc I've retrieved from a different folder, Word can't find that spot on my hard drive. But i... Read more

I am trying to get BGInfo to use custom fields with the WMI Query to hide the network adapters not in use from showing "none" many times on the screen.
I have used the following query:
IP  Address
WMI Class: Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration   Class Property: IPAddress
WMI Query:
SELECT IPAddress FROM Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration WHERE IPEnabled=True AND NOT description LIKE "%VMware%" AND NOT description LIKE "%Virtual%"
After using this custom field and deleting the default IP Address field, the results show properly during the current session.  After rebooting the computer, the IP Address field shows correctly the IP Address for 5 seconds then changes to <IP Address>
after the network card initializes or something else happens to it.
Would someone please help to offer advice how to make this change permanent so the IP address displays properly.

When our website users click on an html attachment embedded on a web-page in IE9, the download manager will not display the "Open" option. It will only display "Save" and "Cancel" which our users don't like, having to save the
html document in a folder to open it. Whereas, when downloading attachments like pdf, word etc. all three options are displayed.

Is there any setting to tweak , which will display all the 3 options for HTML attachments as well?

A:IE9 download manager will not display "Open" option (only "Save" and "Cancel" is displayed) for downloading HTML documents.

As you know, the Open-Save-Cancel dialog box helps you prevent your computer from affecting by virus while downloading.
So I suggest you test to reset all zones to a lower level temporarily and then please attempt to download this html attachment again.

However, since you can normally download the other documents, I suspect there is some restriction in the website which you are trying to view. I recommend you to contact the administrator of that website if possible.
could you please send me the link of the website from where you are trying to download the html attachment?

I have Win xp and two days ago I booted the computer to use Excel. I found that I now have about a 30 second delay anytime I try to open a file by clicking on the "look in" box, when I try to save by accessing the "save in" box or even typing in a web address in the open box in a web browser. This occurs in all programs (Word, Excell, IE etc.). I have been experiencing more than normal pop ups. Things were working pretty well three evenings ago; but, the next morning I ran into this problem. The computer was turned off over night. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Having had no luck posting to the Business Applications Forum...

My question pertains to MS Access/Office:

How can I make a separate copy of the "Window" submenu item in a custom menu bar that will allow the user to switch from window to window but do nothing else without also removing the other options (tile, cascade arrange, etc) from the "Window" submenu item in the standard menu bar?

In my app I want to restrict the things that a user can do so I created my own, pared-down versions of the standard menu bar and tool bar and turn off the standard ones upon startup. I want to add the "Window" submenu to my custom menu bar. In this custom version of the window submenu, I don't want to be able to tile, arrange, or hide/unhide, I simply want a list of visable windows and to be able to choose one of them to be the active window.

I know how to put a new submenu item in a custom menu and how to insert menu items into it but I don't know how to add this un-named capability to my custom "Window" submenu without affecting the options showing in the Window submenu item in the standard toolbar.

I tried copying the existing Window submenu from the standard menu bar onto my own custom menu bar by ctrl-dragging it, but rather than creating a new instance of the windows submenu, it apparently only created a new pointer or shortcut to the existing window submenu item because when I went to delete the tile/cascade/hide/etc items from th... According to my download history (which I have cleared following other attempted solutions) my last download was 7 days ago. Since then, I have been unable to download files without using a non-browser download manager (I went through a complicated process of transferring a download manager from a USB to see if that fixed the problem - it did insofar as that the download manager works as a replacement for the browser's downloading options). I mainly use Chrome (latest version) but the problem has persisted as I attempted on both Firefox and Internet Explorer (also latest versions). I first noticed this when attempting to use "right-click -> save image as" on a forum which has always and still does allow users to save images. I later found that this inability extends to any file I click to download. Clicking on a file or on "save as" causes nothing to happen, whether I have a download folder set or not, and persists even when changing my download folder, reinstalling Chrome, and clearing my download history, cache, and cookies, as the most common fixes suggest. This issue is also true for clicking on any sort of "Browse..." or "Choose file..." button for uploads, such as when attaching a file to an email or a forum post. The window to select a file simply does not appear, however, I am able to drag-and-drop a file for uploading. These buttons and the process of downloading worked fine when restarting in safe mode, which has me theoriz... Read more

I searched for this but I admit I wasn't overly thorough. So I apologise in advance if this has already been answered.

In some programs (eg. Firefox) the save dialogue window has the Navigation pane on the left. Whereas other programs (eg. Foxit reader, acrobat reader) do not. I find this heavily inconvenient as I use the navigation pane extensively.

I actually went to switch to Acrobat from Foxit and found it also didn't have the navigation pane.

Heres what I mean:

Firefox save dialogue window:

Foxit save dialogue window:

So I was wondering if there is anyway to get the navigation pane in the foxit/other programs save dialogue window.

A:Can you add the "Navigation Pane" to a programs save dialogue window?

The program has to do some COM mumbo jumbo to use system libraries. Notice how these articles mention IFileDialog

Anything with an I stuck on the front of it means you have to mess with a bunch of COM stuff to use it. The 'I' being "Interface."

Windows 7 Libraries and the Common File Dialog

Developing with Common File Dialogs
Bacisally, if you're not getting paid big bucks, it's a lot of hassle for no gain.

(The short answer is you can't stick 'em on someone else's program from outside that I ever heard about.)

This is a problem that has bugged me for a long time: any time I want to save a file, in any application EXCEPT Word and Excel, the list of folders in the "Save as.." window is in chronological order instead of alphabetical order. I can always make the order alphabetical by right clicking in the window, and then clicking on "Arrange Icons by > Name."

This isn't much help however, since when I close the application and open it again, the list will appear in chronological order again (newest folder created will appear first). This problem does NOT occur in Windows Explorer

How do I get the folders to appear in alphabetical order? Does anyone else have this problem?

I know that by using recimg, you can make a custom refresh image. And I hear that you cannot use it to reset Windows to factory state. is that so?

if so, how do I do that?

also, is it possible to store the recovery image in a hidden partition. hidden in the sense, the drive letter is not automatically assigned when you refresh/reset Windows, nor can you do it from Disk Management. only from diskpart. however, if i can still use reset while keeping the recovery image in a hidden folder in C: drive, that is still fine i guess.

the thing is, the recovery partition of my Dell Latitude 10 tablet is destroyed (it's Dell's fault though) and even though i can easily recover Windows as I have an iso image and can use the USB to reinstall windows like we normally do on our desktops, i want to sell the tablet and i want to make it recoverable via the recovery features in Windows 8. without the ability to recover, the value of the tablet will be pretty low. if all else fails, i will have to buy a cheap USB flash drive, make it a recovery drive and give it with the tablet. sucks!

it is fine if i have to update to Windows 8.1, if it makes it possible in Windows 8.1 even though it was not in Windows 8.

Maybe contact the computer maker & see if you can get recovery disks.

We generate a lot of pdf files, usually by printing them from whatever application the original content is in.

In Windows 7, the "save pdf file as" window does not pop up on top of other windows making it difficult to print to pdf with several windows open or an app maximized. Some of my less observant users are not seeing it in the task bar and complaining that Acrobat isn't printing or locking up

Hello all

This may seem like a silly thing to care about but one of the best things I like about Win7 coming from XP is the ability to make the window that comes up when you download something much bigger.

Was always a pain to deal with such a small one with XP.

About the only thing is that while it can be dragged larger it won't stay that size for ever and mostly after a complete reboot, it always defaults to about a 1/4 size of the screen window size.

So I was just wondering if there is any kind of a registry hack I can make that sets this size so that I might set the default higher so I don't have to keep re-dragging it so much to get that.

Thanks for any help.

A:Have "save download window" stay large?

This is a good question and something I was wondering the other day as well. Usually window sizes and positions are saved in the Shell/Bag properties in the registry, which makes me wonder why they are resetting.

I haven't tested when it actually resets, but if it resets upon boot, I'm curious as to why, at that point.

I've been able to remove Homegroup's icon from File Explorer, but not from the "save as" menu. Since I disabled the Network icon using the same steps, I've noticed there's a specific registry key for this menu when using 64-bit, and the folder name is the same ({B4FB3F98-C1EA-428d-A78A-D1F5659CBA93}), just in different paths. I've managed to find the supposed key on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID\, but it didn't work. Any solutions?

I don't have Internet Explorer on my system, but from the Firefox perspective, you click on 'Options'~'Applications'...This is where you can specify default actions for various file formats opened with Firefox.

Why is it that when there are a number of same size, same type, same extension files on the same page I want to save to a single folder each "save as" I perform prompts me with a different location instead of remembering the last folder saved to? This is my experience when using Firefox.

On the other hand, while using IE (limited experience) it seems to remember the last saved-to location as long as it's within the same browser session AND same tab. If an image is opened in a new tab (or session) it automatically switches the save-to to the default "Pictures" folder.

I'm assuming since both browsers now act differently than they did with previous OS's (XP and lesser) it must be something inherent in Win7's architecture. Is there any way of changing this annoying behavior without resorting to 3rd party download managers?

Searching this question I was only able to locate a couple Microsoft threads with frustrated and, as yet, unsatisfied users.

A:"Save as" default (most recent) folder always changes

Firefox remembers per site where files were stored, and should save files to that same location by default. If you download a file from http://xyz.com then the next time you download from that site, it should remember where the last file downloaded from that site was saved.

Make sure you don't have FF set to not remember history

Tools> Options> Privacy> History

It should be set to Remember History if you want FF to remember last d/l location.

If you don't want FF to remember history, you might try to add an about:config setting to restore that behavior

Firefox Save Image As Save Per Site Annoyance

In your case, you would want FF to remember per site (true (default) - The last used directory for the website (host) serving the file for download will be preselected in the file picker. If no download directory for the current website has been stored, browser.download.lastDir will be used.)

You could also create a new profile and see if the behavior exists there (assuming you do have Remember History already selected)

I use Windows Explorer numerous times every day. I like to navigate to folders using the folders pane and click on items in main view. I sometimes drill down to folders in the main view to finish my navigation until I'm at the folder I wish to see.

All of the sudden I'm finding that when I click on a folder in the main view, a new Explorer window pops up. I did not change any of my preferences in this regard. I went into the Tools-->Folder Options and saw that "Open each folder in the same window" was still selected, as I'd left it long ago (a couple of years now). So, I switched the radio button to the "Open new folder" option, then switched it back to opening the folders in the same view. I clicked "Apply" and closed Explorer (I did this as a kind of "forced" reset). Then I opened Explorer again, and it's still not obeying this setting.

What's going on? Is this influenced by some other settings location I haven't looked at yet?
AFAIK, this started not long after I had uninstalled IE9 and IE8, rolling back to IE7, then installed IE9 again. I did this to resolve a peculiar issue with certain files marked as corrupt in SFC scannow (turns out it's a defect when going to IE9 from IE8). I do realize that Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer share a lot of the same files. But this is functionality exclusive to Windows Explorer. Really strange...

Hi there, I have a problem and any kind of suggestions or help would be very much appreciated...

I can't not save to Documents folder :( It doesn't matter if I'm on a internet browser and want to download a file, or i'm in Paint trying to save a drawing xD when It asks me to browse a location of where to save... I can go anywhere... "Downloads" folder, "Favorite" folder or any obscure folders I may create BUT whenever I browse the location to save as to the "Documents" folder

So now I can no longer save to that document... However, when I'm using my window explorer I can access that folder without any problems and access files I have in it...

Thank you so much for any suggestions or solutions, I am very frustrated and it means a lot.

XP Home (installed SP2 recently, which MIGHT have something to do with this?).

Just saved two word docs and a bmp file, all separately. All three times I saw that a new location has been added to the Save As drop-down menu. It didn't open to My Documents folder but was in the general folder list of the whole computer. The location was called "FTP File Locations." It's never appeared on the Save As menu before. This made me think of the file/print sharing control, which is now located in the Windows Firewall, but I don't use that Firewall, I turned it off to use Norton. What was FTP Locations? And is there any way to disable file/print sharing without using the Windows Firewall? (These may be the same thing, I don't know.) Also, in Network Connections, I thought I'd find file/print sharing control there, but now XP wants me to run a whole Network Wizard thing..I'm afraid I'll somehow set up a network instead! or enable all kinds of things..I don't want to create a disaster here.

(My son installed an FTP program months ago for work he was doing, but the program was removed. I just searched for it, it's definitely gone.)

This is a stand-alone, non-networked home computer.

P.S. I saved another Word doc and now it's back to opening to My Documents folder as usual..now I can't find the FTP Locations anywhere.

How can I get information into that field? I'd like to enter the name of the DVD containing the backup. Is this possible, or is this field reserved for the system to write values into?

A:How to specify "Backup Method" in a folder window

Hello Paul mate can I ask why you are backing up to DVD's? as most use an image - back up setup.

Anyway if you prefer the DVD method then it is your choice but could you send a pic of what you are seeing because it is hard to visualize what you mean.

hey guys, just today, I noticed that whenever i double click a folder, it opens in a new window.  I went to folder properties, and made sure I checked "Open each folder in the same window," and its checked.  I tried switching it on, then off, then restoring all defaults in both those settings and the view settings, and I've tried restarting the computer, even using a system restore point.  No Matter what, whenever I double click a window, it opens in a new window, but if I use the navigation pane, or if I highlight a window and click the open button at the top left, it opens in the same window.  This is very very very annoying, because just navigating my harddrive, I might end up with 20 windows open to reach just 1 file. Does anyone know what's wrong?  or how I can fix this?

A:"Open each folder in the same window" not working

Hi!I'm not sure if this will help, but you can try:

1.Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
2. Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
3.If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
4.At the command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow
When the scan is complete, test to see whether the issue that you are experiencing is resolved.

Hey everyone,
I am trying to get the REST queries to work with the sharepoint end points instead of graph end points. I first created an app with relevant permissions and have given it the admin consent. Then I am hitting the https://login.microsoftonline.com/<tenant>.onmicrosoft.com/oauth2/token?Content-Type=application/x-www-form-urlencoded end
point with https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com as resource. I am then using the access token retrieved to give the rest call to https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com/_api/v2.0/drives/b!3indYSbqZ0-hVSPnCgIZy-2xDMh7jH9AuQnEzJMc6TEfQoSJvJT-R6tT0lFBQiPr/root/delta
but it is failing with "error":{"code":"generalException","message":"General exception while processing"}}. The REST response code is 401 Unauthorized. I have filed a Microsoft support ticket but they
have asked me to post on these forms. Can someone please help me with this? I am not able to move forward because the error is pretty generic and doesn't give any additional details.

Is the time to "Upgrade from vista to 7 supposed to be wayyy longer then it would to do jsut a clean install? (For example, hanging at 18% for a while while installing during upgrade)

(posting this since i cant get any replies to a previous topic)

A:Install time difference between "Upgrade" and "Custom"

The upgrade process will always be longer, and sometimes considerably. The upgrade process has to move/relocate previous files and keep certain registry entries based on software already installed. Did the upgrade eventually complete? (it's a silly question but you could be dual booting). If not then it could be a bad burn and your systems is taking it's time trying to read the install files from the DVD.

I have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons...

This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct. Any help much appreciated.

Hello Aster, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened may be able to fix it.

Hope this helps,

Hello everyone
Recently, I'm playing Anno 1404 (also called Dawn of Discovery) in my Vista Home Basic 32bit finely until I saw the problem with the "save/load" problem. First, it saves "systematically" but, the save is corrupted to a 5kb file. Second, the game can't load the 'properlly saved' save file, and also the corrupted one also.

Few of the players had the similar problem, and someone said that making another user account works, and I tried and really worked for me. Yes, I can play this way, but all of my files and infos are saved in the Administrator account, and I don't want to switch users just to play that game

Recently I found a useful MS program, which is runas, and found how to run as another account. It asks for the account pw, and everythis was fine, but it doesn't run my game
It just closes the cmd and nothing happens. What could be this problem?
I hope Ubi gives out this fixing patch fast

A:Anno 1404 "save/load" problem and using "runas.exe"

Figured it out with Runasspc program (which also saves the password! )

I just got a new Hewlett Packard computer with Windows XP. The CD drive is a combo CD reader, writer and DVD. The main reason I need it is to backup my many documents, database programs (RootsMagic family history, Quicken, etc.), photographs and drawings. The pre-installed burning program on the computer is Adaptec's (I think) Sonic RecordNow!, which is useless for my needs because of the way it works. The HP tech suggested I download DLA to enable me to use "drag & drop" through Windows Explorer, but I haven't had much luck with that, either. What I need is to be able to use a CD-RW as a giant floppy - to add, delete, copy, edit and move files, just as I do on my regular floppies, using "drag & drop" through Windows Explorer, or "save as...". What software do I need for this? Please use "baby-talk" with me, because I don't understand any of the initials, terms and technical language I see all over these forums. Thanks, Dellasha

A:Data backup and storage to CD-RW's using "Drag & Drop" or "Save as..."

The most versatile program for that is "Nero"
The latest version Nero6 Reloaded is a bit bloated, maybe the NeroMIX will do better for you. Read the specs here: www.nero.com

The part that interests you specifically is InCD.

In any application under Win XP, when I use a Save As or Open dialog box, and click the down arrow next to the location box to search for the folder I want, the application never responds. Usually, I have to click the arrow a couple of times and then it sort of wakes up and responds, or the application crashes (the title bar of the dialog box will say "Not Responding".

Often, in the case of the Save As dialog, it won't say Save As in the upper left corner, only an "S" will appear there.

Seems like a memory issue or else something corrupt in the system. Before I shell out $35 to MS to have them fix something that shouldn't be broken, can anyone help???
