DNS server issue tonight

Q: DNS server issue tonight

So, tonight all of a sudden my internet crashed. I waited a couple hours and it didn't come up so I googled the issue on my phone and was trying to fix it. Anyway, after running a diagnosis it said my DNS server might be unavailable. So, following some tips on a website I went to Wireless Network Connection properties and switched the option from "Use the following DNS server addresses" to "Obtain DNS server address automatically" and suddenly the internet came back up just like that. I'm confused, I didn't change any settings so what would have happened to cause this and how would the option get changed like that? I mean I never messed with any settings, I was playing WoW when the internet went down. Thanks for any help.

Edit: Actually I did turn on/off and reset my router/modem during the couple hours when it was down. However, it didn't fix the issue.

Preferred Solution: DNS server issue tonight

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am having an issue with offline files created offline syncing back to the server. I have set up a network share to be available offline on a client computer. All files are available offline without issue. Here is the issue however. If I set the folder to work offline any file I create in the folder when it is offline just disappears when the folder comes back online, there are no conflicts or sync failures reported in sync center. If I create a new folder offline the folder does sync back to the server. Any changes made to an existing file are also replicated back to the server once the share is back online. So the issue is only with newly created files when the share is offline. I have not been able to replicate this error on any other file server in our environment, However I have recreated the issue with multiple shares with multiple Win 7 clients on this file server.

Steps taken so far.

Checked and reset permission levels on the share.
Recreated new shares from scratch for testing.
Disabled and enabled offline files on the client computer and cleared the offline cache.
Check various registry entry settings.
Disabled cashing on the File server.
Tested with XP the issue does not exist with XP.

I have spent hours researching this error online to no avail.

The clients are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit
The File server is Server 2003 Standard 32 bit with SP2

Any help or ideas would be most welcome.

I've seen the complaints about this problem but with no clear resolution. There are some hot fixes listed that may help, updating to Windows 7 SP1 is supposed to help in some cases but nothing seems for certain.

No way for me to recreate this problem but apparently others have the same problem.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

A:Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

Latest version of IE on desktop with vista and laptop with 7. Hight speed internet connection is fine but when I opened IE on both computers get a message a program has stopped it from working corectly and it shuts down. Firefox works fine. Did a system restore to yesterday on both computers and now IE is working fine on both.

Then I start chatting with some friends on a message board and mention the problem and 3 other people say they are having the same thing happen with IE tonight. 1 only had to do a reboot and problem went away but others I think are gonna have to system restore and see if that works. Was there an MS update or something causing this as I didn't remember getting one today.

Also my son is home on vacation from college and connects with same laptop model as me wireless like I do too and I had him open his IE and it was not doing that. Mary

Hi Guys can you please take a look and tell what has caused this BSOD was running so well until now

A:Was going so well until tonight then BSOD

Steve, I will take a look. Is this the first one you have had for a while?

Error code 24, NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM - usual cause are Disk corruption, insufficient physical memory, Device driver, Indexing, Resident antivirus, backup, defrag programs, Disk/Drive failing/failure.

Please note the usual causes. Your dump, while blaming Ntfs.sys ( a Windows system driver and not likely the cause), points to Kaspersky, avp.exe. To start with, please uninstall Kaspersky using this uninstall tool: Info > Tool. Install MSE or Avast in its place and make sure Windows Firewall is turned on. If I remember correctly, we did this before? Kaspersky is known to cause BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. I suggest that you not reinstall it.

I also find out of date drivers on your system; some are really obsolete. Out of date drivers can and do cause memory corruption and crashes. Update or eliminate these drivers

So I'm running Windows XP sp2(updated as much as possible), was playing world of warcraft, 4 gigs ram, 500w power supply, not sure on the specs for the motherboard/harddrive, but the harddrive is still powering up and running.

My computer shut itself off. There was no output after that. I can get the case to power up, light up. The hard drive starts spinning, fans kick in. There is no video through either option of cable. The mouse and keyboard are getting no power through them.

I'm thinking it's my motherboard, but it's been less than a year since I got a new one(not saying it couldn't be all together seeing as I didn't buy a quality one last time; couple hundred bucks).

My main question is: Do you think the motherboard would be the obvious replacement?

If it is, I'll probably go ahead and upgrade the power supply/processor along with it. If there is anything else that could be part of the problem, please suggest it. Thank you.

I didn't bother to try to 'start up normally', I just went through the options it gave me to fix things, it said it would do a 'restore', and then it restarted normally.

where do I go to find out what it has done? (e.g., if it has gone back pre- some program, or some windows update that happened in the background, etc.). didn't see anything useful in 'action center'.

A:used 'restore' tonight -- PC 'would not start'...

Hello Lykho,
Thank you for filling in your System Specs. Well done!

* If indeed a System Restore was carried out the date should be recorded via the path below.

Start > Control Panel > System & Security > System > Restore system files & settings from a restore point > Restore system settings > next.
This should then allow you to see the date your system has been restored to... thus enabling you to have some idea of what was on your system at that time.

Make sure all Security programs & Windows are up to date, yet again!
* Out of interest you could also check in Event Viewer to see what had been recorded.
Type eventvwr in search.
Go to the Windows Logs > Application / System > in the left hand column.
Note anything in red that relates to the "Restore" or " problem."
Record the event ID, and the Source Code and tell us what they are.

Hey Guys.

Boy O Boy am I not in the mood for this tonight.

I was just on my desktop working on some editing and 3D apps, decided to give it a reboot for no other reason than I hadn't in a day, and the computer boots back up with nothing but problems!

First of all the resolution looks like it reset to default 640 x 480 or something. Which doesn't look to pretty on my 24 inch widescreen. I have a video card that's less than a month old, and it's not overclocked or anyhting, so no idea what's going on there.

To make it worse, I have no device input control whatsoever. I first tried with my normal DiNovo keyboard and mouse via Bluetooth. Getting no response at all, I swapped to a standard wireless keyboard I have and mouse. Still no input reply at all. When windows loads, it's saying it's loading a device driver in the taskbar, but it just loads forever. I don't even know WHAT it's trying to load!

Getting back to DOS and booting off my CD, I can get to the repair and recovery section...for all the good it does me being as system restore is turned off. I tried the startup repair but of course it didn't find anything wrong. Oddly enough the keyboard and mouse DOES work while Im here in the system recovery app.

I have no idea what to do. I just got my PC all nice how I like it. I finally get in the mood to edit me and my wife's home movies and this happens! Help? Anything?

A:Help (please!) PC decided to go haywire tonight!

There are a number of reasons why this can happen.
Boot into the bios to confirm the date and time, if it is reset then you need to change the battery on your motherboard and reset the settings you have lost in your BIOS.
Put your overclocked features back to the normal speed. It is obvious something is not working correctly with it.
Boot into safe mode and check the device manager and what hardware it can see.
If you are able to do all of the above we will get your computer working properley again, however I need to now you can do all of the above.

So I need some help by tonight because I have to work on a major powerpoint presentation by 8:00PM EST.

I have used this site before when I was attacked by a virus over this summer, the help was exceptional and got rid of all my problems.

So yesterday evening when I was researching my IE browser started to crash, after struggling the browser restarted but there were fake warnings from, XP Antivirus Pro that was saying I had an intrusion and that my pc was infected. It told me to use my credit card to use this product so I can get rid of the viruses. Obviously those were fake and never gave them any information.

But I need some help getting rid of this thing by tonight!

I have Windows XP, NOD 32 as my antivirus.

I would love to receive the same help I got last time by a very good member whose name I forget, it was a step-by-step process using various programs and posting my logs onto the forum.

Thank You!!

But I'm having second thoughts since I play older games as well as new games. Would older games that generally use one to two CPU cores cause bottlenecking in a quadcore due to the limited CPU core use?

I was also thinking about getting the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 http://www.newegg.com/Produc/Product...Tpk=intele8400

What CPU would work best video cards such as the GTX280?

I'm trying to get all of my purchasing done in the next couple of days while Newegg has free 3 day shipping on the hardware I'm interested in.

Hi All, I've hit so many dead ends tonight with my connection issues. If anyone is reading this right now and is pcAnywhere savvy.. and can successfully talk me through fixing my problem over the phone, I'll send you $75. I'll send it via Paypal tonight when I get home. It's probably some stupid setting I don't have configured right.

If you think you can fix it, I can give you my phone number to call.
Here's my situation:

Iíve used pcAnywhere to log onto my computer at work over the years, via my laptop at home. I just got a new (well, refurb) work computer, and installed everything identical to the original computer that it was replacing. I came into work to swap out the old with the new, and I canít access the new computer with my laptop using pcAnywhere. The configuration is the same as the old, so I donít know why Iím being prevented from accessing this particular computer. (It's pcAnywhere 12.5 if that matters. The last time I actually installed pca before this, it was a much older version, probably.)

The firewall is off.
New computer can reach OUTSIDE host computers using PCA, no problem. But it wonít allow other PCA connections to come IN.
I didnít touch the router settings, so the port forwarding is correct and remains the same as before.
PCA host is launched and "Waiting".
My computerís address (xxxx.dynip.com) is set up correctly.

Iím thinking the PCA is set up right.. but I must be missing something. Or ... Read more

(I posted earlier tonight about a trojan(/malware?) that installed automatically from a site I visited. No one replied as of yet; I added the single response that's there.) (TDS-3 was calling it a downloader trojan, BTW.)
TDS-3 identified it as - trojan.win32.revop.c
Spybot did not detect it.

Can I prevent sites from installing programs and especially trojans!?
It's random and scary! When visiting sites, I Alt+F4 to close popup windows. This site had quite a lot of windows. I didn't touch them though. Still, it installed. Does it make a difference, malware versus trojan?

So, what to do with my IE settings to prevent this?
I can't find a guide, or a list, that says plainly how to set my IE security settings. I do see lots of articles that talk about individual settings, but no list. They usually leave it up to the reader to decide what to do - well, I will be wrong, wrong, wrong! I have to be told how it should be. Mainly I want to prevent disasters like this from happening again. I hope I can do that.

(It installed three .exe programs.)

Used it last night w/o any problems. Today, it will not come on. Lights come on, but computer will not come on. Fan comes on for one second, but goes back off I think, b/c it is quiet.  I feel the back to see if anything is running as my other laptops gives a smooth vibration to let me know something is going on inside.  This one is not doing anything, but the lights are on.  I've tried the hard reset, conneciton to external hard drive, booting the BIOS.  I've done everything from the troubleshooting section on the HP site.  I'm lost.  I need help as I purchased it for my son to do his homework on.

Hi all, been lurking here a while since regedit stuff for memory card readers (Brink?)during the W7 Beta. It seems you guys come top of the pops regarding STOP errors on Google so I'm all registered and hoping to work it out.

Now my recently running well computer has started with random BSODs...

Recently installed software for Logitech G700 and had a replacement Nokia E7-00 with the Nokia suite of pain installed- I'm thinking there could be an issue or two there...

Not sure how to add my edited system specs, are they visible?

Regards from Down under,

Several Problems
First. These were all caused by memory management Usually a driver

These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (probably a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have raid update its Driver.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver verifier

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to anothe... Read more

so my dad is treating me to a comp upgrade for christmas and we've been going over the available hardware out there. as anyone who has ever put together their own PC before knows, the number of possible components and decisions can get very overwhelming - ESPECIALLY during the transitions of 754 to 939 and AGP to PCI express.

he's already denied putting any funds to a new video card, so odds are i'm going to stick with my radeon 9800 pro AGP for now.

As far as CPU goes, we've already decided on either the athalon 3700+ clawhammer (754) or the 3700+ san diego (939). it's important for me to decide tonight because of this deal on tigerdirect:

the last day for this combo is today...i just talked to my dad and he told me to go ahead and order it unless i can find some serious reason not to.

question 1: is there any reason to skip this deal because of the mobo: ASUS K8V SE Deluxe

i've read a billion customer reviews (none on newegg unfortunately), all of which were very positive, the main problem seems to be RAM pickiness...something i am not concerned about. However i am worried that this board may be a little outdated now, as any official review i can find is at least a couple years old, and the ASUS site has very little information on this board.

question 2 (the big one): will 754 be a bad move on my part?

for the past week, i've be... Read more

A:754 or 939...need to decide by midnight TONIGHT (2 hours left!!)

You will definately be sorry if you don't go socket 939 now.
Thats what I'm upgrading for.

Socket 939s are the latest besides 940, but I don't think many drivers are compatibile with 940s.

Also, you will be kicking yourself if you dont go with pci-express now, thats also what I'm going with for x-mas. AGP is going out of date fast.

I'm not saying 754 sockets are bad, but if I were you I'd go with the latest.
I'm not sure how fast the gaming economy is moving, but you will probably be better off with 939 for atleast 3-4 years.

I have AM957G motherboard from PC Chips which has an onboard audio card running AC'97 Audio Codecs. I have it set for 5.1 surrond and untill tonight it ran smooth. It now has no sound out of the front left channel and acts as if it lost amp power to that side. The rest of the speakers function fine. I replaced both the LF speaker and then the whole set with a set that is known to be good. I tried to remove the driver and reinstall with no sucess, channel still gone. Lost and confused. Any ideas???

A:Lost sound in my left channel tonight

Might just be a hardware failure. Unless you need fancy sound there are many cheap decent sound cards that should be as good or better than what you have. Read the customer comments.

Bluetooth just disappeared from my system tonight.  There's no longer Bluetooth device settings, and it was always present and the Bluetooth button disappeared from the action center.    Note: This is the 3rd problem to self-create.  A windows update broke the touchpad and needed a bios reset.  Sunday night an update broke the audio driver and created the "no audio device installed error."  and required HD audio drivers to be downloaded and rerun.  Now, brand new tonight, Bluetooth just disappears.  The instability of automatic software updates is becoming a major problem.  This is the most unreliable new laptop I've ever owned.  It keeps self-breaking.  People shouldn't have to repair their systems after every update that is pushed out.   Also, 2 desktop.ini files just appeared on my desktop at about the same time the Bluetooth stopped and the setting disappeared.  They contain: [.ShellClassInfo][email protected]%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21769IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-183 [.ShellClassInfo][email protected]%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21799

Ok guys heres the story, im coming up with a Logo for our graduation, I came up with the Idea "Milestone" and created the Interstate sign, having the number 98 in the middle which represents the number of students, and the slogan " Building the future on life's Highway! "

It might not be the greatest of all ideas, but 97 students find it GREAT! The only problem is, our administration full of *** nuns want to call us ARZE, and since they are french educated, they didnt even understand the word milestone and the ideas behind it !

Now ive been in a fight with them about this for a week, all the students have my back and I wont let them have it their way like always, therefore i need some Reviews by Pro's and Anyone actually, so i can turn them into a form with your names at the end of each review, so i can face them with " Here you go, I got you proffessional reviews, what more do you want ? " And the deadline is TONIGHT as i have to present them tmrw morning !

Here is the link, check it out : http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1 Ö =760815303

The reason this is urgent for me is because I am leaving to move into my new apartment tomorrow morning, and once I am gone from my house, pretty much any technical problem will not get solved (I am sure many of you here are familiar with this position).

My brother's computer was full of viruses so I reinstalled a fresh copy of windows, and everything is working great.

But I go to install the Westell wireless G USB adapter for internet, and the driver will not install.

I have installed the utility first - it then asks to connect the device which I did. The new hardware thing pops up, and since I don't have the installation CD (lost it, but downloaded the files from Westell's website), I browse to the folder of those files, and it searches and says it cannot find the driver.

I then tried manually installing the driver by doing "have disk..." and actually selecting all the possible .inf files I could find (one at at a time) (.inf is the only type of file it lets you select), and for every one I tried it says "this file contains no information about the hardware" (or something like that).

I know the driver itself is a .SYS file, but when I do have disk.. it will only let me choose .inf files.

It's just absurd that this isn't working.... any ideas? I have to fix this by tonight or my brother will have no internet.

Thanks in advance.

My name is Brad. I have a personal computer from Dell with Windows 7 pre-installed that my wife and I  purchased in August, 2010. In early January (last month), after attempting to update a few out of date drivers, my computer began a series of severe BSOD's upon reboot, during browsing sessions, while recording music and while installing Windows updates, and updating Windows Defender. Crash after Crash. Especially when trying to install AMD drivers. I found this article this evening after 2 months of this, day after day, trying to figure this out...
I'm not certain this is my issue, but both my AMD driver and Windows Defender has been indicated in most of my crashes and the "patch for the patch to a patch" has so far failed in my computer. I have a fresh install of AMD driver 13.9 on my computer now and will not let it sleep or shutdown for any length of time. I check for Windows Updates myself and I just restart every couple of days. I know I will need repairs, perhaps even a fresh install of W7 or a new graphics card, but of course my graphics card is very old anyway (2007). I hope this article helps those who are having similar issues with Blue Screens of Death. It confirmed my suspicions, but only opened up more questions for me and my wife.

A:2 months of BSOD's, I found News article tonight that may explain
