Program Window Restricted Screen Space?

Q: Program Window Restricted Screen Space?

Is there a way to specify certain windows not to occupy a certain area of the screen? For example, when you maximize a window, the bottom edge does not exceed the taskbar at the bottom. Also I have a program at work that does the same thing so I guess its built into some programs. However, I recently got an app called RocketDock (its amazing). Its basically a better taskbar and you can set it for always on top but you cant stop full screen windows from going behind it. Are there apps out there that restrict a space certain program windows can take up and allow the space for others? I searched Google but a program like that is not easy to find. Thanks for your help!

Also I have attached a screen shot the Rocketdock app (looks really cool) and I maximized Wordpad and as you can see, it hides behind Rocketdock. I have two monitors so you can see what it looks like on both.

Preferred Solution: Program Window Restricted Screen Space?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Has any body seen this before, or know what, and why it is?
When I go to add/remove programs I see a blank space.
As I pull the bar down, I see a few programs at the top. Followed by a large blank space. Then finally, as the bar reaches the bottom of the window, I am able to see the rest of the programs.
This "space" is continuously getting larger and larger. If a new program is installed, then the "space grows larger. Notice the pull down bar on the side.
If I click in the blank space, it turns blue.

Thanks in advance

I recently added a 60GB ATA HDD to use as a backup storage drive, although the disc is empty its properties tell me that the total capacity is only 36.8Mb with 9.57Mb used and 27.3Mb free. I have tried formatting the disc but the figures remain the same. Can anyone advise on the reason for this anomaly.

Hello

I did some modification on Windows to regain space on my SSD. Since, one of my 4 monitor does not behave properly. A window enlarge to it's full size, does not use the entire space of the screen. About 1/2 inch in the bottom of the screen is not used. My actual setup is 2 x 21' and 2 x 19' monitors

If I took the same window panel and drag it to one of my other monitor and expand it, all is OK

The faulty monitor is an Acer 203w 19' inch.

I did check the configuration and both 19' inch monitors are set to 1680 X 1050

Is there something else I should check?

Suspicious system popup window "Restricted" asking for username and password (http://client-projects.com)
I'm getting a suspicious system pop up window on random websites (weather.com, walmart.com, etc. no regular pattern noticed) that says "A username and password are being requested by https://client-projects.com (which is hyperlinked, but I have not clicked on it and don't plan to). The site says: "Restricted" and then a space to enter a username and password beneath."  I've run a virus scan with my AVG, and two malware scans with Malaware and Spybot, and nothing major has come up and the popup is still occurring.

When I try to search (Google and Bing) to see what http://client-projects.com is, the search says the website is blocking the search engine's description, which is a big red flag for me.  I've disabled Shockwave in my Firefox, and the pop up appears to have stopped for now, so am updating Shockwave, but I'm still concerned there might be something nasty on my computer.  How can I check further to try to track it down and/or does anyone else have any info on this popup or website?
Info:
Windows 7
Mozilla Firefox
AVG Virus scan
Malawarebytes Anti-Malware
Spybot Search and Destroy
(VS and Malware scans are ran regularly and kept updated)

Hi,

I have recently experienced some strange behavior on my Win XP Pro machine. I had a 'corrupt or missing' hal.dll file that required a repair in order to start back up. Upon start up things have progressively gotten worse.
-My Windows Firewall would randomly get turned 'Off'
-Google Installer and ViewMgr would 'encounter a problem' and then close

Sensing something was clearly wrong, I rebooted and ran MacAfee. MacAfee found elements of the TDS Trojan which were then deleted. The behavior still persisted.

At present, I cannot go to any websites that offer 'online virus scans'. My browsers (IE and Firefox) say the websites are unavailable. I was finally able to load HiJackThis in safemode after renaming the install file.

I have attached the outputs in Safe Mode and after a Normal Boot up.

I appreciate any help/advice that you may be able to provide. Thank you.

Guys, strange issue here, started lately - not sure when exactly, though, probably a couple of weeks maybe four.

I can't make a window wider than about one screen width - 1920px - Windows just won't let me. (it can partially extend to other screens, but the total window width remains)
It used to work, I sometimes look at data where a 4-5000 px wide view is beneficial.
I'm using the 3 screens as one desktop via "nvidia surround", 5760x1200

Anyone got any ideas?

(and I'm sorry if I put this into the wrong forum, feel free to move it)

Thanks in advance!

A:Window width restricted to 1920px (one display width)

Thought someone might be interested, I've found the culprit: it was the nVidia driver.

Hi,
Thanks for all the help. I want to make my shorcuts start programs and windows (In WIndows Xp Pro SP3) at a certain position and with a certain size.

For instance I want to open Excell at position 20,30 (x,y) with a window size of 750 x 200, or maybe a internet explorer window at position 129, 357 with a window size of 562 x 397.

I gave the odd numbers in the example so that people responding will understand that I want CUSTOM SIZES. I know how to set the shortcuts to start maximized and minimized and also window tiling. That's not what I'm talking about. Does anyone know of shortcut switch that I can use?

For instance in some games if you want to start the game with cheats enabled, you put "-devmode" after the directory path in the "target" box of the shortcut properties.

Is there any other way?

There is an awesome program called "Montage3"

Hello,
I have this problem - when I start any program its window appears in background - behind others. Even it is the first program I start its windows is not active and I need to click it to make active.
That issue appeared when I was with Windows 8.1 and after upgrade to Windows 10 remains.

What I have tried - changing the register value of ForegroundLockTimeout to 0 but it didn`t work.

Please if anybody can help with this problem...

A:Starting new program opens program window in background

Hello toc Welcome to the Ten Forums!

With most programs you will find the option to "keep on top of other windows" you check off. That keeps the active window for the particular laying over the top of any others.

Otherwise you may see the top or bottom edge depending on where you have the task bar set for underneath the task bar. If at the top you may have to right click on the task bar properties to check off the auto hide option long enough to either close up or minimize an open window when that happens.

Now as far as going into the registry to start changing things that can lead to more serious problems in a fast hurry. Settings in there often effect multiple things not just one or two programs you may having problems with. Hopefully you create system restore points before proceeding.

It's a hosed 'DisplayIcon' in a registry entry in

The value for DisplayIcon should be a path to an icon file, plus an optional comma-followed-by-a-number. If the optional number is -1, you'll get the big blank. Just search through the key mentioned above for "DisplayIcon", checking the value of each. If you find a ",-1" in any of them, remove the comma and the -1 and you'll be OK

Hello.

My friend has a Lenovo G480 laptop.
She tried installing windows 7 on it, but for some reasons it couldn't detect any drives, so I installed a storage driver. After the installation finished, it shows Disk 1 Unallocated Space with Total Size of 0.0MB.
Here are all the steps I've done:
1. Boot laptop up with Window 7 Disc
2. Follow the installation steps to the "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen with no drive
3. Did a little Googling, went to BIOS and changed SATA controller method from Compatible to AHCI
4. Redid step 1 and 2, no good
5. Did more Googling, downloaded a storage driver from this site: Download AHCI: Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Intel(R) NUC
6. Unzipped content, put them in a USB
7. Redid step 1 and 2 with the USB plugged in
8. Load driver, scanned USB, then installed the only compatible driver for it
9. After installation finished, showed "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen with Disk 1 Unallocated Space with Total Size of 0.0MB

And sorry about there's no images. Can't upload them for some reasons.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I have a Lenovo N580 laptop. Last week, I had to do a factory reset (with help from Lenovo Tech Support) because of compatibility problems with new software from my employer and windows 8.1 which is actually worse than windows 8. The compatibility problems caused my screen to go black. When booting, the Lenovo logo appeared and I had a cursor, but nothing else accept a black screen. I tried suggestions found here and the Lenovo help forum, but none worked and the factory reset was the last resort. Now I am back to using Windows 8 (this was actually the second factory reset due to other problems caused by win 8.1).

Anyway, everything is working (for now) and I also have Classic Shell installed. HOWEVER, before this second factory reset, when I had multiple windows open, aero peek worked fine. Now, it doesn't. I followed earlier suggestions of right clicking the taskbar, then clicking Properties, but the box for "Use Peek ..." is dimmed (grayed out) so I cannot check it to enable aero peek.

I got used to this feature in Win 7 and was glad to see it in Win 8, but it is the only feature about Win 8 and 8.1 that I like. Thanks for your help.

Similarly, if I merely minimize the application, the display stays on the screen, even though in fact the application has been minimized.

Hi,

I am using Windows Internet Explorer XP - Version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803_2158.

Recently I've noticed that I cannot view in full screen anymore. Let me explain. I created a website that lets a user enter their name and social # and then choose a test in 1 of 3 languages. Once you choose a language, a new browser window opens and the test/information is displayed in this new window.

Since end of last year, it worked correctly. A new browser window would open and it would be in full screen mode. You could NOT see the very top of the page - where it gives you the page title, and the options to close the window, or minimize/expand it.

Now, all of a sudden, it displays all that information - title, close option etc. Does anyone know why this is? And how I can put it back to being full screen?

FYI - I think this may have something to do with a service pack upgrade within the last couple weeks but am not positive. Also, I know that lots of people were having issues with the Service Pack 2 and all the bugs.

Can anyone shed any light on this issue and what I can do to fix it?
Thanks.

I have run scans with hitman pro and it show bad files in the downloads folder that were deleted. Any ideas why files deleted would not change storage capacity and why they would show up on scans when there is no evidence of the file in the folder, thanks.

A:Disk Space Program

errors in free space records are due to data corruption, driver issues, or hardware failure.
did you try to run a chkdsk /r from windows?
it will ask you to schedule a scan for reboot and then scan and clean the file system.

Hello all. Last night I got that nasty antivirus 2008 trojan on my computer. Only know that because my spyhunter picked it up. Anyways I deleted it from my computer 4 times. Finally entered into safe mode and found and deleted it all or so I thought. As soon as I went back into normal mode though everything was worse than before. Couldn't access "My Computer" IE would not let me click on any links. A few other things that I can't remember just this second. Anyways as my last resport and possibly not my brightest I decided to use my system recovery discs to put it back to original condition. Now however my computer is running fine again but it's only showing 15GB of space. My harddrive is 180GB. The programs are gone but for some reason it didn't clear it up and I have no idea how to do it.

I have a window that my WSUS displays - the server cleanup - that is larger than the screen.  This is on a Win 7 ultimate x64 system (fully patched) with the monitor at max resolution.
The bottom of the cleanup window is below the bottom of the screen.  I press alt-space and then Move from the menu.  I then use the up arrow to move the window so I can get to the bottom to resize it.  If I press enter to drop it there or
move the mouse it snaps back to the original position.
I've selected "Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen" and even turned off aero.
Note that I can move the window partially off screen in every direction and drop it except up.

How can I move the window up partially off screen so I can resize it?  TIA

OK when my program is being ran/used if you hit the space bar in any part of the text box, a gray box pops up over the whole program. If you minimize the program and then bring it back up the gray box will be gone unless you hit the space bar again. Can someone take a look at it and see why its doing that. Feel free to compile and run it so that you can see for yourself what I am talking about. I use TextPad to compile and program with. The first part is my main program. The second part is a little class called WindowDestroyer. I will attach both of them. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

This is the main program:

Code:

private String save2Button = "Save your address";
private String save3Button = "Save your city and state";

A:Help with Space bar problem in java program

Hi ustacp,

I had a try of your Java coding with my JBuilder9. I got a compilation error with this line : addWindowListener(new WindowDestroyer());
I put comment to this line and I recompile : it works fine ! When I hit the space bar, only the active button is turning dark grey. I suppose that's what you want.
PS. I didn't run the 2nd part of your coding.

Hello, sometime ago i have done the biggest mistake I could have and downloaded Bitcomet P2P utility. it has messed up my computer and filled it with viruses from top to bottom so I am trying to get it all back together. I started with removing spyware and malware and viruses and deleting Bitcomet but it happened that after I removed it from Control panel/Add and Remove software no space has been freed on my hard disc and as it took up 12GB it is quite noticeable it is still somewhere there...Any ideas how to remove it completly???Thanks for tips...Monika xxxModerator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

A:Deleted Program But No Space Freed

You will need to run more than one different virus scan software to completely remove all of it. You should scan your computer with a least 4 different kinds of scanners. You have virus, adware, spyware, trojan, malware and other types of software.

Scan using them, and try to clean what you can. You also need to clean out your registry.

If you still have the problem with the used space after doing your scans/cleaning, just post a HJT log in the forum.

Hi. I'm going on a cleaning spree and I'm wondering what program in my add/remove programs list.

What is "Windows Driver Package Winbond Electronics Corporation Winbond"? It's taking up 10 gigs! Can I uninstall it or is it Windows system stuff? According to TreeSize it's not in the C:Windows folder.

Edit: also I found another one. What is "TPM Device Driver"? I googled it and got some results that had something to do with the aforementioned "Winbond".

After deleting old files and freeing up 2 GB of space on my Gateway MA7(139 GB hard disk) I had 82 GB of free space, I UNinstalled Safari(which sneaked its way on through an iTunes update). A few minutes later I checked my disk space and it had actually decreased to 81.3, it has steadily decreased every few hours or so for the past day and is now at 78.3 of free space-is this a sign of a virus or malware or whatever? I've run scans with Kapersky that came up empty. not positive that the uninstalling is the problem. I have Limewire and I've deleted or blocked(idk) a few trojans but I dont often use Limewire. I use Gimp but not seriously. So whats eating at my C:

Hi all.
So,I'm running Windows XP sp3 and I installed a GearHead/ Pixart webcam PAC7302. Within it's settings I was trying to allocate cache space for video captures and I accidentally allotted WAY too much and it has been freezing up my C drive. When I would try to go back into those settings to change that, the program would run so slow and not allow that setting screen to even open to change it. I had uninstalled with the GearHead CD that came with the camera, hoping the uninstall would surrender that allotted space. But , as soon as I re install that software for the camera, it seems to find a settings file again, because It still makes my computer operate crazy slow and I can't get into the settings to check the space allocation.
I have tried using CCLEANER and checking control panel that it shows as "removed" before re installing it again. CCLEANER DOES show a PixArt file that still exists called "C:\WINDOWS\PixArt\PAC7302\Monitor.exe" but I'm not sure if it is safe to delete it or if it can cause a problem at all. I have also tried using system restore between re installs. The restore works until I install the camera software. I have used this camera and software for YEARS without a problem so, I know that the CD is not the problem.
So,is there any backdoor way that I can effectively, clear old gearhead/ pixart settings/cache and/or check the drive for the previously allotted space and reclaim it?

When I play any flash videos in full mode on my second screen, there is empty space on the bottom and top of my screen. This started happening recently and I am not sure what caused it. If I move the video over to my primary screen, I can view the video in full mode with any white borders. I am including 2 images to show the difference. On my primary screen you see that the video takes advantage of my whole screen, while on the secondary screen, there is empty space on top and bottom. This just started happening recently and I am trying to figure out what is causing it. The resolution on my primary screen is 1600 x 900 and on secondary screen is 1440 x 900.

Secondary Screen -

A:Flash full screen leaving empty space on top and bottom of my screen

My first guess without knowing anything else is this is simply the graphic driver/card's way of dealing with the aspect ratio difference between the two monitors. It is possible this only started after a update to the flash player or graphics driver, I don't really see it as anything to be concerned about, and more than likely a great deal more trouble to solve than it's worth.
